GM EDDV's Ire of the Storm

Maps and Handouts

Scarab Sages

Hello All

This has been a project I have been sitting on for a little while now, but which I am excited to begin with all of you.

The idea is to play Ire of the Storm as a little mini-campaign and use it as a lead into the Year 9 Exchange Meta-plot taking place largely in this coastal southern Garund region

My game plan:

Ire of the Storm (level 1 or 2 if you're bringing in an existing PFS character and which will take you to level 5)
Champion's Chalice Pt 1 (5.1)
Champion's Chalice Pt 2 (5.2)
Signs in Senghor (5.3)
Bloodcove Blockade (6.1)
Before the Dawn Pt 1 (6.2)*
Before the Dawn Pt 2 (6.3)*
The Ghol-Gan Heresy (7.1)

*these two are somewhat negotiable but there isn't a lot of fitting content to splice in at that tier

This should form a nice little narrative and will be run with as much connective tissue as I can really muster. If you wish to drop out at any point between scenarios that will be fine too - it shouldn't be too hard to find replacements at any given scenario break.

I would prefer this to be done in CORE, but I won't force it if there's no interest

Normally for my PFS tables I go with the customary first come first served but since this is a longer term commitment, I would like to see a little more before I choose a table. Ideally, the character will have been created with this project in mind, but if you have an existing character you are excited to play through this then that's fine too.

So for each player I would like to see:

Character:
PFS#:
Faction (if applicable):
CORE or CLASSIC:
Character Concept:
Roleplay/writing sample: Just something that tells me you'll be up to playing this character longer term than a normal PFS session.

I will be looking to choose 5-6 people.

Thanks GM Eddv for the offer! Below you find my character concept.

Character: Aryas Eltran
PFS#: 314670-5
Faction (if applicable): Grand Lodge
CORE or CLASSIC: Classic
Character Concept: Halfling, Bloodrager 1 / Bard 1

Roleplay/writing sample:
"It is hard to give when you have given all you can give. When you have given up your country, your culture, your roots ... no, when you were forced to give up all this. My parents were from the notoriously insular Song’o tribe of the Laughing Jungle in the south of Sargava. They would have loved to live their life in peace. But they were abducted. Abducted by the Chelish to work as slaves in a country they despised and a culture that eventually tortured them to death. I was was born in Egorion and was treated as slips are treated at the bottom of Chelish society. After the brutal death of my parents I was lucky. Many have heard of the Bellflower Network but to receive the assistance of these angels is something I will never forget. My escape to Korvosa was just a coincidence but here I started to think about a saying ... your roots define the core of what you are. In my case many aspects of my roots are unknown to me. I long to see the homeland of my parents ... to understand my roots. Yes, I will return to Sargava!"

The Exchange

I would also much prefer to pay this in Core.

Character: Mak'da
PFS#: 44523-39
Faction (if applicable): Exchange
CORE or CLASSIC: CORE
Character Concept: Reluctant go between, Half elf (ekujae) Druid 2

Roleplay/writing sample: The Mwangi is my home, why are these foreigners here? Mother says we must work with them, must learn from them but they know nothing, certainly not how to survive the dangers of the jungle. She says that father was one of them but I have never met him and those I have met have been foolish. But, I will honour her wishes and work with these humans even if they have stirred up the lizard folk. Gozreh preserves those who understand the wild.

Definitely interested. Will check my stable and see who is available and what would be suitable :)

Scarab Sages

Character: Say'ri Al Bashere
Player: Nikolaus de'Shade
PFS #: 200192-7
Faction: Scarab Sages
Core/Classic: Either.
Concept: Dedicated to Horus since birth Say'ri has travelled south, led by strange disruptions in the winds until she reached Pridon's Hearth. (Osirian Paladin of Horus 1) If we go classic I'd happily play her as a fighter - if its core I'll stick to Paladin.

Roleplaying Sample: A long running campaign Say'ri played in can be found Here. An RP sample I'm particularly happy with was this one when Say'ri suffered a near death experience in the Tomb of Akhentepi, and found out she had a famous ancestor!

"Horus whispers to us in the wind, but lately his messages are... troubled. Even the eldest of our priests find it hard to discern his will and the sacred falcons are uneasy. I feel the wind though - pushing me south. Every day I travel the air becomes more disturbed, harder to breathe. Something is wrong and I believe Lord Horus wants me to find out what it is."

I would like to apply to join, and like that this could be a longer term commitment. CORE is my preference, and I would like to create a character specifically for this game.

Character: Antal Strongheart
PFS#: 28901-10
Faction: Scarab Sages
CORE or CLASSIC: CORE
Character Concept: A halfling ranger with divided loyalty, to the scarab sages and to the church of Irori. A seeker of knowledge, history, and treasure. Antal would like to remain neutral, but against his better judgement he will side with the colonists and become involved in their conflict.

Roleplay/Writing sample: (from recent CORE game, playing a pregen!)
Hell's Rebels - Merisiel

Also note, I am involved with just the one PbB game above and would take this on as a second. I will likely only play these two so that I can stay focused on good posts and immersion!

The Exchange

I would love to do this in CORE. This CORE character has only done the Confirmation.

Character:Xanko Rhenee
PFS#: 114768-47
Faction (if applicable):Exchange
CORE or CLASSIC: CORE
Character Concept:Fighter that is a swashbuckler theme- would take the duelist PrC. Care free, noble irritating, fighter with swagger. Light on his feet and light with his fingers. Xanko is often called the Varisian Cayden Cailen due to the similar looks. However he has an irritating and abrasive personality. He is a dandy of a swordsman and hails from the Varisian barge folk, who are known to be less reputable than others.
Roleplay/writing sample:
Xanko leans one hand against the cavern wall..."Is it over...?" he pants out..."Did we get all of them...?" he wheezes for some air. "We all make it...? Did we get anything good....? Wow I need to work on my cardio."

"I need to take a bath and scrub all this grime of me. Then maybe hit the tavern for a few drinks... whose with me? I hear Sheila is dancing tonight..."

The Exchange

This is Arisira, a Level 1, XP 0 core bard that is currently wrapping up her first PFS scenario. I could either modify her to match your start point, or just throw her in as is (once this dragging game ends)

Character: Arisira (F Halfling Bard)
PFS#: 273096-5
Faction (if applicable): Exchange
CORE or CLASSIC: Core
Character Concept: Bard/Archer, personality is playful/sarcastic/optimistic.

Roleplay/writing sample: "You had me at adventure!, punctuating the statement with a flurry of a bow. "You don't make it into the legends by staying at home and counting your gold. It is the glory that matters!...Well, I guess the gold matters a little..." Her weight sifts back and forth uneasily. There is nothing quite like an audition to get your nerves going...

You can find her current campaign here: Fallen Fortress

I can also direct you to some other of my active aliases if you want more of a feeling for my posting style!

Okay! My proposal for a classic campaign character above is probably irrelevant as it looks like this is going to be a CORE game! Never played CORE before so I would give it a try. Just thought about the classes and I think I would play a Wizard given the post so far which lean towards more martial characters. ;-)

Character: Shen Hawaah
PFS#: 314670-6
Faction (if applicable): Grand Lodge
CORE or CLASSIC: CORE
Character Concept: Elf, Wizard 1

Roleplay/writing sample:

I believe you have seen my RPG/posting style so I am giving a little bit of background on the character. I am trying to build a connection to Cheliax and Sargava.

Shen had a rough start in life. Found decades ago before the rise of house Thrune on the steps of the temple of Calistria, wrapped in blankets, with no name or note of any kind but a golden mark resembling the holy symbol of the Savored Sting on his arm, his life could have ended right there.

But two Calistrian priests, a Sargavan spy and a Korvosan prostitute, Sharon and Kollina, had received a repeating vision that showed two elves in an immoral union and a strange golden mark on their arms that were identical to the mark on the child in front of their steps.

Irritated but obliged to follow this mystical sign the two women cared for the kid in an environment not typical for a child. They named him Shen and although the life of Sharon and Kollina was centered mainly on themselves and pleasure came before duty they raised him in the faith of Calistria.

Though Shen was not the only child in the temple, his innocence and initial lack of social aptitude led to a harsh life in a house where seduction, vengeance and erratic behavior were the norm. Although he also saw the good that could potentially result from the faith, he also saw the evil that was committed in her name.

A child is framed by the environment that he lives in but Shen was never comfortable with the full aspect Calistria’s portfolio, and it was clear after a while that although he was devoted to his two mothers, Shen was not willing to accept Calistria as his goddess.

The rise of house Thrune and the attack on the Calistrian faith throughout Cheliax led to a disaster that Shen could not have imagined. In a single night the majority of Calistrian clerics in Kintargo were either killed, imprisoned or pushed into hiding. Although Shen was already an adolescent at that time it was nonetheless a shock for him when Sharon proclaimed him independent and left him on his own to leave Cheliax.

Shen ’s survival was not a certainty but he was successful to follow his teachings and made a path through Cheliax that led him to a far corner where his Chelish roots would hold but resistance versus house Thrune was also visible: Sargava!

Character Personality:
Although he is not a follower of Calistria, Shen’s personality is partially shaped by his two mothers that were Calistrian clerics. Shen wants nothing more and nothing less than the freedom to live as he pleases without bothering his environment. He is against the way of the wicked, and distastes amoral behavior. Nonetheless, he values the individual’s right to satisfaction, in whatever form that takes. He accepts that one’s actions have consequences, and knows that life is not fair, nor is it good or evil. It simply is, and he is determined to seize every moment together with companions and help others to experience the fruits that life has to offer.

The Exchange

Character: Luh Kee
PFS#: 177216-13
Faction (if applicable): Exchange
CORE or CLASSIC: CORE
Character Concept: Luh Kee is a scoundrel who does her best to fight without fighting, using control spells to hinder enemies or lure them into traps rather than attacking directly. Likes to use spells like Animate Rope and Unseen Servant to set up and deploy traps while she leads enemies into disadvantageous positions. She will start at Bard 1, with plans to multiclass into Rogue, and eventually get into the Pathfinder Chronicler prestige class.
Roleplay/writing sample: Ai ya, would you look at all these buildings?! thinks the elven woman as she wanders through the streets of Absalom. Whose idea was it to put them so close together like that? No way you could grow anything here. Turning at the sound of a disturbance down an alleyway, she spots a scrawny, but hard looking young man pushing around a small boy. Seems like a fun place to play some tricks though. With a flick of her wrist, a length of rope at the edge of the alley slithers silently toward the pair. When it gets behind the young ruffian, the rope rises up like a cobra and gives him a tap on the shoulder. As the boy turns to face whatever fool is interrupting his fun, the rope loops itself around his ankles and pulls his feet out from under him, sending his m sprawling into the mud.

With a look of terror, the small boy runs from the alley and passes an eleven woman with a wry grin. The elf gives him a wink, then continues strolling along toward the Grand Lodge of the Pathfinder Society.

Liberty's Edge

Aleth Cadairn, human unchained summoner, and his eidolon Eddie
267725-1
Liberty’s Edge
Standard character creation (I assume this is what you meant by core or classic, but I wasn’t sure)
Character Concept For reasons beyond his own knowledge, Aleth’s mind seems to have a tenuous link to Azathoth, the Blind Idiot God. He has forged a connection with a bizarre eldritch creature who he calls Eddie (since his true name is almost unpronounceable).
Roleplaying Sample Aleth leaned back, looking up at the sky. He began idly tracing the mark on his left palm, as he did when he let his mind wander. "I don’t know, I just don’t understand why that shopkeeper was so scared. Yes, you’re technically not from this plane of existence, but still…” He heard Eddie mutter something in Aklo. Aleth agreed, "True. It might have been that you were eating a rabbit in front of him."

Character: Gaia Lightfinger
PFS#: 110249-13
Faction (if applicable): The Exchange
CORE or CLASSIC: Core

I played Meran in your Living Gods series.

Character Concept:
Gaia is an eleven rogue. She'll do her best to get into flanking with other players, to get her sneak attack bonuses. She has some skills in disable device, and other sneaky things like stealth and sleight of hand.

Roleplay/writing sample:
After the Vashnarstill Bash

”He did WHAT?” Davina yells so loud people are afraid she could be heard in the Coffee House if it were open at this time of night.

She paces back and forth. ”That, that.” she sputters. She doesn’t want to use those words in front of their followers. ”Just because he can. That’s a stupid reason to show up at a party and act like a big brat. Hopefully his marking the youth of the nobility will start to upset the parents.”

She agrees to a drink, and sits with Leora.

”To Cayden Cailean who saved both our friends today I’m sure.” she raises the drink. She looks upset and glances at the group with a look of worry.

I don’t know if I can do this. Jess’ doghousing was a close one, and Leora almost got caught by an Inquisitor. We could all lose everything if we continue this. She gets more morose and continues to drink.

Aeldervenk Manor (The Greens; 29 Pharast)

Davina seems to have shaken off her worry and hangover from the Day/Night of Wrath festivities. She enjoys the literary salon very much. Taking the chance to be an academic for the first time in what feels like forever.

”Thank you so much for inviting me. Lady Aeldervenk. It’s nice to have a chance to do something normal for a change. Ever since the Lord Mayor arrived things haven’t been quite the same have they.”

She looks nervous when Lady Eldonna asks that she and Dom accompany her to her estate. When she hears the subject is Jess she slumps slightly, ”I’m worried about her. She’s a friend of my daughter you know. They are close to the same age. Thankfully Kelyan is away at school, and not in the middle of this mess. I’d be up every night with worry if she was here in Kintargo. I worry about everyone who is part of our little group. Dom and our other friends are more capable of handling themselves.”

She decides to be frank with Lady Eldonna, ”Jess is capable, but impulsive. She’s given me grey hairs from her antics. I’m sure she’s done the same to you. I do not want to see that good heart and bright light snuffed out by Thrune for her just being herself. I feel responsible for her. Hells I feel responsible for them all.” She gives Dom a quick glance.

She nods in agreement with Dom about setting boundaries on Jess, ”As much as I’d like you to send her away to keep her safe, the Ravens will need her at some point. There’s something about the Opera House and a song. She’s researching it. She also has entree into the higher ranks of society in Kintargo. We will need those contacts in the future. A bunch of people just running around causing trouble for the Chelish Citizens Group isn’t going to get our beloved city free. She has the heart as Dom said to try and make that happen without us. I don’t want her left to her devices like that. We haven’t been keeping an eye on her as we should have, and for that I apologize.”

I've already played "Before the Dawn I & II", and possibly (though I'm not positive) "Bloodcove Blockade", too - given that this character is already at 4 XP, will that be too much of a problem, in the long term?

Character: Sirius Sa'luk, AKA "The Lucky Dog", "that thieving bastard", "HOW MANY TIMES MUST I KILL YOU?!?", and worse
PFS#: 40025-27
Faction (if applicable): The Exchange
CORE or CLASSIC: CLASSIC
Character Concept: thief, rapscallion, tramp, daredevil, thrill-seeker, no-goodnik - and proud of it!

"So, what brings you three here? To the Pathfinder Society, in general?" Sheela stops scratching Blarg. "A socialite like me tends to get into lots of trouble, but Grandmama was right: Through the Society I can do some good. The Kolphans tend to die as heroes."

It suddenly dawns on those present that there is a draft in the room, despite its solid construction. It is the closest thing to footsteps announcing the arrival of a handsome young man in light leather armor over well-made but drab clothes riddled with pockets, whose Keleshite features sorely mismatch the incredible pallor of his skin and hair. A mismatched pair of short blades hang by his sides.

"Now see, that's hardly an incentive to be a hero, is it?" He replies to Sheela with a smirk. "Stick with trouble, I say."

He gives her an exaggerated Keleshite-style bow, then raises his head to look up at her (how far up is a bit hard to tell for certain). "Allow me to introduce myself, sayida: I am Trouble."

He stands back up without any visible physical effort, and turns to the others. "You may also call me Sirius Sa'luk. Some call me 'The Lucky Dog.' Some call me other things, too, but they're not worth keeping track of."

"Nobody likes cleaning...well, except maybe Paladins. She doesn't expect you to be Paladins, does she? This house doesn't look that clean. Reach out to the gods and SMITE that dirt, I say!" He says, lowering his voice to a mock-heroic baritone and shaking his fist toward the heavens like a self-righteous holy man.

This is already a really strong crop to choose from.

I will wait until Wednesday evening to choose a group and start playing, but I can already tell this is gonna be a good time.

@Sirius I would be okay with you stepping out for those portions of it as long as you remained the proper level for the rest.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

Overall I was very impressed with the character submitted. My decision was made with the following criteria:
- Interest in the characters themselves as submitted
- I wanted a mix of old hands and new
- Past Experience (a couple of the submissions are from players I have played with/run for before and been generally impressed with)
- Overall Gameload (I want to make sure you're not overloaded and liable to burn out on me)
- Party Composition (which I admittedly compromised on a fair bit)

Presented Alphabetically:

Antal Strongheart (Ranger/Scarab Sages)
Arisira (Bardcher/Exchange)
Mak'da (Druid/Exchange)
Shen Hawah (Wizard/Grand Lodge)
Vera Darkone (Cleric/Liberty's Edge)
Xanko Rhenee (Fighter/Exchange)

Character Magga
PFS# 143586-20
Faction (if applicable) Scarab Sages
CORE or CLASSIC Core
Character Concept Magga is all offense both in and out of combat. Her AC is always less than 10, and she is incredibly forward in her pursuit of an educated man to father her children.
Roleplay/writing sample You have to earn it. | What's a synonym?
Notes I've already played the Before the Dawn series, but could step out for those scenarios or use replays if necessary. And I have a level 6 cleric if preferred, which could be played on slow progression to start.

Scarab Sages

We were planning to do Champions Chalice/Signs in Senghor first which are all 1-5 and this party lost its two front liners (though the Animal Companion has done an excellent job filling in)

Party is currently:

Bard (archer build)
Wizard (conjurer)
Druid with Constrictor
Cleric of Cayden

Liberty's Edge

Hi guys, I have a paper guy I can bring in. It's been years since CORE died at our lodge so there will be some dust and rust to knock off.

Valin is currently a level 4 fighter. He is sword and board with the biggest sword and the biggest board, bastard & tower. A proponent of law and order, he was considering swearing to a holy order before his sabbatical.

Edit: I've noticed some differences between my paper sheet and his online information. I will be adjusting the online to match the paper, as that would have been what I was using to play him.

Sovereign Court

If you have any openings, I can dig out one of my level ones to join in the fun.

Scarab Sages

Valin and Magga are probably the best two fits provided that Magga is okay replaying the Before the Dawn adventures.

We have a bit of a revised schedule based on consultation with the rest of the party however

We're gonna go with this series now:

Before the Dawn 1
Before the Dawn 2
Bloodcove Blockade
Ghol Gan Heresy
Beyond Azlant Ridge

So if the two of you find that acceptable go say hi in the discussion topic while I go prep a different adventure than I planned to =D
