Seamus Passeri
Flop, plop. Crooooaak. The creature hops again, it's eyes beginning to open even more. More light shines from it's eyes. The room is getting brighter...
is the hopping thematic or is it actually moving? I will try and get Seamus behind it.
Seamus trying to move to get behind the Blindheim calls out
cover, shade or close your eyes, it may help. that's a wild guess and not to be trusted This thing shoots a blinding ray out of its eyes, we need to dispatch it before it activates them
was it hopping it's move, has it rolled initiative? Can we attack it?
Bayani Nishou
Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Knowledge(dungeoneering): 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 8 + (6) = 22
Bayani throws up a hand to shield his eyes as he draws his rapier.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (11) + 6 = 17
"It looks like it maybe was tamed by someone at some point, given that brand and hood -- Down! Stay! Good boy!"

Bad news for you guys! Monster rolled highest!
As it plops forth it opens it's eyes. Red rays of light burst from the beaming bulbous orbs flooding the room with painful light!
DC13 Fort save or be blinded for 1 hour...
*crooaooooaaaakkk*, saith the frog.
Round 1

Seamus Passeri
fort: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Seamus, shielding his eyes from the frog-light get it, rhymes with "fog Light" however I will resist the urge to play an "Alf" clip studies the frog for a moment and attacks with his hammer.
Lucerne hammer, studied target attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (20) + 5 = 25 for damage: 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
confirm. crit. attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (15) + 5 = 20 for damage: 1d12 + 5 ⇒ (4) + 5 = 9
Merelinda Falvian
Well...assuming there's anything left of the frog-thing after that...
Merelinda steps up between her comrades and takes a swing at the terrible frog-creature, clearing her vision with a shake of her head as she advances.
Attack!: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Damage: 1d8 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Bayani Nishou
Fort: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
"Good boy, good bAAAAAAAAHHHH!" Bayani says as his attempt to coax the creature fail miserably. He rubs his eyes furiously, then hears a loud SPLUT as Bang! Bang! Seamus's lucern hammer came down upon its head, Do do do do do and Bang! Bang! Seamus's lucern hammer made sure that it was dead.

I'm so confused!

The frogs tounge and eyeballs bulge out as it's head is flattened on the floor of the cave under Seamus' blow. Then Merelinda ensures total death-age with another crunchy swing for good measure. The frog is dead. But poor Tusara and Bayani and Balgrim have "taken it in the eyes" so to speak...
END COMBAT
Treasure: Even a cursory search of the pool reveals a
man’s body, mostly eaten. Little remains to identify the
body as that of one of the thugs from the second expedition,
for the blindheim has eaten most of it and has ruined its
armor and clothing in the process. A belt pouch on the
body’s hip is still intact and contains 42 gp, a silver unholy
symbol of Zyphus worth 25 gp, and two water-tight potions
of cure light wounds.
Bayani Nishou
Hmm, Religion is one of the knowledges Bayani doesn't have yet. Would a DC 10 suffice to identify the symbol as one of Zyphus, who is a rather obscure deity?
Also, is this place secure enough to bivouac for an hour until we get our sight back?
Haileyanka Nine
|
I think Bayani might know who Zyphus is. But I don't even know without looking it up! So it would be awesome if he would give us a story while this hour goes by.
Seamus Passeri
was 21 high enough to know they will only be blind for an hour?
crap, crap, crap, people are blinded, were going to need to take a break, and I didn't bring my lute
Seamus quickly starts trying to help those who cannot see.
Everyone who cannot see stand still, I've killed the frog the immediate danger is over, we will help move you to a dry spot so you can rest until your vision is restored, It's only temporary. I hope
seeing that Bayani, Tusara and Balgrim are temporarily blinded he keeps them out of the water and has them sit down. He politely asks Merelinda
Merlinda would you keep an eye out to the south, while I check the west to make sure we are in a safe location
Seamus heads to the west to make sure there is nothing else that will threaten his friends,
since we have time can he take 20 on perception and track (both 24) to see what he can see
Bayani Nishou
Well someone would have to recognize the symbol, since Bayani can't see right now.
untrained knowledge(religion) check: 1d20 + 4 + 1d6 ⇒ (6) + 4 + (1) = 11 And he doesn't know that much about Zyphus anyway.
Knowledge(history): 1d20 + 8 + 1d6 ⇒ (15) + 8 + (4) = 27 That said, he does know a lot about history, so if someone can tell him it's a Zyphan symbol, I can come up with a story about some historical event involving that faith.
"Yes, this is very painful but it will pass," Bayani says, involuntary tears trickling down his cheeks from his wounded eyes.
Haileyanka Nine
|
The knowledge check to recognize the symbol of Zyphus should be about DC15. Merelinda can probably make it. She gets +2 because of Bayani's helping roll. Seamus knows the blindness will probably last about an hour. Going west where you've shown yourself on the map you see
A collection of stalactites and stalagmites choke this lowceilinged
cavern, making it difficult to squeeze between them.
Matching stalactites close in from the five-foot-high ceiling,
giving the impression of a maw of needlelike teeth bearing
down on one another. A dead half-orc sprawls on the ground
near the cave’s eastern entrance.
Merelinda Falvian
Merelinda don't know nothin' 'bout birthin' no babies.
She pats Bayani on the shoulder, guiding him to a spot to sit down to wait out the blindness. They had their silly bracelets, if they needed to escape, so she wasn't in a hurry. If no one does similarly, she will also grab Tusara and set her down somewhere before guarding the southern passage as Seamus checks things out.
Perception: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Balgrim Balderdash
Balgrim's blind eyes follow Merelinda accusatorily not really before he stops out of the water by himself and sits down where there hopefully isn't a giant froggy corpse. He grumbles loudly while idly whacking the ground with his stick.
What kinda blasted frog shoots light out of 'is bleedin eyes?
Seamus Passeri
as Seamus is looking around near the stalactites he realized this is the area above where they first arrived, seeing the half-orc, he drags the body back to the original cave in time to hear Balgrim's question
It was a "blindheim" I read about them in a book about underground creatures, according to the book you all should have your sight back in a bout an hour. Speaking of sight do any of you recognize this...ah...I mean Merelinda do you recognize this half-orc?
taking a good look at the cadaver himself, then he places the two bodies near each other (away from his friends) and quickly searches them.
I know you gave us the information on the first body, if its ok he will take 20 on perception to search the half-orc and untrained knowledge (if nessicary)to recognize it
knowledge: 1d20 ⇒ 4 yeah not a clue, they must have been an adoring fan
Merelinda Falvian
Aw snap, sorry Balgrim!
"What, do you think I know every corpse in this gods be damned cave!?" Nevertheless, she does go to inspect the corpse to perhaps verify identity. More importantly, she tries to determine cause of death.
Heal Untrained: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (11) + 2 = 13
Seamus Passeri
when Merelinda finishes inspecting the body and makes eye contact with Seamus she sees that he has a sheepish look on his face as he mouths the word "sorry" while he points at his eyes and then at their three unseeing companions and then at the cadaver, and shrugging his shoulders and spreading his hands in a "what was I to do" gesture.
Shortly after that, clearly fidgety and unsure what to do for the next hour; he then asks her
Should I see whats ahead, or go back and kill the baby mold creatures, or just wait here?
Bayani Nishou
Bayani continues rubbing his wounded eyes, waiting for the effects to wear off. Over time, he gradually becomes able to see again, then looks over the loot. "This silver amulet looks like a holy or unholy symbol, but I don't know of what deity. It's a pick with a skull on it. Some minor evil deity associated with death, I imagine."
Merelinda Falvian
Merelinda shrugs at Bayani's analysis. They were here for the councilor. Researching evil death gods could wait until they made it back. She gives the man a short smile, though, not wanting to seem too standoffish.
As the others regain their sight, she says, "Do you need a bit more time, or should we proceed?" The question is asked matter-of-factly, not in a condescending way.
Haileyanka Nine

Suddenly Seamus (with untrained knowledge local) recognizes the half orc as Parda Garr, a popular brawler in town, and that she was one of those
who traveled with several thugs into the caverns. Almost everyone called her a friend, and many felt that her falling in with the thugs was going to be her end — turns out, they were right.
sorry, no treasure on the bodies. All taken by whatever killed them!
Seamus Passeri
before Seamus sits down by the southern corridor, he drags the second carcass up by the first one. Getting a better look he realizes that is Parda Garr, and blurts out to the crew.
Hey that's Parda Garr, a popular brawler in town, good dancer too. She went with the thugs into the caverns; funny thing, I wonder how she got here.
Seamus a little sad, sits till his friends can see again. Quietly bobbing his head to music and playing "air-lute" as he is thinking about what songs he would play to cheer himself up.
Merelinda Falvian
"This woman was slain by a knife or something similar, not a creature." Wasn't it always the case? People always railing on about 'wild' animals, when it was people that were the worst things out there. She sighs, getting ready to proceed further into the caves.
Will take the lead and go deeper in, if everyone is ready.
Balgrim Balderdash
Balgrim pushes himself off the ground with his stick and settles his hat back on his head.
It is a mite disconcerting knowin' that what's causin' trouble down here might be people rather than beasts. But these are thugs and that one has a skull for a holy symbol, wouldn't be out of character for some of em to have knifed each other over somethin'.
