Alaneo White-whiskers
|
"Ice... uff... puff... breaks everything!" says Alaneo, looking back at Bernard. "I hope they don't notice it was only luck!"
Nikolai Vancaskerkin
|
"I'm not a break-in specialist," Nikolai says with a shrug. "I'm more a breaking specialist." He pulls his hatchet again, and gets ready to hack his way into the chest, if Alaneo's remarkable efforts didn't open it.
Alaneo White-whiskers

It was a DC 15 and surprisingly, Alaneo "nailed it", if I can say.
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
It's "breaking door" time, buddies! xD
Kusunoki Masashige
|
I know where to go, so I'm going to abstain from choosing a door.
Masa looks on approvingly at the feat of strength, waiting for the group to choose a door, but he cares little for robbing these tiny creatures.
"We should hurry. The sewers are no place to linger." he remarks.
Once the decision is made, Masa will force it open and lead the way.
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
"This door", Bernard points to the door in front of him. "The mites was fleeing to there, and it is locked. Maybe we can find answers there. Someone can put it down?"
| GM Fuzzfoot |
I could swear I posted earlier, but it is gone...
The door in front of Bernard is unlocked. The one Alaneo was in front f was locked. But Bernard is right about where the mites were headed.
You open the door, and see another door. This 15-foot-by-30 foot room is clean and dust-free. A stack of barrels in the southeast corner are the only furnishings.
Masa: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Stealth: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (19) + 9 = 28
Alaneo: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17
Bernard: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (20) + 4 = 24
Kusunoki: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (14) + 3 = 17
Nikolai: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (18) + 3 = 21
Sheela: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Opponents: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
As Masa enters the room, the door behind him slams shut as a derro dwarf attacks him from behind.
Short Sword Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (11) + 5 = 16
Damage: 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (1) + (2) = 3
Round 1: (Bold may act)
Bernard, Nikolai
Derro
Alaneo, Masa, Sheela
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
Bernard tumbles away from the door to the opposite corner and shoots his crossbow against the derro dwarf.
Acrobatics + Adaptable Luck: 1d20 + 8 + 2 ⇒ (8) + 8 + 2 = 18
+1 light crossbow: 1d20 + 8 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 8 - 4 = 221d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Nikolai Vancaskerkin
|
"Awww, Hell, the dumb bastard got himself separated!", Nikolai grumbles, rushing over to the door, attempting to reopen it.
Is it stuck or something? If not, I just move to my current location and open the door. If I need to make a d20 roll, here's the roll!
Check?: 1d20 ⇒ 3
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Luckily, you did not need to force it open - it was simply slammed shut. You can still go ahead with an attack. (I am going to go on, however, as I don't think you will drop him).
Bernard does nick him with a bolt.
The derro continues to attack Masa, trying to put him down before he even gets a change to react.
Attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (14) + 5 = 19
Damage: 1d4 + 1d6 ⇒ (2) + (1) = 3
Round 1: (Bold may act)
Bernard, Nikolai
Derro (4 dmg)
Alaneo, Masa (6 dmg from fight), Sheela
Round 2: (Bold may act)
Bernard, Nikolai

Not bothering himself to hit in the melee, Alaneo covers once again the area under the derro's feet in ice.
Slick utility wild talent. Ref DC 15 or fall.
Sheela Kolphan
|
Sheela will wait for someone to open the door. Then she will snap her fingers and disrupt the Derro's senses.
Will Save DC 16 to resist.
Kusunoki Masashige
|
Masa feels the pinpricks in his back as he turns to the Derro. "You have chosen the wrong target, creature." he says calmly as his eyes flash.
Power Attack + Furious Focus + Challenge + Iaijutsu Strike on Derro.
In a single flash, he unsheathes his sword and tries to strike down the derro.
Iaijutsu Strike @ Derro: 1d20 + 6 + 1 ⇒ (1) + 6 + 1 = 8 :(
GM Reroll - Iaijutsu Strike @ Derro: 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (9) + 5 + 3 = 17
Damage: 1d8 + 6 + 3 + 1 + 1d6 ⇒ (8) + 6 + 3 + 1 + (4) = 22
Bernard Nimblefeet

Don't think I can attack, as opening a door is a move action, and I had to move to get next to the door.
I think that the door was already opened...

Didn't the derro slam that shut? I don't think anyone else opened it.

Yes, but the GM said:

Otherwise, Bernard wouldn't attack too. :/
| GM Fuzzfoot |
The issue is resolved by Masa's response to being attacked which the derro is dropped by a mighty slice.
Combat is over.
Alaneo White-whiskers
|
Alaneo gets in and begins to search the place.
Perception: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (12) + 6 = 18
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
"Great blow, Masa!", Bernard praises the samurai.
"So, what do we have here...", the halfling wondered aloud, while rummaging the place.
Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22
Nikolai Vancaskerkin
|
Nikolai throws open the door, and is rewarded with a hot splash of derro blood in the face. "Fan-f**king-tastic," he says, wiping the gore away. "Well, looks like you had Taterhead here well in hand, Masa. Anything valuable on him?" Nikolai goes through the evil dwarf's effects.
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Near the barrels is a large chest in which you find 250 gp.
In the next room with straw pallets are stacks and stacks of cages full of normal rats. On a small table next to those cages is a small, shiny black rat statue. You also find a ledger written in Undercommon.
Alaneo White-whiskers
|
"Anyone can read that?" says Alaneo, waving the paper and ignoring the gold.
Sheela Kolphan
|
Sheela shrugs. "I've never had to. One seamstress I knew- the one with the skin disorder- usually read this stuff for me."
| GM Fuzzfoot |
You all are one toe away from the finish line here....
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
"Gather them up, though," Nikolai says, leading by example as he collects the ledgers. "Someone at the Lodge should be able to translate."
"All right, let's take it there and see if they can translate".
Alaneo White-whiskers
|
"Someone can open the other locked doors? If it's not the case, I can damage them with my ice till the doors break..." says Alaneo, readying his ice to do so, before the door he previously wanted to open.
| GM Fuzzfoot |
Nearly all of the buildings to the north hold dozens of cages full of Cassomiri citizens. The door locks are DC 15, as are the cages, but you find some keys among the derro's possessions that let you unlock the doors.
As each cage contains 10 or more people, you have just rescued many who were bound for a dark life of slavery! Congratulations!
Unfortunately, technically, you have completed the scenario, but not succeeded at your mission. Does anyone want to re-read the mission before we close this out?
Alaneo White-whiskers

"Arieta told me of an artifact she saw while in captivity below Cassomir. This artifact, called the jet rat, is known to us, but we must confirm that what she saw is indeed true. She claims to have seen it transform normal rats into something bigger, more vile and mean. If that’s true, the artifact she saw down there is old, evil, and should be stored safely in the vaults beneath the Grand Lodge in Absalom where we can study, catalog, and examine it. Worse, she claims to have seen this object in the hands of the derros, vile Darklands creatures that we have long suspected are responsible for the Cassomir kidnappings. I have a map here that shows the location of the sewer grate Arieta was dropped through when she was kidnapped. She could not, due to her illness, recall much about how she got to the location where they kept her in captivity, but she knows where they dropped her into the sewers and you’ll find that location on this map.”
"Hey, we need to find that artifact! Where could it be? We should look around the derro for it! Or maybe the crates the mites were moving..." says the undine.
I will take 20 for a 26 in perception to inspect the house where the derro was and same with the crates.
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
"Hey, we need to find that artifact! Where could it be? We should look around the derro for it! Or maybe the crates the mites were moving..."
"F~~#! I forgot it!"
"Yes, sure! I was going to say that now!" - the halfling says, adjusting his hat.
With no idea of where to start, Bernard looks at the conjurers of the group - "So, any idea of how we can find this artifact?"
Sheela Kolphan
|
Sheela is overjoyed when the party finds the kidnapped citizens. "Oh! You're all alive! I thought we were too late! Don't worry, we're here to help you!" Sheela giggles like a schoolgirl.
Upon hearing Alaneo's words, she asks the people, "Has anyone seen a small rat statue? Maybe something that made a rat bigger? Normally, I'd ask the dark dwarf but...he's not in any condition to speak."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (10) + 7 = 17
Sheela will also take 20 for a 20 Perception to help look for statue.
Nikolai Vancaskerkin
|
Yeah, I think we've hit the 'take 20 on Perception and detect magic every 5' square' section of the mod.
"Dammit, the thing has to be here somewhere...", Nikolai says, beginning to break open crates and toss the entire place for clues to the jet rat.
| GM Fuzzfoot |
I believe you all auto-fail your perception rolls.. Check this post (about 10 back)
Kidnappings slow in the city, but continue to expand in the countryside around Cassomir. Rumors begin to circulate throughout the city that the derro menace has been stopped, but some whisper darker tidings, such as the recent spotting of a derro inside the walls of Swift Prison, a rumor the Taldan authorities heatedly deny.
Chronicles out later today! Is everyone still in for Part 3? And I think we are down to 5 - would you like me to recruit an additional player?
Bernard Nimblefeet
|
... On a small table next to those cages is a small, shiny black rat statue.
LOL!
EDIT: I'm in for part 3. Additional players are always welcome. :)
Sheela Kolphan
|
durrr
"Oh. Here it is!" Sheela takes the statue. "Now, everyone, let's head back. Single file! No swimming!"
Sheela is glad to get some rest and party.
"So many rumors... we're not done here. Not by a longshot. I've lost too many friends already. I personally make sure I don't lose more." Sheela writes a letter to her family and prepares to buy some goods.
I'll continue in part 3. Let's find another person.
Nikolai Vancaskerkin
|
/facepalm
"Alright, we've got the thing - let's get the hell out of here." As they leave, Nikolai falls back, heading back into the room where the twin priest was tied up. "Don't think I forgot about you," he says, drawing his hatchet. "I told you...we have a score to settle..."
Alaneo White-whiskers
|
come on haha xD
I'm up for part 3 as well!
Alaneo stays silent, meditating on this nearly failed mission.

Masa watches the unfolding chaos with an odd grin. These people are quite entertaining, if a bit obtuse. Oh well, might as well see this through. he remarks in his head before pocketing the rat statue and heading towards the surface.
