Thank you for the gift Uori. We will do our best to help out. Moadis nods to the the gillman accepting the wand.

Go West - the musical interlude...
Aurelia murmurs a quiet thanks to the gillman, but she's much more interested in taking detailed notes of just how the rituals were activated.
The city and carvings were clearly magically (or possibly divinely) interconnected. It appears that we could still gain the blessings of Aroden with proper ritual actions, despite his apparent death many years ago. Could this mean that his power still remains on this world...? Is Aroden still alive...?
I guess Ophelia should take that wand. Not sure if anyone else here can cast it.

The passage leading west from the gillmen’s holy site varies from 3 to 6 feet wide and is coated with the omnipresent bioluminescent fungi. Although the group encounters several points where the tunnel branches off in different directions, all of those paths either narrow beyond the party's ability to traverse, lead back to the main trail or are blocked by cave-ins.
After traveling about 20 minutes, with the persistent glow of the bluish fungi dimly lighting the way, the tunnels broaden to reveal a shallow river that bisects an immense tunnel stretching to the north and south. To the east a small passage exits the chamber at a steep incline. On the opposite side of the river stand a trio of squat, ugly blue humanoids with extremely large heads. In their company is a human sized insectoid creature composed of lengthy segments and possessing large mandibles.
The big-headed fellows don't look happy to see you and one of them yells something in a language none of you understand.
Moving through the river squares cost two squares of movement and increase Acrobatic checks by 2.

Valik will move up 20 feet, ending 10 feet in front of Moadis. He takes up a defensive stance in hopes to parry aside any incoming blows.

Aurelia cautiously moves forward, training her crossbow on the strange blue creatures with narrowed eyes. She waits to see if they seem hostile before unleashing a bolt at the closest of them. "μείνετε κοντά," she murmurs to Malgorrak behind her. "Μπορούν να είναι επικίνδυνη."

Valik moves forward to defend the group, while Aurelia and her Eidolon take up nearby positions and ready themselves for aggressive actions from the blue fellows and insectoid across the river.
Evidently not the bravest creatures, the three small humanoids stay on the other side of the river, but move closer to throw darts at Valik. None of them come close to hitting the monk.
Once the creatures prove hostile, Aurelia fires her crossbow and hits one of the creatures, but doesn't appear to damage it. An annoying giggle erupts from the creature afterwards.

At work I can only access the map on my tablet, which means I cannot move myself. I would like to move Belroar two squares north of Valik, giving Moadis an opportunity to move up. Can't wait to get a BAB of +1, so I can draw and move....

Melufiuos draws upon his reservoir of arcane energy to empower his bow, but with his allies in the way his shot veers from its target.
The insect-like creature of unusual size crosses the river and engages Belroar. Its mandibles snap into the half-orc, leaving him with a minor wound that threatens to poison him.

Pleased by the ruthless efficiency of her adventuring partners, Aurelia nods to Valik and smiles. She draws a single bolt from the leather quiver on her back, loading it into her crossbow and takes aim.
"They seem to have some kind of magic about them - my bolts don't seem to be doing much of anything," she informs the group as she pulls the trigger.

Luckily, her shot this time is a little more precise.

Ophelia clutches the holy symbol about her neck tightly and begins chanting in Varisian. A warm lavender glow spreads from her hand, fading as it reaches each of her allies and infusing them with a feeling of serenity.

Humanoid attack
Dagger: 1d20 ⇒ 6
Damage: 1d3 - 1 ⇒ (1) - 1 = 0
Whatever resistance the blue humanoids have to Aurelia's crossbow bolts, it's not enough to overcome a head shot. The summoner drops the south one. Magorrak makes haste across the river as per Aurelia's command.
Ophelia calls upon the Lady of Graves to bless the group.
One the remaining blue creatures screams at the other one in an unfamiliar tongue. It moves into melee range with Malgorrak and attempts to stab him. Its blade doesn't come close. The screaming one then appears to be trying to place some magical effect on the Eidolon.
The creature is trying to place Doom on Malgorrak.

Will Save: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (18) + 2 = 20
Whatever pathetic magics the strange blue creature is casting on him is nothing in comparison to the might of Hell. Malgorrak grins in vicious glee as he turns upon the little one that tried to stab him...
Claw: 1d20 + 4 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 4 + 1 = 22 Damage: 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 3 = 6

Crossbow: 1d20 + 2 + 1 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 2 + 1 - 4 = 8 Penalty as I think that Moadis is in melee with it now
Aurelia attempts to repeat her headshot feat but comes quite short this time--after all, Moadis is in the way. The summoner shrugs nonchalantly and lowers her weapon to let the others finish off the job.
| GM Harker |
The shallow bog conditions of the river prevent charging, I believe, but that wouldn't have made a difference in this case anyway.
Belroar successfully fights off the poison in his system and moves forward.
Moadis rushes into the water, but the strange footing of the river throws off his attack.
Easily shrugging off the magical effect that targeted him, Malgorrak eviscerates the creature that tried to stab him and moves closer to the last enemy. Aurelia's crossbow bolt misses its mark.

Valik Frost

Valik, seeing the enemies go down, watches as the line blue creature stands in defiance and lashes out at his allies. He carefully proceeds into the river, watching his step, and navigates the water with ease. Once nearing the blue creature he takes a punch at him, while still covering up his vital parts. The water rushes past him unexpectedly, causing his punch to go wide.

Also, depending on the answer to that first questions, I'm not sure you have enough movement speed to cross the river and attack in the same turn, since the water squares count as two squares of movement.
Valik Frost
|
To not fall flat on my face/ to be able to move they water. Was unsure if the first square would cost me x2 or not so I just guessed...unless I could jump but wasn't sure I had 10 feet head start or not lol
Melufiuos Benidictus
|
Mel is still pretty far back, but that does not seem to matter. His companions have made quick work of most of the creatures. Nevertheless, Mel runs up and tries to get off one more shot before it is all over.
Bow: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (20) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 25 (Confirm: 1d20 + 3 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (13) + 3 + 1 + 1 = 18) ... dmg: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (8) + 1 + 1 = 10
So is that 8x3+2 or 10x3?
The young elf grins hugely at his mighty shot. After his failures in the previous room, his spirits needed a boost and they got them. He lets out a whoop and exclaims, "Did you see it? Did you see it? That was soooo awesome! Man I would have loved to have seen that up close!" He elbows Valik, "Did you see it? Right between the eyes!" He beams over at Aurelia, "Did you see it? What a shot! I did that!" Completely forgetting that the rest of the party did most of the work, he begins strutting around, "Who's tha elf? Oh yeah, that's right. I'm the elf. Uh hu!" It takes him a few minutes to calm down and notice what is going on around him.
| GM Harker |
@Mel, it's 3d8+3. I'm unclear where you came up with the additional +1 damage outside of the enhancement bonus, bless is only an attack bonus and longbows only add in strength modifier damage if they are composite.
Not to be outdone by the Summoner, Melufiuos takes out the last blue creature with a headshot of his own.
Combat Over
Belroar Bloodlet
|
Belroar sheathes his spear and goes back to pick up his greatsword.
Scrubbing his hands over his face, feeling the last effects of the poison leaving his body, he sighs.
I assume I still have the Dex damage, 3 wasn't it?
| GM Harker |
Knowledge (Nature) would be the necessary skill to identify both the blue creatures and the insect thing.
Moadis finds no other threats, but notes the passages north and south of this cavern narrow until they become just an inlet or outlet for the river. Other than the way the group came into the room, the only navigable tunnel heads east out of the cavern.
Valik Frost
|
Valik, moves across the river in an effort to cut off the creatures escape, when an arrow goes whizzing by his head. When Valik follows the arrow, he sees it impale the final enemy, nearly exiting its cranium and striking the far wall. Valik looks back to see the elation and joy on Mel's face. Upon being nudged in the ribs, Valik can only smile. He himself has never been the boastful type, but he would never put his views on others, especially when in all truth...it was a great shot by a young marksmen.
Shall we proceed farther, lest we return from whence we came?
Ophelia Endronil
|
Before Ophelia has a chance to release her holy symbol, Mel's headshot ends the last creature's life, and the din of combat ceases. Sighing with relief, she releases the symbol, letting the death-spiral settle back against her breastbone.
"That was wonderful!" she beams at the elf, patting his shoulder with one mail-gauntleted hand. Turning to the party at large, she asks, "Does anyone require the Lady's blessing?"
Melufiuos Benidictus
|
Doh, my bad! Yes, the extraneous +1 damage was supposedly from bless. And, LOL, I should know better since Bless has been that way since 1e.
Just for grins (keeping the orig 8):
dmg: 8 + 2d8 + 3 ⇒ 8 + (3, 4) + 3 = 18
Aurelia Ciucci
|
Aurelia seems a little miffed that everyone's fawning over Mel, but she simply hmphs! to herself before proceeding to pretend that it doesn't matter to her at all. She concentrates on hiking up her dress in preparation for the brief hike across the river.
"I suppose it was a nice shot," she says vaguely. "It's good you also found the weak point in their head!"
Melufiuos Benidictus
|
A warm shoulder pat and a hmph; nearly opposite reactions. Mel is clearly confused. Was Aurelia jealous that Ophelia touched him? He give up and foolishly writes it off as a mysterious "female thing". I guess guys can be dumb and self centered even when they are elves
Mel splashes across the water quickly to see what they just fought. Do they have magic? Are these the things bothering the fishy guys?

Ophelia gives Aurelia that strange smile as she lays a hand on the Chelaxian woman's shoulder. "Let the swallowtail seek all the attention it desires, and know that the observant see more than its beauty," she says softly.
To Belorar, she shakes her head. "I apologize, but Pharasma has not yet granted me the power to remove poison. It will leave over time, though. And should you face a more immediate wound, I can call on her favour."
Aurelia Ciucci
|
Ophelia's comment elicits a curious (and puzzled) look from Aurelia, and she spends quite a long time with pursed lips and a frown before settling on a reaction: a shockingly sincere (albeit somewhat weak) smile. "I'm not quite sure what you mean," she confides quietly in the other woman, "but... thanks. I think."
Hey, 8 Wis. What can ya do...
Aurelia then slowly picks her way across the riverbank, trying to jump from rock to rock where she can to avoid getting particularly wet.
I'm ready to go.
