If Maria were smarter, she would recommend backing up across the bridge, which is too narrow for this thing. But she's more of a smasher than a strategist... Which may be the death of her!

I don't know if you can completely get around this thing but you can probably get ready to set up a flank next round.

Yeah I'm not seeing any way to get behind that thing. It's so dang tight with the stairs blocking the back row. I'm just not seeing a "clean" 5' square at all. And that's even if it moves.

We've done a lot of encounters today and this fight looks like it's going to be gruelling at best. We might want to consider resting after this one if we can secure an area to do so.

Preparing largely the same spells as they've done well so far but since I don't need book ward again for a few more days I've prepared gust of wind... I have a sneaking suspicion we're going to run across one of the nasty for or cloud spells.

I can craft that easy enough now. Since it's going to be healing everyone I'm going to charge less. 5,500gp. I don't need all of that up front but 500gp to get the ball rolling. It's going to take at least five days but there's no chance of it being a cursed item.
Lets see that would be DC20 since he's not a level 10 cleric. He's got an 18 in spellcraft and a bonus +4 because it's a wondrous item. Since it's something that is going to help the whole party I'll craft that for 5,500gp. Baseline it'd be 11 days, with his discovery 9 days. If I increase the DC to 25 I can potentially cut that down but still a minimum of 5 days but could be more.

Ok I'm caught up on adding loot to the unclaimed section. My, my, we have a lot of stuff to liquidate. I'm unsure about some of it for now as it presumably belongs to the Count so let's see how things go when we find him. For example, Maria doesn't have the 500 gp portrait of the Count himself strapped to her back right now...

He talks about using the Bond slave thrall to summon the Beast to fight the golem in the 3rd floor. Which means find a way to climb up the outside, or you struggle through the 3rd floor and hope you can reach the roof?
I'm now ruling that you have hooked your grapple to the edge of the roof and can climb up the side of the tower. You'll soon see why the other way is completely stupid!

Per the "L5" picture, are we all going to be standing on that platform? At least, I'm guessing it's a solid platform. The thing that supports the conductor.
You reach L4, the roof. L5 requires climbing a 30' iron ladder, but there isn't anyone attacking you currently. :)
I am joining the GM in my dislike for the writer. It's begining to seem like we have to summon the Beast but at a very high DC we're doing it 'blindly'... for a very specific task.

Ah, I thought I had read there was a choice between Kn Arcana and UMD. If the roll is UMD, then Lazar is way worse (and untrained, which limits DC to 10 or less).
Well funny thing about that... to turn it on was said Knowledge Arcana (with a lower DC) or UMD... using it is UMD.
...Gadren has nothing in UMD so...
@GM DBH since Lazar just pointed out we can't get higher than a DC10 untrained despite what we roll. Funny thing no one in the party has a rank in it, the adventure as written has made this option impossible. We can still do the adventure but it's been made clear fighting this thing will be tough as hell.
No chance the haemonculus can lead us to the Beast so we can ask him to help us? Or it has UMD and just starts manipulating controls?
I guess we can just go and talk to the Beast. We helped it, it should be in good terms with us, and it's its father who's in danger.
Should be an easier task than a DC25 UMD roll :P
Maria has a rank in UMD because it's a class skill, she has a good charisma, and paladins get plenty of skill ranks and they aren't that MAD as a class.
Har har. Only one of those things is kind of true. +4 cha. If we allow untrained UMD, we could roll with the benefit from the note and guidance and hope that I get a nat 19 or 20 before a nat 1? GM?
Yeah, that works for me. If fact we can just say that Maria takes 20, and with the help of the notes has enough to pass the check.
