Valik, will go sightseeing after the debacle of the book. He takes in the sights and sounds of the city and absorbs as much culture as possible. He is unsure when he will be back to such a place.
Valik will stay out until dinner time, then make his way back towards the manor, to the room to wash up before dinner.
| GM Harker |
I understand that Aurelia is extremely busy at the moment, but in the interests of keeping things going, we're going to start moving on. The beginning of this scenario is just a chance to do some faction missions anyway. Aurelia can catch up when she gets some time.
If you do have any other faction business that I might have missed, feel free to place it in a spoiler for me and we'll deal with it while I'm running this next part.
Whether it was sightseeing, or doing important faction business, everyone returns to the lodge shortly before the dinner hour dictated by Heidmarch.
Still looking for Moadis' assistance, Halkale searches upstairs in the cottage for him, while Ophelia just enters the downstairs. The rest of the party meets up outside preparing to enter.
I need a Perception check from everyone.

"As cities go, it's nice. I was raised in Absalom, so that's really the only thing I can compare it to. But, I do prefer the wilds to city life."
| GM Harker |
For now, we need to retcon Halkale and Moadis' conversation since Halkale starts upstairs and Moadis is outside. I based everyone's starting positions on how long it would probably take them to return from their errands.
To streamline things, I'm going to leave Aurelia out of the initiative. If she returns before this part is over, she can roll initiative to join in.
Ophelia's Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (10) + 9 = 19
As he looks upstairs, Halkale notices a female goblin with bluish-gray skin and wearing bits of bone jewelry rummaging through a wardrobe in one of the sleeping quarters! Turning back to see the ranger, the goblin emits a surprised squeak and runs for the window. Ophelia hears the strange squeak from downstairs.
Player Initiative Rolls
Halkale's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Moadis' Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7

Valik's Initiative: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Ekkie's Initiative: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9
Halkale and Ophelia act before the goblin in a surprise round due to their high perception rolls and placement inside the house.

This is a chase scene. Halkale is starting in the same square as the goblin, so he has a chance to subdue it to avoid the chase all together. Your icons are adjacent to the square they are currently in.
Below are the chase rules, if you have any questions about them, please let me know
At the start of the chase, have all participants roll initiative to determine the order in which they move. It takes a move action to move through a single square. When a character exits from a square, he must choose one of that square's two obstacles to face as a standard action before moving to the next square. Instead of exiting a square, a character can choose to take another action not directly related to navigating the chase's course, such as casting a spell or drawing a weapon.
A character may attempt to move three squares during his turn by taking a full-round action, effectively bypassing the second square and moving straight into the third from his starting position. That character must overcome both obstacles on the square he is leaving. In this case, if a character fails either obstacle check by 5 or less, he only moves one square forward and his turn ends. If a character fails either obstacle check by more than 5, he cannot move at all that turn. A character unfortunate enough to fail two obstacle checks in a turn becomes mired in his current square. A mired character must spend another full-round action becoming unmired, effectively losing his next turn.
A character can also choose to make a ranged attack or cast a spell during his turn in a chase. If the action is a full-round action, he can't move at all. Use the number of squares and their established distances (in this case, 30 feet) to determine ranges as necessary. The terrain where the chase takes place might provide the target partial or even full cover or concealment. A character can only choose to make melee attacks against targets that are in the same square.
Any character involved in the chase gains a +2 cumulative bonus on all chase checks for each 10 feet by which her speed exceeds 30 feet, or takes a -2 cumulative penalty for each 10 feet by which it is slower than 30 feet.

Apologies for the silence. Had a busy couple of days.
Ophelia's head whips up at the squeak, and she hurries up the stairs, her scale coat hitting against her legs as she does wso.
Just moving, getting as far as I can in one round.

My assumption was grapple was the roll, using CMB
Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Halkale tries to tackle the goblin to stop it from escaping.
| GM Harker |
Ophelia rushes up the stairs to see what all the commotion is, only to see Halkale wrestling with a goblin!
Halkale successful grabs the squirmy creature, but it flings it's weight into the ranger, causing him to lose his grip and allowing the goblin to free herself. Throughout the ordeal, she screams bloody murder in a language that is probably Goblin, alerting those outside of the problem upstairs.

Can I assist on a grapple check? If so, I'd like to help Halkale out here (probably grabbing the goblin's legs or something). If I can't, I'd like to use my Gentle Rest domain power to stagger her (1 round, no save). Both rolls are made at the same bonus. If grappling, Ophelia may provoke an AoO, as she doesn't have Improve Gapple.

Heyo, all! Forcing my way in here. My apologies once again for my tardiness.
GM, would you like for me to do my faction mission fun in a spoiler aside as we run the combat, or wait until after the chase is done? Or perhaps closer towards the end of the scenario.
Aurelia seems to have been quite distant since arriving in Varisia, apparently rather offended by pretty much everything (more so than usual) and not particularly pleased to have yet another annoying righteous voice along for the ride this time either. She disappears early in the morning and returns later appearing rather smug and pleased in herself (again, more so than usual), but she is slightly delayed in her arrival (fashionably late, you know). As a result, she turns up in the middle of a chaotic scene...
"What in the devil is going on here?" she demands with a frown, rushing after Valik into the house.
Initiative: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
If that initiative roll puts me before the gobbo, then I will double move towards it.
| GM Harker |
A wild Ifrit Summoner appears!
We can just do it in spoilers, Aurelia. Just let me know what you're doing/did.
The goblin seems more interested in running away than hacking at Halkale with her dogslicer at the moment, but gets grappled again anyway for her trouble. It's deja vu all over again when she slips out of the Ranger's grasp.
Valik and Aurelia show up to see the goblin stick her tongue out at Halkale as she frees herself.

Aurelia sets out with a most curious shopping list...
First, the matter of the disguise. She purchases simple clothes that are quite below her status (traveller's outfit), including a baggy newsboy cap that she can pull down to hide most of her face if need be. Aurelia also pays a visit to a costuming shop where she purchases makeup and props for various simple disguises.
Costs: traveller's outfit (1 gp), disguise kit (50 gp)
She changes into the makeshift courier's outfit in an alleyway not far from Savasha Versade's mansion before heading on over to do the business.
Disguise: 1d20 + 4 + 2 + 5 ⇒ (8) + 4 + 2 + 5 = 19 The +5 modifier for "minor details only".
Upon arrival, she confidently strides towards the front door and raps on it, letter in hand. "Hello?" she calls out, "I have a letter for Lady Versade!"
Bluff: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (12) + 9 = 21
| GM Harker |
You're met at the door of the Villa by one of the servants, who appears to have no doubts that you a lowly courier. She then directs you to the Versade's personal secretary. This woman opens the letter with you standing in the room and appears confused by what she reads. When you infer that the Versade and the Paracountess have a continuing intimate relationship going on, the secretary nods knowingly, as if it were already common knowledge, which it will be by the morning.

Whoops, forgot to actually post my action by the time I got to a PC.
Quiella follows Moadis' lead. Hey big guy, where you running off to?
Climb: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
My armor check penalty is -2... but I'm not sure I'm wearing my armor since I supposedly left my EQ in my room and was just sightseeing. However, I've never specified what I left and what I took, so I guess it's just DM's discretion whether it applies or not. Honestly I'm not even sure what would be most advantageous to me in the long run anyway. *shrug*

can I stunning fist since the goblin has yet to try and leave the square, or do I need to pass the climb/tumble before I attack

Aurelia Ciucci

Though the situation didn't make much sense to her, it appears that the group wishes to subdue rather than slay this green-skinned nuisance, unfortunately. Aurelia sighs, rolls her eyes, and lifts her hands in the air as her hair crackles into flames and her eyes glow with smouldering embers. A few choice Infernal supplications later and a pointed gesture at the floor beneath the goblin results in a smear of slippery dark tar appearing beneath its feet!
Casting Grease on the floor beneath the goblin (hopefully avoiding PCs if possible), DC 16 Reflex or fall prone.
| GM Harker |
You would have made the climb roll regardless, Quiella. I leave it up to you whether she's wearing her armor or not.
Halkale is unable to get ahold of the quick moving goblin this time, while Valik's stunning punch similarly misses its target. Quiella climbs up the outside of the cottage and into the window, eliciting some strange stares from passersby. Aurelia's spell covers the ground in a magical slippery substance, but the goblin stays on her feet.
Aurelia, since the goblin is in melee with Halkale, Ophelia, and Valik, and Quiella just came through the window the goblin is standing next to, pick one of those names to also make a save against the Grease effect. With four characters adjacent, at least one of them would be effected. Feel free to determine it randomly if you wish.

Halkale is unable to stop himself from sliding into the grease, which causes the already off-balance ranger to continue to fall to the floor.

"Să harul Doamnei va trimite pe drumul tau," Ophelia breathes, her free hand glowing with a pale, soothing blue light. She reaches for the goblin, calling on the peace of the grave, but her gauntlet fails to connect.
Gentle rest: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (6) + 3 = 9 Melee touch attack. I'm guessing that's a miss, but if it's a hit, the goblin is staggered for one round.
| GM Harker |
The goblin deftly dodges Ophelia's touch attack.
Although the grease on the floor doesn't slow her down, it does foul up the goblin's attempt to dodge attacks as she tries to jump through the window. To make matters worse for the goblin, her foot gets stuck in the windowsill preventing her from escaping.
Halkale, Ophelia, Valik, and Quiella all have AoO's against the goblin if they want them.

Quiella

As far as the AoO is concerned, I'm pretty sure I didn't have my scimitar out yet:
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (16) + 5 = 21
Crit Damage (nonlethal): 1d2 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
I was not expecting that.
Quiella is not seeking to outright kill the Goblin, so I'm going to wait and see what happens with the other AoOs before stating my turn action.
| GM Harker |
My mistake. If you don't have a melee weapon out, you don't get an AoO. Valik has Improved Unarmed Strike so he can still attack with his fist, but I don't believe any of the other three have weapons readied. That being said, Quiella is you want to keep those nice dice for her regular attack, you may.
Quiella
|
Ah, of course. I forgot about that also. I'll wait to see the outcome of Valik's action. I'm concerned a crit with my scimitar could kill the Goblin outright... Could I keep the rolls but apply the -4 attack penalty to use nonlethal damage with a lethal weapon?
Quiella
|
Yeah, that's what I want to do. Moadis can, at best, only climb through the window on his turn, so here's my action:
Quiella draws her scimitar. Quite the pipes you got there, shrieker. She tries to smack the Goblin with the flat of her blade:
Pasting attack rolls from above, tweaking for Scimitar damage and -4 attack for nonlethal damage
Scimitar, Nonlethal Damage (+1 atk vs. Goblinoids): 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 1 = 21
Scimitar damage: 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6
Crit Confirmation: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (16) + 1 = 17
Scimitar, Crit Damage (nonlethal): 1d4 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 3 = 7
Ophelia Endronil

Hissing under her breath, Ophelia decides to try the exact same thing again.

Cursing her clumsiness, she instead draws her morningstar, ready to strike.
Halkale Timarson

Please modify as needed
Halkale reaches out to try to grab the goblin.
Grapple: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11
If I am too far away and won't grant an AOO, I'll just stand and draw my bow
Reflex, if needed: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (14) + 7 = 21
| GM Harker |
That crit confirms, Quiella.
Halkale, I believe standing up in an existing Grease spell doesn't require a reflex save, just moving through the squares requires an Acrobatics check DC 10.
The gnome paladin smacks the goblin's head hard with the flat side of her scimitar's blade, while Ophelia makes another attempt at touching the creature, but is unable to make contact. Halkale tries to grapple the goblin from a prone position, but she easily jumps out of the way.
Moadis and Aurelia are up!
Quiella
|
So if I understand the Nonlethal damage rules correctly, the goblin is not any closer to being *dead*, but it is closer to being unconscious. In other words, the threshold for knocking her out with lethal damage is now lower, right?
| GM Harker |
To keep things moving more briskly, Aurelia will delay this round.
Moadis tries another climb, but his armor keeps getting in the way.
Finally getting the hang of it, the goblin drops, tumbles, and rolls herself out onto the manor outer wall. She attempts to dodge attacks as she moves, but still leaves herself open to the well-trained Valik.
Her Acrobatics check to avoid AoO's wasn't high enough to overcome Valik's CMD, but I'm afraid it did overcome Quiella's.
Let's see the results of Valik's AoO before moving forward. If Aurelia has a chance to post in this time, she can feel free to take her last round actions.
Acrobatics-AoO avoidance: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (7) + 10 = 17
Drop, Tumble, Roll: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (18) + 10 = 28
Valik Frost

my CMD is only 17, did my math wrong 10 + 1 dex + 1str + 4 wis + 1 BAB =17. Unless you are trying to tumble through me then it goes to 22, but disregard my attack roll if necessary :)
Quit running, we won't stop chasing you
non-lethal aoo: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 191d6 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6
| GM Harker |
Ah, it looks like she avoided that AoO then, my apologies for the confusion.
Although suffering from a massive headache, the goblin has made it outside.
For those in the House Upstairs square, to exit you'll need to make one of the two skill checks. If you succeed, you'll move to the next square (Manor Outer Wall) with the goblin. Moadis can move directly into the Manor Outer Wall Square from his position outside. I posted more detailed rules about chases in a spoiler above.
Everyone up.
Quiella

-2 to Acrobatics makes the DC effectively 17 for me, which is still lower than the 20 for Climb (since I don't have a + for climb while armored), so...
HEY! Wait up, screecher! Quiella leaps out the window and attempts to imitate the Goblin's tumble and roll.
