Bryn leans towards the helmet-cat and whispers; "And here I thought I was the voyeur. The outsider, standing and watching - analysing what was going on." 'I suppose, it's just Finwa. She just makes a man want to be involved both looking beautiful and her enthusiasm.'
Then Bryn realises from the low-growl that he is too close to Mittens' fish and backs away. Seeing that Charlene has finished her ablutions and is being treated by Leoian, Bryn nips inside the Tree-house and retrieves his coat. It has the warm perfume of Finwa, a light musk that softly clings to the material.
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leoian goes about checking Charlene's wound "I apologize if you feel you were eavesdropped upon I had no idea that you were trying to make that conversation private. In the future if you want to have a private conversation, I'd suggest putting a little distance between the rest of the group, or at least lowering your voice." Was she trying to purposefully antagonize people? Leo remembers what Mittens told him about trying to create enmity with the others, maybe Charlene had a similar idea.
He re-bandages her leg "You seem to be healing well, and we're not quite as strapped for resources now, Mittens and I managed to find quite a few useful plants last night." He offers Charlene some plant pods "If the pain gets bad, break one of these open and rub the liquid on your leg it'll help to numb the pain. It's not as effective as what Mittens has in the emergency tools, but a lot easier to replace. Umm... don't eat it though, that wouldn't be good."
Having finished checking Charlene's leg he gets dressed, then goes over to collect Finwa's clothes next to the fire, and enters the tree. "Finwa I have your clothes if you'd like to..." He notices she's working on making something, and lowers his voice "Oops... sorry, I don't want to break your concentration. Here" He carefully sets her clothes next to her "Toasty warm from the fire when you're ready for them. Don't do too much ok? I don't want you to be tired out before we even leave camp." He turns to head back outside, and let her do her thing.
Charlene F. Oftenseen
Charlene accepts the pods from the helpful halfling with a nod of thanks and stows them in a pocket, then moves around the campsite gathering up dirty plates and cups. She repeats her washing and drying performance of the previous night so that the precious creations of the talented little woman are not wasted and are ready to be packed when Finwa completes her work. Then she takes up her spear and sits quietly out of the way, enjoying the beauty of the place, unless she is needed to help with something.
Finwa
The others were working on getting ready and she noticed Bryn come get his coat from the side and smiled a bit as he took it. Back to work she went and Leo came in. This time she looked up as he spoke to her and gave him a little half smile, her ears turning to reflect her appreciation for his interest in her welfare.
"Don't worry. I will behave for once. I have only one more of these to make. We don't have much to carry. I will be out soon. The smile was genuine but she went back to her work with a sigh as he left, wondering how Charlene did with anything if she did not care to have any emotional connections.
The little woman knew her feelings and knew she wanted a connection with both Bryn and Leo as well as a friendship with Charlene but how? The men already got along with her quite well and Mittens was ... she was Mittens. Finwa was not completely sure of the cat. She liked her but also felt wary as she had no idea why she had done things. But Charlene seemed to be into herself. How to deal with that?
She finished the packs and got dressed then went out with two in each hand. Two were bigger than the other two as they were for the humans. They all had lids that clicked shut with a wooden snap and were softened with the leaves for the back and shoulders.
Brynjård Silenøz
"I would be too, she's very cute, our Finwa. Especially in her underwear." Bryn says with a manly wink as they walk to the water-front. Packing up the rest of the camp to help Charlene, whilst excavating the remains of the food they'd cooked. It takes just the few minutes whilst Finwa finishes there packs.
Bryn doesn't deign to clutter Mittens hover-board with any of their accumulated items, bar a few pieces of fish (in tribute). In the belief that their leader and saviour should not be burdened with ephemera.
Then as a group they start filling the packs with items. Bryn makes sure to take more than his fair share as the one with the longest legs. However looking to the more petite pair; he can see their strength held within subtle and sensuous forms. Hoisting the pack upon his back he sets out up-river; making the pace with Leoian the woodsman. This allows the ladies to bond a couple of paces behind.
The rangy Norseman leans over to Leoian;
"Such a free and pure spirit. So giving and loving?" with a warm tone "To tie her down with affection, that is not my belief or intent." he leaves the words hanging. Unsure of how to continue.
He looks back to the rest of the group with a smile and a wink as they move near the river bank.
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leoian blinks and shrugs a bit at Bryn's comment of Finwa being cute, it wasn't quite what he had meant, but must admit the man had a good point. He was expecting Bryn to continue, and when he doesn't he helps pack their things. "Does anyone have a waterskin? It would be good to take some with us in case we're ever unable to get to the river."
When Finwa comes out with the packs he grins towards her, and accepts a backpack "Wow, these packs are amazing, they close nicely, even if I took a tumble down a hill I think everything would stay inside, and it's nice and comfy, I could easily wear it all day. Y'know if the bed and breakfast thing doesn't work out you can make things like this people will love them."
He intended to fill his pack with more than the others, thinking he would have the easiest time being more familiar with the terrain, but finds that it looks like someone beat him to it. It didn't really matter as long as noone was overburdened and they had everything.
Once everyone's packed and ready to go he leads off into the woods towards the river. "Everyone stay in sight of the group, you'd be very surprised how easy it is to get lost out here. And if anyone needs to rest, just say so and we'll stop for a bit."
He looks up at Bryn as the man leans over coming closer to his level
He looks quizzically at Bryn when he leaves his words hanging obviously not understanding what he's trying to get at. He then furrows his brow when the man doesn't continue "So what is intent Mr. Bryn?"
Finwa
Leo's words of encouragement makes Finwa blush a bit and she looks up at him tenderly. Praise. She'd been getting a fair amount of praise since coming to the Deathmatch. It wasn't just words either.
Then they are off and she listens to what Leo says and nods as they get going.
Finwa notices as the men walk together, leaving her to be with Charlene and wonders as they seem to be whispering or talking real low. Her ears twitch but she cannot hear them and she mentally slaps herself for even thinking of doing so.
She walks along quietly, picking her way carefully and watching out for any type of danger. Finally she sighs, "So ... what would you like to talk about?" She asks clearly not knowing what to talk about with the other two.
Charlene F. Oftenseen
Charlene glances at the small cat-woman, then her eyes return to searching the surrounding brush for movement. "Your pardon, Ms. Finwa, but I think we should avoid speaking and listen for threats as long as we are in these woods. Our ears are more important than our eyes in this dense underbrush," she murmurs quietly, "Though Ms. Meowselsworth may be able to see better from her perch on the hoverboard than we can from down here."
Meowselsworth
"I'd like to talk about me, but I guess nobody else would like to go on at great length about that subject? No? No. I didn't think so," says Mittens, a sigh in her projected voice. "There sure are a lot of trees out here. Trees and... rocks... and dirt... I guess I don't really have much to say about this place. And talking about you guys? I don't know, why did you commit genocide? You seemed pretty proud of yourself in the interview. The more stupid people who are around, the more you can lord your intelligence over them. That's a huge benefit!"
"And Charlene, why did you approve of such a deadly lightshow? Let me guess... The potential benefits outweighed the potential costs?" says Mittens, keeping a cheery tone in her voice. "I'd talk about my crimes, but I haven't done any. I guess in this time period, whenever it is, none of us have. Though come to think of it, you're right. This conversation is probably not as good as listening to silence." Her ears perk up as she listens.
Charlene F. Oftenseen
"Hmm... now that you mention it, you're an excellent topic of conversation, Ms. Meowselsworth. What is this about your airship? Do you expect to find it? If so, are we going in the right direction?" She frowns slightly. "The fact that you seem to think we can find it means you may have an idea of where we are and what happened."
Finwa
Finwa sighs and shakes her head, sure that there would be nothing to do about trying to have much to do with Charlene while traveling but then Mittens speaks up and it makes her a bit happier.
"Sure. Talking about you would be a good thing ... I..."
Finwa looks down at her tail as Mittens mentions the genocide and gulps thinking back to that situation. She bit her lower lip until it bled, not even realizing that she was now holding her damaged tail in her hands as they walked, "No sense in explaining." She whispered quietly, "No one would believe me anyway. They said no one would and they're right."
As Charlene questions Mittens, Finwa continues to walk on, holding her tail and brushing it down, listening to them and their surroundings as she continued on.
Meowselsworth
"I'm not exactly the kind of person who keeps good track of her hot air balloons..." says Mittens, "But yes, I expect that it's around somewhere, since it dumped me after or during my arrival, and it was a pretty long drop. Lucky I didn't die! Except the fans in my helmet lightened the fall. So not really lucky. More like more brilliance and foresight."
She peers towards Finwa with a questioning expression, peeking her nose over the edge of the hoverboard, but it's only another moment before it's gone and she flops over onto her side. "Or maybe I fell out before I succeeded? That would have just been embarrassing. No, impossible, I don't make mistakes."
Finwa
The little woman looks up at the two and licks her lip to remove the blood, "I didn't do it. I was forced to make that interview and when I refused ... She held the end of the tail up, "They got their hellhound to attack me. It took the end of my tail and part of my calf. They didn't want the truth. They wanted a sheep and I was the only one alive to blame."
She shrugged as if it didn't matter anymore and it really didn't. There was no way she could refute anything and it was better this way anyway.
Brynjård Silenøz
Though he listens and continues to speak to Leoian; Bryn is a trained observer and subtly listens to the womens words - his heart going out to the small lady. 'Not just a manager but an interviewer too! Charlene is multi-talented.'
He then leans into the clever woodsman;
At the smirk Bryn smiles back; "I am not your rival, but I am a sexy beast!" he laughs kindly at the last. "Although we would have to talk to her more. Finwa seems a free spirit, not one to be constrained by social mores."
"Although she may love a pair of handome men, like ourselves, to fight over her. I am sure she would prefer we put the effort into pleasing her and making her feel as special as she is." His words drift off wistfully.
"We don't need to fight over her." his tone is confident, as he brushes a stray lock out of his face.
"Well if you need any pointers. I am available." he winks to his friend?
He puts an arm kindly around Leoians shoulder, if he lets him.
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leo can't help but hear the ladies as they talk though he tries not to, this time, although they weren't whispering or anything, it would clearly be eavesdropping. He does make a mental note to ask Finwa what genocide is later.
He continues along keen senses keeping him aware of what's happening in the woods around them while he listens to Bryn.
He looks up at Bryn "You may have a lot more experience in these matter than I, but even I can tell you are my rival. You had all of Finwa's attention for me to be noticed I had to take some away from you. I did manage to do so, and she started getting closer to me." He shakes his head "Finwa isn't a spirit, free or otherwise, she is a living being like you and I... and I'm afraid I don't know what a social more is, but if it's constraining her I shall try to remove it."
When Bryn talks about fighting Leo looks surprised for a moment "Well of course I do not wish to fight you, you're my friend. Then he realizes Bryn probably didn't mean it as a literal fight "Or do you mean fight as in compete for her attention? That I won't stop, she spends almost every free moment with you, if I do not actively try to take some of her attention away I won't get any. I don't have your sexy beast powers, and no experience in these matters so it's not as easy for me."
He looks curiously at Bryn when he offers pointers "Can you teach someone to be a sexy beast? Hmmm... I had just assumed it was an innate ability."
Leo probably wouldn't stop Bryn from putting his arm around his shoulders, but you need to keep in mind Leo is at best half his height. I'm not sure it's physically feasible while they're walking.
Finwa
"My brother?" She says the word as if confused, her ears drooping as her little nose wiggling like a bunny's when trying to sort things out, "This may sound strange but I do not know now. I had thought him dead as he was shot and killed but... now I am unsure of his fate. You see he studied some maniac called Hitter? No that was not quite it. The man had some freaky idea for a race of perfect humans. Krishwa liked that idea and used genetics on fetuses, growing them to adulthood quickly then sent some out to work for him. They are as tall as humans with shorter ears than our race and short tails. He set up for his mind to be transferred to one of these. That is what he said anyway. I did not believe that could be done. Once you are dead you are dead. Or so I thought before we got here. I am sorry, Mittens but that is why I was so upset at the Deathmatch."
Finwa looks sad and confused.
Brynjård Silenøz
Bryn puts his hand at waist level and around the other man's shoulders.
He says honestly; "You can see when she looks at you how much she cares for you."
There's a wicked glint to Bryn's eye; "If you want to learn how to be a Sexy Beast, well..." He softly hugs the halfings shoulder.
"Now go over there and give her a hug, Finwa looks so sad." he says kindly. "I'll do the trail-breaking."
Bryn looks back to the group with a little wink.
Meowselsworth
"No, you were right to be upset at the Deathmatch, it was absolutely compelling television. That being said, no, dead is not dead, that's a notion that Helmet Cats find rather primitive. Consciousness can be transferred contiguously, of that we have little doubt. For example, upon my mother's death, I received all the information about her life, and I can relive it from my perspective, and her 'ghost' is also floating about in helmetspace. Or it was. Or will be. Or never will be or was. It's kind of complicated," says Mittens, "There are rumours that some can channel those ghosts, allowing them access to their bodies, but if you ask me, those rumours are a crock of lollipops. To contain two ghosts in one bodies, that would require an enormous amount of energy, you'd boil your brain in an instant! Anyways, even then, their consciousness would theoretically remain intact. Still, your brother sounds like an idiot. Just an observation."
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leo looks towards Bryn's hand when he puts it on his shoulder opposite the man, but doesn't seem to mind.
He sighs and shakes his head "I'm Sorry Mr. Bryn, I am not good at this, I've never tried to get someone's affection before I don't really know how I'm supposed to do things... If you say we're supposed to share then I guess you know best."
He looks up at Bryn seeming to consider learning about being a sexy beast, a slight confused look at the glint in Bryn's eye and the hug, then seems to decide "No... no it's ok I think it would feel better to get as much of her affection as I can myself... y'know my way. Your way isn't bad, I admit it's quite effective, but it isn't me."
He looks back towards Finwa, she really does look sad, so although still somewhat confused he slips away from Bryn, and goes over to give her a hug "Why do you look so sad Finwa? Are you having trouble bonding with Charlene? Or is Mittens being mean to you? Don't believe it when she talks about lollipops, she doesn't actually carry any." Possibly all he caught out of Mittens' little rant.
Finwa
Finwa chuckles a bit as Mittens says about her brother but beforehand had still been pretty sad even as the cat explained about her ghosts. Then she noticed Leo requesting a hug and takes the offering with a bear hug of her own. She had not heard or seen him move which indicated his expertise in the woods but she was also happy for the attention.
"We were talking about how I was put in jail for the crime my brother did.
Finwa
"And no, Ms. Oftenseen... may I call you Charlene? Anyway, we are ok and Mittens is right. No offense taken. My brother was, ah is maybe, an idiot." She put her head on Leo's shoulder for a moment then stood up straight not wanting to fall over anything while walking. Finwa then took Leo's hand, squeezed it to reassure him and held it while they walked.
Sorry I wanted to add to it :-)
Brynjård Silenøz
Bryn leads the group through the forest, dense underbrush to either side of the river. The water softly gambolling down over smooth stones, showing the temperate and unchanging environs. The walk was methodical, Bryn leading them up the easiest path whilst ensuring there was no shocks.
Looming to the left is a dark heavy forest and Bryn keeps the groups to the line of the brook. Then as they crest another ridge there's the soft smell of wood-smoke. A slow acrid tang at the back of his throat the full flavour of the nutty wood assails his nostrils as he looks to the others realising they have found civilisation... of some form at least.
Coming down from the ridge in the distance there is the tops of buildings poking up from the surrounding trees. The richly coloured slate shapes imply a small village.
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leoian smiles towards Finwa "Ok, as long as everything's ok here... I didn't know you had a brother."[b]He happily accepts Finwa's hand when she takes his and walks along with her.
After quite some time moving along the river he sees Bryn climb another ridge, then moves over to the man keeping hold of Finwa's hand unless she doesn't want come along. He peers out down the ridge and shakes his head [b]"Bryn, we've been walking for hours, I think we should break, and have some food before we push on."
He checks back over his shoulder at Charlene "Ms. Oftenseen is a very strong lady, but even for her walking along this far with an injured leg can't be easy." Bryn seems to have indicated something down the ridge and Leo peers out towards it "What is it? you found something? I... don't see anything... just more trees."
Brynjård Silenøz
"There!" Bryn crouches down and points towards the barely visible ridge-lines of the buildings. "Smoke and wood-smoke at that. There is some civilisation there; well it cannot be worse that that which we have come from."
There is a certain hunger that started to incessantly push against his attention as soon as Leoian mentioned it. "Shall we picnic here and then do a little scout of the village afterwards? Just to see if they are friendly." his tone holds a mild tension unsure of what the future holds.
Finwa
Finwa inwardly cheers as her ears stand straight up in excitement. She wiggles about like a cat readying to pounce on its prey and looks at Leo and Bryn, hardly realizing that the halfling had made sure he was between her and the singer, "Oh yes, I can smell the smoke too. I agree with everyone. Lunch then a bit of surveilance. Uh...Mittens? I don't suppose you have an invisibility shield or something so you can... actually the best would be for a two person team to go look while everyone else waits here. Leo and I are the smallest and quietest so maybe we should go after lunch.
Meowselsworth
"An invisibility shield, what do you think I am, someone who cares to be invisible ever?!" says Mittens, incredulously, "I'm not a cat who needs stealth, I want all eyes on me all the time! If Boots were here, he would be able to hook us up with that kind of tech, but he's not and won't be unless something goes terribly wrong and I wind up dead. Let's not wish too hard for cloaking technology. Why don't we just stomp in and ask them if they're friendly? Helmetcats have been pretty good about making ancient cultures worship them, so I don't figure I'll have a problem."
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leoian furrows his brow and sniffs the air "Smoke?" 'I'm not detecting any smoke...' He sniffs again 'Trees, underbrush, water... a squirrel hiding from us in the trees. Olfactory perception seems to be functioning adequately, is their's just better than mine?'
He's distracted, and almost misses it when Finwa suggests that the two of them would be best. "Oh... ummm yes, you're right we are probably best for scouting." If positioning himself between Finwa and Bryn was on purpose, his mind seems to be on other things now. He lets go of Finwa's hand and removes his pack opening it up to getting out the smoked fish and herbs he had packed. "First we eat." He tries to put thoughts of the smoke eluding him out of his mind, it must be nothing.
"Well Mittens... I don't think it hurts to be cautious, it is a good idea to get a look first before rushing in." He frowns "Why will Boots only come if you die? I want to see him, but don't want you to die."
Meowselsworth
"He'll only come if I die because he's lazier than I am arrogant. The reason I know he has an invisibility cloak is because he uses it so nobody bugs him when he's napping. And he's always napping. My death will trigger an alarm that wakes him up, and when he wakes up... well. He will find all my notes, will figure out four dimensional teleportation, will track my spatio-temporal signature, and will come here to bite me, whereupon he will find me dead. HA! I can imagine the expression on his face already, too bad I won't get to see it!" Mittens seems more gleeful than anyone sane should be. "You have more fish? Gimme!"
Finwa
Finwa helps Leo with the food and gives Mittens hers first knowing how cats react when they don't get their nummies right away. She gives Mittens a questioning look when she mentions Boots.
"Who is this Boots?" She asks genuinely concerned.
She gives food to Charlene and then Bryn and sits between Bryn and Leo, settling down nicely, "I left you a bit of room on the flat surface so you can lay your leg stretched out, Ms. Oftenseen."
Brynjård Silenøz
Bryn sits down and smiles to Finwa; "Be careful, I want you back in one piece." He pats her leg softly. Then he bites into the fish to cover the worry in his eyes.
"Charlene, that's a good idea. A night of luxury at a hotel, or Inn would be nice. Although it might require your skills, I have no money or marketable abilities." again there is a hint of deception to the last.
Finwa
With a smile at Bryn for his wish for her to come back in one piece, Finwa got into her food, eating it using the spork she had made. She nodded at Charlene as she finished her food and stood, stretching to get out any kinks.
"Does anyone have any suggestions or ideas that would help us with this and what to watch out for?" She asked as she waited for Leo to be ready as well.
Truthfully she was a bit nervous. Who knew what they would find there and how much trouble it could be? This was something she felt would make her feel a bit braver as she'd felt very wimpy with having cried so many times lately. She was no hardened criminal and it was easy to see that she was not used to the rough stuff besides her gymnastics but they all would probably have to change with this environment.
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leoian gave his fish to Mittens when she asked, or demanded, without seeming to even think about it. He tries to come up with a way to explain boots "Boots is... Boots, y'know kinda like Mittens, but Boots." He clearly does an excellent job.
He looks towards Bryn when the man talks about luxury hotels and inns "Don't get your hopes up too high Bryn, if there is a village it's better we see what it's like before starting to plan out the night there."
Leo gives Charlene a smile "Thanks for your concern Charlene. I think we'll be ok, when you're as small as I am, and have spent as long as I have alone in the woods you tend to develop a bit of a nose for trouble. I'll make sure we steer clear of anything I feel dangerous, at least natural threats... humanoid threats are harder to anticipate, but we'll be especially cautious if we come close enough to worry about that, but I don't intend to get close to anyone before I'm sure of them."
Having given his fish to Mittens, and not taking as much time to eat, Leo was actually ready quite quickly. He stood up with Finwa when she finished eating. "Are you set?" He peers out over the ridge where Bryn had indicated there was a village.
Meowselsworth
"Boots is my triplet brother, and is brilliant as nine hundred and eighty exploding suns. His back paws are white, like my front paws are white, and his front paws are black like my back paws are black. Hence the names." Mittens leans down to start eating her fish. So much fish, it's a wonderful little expedition indeed! "That's twenty less than me, for those who are counting. Like I said, he'll need my notes to get here. But yeah, I guess anyways... let's not think too much about Boots. Let's figure out if these people are cannibal headhunters who want to eat your brains, and if they are... well, let's film as much as possible."
Finwa
"Ah I see. So you have two siblings." Finwa stated and nodded and squeezed Bryn's shoulder before turning to go, "We better get going or we will lose the light and we won't be able to make a good camp if we have to stay out here."
Finwa waved at the others and started off with Leo, silently taking to the edge of the woods and waiting for Leo to lead them towards the village.
"So we stick together and what do we look for first? Roads and travelers or something else?" She says quietly to him, staying very close so they can talk easily. The two of them moved easily enough together through the woods and were very quiet.
Brynjård Silenøz
Bryn smiles wanly as the cute catgirl and the happy halfling turn to leave. However his eyes show that he is worried as he watches them merge into the woods in search of the village.
"1000 suns, that is quite the luminosity!" he puts his hand out in the offer of a stroke for Mittens; glad to do something other than worry about the pair.
"So the manager of Deathklok that must have been quite the job, with many stories to tell. How about yourself though, it must have been tough on the road all the time?" he says sympathetically.
Meowselsworth
"Yes indeed, a thousand suns is very luminous. But not as much as a thousand exploding suns! Several supernovas superimposed simply to swing the scintillation of one sweet helmet cat: Mittens von Meowselsworth, the one and the only, at your service!" That's likely a practiced introduction that Mittens has used before for one reality television show or another. At the hand coming towards her for a pet, Mittens squishes down to delay the pet as much as possible. Should Bryn pull his hand back, she will look annoyed, and if he should proceed, she will get into the petting.
Charlene F. Oftenseen
"We didn't so much go out on the road as the road came to us, Mr. Silenoz," the manager replies, "And one does not have a job when it comes to something like that. It's one's life, as I am certain you know. Particularly managing a band like Dethwatch with its obsessive fans. But then, it's the life I chose and it was important. I'm not certain how well they will do without me. Artists can be so very naive."
Brynjård Silenøz
Bryn smiles to himself at Charlene's comment, but turns to the helmet cat he is petting. The insistent feline pushing against him eases his nerves, soon he gets into a regular rhythm that he hardly realises he is stroking her. "They'll be fine musicians persevere, like cockroaches. At least now you can branch out, truly find yourself - not be just a cog in a machine. And we can always find them again." he pauses; "Or get Mittens to bring them here. She's amazing aren't you?"
Seemingly this forest has mellowed him; perhaps it's the lack of advertising and mega-corporations.
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leo starts off in the general direction of where Bryn indicated there was a village. He matches his pace with Finwa's moving almost completely silently though without a noticable effort to do so. "Sorry Finwa, I'm not so good at civilization, nature is so much easier to understand. I'd think we should probably seek a vantage point where we can see into the village, but won't be seen." He looks into the trees "One of the trees relatively close to it should work. Then we can observe the people, and perhaps learn a little about them."
Leo keeps searching the forest for any signs of the village as he walks along with Finwa. He starts to worry as even when they get closer he still can't find any trace, not even a wiff of smoke. None of the others seemed to have any trouble, not finding the village at least. He looks towards Finwa she could probably see the village clearly by now. 'She'll definitely think I'm the wrong partner for this if I can't even find the village.' "Finwa, do you see the village yet?"
Finwa
Something was wrong if they could not find even a glimpse of the settlement by now. There was something eerie in the air and it began worrying the woman as the two continued to get further from the others. She stopped when Leo spoke and bit down on her lower lip nervously, her ears swivelling this way and that searching for the proper signs that would bring them to the place they wanted to patrol.
"No." She said nervously, "Should we climb a tree to see what is around? I am sure it cannot be too much further but it is hard to tell for some reason. It does not seem quite, well, right."
Leoian Mousekewitz
Leoian nods when Finwa asks about climbing a tree and says something doesn't seem right. "Yes... I tried not to think anything of it when Bryn pointed out the village an I couldn't find any trace of it, and when everyone else could smell smoke and I couldn't. I thought maybe you just had better senses than I. But... we should have found some trace by now, I'm sure we've been walking in the direction Bryn indicated. Let's climb up and see what we can find... but keep below the canopy when I went above yesterday a flying beast the size of a bear tried to grab me."
He sets off to find a suitable tree, and apparently deciding one is acceptable he starts to clamber up into its branches.
Finwa
"Sounds good to me." Finwa says as Leo explains everything then does a double take, looking back at him as he clambers up the tree, "Something the size of a bear tried to grab you? I thought something just ... pushed. Not that that isn't bad enough but ..."
She bit her lip and followed the halfling while wondering what in the world was in these lands to do something like that. And Leo had not seen it but figured it's size? It must have been... no she didn't want to think of what it could have been. Her attention must be on what they were doing.
"We all seem to have been affected by whatever is around here. Maybe that's why you couldn't see the village or smelled the smoke. We could be still dazed from whatever brought us here." She was trying to be helpful and make him know she understood. Or at least tried to understand.
When they got up to a decent height she looked about, hand over brow as she held on with the other hand, feet and her tail. It felt strange doing this with her tail shortened but she tried to forget that too. After some time of looking she pointed.
"Over there. Do you see past that smoke? Or is that a fog? It isn't far but ... I don't smell wood smoke as much any more. It must be taken up by the wind. It isn't easy to see either but I think we can get to a tree real close and watch for a while. Best is probably not too far from the road so we can see what kinds of people come and go."
