BACKGROUND
From a young age, we’re taught the difference between good and evil, and for most of us, those early lessons go on to shape our entire worldview. So, imagine what might happen if we were to flip the message. If we were to teach our children that evil was the way of the world. If teachers and philosophers taught their students to “do no good” rather than to “do no harm.” If the world leaders and heroes of our planet sought to maintain chaos and corruption rather than peace.

Our world would be starkly different. It would be a nightmare. It would be a place of death and devastation. It would be Earth-3.

A complete opposite of Earth-0 in every way, good and evil are reversed in the ruthless nations of Earth-3. Greed, ambition and conquest are rewarded, especially when they come at the expense of others. Heroes have no place in a world like this, and so it’s a collective of villains that seek to prolong and foster their Earth’s way of life: Ultraman, Superwoman, Owlman, Power Ring, Johnny Quick, the Sea King, Atomica and Grid. Or as they’re better known, the Crime Syndicate.

Yet in a world where destruction is celebrated, how long will it be until all is eliminated and existence itself is wiped out? For Earth-3, that day finally arrived as the entire world was eliminated by an even larger instrument of devastation—the Anti-Monitor. Now, only a few members of the Crime Syndicate and Coldwar remain after fleeing from their Earth to ours.

Leonard Snart grew up in Earth-3 in a family of rebels. During his childhood, the Crime Syndicate tortured him to motivate his parents to behave. He was shot with an ice-creating gun. Many years later during puberty, Leonard developed abilities to control cold temperatures, including transforming into organic ice. His connection with water and temperature variations have also heightened his perceptions of his environment, too.

Cold and calculating. That’s the best way to describe Leo Snart, and it’s how he approached the job. Get in, get out and if anybody gets in the way, deal with them. No fuss and no muss. It was simple, and it worked. At least until a certain speedster interfered.

Transforming into an organic ice form, Leonard became Coldwar, one of the Johnny Quick's most chillingly dangerous foes. Whether on his own or leading the gang of Central City rebels known as the Rogues, Coldwar approaches the job at hand with an utter lack of emotion. His only care is getting it done as efficiently as possible. And yet, for a rebel, Coldwar is surprisingly ethical. He follows a strict Code of Honor: no drugs, no senseless violence, and above all, no killing women or children. He’s brought that code to the Rogues, convincing them that if anyone breaks it, they risk bringing the hammer down on themselves all that much harder, and with members in jail, the gang is less effective.

When the Anti-Monitor wiped out Earth-3, Leo Snart was in the middle of a job, deep into the vaults of the Crime Syndicate. In the wake of Flash, Coldwar got pulled through a breach into Earth-0. Before the Justice League selected him for the Rocky Mountain crew, Nightwing recruited Coldwar to support the Gotham Resistance.

ORIGIN
The Crime Syndicate captured and experimented on Leonard Snart. He barely survived and developed cryokinesis powers.

MOTIVATION
Leo Snart has rebelled his whole life against a world dominated by super-powered tyrants. He finds Earth-0 worth fighting for, too.
Doing Good: Some heroes fight the good fight simply, because it’s the right thing to do and they believe in doing the right thing no matter what. Their strong moral center may come from a good upbringing (or a bad one that showed them what not to do) or the guidance or inspiration of a mentor or idol.

PERSONALITY
Cold and calculating. He follows a strict Code of Honor: no drugs, no senseless violence, and above all, no killing women or children.

GOALS
Like a soldier who has known only war, Leo Snart is trying to integrate himself into peace. He uses his brief heroic missions as adrenaline fixes. Maybe, he will be able to retire.
