Lore had a readied action to cast burning hands at the incoming flying things, so she sets off her spell as they come in.

Grim's crossbow arcs through the air and nips one of the flying insect creatures. Its wing has a small tear in it, but the creature continues to fly at you!
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26 Lore's bolt of energy catches the same creature, this time burning a hole into its other wing. The creature can't maintain flight and plummets to the ground like a rock.
Anyone else? Two flying insect creatures left

Ellis grabs his crossbow and fires at the incoming creature!
1d20 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 1 = 6 but the bolt flies across the room and lands harmlessly on the ground.
Initiative order: Ellis, Lore, Ruprecht, Grim, Arduino, NPC
No map but I think this doesn't need one. The room is fairly large, there is no way across except by (a)climbing down 30' into water, (b) using the ladders to move from columns of jutting rock (acrobatics check). sections are 15' from each other, the monsters make this a bit trickier! The NPC's are still out of melee range even if you move, the are about 15' higher than where you are now

Ruprecht will ready an action to try to spear a creature if it closes with him.

Lore scowls as she fears to attack the attached creature with fire, and instead holds her action while others closer can deal with it...

While Kin grabs at the monsters legs it allows for Grim to smash it with his axe. Suddenly the flying thing explodes like an overripe watermelon, blood gushing everywhere! On Ruprecth's arm is a large red welt that swells with blood.
Out of combat. You still have to get through the room or backtrack from where you came. You can climb down below and walk across then climb back up or you can use the ladders placed here to crawl from the columns of jutting rock.
Ruprecht Antillious
|
Note that Ruprecht is currently at 9/9 HP with his one point of Con loss.
"You know, we talked about it before, but it might be worth considering finding a place to rest and recuperate for the evening. Those flying monsters still have me feeling a bit peaked."
Brother Grimdoc
|
"Sounds good Ruprecht. Maybe we get across this chamber to make sure no more o dem bugbats is flyin around before we settle down for a nap. I think we will want to set watches as there are still too many o dem gobbies runnin around fer my likin. Last thing we need is to go to sleep only to wake up dead . "
Grim half chuckles then collects his dropped crossbow and sets to using the ladders to climb down then back up on the far side if not attacked first.
Ruprecht Antillious
|
"I don't know if we can get across this thing, Grim. We might have to just mark this place and come back later.
Arduino.
|
"One thing first." Turning to his companion, Arduino speaks "Would you mind sweeping the rooftops for any more of those foul insects? Well that's okay then I guess we'll just leave them up there to stealthily attack them in the night and kill me while we sleep... there's a good girl." Kin takes wing and soars off into the cavern, searching for more stirges.
Sensing some amused or surprised glances, Arduino turns to them and raises an eyebrow. "What? She's always said that SHE'LL be the only one to kill me, and lords help any puny insects who try it before she's good and ready."
Lorelendral Teklet
|
"Resting isn't a bad idea... I can heal everyone up to full who needs it before we settle in... Who needs some assistance still?"
Lorelendral Teklet
|
Lore settles in for the night as well... mutters softly just before she drifts off to sleep, "I'll take last watch... wake me when it's time."
Ruprecht Antillious
|
The elf follows suit, taking a nap, rising for middle watch, then falling back to sleep after waking Lore.
DrGabe
|
The explorers move partially into the hallway and find that rest comes easy. The large cavern to the east and the large multi-tiered room to the west are silent except for the occasional dripping of water. Everyone gets several hours of well needed sleep. Injuries start to heal slowly and spell casters are able to recover their arcane abilities.
You all get eight hours of rest and the associated benefits.
Brother Grimdoc
|
Grim awakens from his rest fully of life and ready to kick more goblin butts.
"Ah good mornin' to ye all! Let's see what we can find on the other side of the cavern now with a bit of rest under our belt. Hmmm, which reminds me (he pulls out some rations and munches on a hard biscuit) Mmm, we are not sure how long we goin' to be down here. We may have to go back for more food."
After eating, Grim will look to stacking the ladders horizontally from one pillar to then next to see how stable it looks.
kn:dungeoneering: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (13) + 4 = 17 if this helps. He does not have engineering, but has a rank in mining.
Lorelendral Teklet

After her morning prayers, Lore scowls at Grim's choice of a breakfast and fixes something much more appetizing for herself... still made up of trail rations, but including nuts and fruits as well as smoked meat and waybread. "You need to eat better, Grim... next time we have a chance, let me fix you a nice meal, okay?"
Ruprecht Antillious
|
"Now how are we going to cross this span, everyone? Grim, do you think those ladders will hold our weight?"
DrGabe
|
Grim looks at the ladders with a half loaf of bread dangling from his mouth like a lit cigar. After examining the situation he thinks that these ladders were likely placed here by the goblins to help get across. Further more it looks like the goblins actually blasted this room to pieces, and this was their solution to cross the area.
Simply put now that there isn't any danger, you can cross the ladders with a 5 Acrobatics check. You may take '10' if you like.
Lorelendral Teklet
|
Lore takes her time crossing ladders, letting Grim set them up, as she trusts him to do so safely. "Thank you, Grim."
taking 10
Ruprecht Antillious
|
Ruprecht carefully picks his way across the ladders, heading to the other side to join the others.
Take 10 as well.
Brother Grimdoc
|
"Now we are gettin' somewhere. Not sure where somewhere is, but we will be there soon enough."
The rotund dwarf gingerly steps onto the ladder and decides to send his shield across first, both to lessen his weight but also keep him from being unbalanced.
Without the shield and taking 10, he is +7 acrobatics
Grim collects his shield once he reaches the far side.
DrGabe
|
Ellis takes a '10' as well and moves across without any problem.
It doesn't take long and the well rested party is able to make it across the blown out pit without much problem. Leaving this room, you enter into a small tunnel that twists and turns for a few feet before making a slight ascension. Around a corner you see a framework of old timbers shoring up this hallway’s cracked and uneven ceiling. In the middle of the hall, a large stone block lies on top of the corpse of a crushed goblin.
Brother Grimdoc
|
"Whoa everyone...this looks like a mining collapse. I have seen the like back home. Not pretty...or end up like that green squishy"
Grim points to the goblin and then tries to determine the likelihood of a collapse. He carefully looks at the timbers, block and ceiling.
If either of these apply...
kn:dungeoneering: 1d20 + 4 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 4 + 2 = 26
or
profession:Miner: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (20) + 6 = 26
What a double waste of 20's!
DrGabe

Grim takes one look at this and understands immediately what happened. Pacing back and forth like a sleuth with a pipe he knows that the maker of tunnel (not goblins) likely didn't finish the tunnel before moving on. The goblins, and their explosions likely caused more instability to the tunnel and its eventually partial collapse. Despite the goblins efforts to shore up the tunnel, it is not unsafe for travel.
This goblin looks to have been moving through this area when the large stone decided to settle on its head.
Grim realizes that you can move through this area, but risk having some of the smaller rocks around here fall on top of you. However, a large collapse that would trap or kill someone isn't likely to happen.
