When the machine forces the decision for the spokesman, Coldwar steps up, "Right. Alright, I can be the spokesman for today. I used to run my own crew, so I can speak for us. Please step up if you can."

Apologies, this week has been hella busy.

The sound of triumphant music signals the start of the ceremony, and a local city official introduces you as members of the Rock Mountain Justice League! You emerge on stage to bright lights and the cheers of a small crowd of about 150 people. There are a few disappointed cries that you aren't the more well-known leaguers, but most people are accepting of the substitution.

You give the crowd a few moments to look you over and then the representative gestures for one of you to step up to the mike. The chosen 'victim" immediately finds themselves besieged with questions from the press, everyone asking at once. The official calls for silence and then points to the same woman that MINOTAR, Ghost, Straightjacket, and Isikos were approached by last night, a representative of KTLA television.

"Can you tell us about yourselves?" the woman queries.

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

Coldwar looks at his new Leaguers and then steps to the mike, "Right. I'm Coldwar with ice powers."

"This is Ghost; he can walk through walls."

"That's Isikos, a living shadow."

"And, MINOTAR, our tactical robot."

"Over there is Straightjacket; he's super stretchy."

"And the Fragment and the Fragment; he's our private army."

"Over there is Spellbinder, our team wizard."

"And last but not least is Arcfire who is living electricity."

"We're the Rocky Mountain Justice League."

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

"Next question?" Coldwar asks.

Male Human PL 8

I did say earlier I'd be the spokesman, since I answered the questions in-game yesterday, but okay.

Ghost was privately pleased he didn't have to do all the talking this time - someone else could get mobbed by the press. He did feel bad it was one of the new guys, though.

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

@Ghost. No worries. I thought you had too. However, when there continued to be questions, Coldwar stepped up.

A local newspaper man raises his hand and asks, "What is your jurisdiction, for lack of a better word?"

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

”Same as the Justice League. We’re just based in the Rocky Mountains. “ Coldwar replies coldly.

”Next question?”

Dark Archive

Maps: Car. Crown || Skull & Shackles

Before the question can be asked, there is a distant explosion. Turning that direction, you can see a boat about two miles offshore. A thick column of black smoke rises from the craft. Next to the boat is a black submersible, and it looks like several people are swarming over the two craft. It's hard to tell from here, but it definitely looks like trouble!

Male Human PL 8

Ghost studies the explosion, then says, "Looks like we've got trouble. I'll scout ahead and relay information."

With that, Ghost begins making his way towards the boat, invisibly teleporting from point in space to point in space until he reaches the top of the boat, where he invisibly looks over the scene from his location.

Ghost:
The black submersible is definitely the aggressor, and several men have emerged from that craft to invade the other boat. Passengers and crew are being rounded up and their valuables collected at gunpoint. The invaders wear dark purple wetsuits and carry high-tech blasters. Then, you see him, standing at the portal of the black submersible, directing the operation.

How far out is it? I suspect he won't be able to jump out there.

Almost two miles offshore.

”Well, there you go. Black submarines look like our jurisdiction. So, please excuse us.” Coldwar replies nonchalantly.

”Let’s go, team.” He pushes the team backstage to have a private quick conversation.

=============

Backstage

”How do you guys travel? If you only walk or run, either hang on to MINOTAR or grab a car. I can pull you along an ice slide.” Coldwar offers.

He readies to encase MINOTAR or a vehicle in ice and pull it along his ice slide.

He will move object a vehicle (in casing it in ice) and pull it along his ice slide, Flight 6 via platform

"Usually I kinda jump or bounce my way there, but I don't see that working on water. I can run pretty fast also. "

Looking over the distance, MINOTAR's sensors and algorithms calculate his groups probabilities.

I can only jump 120 feet at a time using my jump jets. Unless our Javelin is close by, we are at a minor difficulty here. If our Javelin is nearby, I will warn the others and head for it with Straightjacket. However...if Coldwar can take us with him without a problem, then we should travel with him. Other options exist I'm sure, but these seem our best choices so far.

A small red light begins flashing on MINOTAR's head.

"Statement: I am contacting the local Coast Guard on emergency frequencies now to alert them to the hijacking currently in progress. My estimation however is that they will not arrive in time to help with this situation directly unless we move in now to prevent the submarine's escape."

Isikos - Tim Simpson - living shadow Dodge 6, Parry 6, Fort 6, Toughness 4p/10e, Will 10

"I'll meet you there." he says as he fades into the shadows.

Teleporting with shadow walk. 2 rounds lost in transit.

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

Move Object 8. If MINOTAR can carry them, Coldwar can carry them.

"I have a motorcycle, but it will not ride on water."

"I am made of electricity, if needed I can travel limited distances through the air as a lightning bolt."

"Recall how I mentioned I can create a mechanical body out of appropriate materials? If we have a vehicle we are authorized to use, I can also modify it for air or water use."

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

"Right. Pick an option, because I'm leaving with MINOTAR or a vehicle in a few seconds. Ghost and Isikos have already gone." Coldwar starts to get impatient.

I'm assuming the water is really our first obstacle, so let's figure this out. We need to hear back from the GM if: (1.) Our Javelin is available nearby or not. If its parked on our hotel roof(or similar), that should not be a problem. (2.) If there is a 'vehicle' we could commandeer easily such as a car(Coldwar), (speed) boat, or even a (news) helicopter nearby, then that would work too. (3.) I'm not sure 'Carrying' me carrying someone else works, but the GM can decide that. (4.) If nothing else, if Coldwar leaves a platform behind him whereever he goes, then can we use that to follow using our jumping abilities? Or does it disintegrate too fast?

Spellbinder looks down at his legs before looking back up at the group "I definitely need a lift, portals are not something I've been able to figure out yet"

The javelin is close enough that you can reach it in two rounds.

Likewise, you can easily commandeer a nearby car. There are some boats in the harbor, but find a speedboat would take time. There are no news choppers present.

The issue I have with being carried while carrying someone else is the weight limitation of the first person (the one carrying you), as he is now carrying both of you. If his or her strength permits it and it doesn't get overly silly (four heroes carrying each other in a stack, for example), then there is no problem.

Coldwar's ice creations have the Continuous extra, so they remain until destroyed, they melt, or he chooses to dismiss them. His "trail" will not melt fast enough to prevent its use, so long as you remain pretty close to him.

MINOTAR turns and moves to head for the Javelin.

"Hurried Request: Coldwar, take someone with you if you can and go aid Ghost and Isikos. I will retrieve the javelin and combat drop the others to the ship as soon as possible, then support you from the air as needed. I can only hope the enemy submarine lacks anti-aircraft capabilities."

"Fragment, get on your motorcycle. I'll bring you and your bike to the shore. Then, I'll take you to the sub. Let's go." Coldwar says.

He takes off with Fragment leaving the rest of the team to the Javelin.

I'll move the game mechanics discussion to Discussion. Cheers

Straightjacket will start leaping towards the Javelin. "Let's do this!"

Male Human PL 8

Ghost studies the scene before him, noticing the leader. He'd seen images of the man on the news. This could get dicey. He quietly says over the comms, "Guys, looks like we've got Black Manta and his goons here. They're rounding up the crew and taking their valuables, but I'd be willing to bet they're after something else."

Considering the odds, Ghost says, "I'll hold position until reinforcements get here, unless you guys think I should act now."

The Fragment nods to Coldwar and races for his cycle. "I'll meet you out front"

The Fragment moves to follow MINOTAR. "I have never been in a Javelin I am excited to check it out"

CONSTRUCT (PL8) Dodge 8, Parry 8, Fortitude 'Immune', Toughness 10, Will 6; Status:

Without a hitch, MINOTAR quickly moves towards their Javelin, leading the others through the various crowds and responds to Ghost over the commlink.

"Hasty Reply: Understood Ghost. Hold for now as long as you can. Coldwar is on his way with one of the Fragment twins. The rest of us are retrieving the Javelin and will get there ASAP."

Once they arrive two turns later, MINOTAR will attempt a fast start of the Javelin.

A miniature thunderclap lets out as Arcfire converts himself into a bolt of lightning, coming to a pause a half mile away. From there he strikes out again in lightning form, and then again, and again.

He can teleport 1/2 mile every six seconds, which works out to a speed of about 300mph. He'll get out to the boat in about 24 seconds.

He reforms into his vaguely humanoid shape again as he arrives, hovering about 100 meters above the water, so as not to appear too close to the action.

Human Iceman | Damage 0 | Dodge 6 | Parry 4 | Fortitude 7(1) | Toughness 10(1) | Will 8

Into the comms, Coldwar suggests, "Ghost, maybe investigate the sub while the bad guys are topside. Bail if you're threatened. We'll be distracting in a minute."

Spellbinder follows the giant robot man and readies himself for the upcoming combat, ensuring that his shields are working effectively "Let's do this thing!" he cheers excitedly as they get ready to take off

Male Human PL 8

Ghost nods and teleports over to the top of the sub before phasing through the top into the sub itself - all the while retaining his invisibility.

Isikos - Tim Simpson - living shadow Dodge 6, Parry 6, Fort 6, Toughness 4p/10e, Will 10

As he emerges below decks on the boat, he calls in that he's on-scene. He'll do a quick search below to see if there are any leaks and if there's anything that Black Manta wants.

Alright, since everyone is finding a way there...

MINOTAR's voice echoes through the cockpit.

"Statement: Prepare for combat drop. I will do a quick pass-over with the bay doors open, then swing around and attempt to provide air support until the situation resolves itself or the Coast Guard arrives."

Arcfire desends down to a hieght of about 50 ft above the action. Then, with a moment of concentration, he generates a focused Electro-Magnetic Pulse, aimed at Black Manta and his submersible.

Weaken/Damage 8 (Cone/Electronic Objects only) linked effect. Electronic circuits have their toughness reduced by 8 points while taking a damage effect of 8. Basically, they have to make a Toughness roll 18 at -8 or have all electronics blow out. I figure that helmet of Black Manta's (if not his whole suit) has to be all circuitry, and that this may destroy all the control systems on the sub as well (though it probably has mechanical backups, it could still force them to retreat).

Male Human PL 8

Does that include the phasing, invisible team member who just snuck into the sub?

That depnds... did you tell anyone you were entering the sub? Either way, you are probably safe, as my EMP only affects objects in the solid realm, and all of yours are presently out-of-phase with normal matter. (Arcfire does not have Affects Insubstantial on his attack.)

Male Human PL 8

I was reacting to Coldwar's suggestion, but I realize I posted that I only nod in acknowledgement as opposed to saying I was going to do that, so I did not actually tell anyone I was going to investigate the sub. I suspect it might get dark on me, however. My fault there.

That is true, though I didn't think of it. The sub was mostly an afterthought, Black Manta was my main target.

Regarding EMP's though, like the term "Bulletproof," electronics Hardened against EMP aren't immune to EMP, just have varying levels of resistance. Just like a big/hard/fast enough bullet will go right through "Bulletproof" glass or armour, a sufficiently powerful EMP will still overwhelm and short-out Hardened electronics.

So, I guess the GM will decide how much resistance it would have, and then roll the dice.

We can chalk it up to the stereotypical New team members need to learn how the team communicates trope.

Arcfire generates an EMP and several circuits on the sub audibly blow. Manta slams a hand against his helmet and swears. "Heroes! Get them," he snarls.

Six of Manta's men comply with his orders, opening fire on the only hero they can see; Arcfire. Sadly, their spear guns do little the intangible hero. The other six continue to take the passengers' jewelry and wallets at spear-point.

Ghost, inside the sub you see several more Manta-men working the controls before everything indeed goes dark. Emergency lighting comes on after a moment and there is much activity within, with the men scrambling to bring the back-ups online.

Isikos, the boat does not appear to be sinking. To all appearances, this seems a simple act of piracy.

Ghost and Isikos are up. The rest of the team may post their actions and I'll insert them into the proper place in the narrative.

GM's Eyes Only:
Manta: 1d20 + 15 - 8 ⇒ (2) + 15 - 8 = 9
Sub: 1d20 + 15 - 8 ⇒ (9) + 15 - 8 = 16

Male Human PL 8

Ghost looks about for the wiring to backup generators, hoping to cut those connections and keep the sub dark.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
Technology: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (2) + 6 = 8
Vehicles: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (6) + 5 = 11

Not sure which roll is the best for identifying the wiring, and destroying said wiring.

Isikos will slide back out onto the deck, keeping to the shadows as much as possible. Reaching out with a Tendril, he'll see if he can send Manta into the shadows. With their leader away, hopefully the minions will be easier to deal with.

Shadow abduction: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Will DC 18 or he appears 1 mile further offshore after 3 rounds

Straightjacket will jump down to the yacht hoping to engage Black Manta.

If someone actually facilitates his escape first, then he will grab a flunky.

The Fragment hits the open door snapping onto the repelling line as he steps out the door.
