A mystery set in a small village, a large problem, and a small band of adventurers are the only thing standing in the way of this town and an evil that has yet to rear it's head.
I have two ideas for the Knight character I want to play, either a Fighter, regular build, or Cavalier, either Gendarme, from UC, or regular if UC not allowed.
I won't be putting very much into the horse, as from even my RL Kingmaker campaign, my horse very rarely gets to pitch in on critical fights and usually ends up getting left behind, rendering my "Mounted-only" abilities useless.
I remember your monk rants raventhorn...lol...and I agree for some of it....so a spy it will be...I will have to stat him out now...it was a 20 point build, right!!
Will finish him on the morrow, I went with the Gendarme Cavalier Archetype from UC, if you are allowing it, otherwise I'll be at a quandary yet again between a fighter or cavalier, either will work. :) let me know what you think of him so far everybody?
Gaeron: Unfortunately I don't have any of the Ultimate books yet so I hesitate to let people play from them. As for that archtype I'm concerned when you say "I won't be putting very much into the horse" but the description from the pfsrd says "A gendarme trains to be a mounted terror, almost to the exclusion of all other abilities". If you don't plan on taking advantage of these skills, then why choose this archtype? And you are correct, there will be a lot of places that your horse will left behind. If you are OK with that then I'm fine with a Cavalier, but I still question the archtype.
Kynneth: A spy would be good for this game but I would caution you to not neglect all of the standard rogue abilities. You may end up missing that trapfinding skill at some point. You might think about a spyish rogue, rather than a rogueish spy.
Raventhorn: Looks good. Can you add a block on your profile for the bird's stats so I don't have to look them up seperately?
Can't wait to see the flavor for all of these characters.
I'll post the Recruitment thread tomorow morning to give you time to get profiles posted. Obviously you don't need to be finished by then, just ready to initially post. Then Raventhorn can have his game back. ;)
Looking at the list, we have a Ranger, Cavalier, Bard, and Rogue. That's a good start. I think that a Mage of some kind would complete the party. If anyone knows a player that would like to play a Mage and you would vouch for let me know. I'm comfortable opening the Recruitment thread stating that all the spaces are filled. If you want we could also make room for a cleric of some kind, but i don't think it's as important.

:) For the Gendarme, I was saying I didn't want to focus entirely on the horse, as I did with my RL Kingmaker Cavalier, who was Order of the Sword and his abilities all revolve around being mounted on the horse, also took the Human ability "Eye for Talent" at the cost of a free feat in exchange for making the horse's stats higher. I still plan on using the horse and I love fighting from horseback, I meant simply that I want to be as useful on foot as I am on horse.
Again, me taking the Archetype is entirely up to you, if you would prefer I could simply be a regular Cavalier or a Fighter.
As for the opening of recruitment, a wizard/sorcerer and a clerical type would be useful for this group. There are a couple players I have played with on here that are excellant players and create very fun characters who coexist well with everyone else, such as Hermia's husband. :)
I, again, merely hesitate on the including of certain players who are reputable for creating characters meant only to maximize on breaking stats or simply characters that refuse to coexist with others/insist on having the other players condescend to their own rules and playing by their "custom" rulings and characters.
I don't know about any of you, but all of the 3PP stuff I've seen on these boards are broken in seven different ways and the players who promote them try and maximize on this brokenness to make characters who make everyone else seem unneeded. Sorry, just me ranting.
Gaeron, I want you to make the character you want to play. But I want to stress there aren't going to be many 'fighting from horseback' opportunities, especially early in the game. I can see it happening later tho. I'm great with you playing a Cavalier if you accept that up front. As for the archetype, I'm saying No because I don't have the book and don't want to set the precedent of playing stuff from books I don't have.
As for other players, queue them up and see if they are interested. If so, let me know what their names are and I'll include them in the list when I post the Recruitment thread. I would love to start out with 5 or 6 player that are all high quality and avoid the kind of min/max that we all have seen before.

Sounds great :)! No problem adapting him to not be a Gendarme ^^ if there won't be many oppertunities to fight from Horseback, not that that's the driving force of the character, I may have to reconfigure him to a fighter to more match the character I have in mind ^^ I always say that the CHARACTER you play should always mean more than the CLASS you are playing. Just because I may be a Fighter doesn't mean I can't still play as a Knight, since I know for a fact a lot of people easily get tired of playing alongside the grumpy, thinks he's the ultimate badass and insults everybody he talks to, Warrior. :) again really looking forwards to this game.
I always say that the CHARACTER you play should always mean more than the CLASS you are playing.
I completely agree. He looks great!
I am starting to feel bad about brining this game to a grinding halt. So if someone can confirm one or two other players I will go ahead and open the 'recruitment' thread as an invite only game. Then we can move the conversation there.
I would suggest Kamelguru and DSX Machina :) Both are amazing players with great skills in roleplaying and character creation :) You can see them in GM Aria's Kingmaker Campaign
GM Aria's Kingmaker
Kamelguru is Stanislaw, and DSX machina is Ali Harper :)
Gosh, sleep for a few more hours and everything explodes.
Hubby is pretty busy the next few weeks assisting his father to set up a place for us for my visit. There will be a period of a few days around the end of the month/beginning of November where I'll be just checking in on my games, but not posting much while I get reacquainted with my husband after five months of seperation. Also, my posting pattern will change as I'll be at GMT +1 instead of GMT-8 but I forsee no real problems.
Also, I'm not sure that hubby will want to play another arcane caster. He's of the school that if you're going to make one, you can only make a wizard because they're the most powerful class in the game. And Hubby taught me how to play a cleric and a good character. If you want to see hubby's cleric read Ryuko's Adventure Across Ustalav.
Hermia, I'm not trying to railroad anyone into playing or even presuppose anyone's character. I don't want anyone to feel like they have to play a Mage. I just know that of all the classes you don't have that would be the most helpful, and there would be good reason for one to be there.
I understand people have real lives and that the game is supposed to be fun and release stress not add more. I would never begrudge anyone's ability to post.
As for more players, I leave it up to you all to decide if I just open for submissions of if you can get some other players to confirm that they want to play. If so then I'll post it as closed recruitment.
Six is a lot of players. I got five in my KM and six in my CC. It's hard for me to keep track of my CC group when they're all there. I like to give each of em a chance to respond before I move on, but sometimes people just... don't, for whatever reason. Having a smaller group eliminates that, most times, if they post frequently.
Post an OOC so we can work on our characters together rather than a recruitment.
I didn't realize that you could start without a recruitment thread. Cool. I get it up in the morning unless anyone wants to debate adding another player.
Since there is no need for recruitment then I'll start the OOC thread and the Gameplay thread can just start on the boat.
yes...sorry...been busy the last few days...being Thanksgiving here in canada...will try and get a character up tonight and post something online as well (even just a hold spot...I am really interested!!!)
Hehe...thanks...I have the crunch here....see what you think, and any/all suggestions are welcome...for some reason I just cannot seem to get a good idea about this fellow....

always amuses me how people assume that a larger area makes the Light spell brighter. It functions "as a torch" no matter how great an area it covers. Essentially, you just negated most of the effect.
I understand exactly how it works. Negating, Or more precisely controlling, the effect was the whole point. I wanted to make sure I could 'muffle' the light if needed, like a hooded lantern. I'm sure there are spots of light from seams and holes in the cloak, but it keeps me from being 'the big glowing thing'.

Sorry to invade your OOC, need to leave a message for someone.
Kynneth/Colyne:
In the Forgotten Fortress, it is not you. The DM is doing weird stuff, I should have quit weeks ago, but want to get to the end of this module for the rest of you. In almost 30 years, I have never hit a party member with burning hands, until this DM decided to just have me hit you without any warning. In a battle of this size, without a battle map, it is hopeless. You have done well and I am stuck using base attacks since I do not want to kill anyone else.
In addition, he does not even follow the rules. He has given all the monsters steroids and has this stupid swarm going on way past the end of its duration. Perhaps I will just post that I quit and call it a day as it is clear that the DM cares only about control, not enjoying the game.
Sorry to invade your OOC, need to leave a message for someone.

Nngara:
I understand your feelings...I too am just sick of this game. I cannot tell who is doing what, and without a map we cannot coordinate any attacks.. I kinda hope I just die and be done with it...he is only looking to kill us all anyway!! Have enjoyed playing with you and the others, but I cannot take much more of his heavy-handed gaming.
Sorry to coop this threat, but some problems in another game and we kinda needed a neutral place to talk....is there a way to send email directly to another player...or do you need their address??
I dont mind guys seems like weve taken a lil break from this game and I know what your going through i just wish I had someplace to chat with someone when I had been in your situation feel free though
Thanks Raventhorn....I really do not like to bail on a game, but this guy is really bad. If you read some of the posts you can see that.
And I hope we get back to your game soon...I am just waiting for Devin to check the door before Kynneth's curiosity makes him see whats on the other side!!!

Kynneth:
Yep - I am sure that I annoyed him by stopping my bleeding, he probably thought he would be able to take me out. I am sure the indestructible swarm we be back to take me out in a few rounds. Oh well, only a few more weeks of his goofy posting and we are done.
You will notice that when he asked if we were enjoying the campaign, I didn't respond at all, there have been several times when I have typed long messages, and then decided to delete them before hitting the Submit Post button.
Anyway, it has been fun playing with you all, just wish the DM had a clue. BTW - are you in the Carrion Crown campaigns that just started, I cannot remember if you were applying for them.

Don't think so, at least mine is not. Check my character Ad'ifaah and then look at her campaign, everyone has posted, so if you have not, then you are probably not in. Also, the DM started a second CC campaign, you will have to check through his name to find that one.
--> Actually, looking at your ailases, I do not see any familiar other than Colyne.
Things have finally slowed down in Taldor, so are we ready to get this game going again? If so I'll open the door and see what's there. Somehow I doubt it's a new car. ;)
Hello to all, Im a relatively new gm and still learning the small rules. I would like to try hosting a game through posting and see where it goes. i have a rough concept of a campaign but leaving it open s players can decide on how to proceed in the world im setting up. I will need mature serious players so I know that im not just being taken advantage of by people that make ridiculous characters just to exploits builds. Im looking for 4 players maybe 5 if I like enough. Again im still learning the tools to play online s maps might be a little bit.
Im going for a medieval feel where blood and savagery is abundant in the land and happy endings are a thing for bards tales. I do not have the UC book, I only have what hero lab gives me on its version. As such some things in the UC have yet to be implemented on it. I will take applications but the way I was raised in gaming never included gunpowder. So no sorry gunslingers you won't be allowed. Also I won't be allowing ninjas and samurai. These people live halfway around the world and would never make it so far inland to metaphorical "Europe".
Will take applications with very well thought out back-stories. Meaning if you take the heirloom weapon be prepared to explain it to me how when why you have it and know the penalties to taking it later on. Im looking for pretty much a game where players have fun reading about how people interact with the world and feel like your writing a novel and taking an active part in how the world will be shaped.
Other than that im very flexible and kind gm. I will probably dabble in a gm boon either in special equipment/free feat. Applicants who apply and are accepted will talk to me later on about this.
Ok how to apply.
- The small village of Grunshire is under siege. The mayor knowing the village needs help has sent out to mercenaries and hero's alike to come to Grunshire and defend their village with promises of rewards fit for a king.
-20 point system
-average starting gold
-Core races only
-2 traits (please be kind to me and don't exploit my good nature)
-Classes from Core, APG, UM, UC* with exceptions as stated above
-Backstory including how you arrived, small backstory, whats your drive to help these people, what you plan to gain from this adventure. And general explanation, the better thought out the character more likely you will win a spot in this generous and fun adventure.
-I will be running your character through herolab and if it checks out your ok if not I will ask you reconfigure
-small plan of advancement is appreciated but not needed as characters will roleplay their choices not by a computer
-Applications will be accepted up till Saturday because I wish to start soon (while its all fresh hehe) or if I think I need more applications I will postpone till the following Saturday as I have college starting
Ok so we know what isn't allowed class-wise, no problems on those so far. Are there any other restrictions, such as races or reasoning for taking an Exotic Weapon Proficiency? I've seen other dm's say that b4 or played under some that for example said "Must receive training in game to use an Exotic weapon or Prestige class".
Very interested in this, especially since I just started rereading George RR Martin's epic series. Will have a character up soon. I'm feeling a thief/scout
kk id appreciate Alias' just for ease of access but yeah both ideas seem fine also I will be looking into each class and thinking about it again just dont want overworked characters that seem to blow by the story and only focus on killing shit. Also i want roleplayers not WOW players lol
Nah I was first looking at 15 but was too restricted and 25 way to easy so 20 point buy and please nothing below 10 I dont like people who stat dump is so silly
I would be interested in playing, I'm still finishing up this character's story but have the numbers in place. I am a HEAVY role player who wants a lot of story and character interaction. So may I present Devin Cross.
Synopsis: Devin is a professional gambler, ex-hit man*, and 'urban' ranger. He has recently decided that the 'contracts' he was taking were no longer worth the risk and that his skills could be just a valuable to someone wanting to stay alive. So he has had to move in order to escape his previous life and find work as a mercenary or body guard.
* By hit man, i specifically don't mean assassin. He was never into poison and the appearance of 'natural causes'. He was the 'found in an alley with three crossbow bolts to the head' kind of hit man.
I will finish out the character equipment and background by this weekend.
May I present Falco Tosscobble, halfling battle oracle.
Falco Tosscobble was very much a normal halfling until his 28th birthday. In honor of his coming of age, Falco's father gifted him with a pair of aged kukris. The next day, Falco was playing in the woods with his new swords. Fate had loftier plans it seems. As if from no where, a bear charged young Falco. It was all the poor halfling could do to simply fall down, kukris held out in front of him.
A while later Falco awoke covered in blood. From that day he was among the most competent halfling warriors, but strange things happen around Falco now. Objects move without his touch, and discarded items settle far away from the haunted hobbit.
Blessed and cursed, Falco abdicated his place in halfling society and went wandering. He curses the gods for playing their tricks on him and he fights to gain enough strength to one day find and kill the god that ruined his quite, peacefull life.
I'll have to tweak him a bit but he's mostly done! I have not posted his stats yet. Please let me know what you think. Also, for info on my play style, roleplay ability, and post quantities, please review my aliases. Thank you for the consideration.
I have a character from a Hollows last hope game that did not get in, I'll submit it.
Human Fighter (Phalanx)
I do admit I'll need to re-tweak that character.
AZ I lost one to the great unknown if you want to save the hollow still!
@KenderKin
What happen to Auk, forget to play?
Questions: how would you intro my character or do I do it?
and You know I am also running the same module here. hope that does not cause trouble?
P.S. You can read how I livened Falcon's Hollow up a bit.
@GM Raventhorn
I compile a new randomly generated character,
(believe me, you can get some interesting characters from it, like the NPC Alkaid i made, My players are never going to forget her.)
I am pretty sure its not in herolab (although I could provide stats) Would you consider allowing the Alt summoner Drake tamer class from the book of drakes.
I have no idea what your talking about lol i dont mind you being a summoner and making a drake but yeah.. have to say no lol sorry man no way i could double check not that im saying youd cheat but yeah small resources I dont even have UC
Would you be willing to add any of these offical races?
Link
Note, I am only looking at Aasimar and Changeling as options, As I follow a self-imposed rule of "50% or more human DNA in my race selection."
And allowing the opening one to use would increase my random generation on race selection.
If you say no, I will accept it and flip a coin for Human or Half-elf.
Do you consider unarmed strikes as natural weapons for meeting a "natural weapon" requirement of a feat?
refer to (UC page 45 (weapon groups, natural)) , (APG page158 (Feat, Eldrict Claws)).
I am asking to see if an Unarmed fighter build, could be viable in the randomization list.
If you are still looking for players, I would be interested in playing. I was looking to play a monk (Zen Archer)...I also have herolab so I can work him up and send you the file if you want!
Considering I dont have the book UC I cant see it really also I ran it through hero lab it says unarmed attacks are classified as unarmed attacks they are not natural weapons ie bite or claws so eldritch claws was not available even though at level 6 you met requirements 15 str (i assumed you knew) and base attack bonus +6
So to answer your question no it will not fit for natural weapons or requirement for the feat
Personally I am not a huge fan of monk I dont see how a monk is traveling the world away from the monastery in search of foes when they became a monk to be detached from the world. so yeah there's a tip for yall yes I might be a little bias but I was raised on Warhammer fantasy and its roleplaying game and since its roleplay sucks compared to pathfinder im trying to combine the two in my own little world lol
Sorry im making this so difficult for you Azure
@ daniel sorry man you snuck in right before my post went up lol. Yes I am still accepting applicants up till Aug 17 2001 11 59 UTC -06:00 time (Central time zone in USA) Again not big fan of monks I would suggest maybe making new character or at least REALLY impressive backstory. But again as stated above i don't like monks also I have a friend who made a zen archer and no does an arrow(s)+36 dmg in one round yeah not fun for a dm to see monsters go pop after several hours of making the encounter and nows theres cluster shot (i hate) so even makes fav enemy werewolves irrelevant. So theres my two cents let me know what you decide. I really hope Im not scaring you guys off.
Hhmmm...Ok..lol...So you are looking for more down and dirty characters (I played Warhammer for many years, as well)...more true to the main 4 classes...how about a cleric who is interested in arcane magic, and is working to become a mystic theurge??
YES down and dirty! death in the medieval lands was common and not often peaceful disease, violence, war very common so when you make your character it isnt a fantasy its brutal adaptation of life back then haha
Actually that seems really interesting id be down with looking that char over the campaign I have in mind it would work (not guaranteeing you a spot or nothing) but yeah go ahead. Also keep in mind guys that ill be expecting your character to justify your choices in your roleplay. Also when I see I have a few serious applicants Ill have you guys roleplay the characters on their way to Grunshire or just arriving. Some people dont seem to like this style of application process but it allows me to see how you interact with the world and how often you post. Way I see it if your serious about playing you will poor a little effort in the app process lol
As you can see im a very active person on the posts so ill be on often to check this thread. and let you guys know whats up.
Ok...here is the first draft of a character...I will work up the history and such later if accepted. It is done in herolab so I can export the file if you want. I have also added a background now..which can easily be added to, or changed as needed.

BACKGROUND
--------------------
Kynnith was, what one might call, an average child. He was born to an elven mother and a human father. HIs mother was never a big part of his life, returning to her people for years at a time while he was growing up. His father, a well known stone mason, worked hard to give Kynnith a good life. He was taught in a good school, and when his magical talents began to show, his father had a local mage teach him control and spellcraft.
But from his earliest days, Kynnith felt a calling to the church. He attended as often as possible and confounded his tutor by constantly asking about the divine and how magic fit into the gods will. Finally in frustration, his tutor contacted the local canon and ask for the boy to be taught the mysteries of the church. Kynnith was extremely happy, and surprised both the canon and his mage tutor by being able to 'blend' the doctrine of the two into one. But time, as is wont, marches on, and soon Kynnith was a young man looking to exit the cloister of his magical and religious training and explore the world on his own terms.
HArn is a very realistic RPG where the players are as likely to die of infection to wounds as to the wounds themselves....based on 12th Century England. A great setting if you have never seen it before!

ALSO!!! everyone please I want backstory not just your character concept its fine for later on but major part of this recruitment process is im more concerned with background and what i have to work with and how it fits in with the world
ALSO!!! everyone please I want backstory not just your character concept its fine for later on but major part of this recruitment process is im more concerned with background and what i have to work with and how it fits in with the world
It might help if we had some more specifics on the world itself. I'm trying to keep my background as generic as possible because I don't know any of the details of geography, politics, or history. I would have a different background for "everyone just finished fighting a 100 year war" than I would for "there are only two cities and everything else is a barren waste". I'm not saying that we need to know that the third king of the dwarven realm of U'latn is lactose intolerant and likes wearing goat skins. But the more detail we can have on where we might be from or what we might have lived through, the more background we can give you.
Alright the Village of Grunshire, lies in the land of Tholan. Recently there has been string of puppet kings and would be conquerors over the capitol city throwing the land into chaos. This leaves remote villages like Grunshire without the resources to adequetly protect itself. The land itself is a dark gloomy place filled with old trees and even older horror stories. Fifty years ago a major battle took place not too far from Grunshire between an Orc overlord and the benevolent ruler, King Geoffrey III. The king was able to slay the Orc warlord but at the cost of his own life. His wife too weak too hold the throne by herself and gave way to a string upstarts who tried to take the throne away only to be killed by the next fool who wants the throne.
Your stake in this is your trying to make a living in this troubled land. For mercenaries the pay is good but the fighting harsh as multiple warlords break off from the once united realm and establish duchies for themselves. Ravaging the land and its people without scruple. There is little in the way of heroes anymore as most who supported the king fell to Orc swords and arrows. The land itself is troubled rumors of dark magic is whispered in the dead of night speaking of horrors happening in the woods and near grave-sites. Sightings of orc raiders have been sighted and as always when the land festers the people turn to banditry to feed themselves and their families.
ok thats all ill give you guys look forward to the revamped characters :)
Well I would place my character somewhere on the outskirts of the capital, a large settlement, but still a bit away from the troubles at the capital. What about the church and gods. As a follower of the church (and in 3 levels a cleric, I hope), who/what is the religious setting??
Just go ahead and use the pathfinder gods I dont want to mess with creating another pantheon of gods and corresponding their powers to verlap with pathfinders so go ahead and use them just dont expect many people to respond well to it.
The people will only see you as a person who hasnt suffered because the churches always collect tithes and are seen somewhat as a source of the corruption of the land. Multiple theologies and their own candidates for the throne and what have you.
ooo...ok..cool..I like the sound of that...and perhaps good old Kynneth is looking to make his own religion...holy sorcerers?!! Otherwise the background is ok?? or do you need more?
