Spectrum |

True. I did the math and realized that by dropping Spectrum's dex to 16, I could raise his Charisma to 14.
I figured that was a better option because Charisma boosting items compete with Intelligence boosting items for slot space.
Even with the charisma boost, my leadership score isn't high enough to have Followers yet, so let's not worry about the Pathfinder thing just yet.

Marshal, Wyam |

Speaking of crafting your own items, I know it's highly irregular for a Paladin to do so but I'm considering picking up Craft Wonderous Items this level.

Isme |

That is rather irregular. What would you craft with it? There are other probably better combat-related or paladin-related feats for you, and Craft Wondrous Items could be something Chaise can take up, or even one of Spectrum's various followers/contacts. The gold you can save isn't worth a feat in my opinion, but that's up to you!
Also, this is something I've been musing, but what do you guys think about Isme picking up Leadership? I'm not leaning towards it, but it would be really good for keeping Chaise around as a cohort. Yet she's not really a leader and the followers are a big question because what would they be even following Isme for???
I guess it may be her witchcraft or link to Bartimaeus, perhaps for taking care of Chaise or Thassilonian research or crafting? I'm only really thinking about it because I want to have Chaise level up along with us (though it may take a while for him to actually get to the maximum Cohort level allowed since he's starting at level 2 and they gain experience on their own).

Spectrum |

I think it is a great idea.
Something I've seen before with parties where multiple people take leadership is that the group could end up being the heads of an organization. Their followers would be pooled.
If we did that, it could explain why a bunch of people are working for a bird.
As for Wyam, I like Isme's plan of having Chaise as a Cohort and letting him be our crafter. Either one of you could take leadership and pick Chaise. If he's going to be back at basecamp holding down the fort and making gear then it doesn't really matter who's cohort he actually is.

Marshal, Wyam |

Hmm, fair enough. I'd forgotten just how demanding magic item crafting actually is, especially if you're not focused on making sure you're Spellcraft skill is really good.

Isme |

Sold it a while back, along with most of the other loot we had.

Marshal, Wyam |

That's hilarious! So it's not actually Spectrum that knows how to behave in polite society, it's really Glimmer.
Hey Arkwright, so I have an unusual request for my character build. So Wyam has a lot of Feats that revolve around his mount, and Clearly there are going to be times when it's going to be impractical or impossible for him to get Fearghus into an area. Such as a tower fight. I would rather not be locked down with just feats for a mount. After the fight with Xanesha, he doesn't want to prove to be powerless against death.
I want to take the channeled revival feat which isn't normally not a viable feat until a character has access to 6d6 points of channel energy, such as an 11th level Cleric or 12th level paladin with another feat slot after. To do this, I would like to hold off on taking my 7th level feat and save it until 8th level.
With my current Paladin build, by 8th level, because I am a Sacred Servant, I will have the ability to raise my Channeling ability up to 6d6. Granted he'll only be able to pull this trick off once and only in pretty close to topped off at that level but it still seems like a worthwhile Breath of life effect is totally worth it.

GM Arkwright |

Hey; while I approve you taking a feat, I'm not sure it's a good idea. Breath of Life requires you to use it on a body no later than one round after they've died. You'd need to spend a standard to activate your Sacred Servant ability, and then a full-round action to use the breath of life effect. So, to properly use it, you'd need to guess that it would happen and pre-buff sacred servant, and make sure that at no point in the encounter would you start it further than 5ft from any potential dead PCs.
Maybe instead look into Ultimate Mercy?

Marshal, Wyam |

Sold. It's going to take Wyam a lot more Lay on hands uses but so be it.

Marshal, Wyam |

Yes, the wristbands of the merciful Healer are great for that. Also a phylactery of Positive energy Channeling would be good. Need to figure out how much wealth we're collecting here.
Hmm, that's interesting. I'd sort of glossed over the whole Leadership feat discussion. I've only really been in one game where my guy had it but it never really came into play and the game stopped a few months after.
I do like the idea of forming our own organization where a few of us are the leaders. I might pick up leadership eventually, but I don't really feel I can justify why Wyam would have it at the moment. The people we've run into or saved feel very incidental right now, so maybe we're starting to build up a reputation but it feels just a little too early for that.

Marshal, Wyam |

Same here, I've been thinking about how Wyam would best respond to his dinner associate.

Isme |

Ding!
HP: 6 = 5 [d8 average] + 1 [favored class]
BAB +1
Feat: Extra Hex (Soothsayer)
Bard
Bardic Performance +2/day
Inspire Competence +3
3nd Level Spells +1
Spells gained: Charm Person (1st), Arcane Concordance (3rd), Charm Monster (3rd)
Witch
4th Level Spells +1
Spells gained: Black Tentacles (4th), Enervation (4th)
Skill Ranks: 11 = 6 (base) + 4 (base int modifier) + 1 (bonus background)
Appraise
Disable Device
Heal
Linguistics (Orc)
Perception
Perform (sing) [background skill]
Spellcraft x4
Use Magic Device
Applying my Headband's skill ranks to Diplomacy.
Also I just realized why Isme seemed to have so few languages even with her high int and linguistics score. It was because she started as a raven familiar so she only had Varisian and got Common later on, then added new languages via linguistics. So no bonus languages.
Also, doing the Blood Transcription spells now. It specifies one dead spellcaster within 24 hours and I have to rest to regain/change my spells, so I can probably do one day full of casting Blood Transcriptions, which is 4 times, and have 11 pints of lamia queen blood left over for whatever purposes... selling maybe? Or decorative art. What spells are available from Xanesha that I can copy?
I'm reaaaally tempted to take Leadership instead of the extra hex but I can't justify it.

Marshal, Wyam |

And big old post made. Hope there wasn't anything we were planning on hiding here. Though there are a few spots Wyam pauses so it's not inconceivable.

GM Arkwright |

So; I see two remaining things to be sorted out in book two, done by working out here what we want and me writing it up retrospectively.
Firstly, Spectrum, are you still becoming a Pathfinder asset and acquiring the Leadership feat? Do I write up something about you coming to an arrangement with Canayven?
Secondly, Wyam, to avoid clogging up gameplay for weeks I suggest we discuss here what you want out of your budding relationship with Alcheska and write it out also retrospectively. Does your character fancy a contact in Magnimar, a friend, a potential partner, etc.

GM Arkwright |

And we've our replacement. Do welcome Reynard Freeman.
Reynard, I'll have a look through the third book and find a good spot to introduce you. Note that I'd like you to have not arrived in Sandpoint before/during the events of the first book and have been quietly hanging around since, instead you showed up shortly after the PCs left the town as part of the second book.

Spectrum |

Welcome, Richard.
Spectrum, are you still becoming a Pathfinder asset and acquiring the Leadership feat? Do I write up something about you coming to an arrangement with Canayven?
Spectrum is taking Leadership, but he won't actually have the leadership score to acquire Followers for another level or two, so the Pathfinder angle isn't necessary to spend time on right now.

GM Arkwright |

Alrighty. After having read through the book, Reynard, it would probably be suit for while you've been in Sandpoint to have become close-ish friends with Shalelu Androsana, elven ranger and guardian of Sandpoint's woods. You'd've decided to go along with her when she heard about the party heading for Rannick, either because she asked or you volunteered. Could be because you were intrigued to meet these heroes of Sandpoint, up to you.
Does that work for you?

Marshal, Wyam |

For Wyam's part;
After reaching Sandpoint, Wyam planted himself a little more firmly and decided to help the town there as it was a trading hub where a lot of travel was found so he could more easily deal with nearby troubles. There he met a group of like-minded individuals and began helping them to succeed. Together they were able to overcome larger trials than when it had just been Wyam on his own. Such as the Goblin raids, and the Thistletop mystery. Although it felt like his days with the Church, he wasn't being told how he could help. Large and small issues, he helped how he wanted and when.
When he saw and uncovered the mystery behind the Foxglove estate, it reminded him of his Uncle and what the wasted potential and idleness of nobility could become. The events steeled Wyam's resolve to help the people being targeted and get to the heart of the issue affecting everyone.
Then in Magnimar, Wyam saw to the truth of the situation with Xanesha and her organization before they were able to cleanse it away. From that he learned how organization could affect areas on a much larger scale, even though, in truth they hadn't been all that many members. This showed Wyam that the more closely tied a groups goals were, the easier it would be to spread that particular kind of influence.
After meeting Alcheska and learning her thoughts on how she wants to help the people of the land, Wyam is very determined to make her an ally in his cause. Spectrum's idea of starting a group was the spark that triggered the idea and now he intends to run with it. This is the beginning of a fundamental change for his character. At first, Wyam was interested in forming and allying with a small group of like-minded individuals (in effect, the order of the Dragon Cavalier code). But now , he is interested in serving the people. (If it's okay with you, I'd like to have him change orders to the Order of the Shield Cavalier code.)
Wyam also finds Alcheska very attractive. He is not one of the Paladins who took the Chastity vows or anything, so his attractions work for him. Much in a much different way from say Sherliss was back in Sandpoint. Although if Noro hadn't been there at the time, then who knows what might have occurred. So a potential partner is certainly a potential goal of his.
This certainly doesn't have to be a fast paced thing and could take place over several meetings. Wyam would like to meet Duchess Alcheska and speak with her about her views on the city, the wonders, and the people. He would indeed seek to alter her views more toward aiding the folk, and talk more about what he has done in the past and intends to do in the future. (Mostly this will include the History of Events listed above as starters.)
Wyam will not use his possible inheritance as head of the Marshal family for any sort of leverage, preferring to lead by his own hands. Though he is not conceited enough to denounce that he is of minor noble blood. He will take to the enlightened self interest approach. Her helping him, will help her both spirit and will win the favor of the people. If she insists on using a representative of a church to speak with people, instead of doing so herself, he will volunteer.
In a lot of ways, he realizes that his beliefs, tied with his own way of thinking is definitely a cheap shot to win her over, but he won't deny it if she calls him out on it. In fact, he might even use the question "Is it working?"

GM Arkwright |

Hrm; probably one more retrospective matter to be resolved.
Isme; would you like to write a bit about how things with Chaise go? What role he'll take from now on, that sort of thing?
Spectrum, anything you'd like to similarly sort out in the city, or...?
Also, fellas, might interest you to know that after all these years I'm switching over to the Anniversary Edition of Runelords which I believe uses proper stats for enemies? Something like that.

Marshal, Wyam |

Oh, why thank you. Yes, I went back to the beginning not long after I initially joined the game and read through everything. Mostly I did it to get a feel for how Wyam was played and to know what events everyone was talking about. Also that treasure write up I did.
I have occasionally referenced a few events from before and I do tend to skim back over it every now and again to remind myself of certain pieces of the story.
The anniversary edition eh? Can't imagine it'll change too much from our perspective. Unless the enemies start being absurd. Or maybe they'll be a tad easier with the bosses. Hard to say.

Spectrum |

Spectrum, anything you'd like to similarly sort out in the city, or...?
Not that I can think of beyond some bookkeeping. I still have some scrolls I haven't had the time to transfer into my spell book, and I need to do some alchemical crafting to supply us all with consumables now that I have some cash again.

That might actually make things easier. :)

I might oughta do that, for the same reason.

Isme |

Sorry for the delay! Haven't been feeling well plus work piling up on me. Hello, Reynard! Welcome to the group.
DM:
As for Chaise, I'd like for him to stay in Magnimar and do his own thing. Probably manage the estate the group inherited. I'm sure there's tons of books there to keep him occupied and he can continue researching Thassilon from where he is, or follow up on the Brotherhood of the Seven, or just generally keep accruing information. He's currently significantly weaker than the party right now and I'm going to go with the idea that he relapsed his childhood sickness, forcing him to stay in one place. It's not as serious as before, but he can't exert himself for long periods of time without taking penalties. He can come along with us when needed, but for the most part I think he's a good candidate for managing Magnimar in the party's absence.
Still waiting on what spells from Xanesha I can copy with Blood Transcription. I also don't have enough money to pay for the reprogramming costs on the golem. Also, it has a mind of its own? What does it think about all this? Is it a simple mind, an animal one, or bloodthirsty? Might be easier to just sell it, but could also just hand it over to Chaise to tinker with.
