I am looking to run the three First Steps scanarios for new Pathfinder Society characters.
This will be PFS organized play.
All characters must be PFS legal, and must have ID numbers.
In the spirit of PFS, your character is yours, as long as it is within the rules. I will not be looking at background when picking characters, and I will try to simply select a reasonable group of starting characters to run.
If you are not familiar with pathfinder society rules, please refer to the Guide to Pathfinder Society Organized Play. The rules for what are legal in organized play are there, and supplemented here.
First Steps is a set of 3 scenarios to be run by brand new first level PFS characters, without any previous XP. I will not accept any characters that have run through any other scenarios, they must be 'new'. At the completion of the third module, retroactive prestige points will be awarded for all three modules, and you will then have the opportunity to pick a faction. You do NOT have to choose a faction before we start, and the idea is that First Steps will help you choose an appropriate faction for your character.
I'd rather not use this thread as a Q&A for things like "What is PFS?" and "How does prestige work?" so if you don't understand that stuff, please read the documentation I have linked to, or the forums, etc. There's plenty of information out there and I don't want to bog down with it here. :)
I'd like to keep the pace reasonably quick, so please do not apply unless you're comfortable with a few things:
- Players are expected to post at least daily.
- If you won't be able to post for a period of time, please LET US KNOW, and either work out another player to make decisions for you, or have me GMPC for you.
- To keep things moving smoothly, the only time I will wait a full day for everyone to post is during combat. Everyone is expected to jump in and roleplay, but if only a couple of people end up taking part in a conversation, they are presumed to be speaking for the group.
- Because prestige is awarded retroactively at the end of the third scenario, you really want to stick it out all the way to the end. Please don't apply if you don't intend to at least try to do that.
- Please don't bring a character you want to go play in PFS any time soon. Three scenarios of PbP could keep your character occupied for a long time, and using the same character elsewhere won't make sense until you're done here.
I will start with the maximum number of legal players (7) so that if people drop out we hopefully keep enough to complete all three scenarios. If we lose too many people, I will recruit replacement characters between scenarios.
After each of the three scenarios, I will reward a chronicle sheet for the completed scenario. If you do decide that you have to leave, that is the time to do so, so that you still get credit for what you have completed. You can then take that character and go do the later parts somewhere else, and get the same credit as if you had completed them all with me.
If you haven't been scared away, please link to your character here if you'd like to apply.

Added 4 characters so far that have applied (character apps are listed on the campaign info tab). Looks like we are in need of divine, arcane, and social skills. We have ample damage and tankiness.
When we get 6 players, I'll see what we're still missing and ask if any of the first 6 are willing to switch up their character to something the party needs desperately.
This being PFS, I will be trying to keep to first come first served as much as possible, so people who want these last 2 spots and are willing to commit, please sign up ASAP. :)
(Chainmail: I grabbed Jory off your profile. I actually just started a level 1 dwarf zen archer myself, we'll see how they go!)

About the only things we have in common are our charisma and dex scores.
Here's mine.

I definitely want to play with the cool things Pathfinder is doing with the Rogue, and would lean towards being the party face. Still rather new to Golarion (but I've ordered the Inner Sea World Guide from my FLGS), but will do what I can to provide a reasonable backstory. Will draft a character presently. PFS number will be 44190-2.
I'm also cool with going with a divine caster party face if things work out that way. I already have a PFS wizard, though, and don't want to double-up on arcane casters so soon.
EDIT: Erp, looks like we already have a Rogue. Right. I'll work on a divine character of some sort.

No worries, Talhaearn, really: I did some reading and thinking and a cleric concept occurred to me that I want to pursue. Here is the character; will be fleshing out the mechanics and backstory presently.

Figured I'd throw in that I'd be willing to take a spot as well. I'd like to get in as a player in PFS if at all possible. Problem is this. I've done First Steps (at Gencon last year), and I'm actually running them on these boards as well. I'd be more than willing to step aside for someone else in either case, but do have interst in playing them with a fresh character.

GM Fnord |

Chris: Cleric should mesh well with the party.
Xxaral: There are no replay limits on first steps. You are welcome to the last slot if you can bring something facy to the party. A bard would probably be a perfect fit, but there are a lot of other options that would mesh well. If you have something else specific you'd like to play, there are a couple of other players who are willing to change their character choices before we start.
I will tentatively give you two the last 2 spots. When we see what characters you guys come up with, we'll give everybody a day or two to come up with final character sheets, and then get started.

GM Fnord |

BTW Xxaral, I will actually be very happy to have you around if you can avoid spoiler issues. I haven't GM'd PbP before (but I play in quite a few) and my PFS experience is pretty limited as well, my characters are only level 1 and 2, so having an experienced GM as a player could come in very handy. I believe that I'm fully up to the task, but I do appreciate advice.

Hi Fnord, thank you for the tentative acceptance! I have the mechanics finalized for my cleric and will be working on backstory presently. I expect to have something up at the aforementioned URL in a few hours. Tiann likes to talk to people and try to get them to agree, but circumstances—notably her age (read: clerics getting zilch for skill points)—prevent her from having the silvered tongue of a bard or rogue.
You can probably tell by my PFS number that I'm rather new to PFS, but if I can help out with anything I'd be glad to.

This is Chris Nehren's Cleric, complete with backstory. I'm pretty fond of the backstory, and am very much looking forward to breathing life into the story I've written so far.

I'm going to go ahead and stat out a character, but if Ayrphish want's that last spot I'd be more than happy to pass it to him. I really don't have that much experience with pbp GMing or PFS, though I do have quite abit of RPGA experience (and just general GMing). But if you have any questions please throw 'em my way and I'll do my best to help out.

GM Fnord |

Ayrphish: Xzaral is yielding a spot if you would like it. You can have it if you can do something not completely melee focused that you want to play. :) Please let me know before Monday night if you'll be joining us, and if so, go ahead and set up a character.
Everyone else, please put your crunch in your profiles if it's not there yet so I can check 'em over for PFS. Looking like a good group!

I have input my character data into a myth-weavers character sheet here. Fnord, if you need it on the character page, please let me know and I'll transfer it over.

The link in your profile page is fine, I just need to be able to find people's sheets somewhere in their profiles.

If there is a spot still open, or if one opens up, I'd love to take it. I've got a pair of level 1s right now, and Id be willing to dedicate either one to this, whichever is better suited for the party.
One is a Human Saurian Shaman Druid named Tinta Greenriver, though Im not entirely certain on the animal companion yet.
The other is a Gnome Oracle of Flame by the name of Brand Gebruik.
I dont have the stats or background online yet, but I can get them up soon if need be.

Links to the details are on the campaign info tab. We have:
Barbarian (Armored Hulk)
Fighter (THF)
Rogue
Monk (Zen Archer)
Cleric (of Saranrae)
My personal recommendations would be a bard, a skill heavy wizard, a social skill loaded sorcerer, or even a summoner or alchemist. But, we can make anything work.

GM Fnord |

Here is our party:
Nayr Trebrot: Karzak, Dwarf Barbarian (Armored Hulk)
Filios: Jake Hargrove, Human Fighter (THF)
Deane Beman: Talhearn, Elf Rogue
Chainmail: Jory Redcap, Dwarf Monk (Zen Archer)
Chris Nehren: Tiann Ceriaghu, Human Cleric
Ayrphish: Ice Glen Inlet, Human Wizard
Status:
Karzak: reviewing crunch. Need PFS #.
Jake Hargrove: reviewing crunch.
Talhearn: Need PFS #.
Jory Redcap: Need crunch in profile.
Tiann Ceriaghu: reviewing crunch.
Ice Glen Inlet: Need crunch in profile. Need PFS #.

By the way folks, when picking traits, if you prefer, you are allowed to pick just one of your starting traits before doing first steps, to leave an open trait for a faction trait, since you don't have to pick a faction until the end. After running first steps, you can pick a trait from your final faction, or if none of those meet your needs, you can fill in a non-faction traits. The usual restrictions on traits apply (no 2 starting traits from the same category).

I've made some adjustments to my character sheet; and I am now a Half-Elf. I will also take advantage of leaving a trait open until the First Steps conclude and will adjust my character sheet accordingly.
OK
My PFS # is: 6919
If this is your first character, it would be 6919-1. If it's not your first character, I'll need the -# for this one.

Sorry...my number for this character is indeed 6919-1.
