Up to you all. If we know when Ms. Mott and Edderly are together, we could have Mr. Mott see them, or see Cy and someone else disguised as Edderly leading to Captain Mott going upstairs and finding his real wife with the real Edderly.
How about we find out the next time the disreputable couple are getting together, we leave a crumpled and partially burned note for Captain Mott to find. A note saying that the Captain is on duty and Edderly is wondering if the lonely Ms. Mott would like some company.

I like Drens plan. Just tell me what to do.

Jax, your post in the market gives you a chance to chat with people (i.e., to hear rumors). And a big one just hit today: a rider came into town with news from the distant capital... where a *huge* scandal has erupted: apparently more than a dozen wealthy members of high society, including several nobles all too close to the Crown, have been involved in some sort of creepy heretical religious sect or cult. Details are unclear and the rumors are garbled, but everything from "sex cult" to "demon worship" is getting thrown around.
Cуровую зиму
And Edmin and Jax make a run through the tunnel to dump the body in the cistern.
And that's Day 9.
DM this is a quick fast forward for Cуровую, but still has business on night 9. The patrol or planting evidence against the captains.
DM I posted that on night 9 Cуровую would have some business to do. Cуровую would ask some of the group if they anted to search for captain Edderly's home and ask what spells they needed her to Scribe.
Any requests? Does anyone need a Scroll for the next few days? If you have the funds of course I would appreciate it.
Cуровую зиму
DM had to post on the discussion thread and now very late for an appointment then straight to work, may I post night 9 and day 10 actions late this evening? I will read gameplay thread and I will also level up Cуровую as a Wizard by tomorrow. Started to build her as an Oracle but will go Wizard because that's what the group needs.

A second bit of rumor on the street, later in the day: Innkeeper Barhold is under arrest! Apparently he want mad at the performance yesterday and attacked some poor seamstress. He's in the small local jail (really just a room with a lock on it on the side of the small Mayor's office, it's normally used to cool drunks off).
Xenfal
Xen will poke about the performers and especially the crew and see what he can learn about why they haven't left. Maybe another show!!!!
He used the same persona he used to ingratiate himself to them before. He avoids little people.

Which is precisely the reason why I wanted to put him under my control, so he wouldn't do anything stupid and get people asking why he is acting so odd.
Two votes for my plan (me and Edmin), one vote I see for just exposing them, one vote for Mott seeing them at a glance.
Judge, you are the leader I say just make the call.
With Barnhold arrested and the troupe still here I am concerned about someone else catching on as our plans come to fruition.
Should we lay low for the day and see what happens with the troupe?
Jax Naismith
I don't have an opinion so vote with Xen.
That is a LOT of juicy secrets. At a glance, I'll guess: the seamstress that Barnhold attacked was the gnome. Didn't we try to convince him that a halfling did the job? Looks like it worked. Sheesh. Wondering why the troupe is still staying there..perhaps Xen can work out the Barnhold bit I assumed.
And a sex/demon cult? Could this be one of the knots? Jax would like to try and get more information from this, if he can. I'm not sure what kind of roll that would be. Everyone loves gossip! its not too hard to imagine someone asking about THAT sort of gossip. Diplo and Intimidate are at +0.
If this happened during the night, Jax will find somewhere alone to talk to it and try to coerce it to speak intelligibly. If it occurs during Day 9, he'll handle it after succeeding or failing to ask about the demon cult gossip and prior to the plans with Mott.
Jax Naismith

Scrolls take quite a few hours. Maybe another scroll or two of invisibility? 3 minutes of +20 stealth for the whole party would make invading the tower easy as pie. Jax is willing to pay for his own completely (unsure of cost).
Dren of the Dark Tapestry
Dren would like a scroll of disguise self written at 3rd level. 37.5gp as well as an inviso scroll if we have time.
We should indeed find out where Mott and Edderly live in town. It may be time to pay them a visit. If needed we can eliminate them separately and then combine and stage the scene.
We should wait though to see how the situation develops with the troupe. I still believe the leader is either an agent for the kingdom or allied with Nimpy. Too many things with them are lining up against us.
Maybe we should pay a visit to the troupe leader... Dren absently fingers his dagger.
The dagger almost calls to him. He has laid forth the plans to listen to their words but the sacrifice has been denied him...so many times...not much longer he promises himself. He will bath it in their blood.
Already he can feel their power grow within him. He has summoned several minor illusions as well as caused himself to rise into the air. The voices tell him that he can summon their claws to strike at his foes or stop the noises entirely...he just has to open his heart to a little more of the darkness...

Hearing the news:
We are strong. If we know the captain's schedules, we should be able to take out Mott, Ms. Mott and Edderly individually. Then we can place them together as though it was a lover's quarrel resulting in a murder-suicide.
We use disguises so that Edderly thinks he was killed by Mott and Mott thinks he was killed by Edderly. Find their schedules and then take them out while they sleep at home since we know that both of private homes.
If this does not work, then Dren's plan is good.
Douglas Muir 406
Xen will poke about the performers and especially the crew and see what he can learn about why they haven't left. Maybe another show!!!!
[roll roll]
Not another show. The members of the troupe are confused and a little annoyed. Their leader was called to the Commander's office after the play and a second time yesterday after the tent performance.
Cуровую зиму
And Edmin and Jax make a run through the tunnel to dump the body in the cistern.
I just got home. Long day.
DM please note that Cуровую cast See Invisibility after the cleric fell. She will shadow Edmin and Jax to see if anyone hidden may have been watching.
Cуровую зиму
(BTW: the tent outside of town? Overcrowded, one exit, total fire hazard. A couple of fire elementals and a few well-cast spells to block the exit, and you could have eliminated 20+ soldiers -- maybe a quarter of the garrison -- in half an hour. Along with a hundred or so civilians, of course.)
What roll would have been needed to realize that? For some reason I thought they were more open areas, almost like a fair rather than a circus big top.
Douglas Muir 406
DM please note that Cуровую cast See Invisibility after the cleric fell.
I already responded to that.

To just notice it passively? Knowledge [Architecture & Engineering]. But Xen was the only one hanging around the theater and he doesn't have any ranks in that. Just asking about it would also have done the trick, mind: "Why, yes, that does seem pretty hazardous now that you mention it." A good way to kill a chunk of the garrison at one go.
But nota bene, you don't have to pop every single balloon. You can miss various things and still complete the mission.

Yes, but what I meant to add was I accompanied Edmin and Jax with it 'on'. You said they were going to deal with the body.

Guys remember the special stationary note we found on the boat that was from a female in the capital?

Also: the troupe has not left town yet -- they're still at their campsite, though they've folded up the big tent. Weren't they supposed to leave today?
Maybe they are a troupe of traveling thieves. Xen and Jax, remember the day before the play in the tower I asked if you could find our where the troupes next stops were scheduled to go.
Guys the innkeeper went after the gnome. Either DM is just poking us to jump at this or something is up with that gnome. I keep hoping its a red herring but we should not leave this to chance. DM just makes me jumpy.
Xen and Jax would you two like to investigate this a little further?
Actually DM, can Cуровую make here after noon inquiries regarding this? The innkeeper and the 'gnome seamstress' in particular.

I will plan to watch Mott.
Jax, you want to take the other? Xen is busy poking around the troupe.
Can we get an updated tower map with the areas we have seen so far? I think we scouted the entire lower level and Zim was able to see some of the upper level right?
Cуровую зиму
DM made another Knowledge Local above.
Guys I like what we are thinking with the captains.
What I had said a few days ago was, killing them both may draw suspicion. What if we kill Edderly in his home and plant evidence against Mott there and in Mott's room at the fort?
This way the commander and his soldiers still have to deal with Mott and Edderly is dead, and both are 'out of the way'.
What about the patrol?
Anyone want to hazard a guess to what the commander and the troupe leader are talking about? Xen and Jax, remember the day before the play in the tower I asked if you could find our where the troupes next stops were scheduled to go. We may have to pursue these guys later.
Jax Naismith
I don't think we should waste a whole day following around and learning schedules. DM already said it will take ONE to TWO whole days. We only have 2 days total, we haven't the time. I vote to just expose the evidence and be done with it. We're getting so complex with all of these plans and I don't even know what they are anymore.
The patrol is 2 days at least away by now. We do not have time to go after them. We have two days before the stew and we still don't have a plan for how to get the poison into that.
There's so many trails, dead-ends and hints that I'm pretty much lost so..Jax will at this point just do whatever Judge says to do.
Douglas Muir 406
Zimu, you are a bit distracted by something you can't quite remember.
The Old Talirean name for a hazelnut was "aveline". This tree, common today, was an introduced exotic at first, and so became associated with nobility, especially the nobility of service. Several noble families have names derived from this plant, or make use of it in their coats of arms. -- The Book of the Great Houses
Stationery, special paper. Stationary, a thing unmoving or settled. Her letter signed with a little sigil like a narrow face with three eyes. She knows about the Cardinal. How? How?
The Cardinal is standing by the fire. Faint smell like dust and spices, overriden by woodsmoke and the sharp tang of magic. The Inquisitor coming to visit, riding to Thorn House down an alley of newly planted saplings, bright sun on new green leaves. The sunlight gleams on his polished armor, blue and white enameled breastplate of holy Mitra. Something. Something there. The Cardinal... has a weakness. What is it?
Sex and demons? Ridiculous rumor, but... why now? Your aunt's calm voice and hard hand. "For Grandmother's children, there are no coincidences." If you are clever you can dodge the blow, but you must pay attention.
Sex and demons makes you think of Jax, though you know that a tiefling can be formed in more ways than the obvious. The taint of the Abyss can spread... unpredictably. Still, Jax. What about Jax? Was he the man with the black sword in her letter? Or was that someone else? Who?
A name you heard once, half remembered, something in a story told, someone said that someone said. Who?
Hazelnuts and fire and the smell of spices, the connections are there, but under the snow and frozen ground like tree roots in winter. You are missing a piece.
Zimu has gone unusually quiet.

The reason the troop leader of the performers is being called is pretty obvious. Morsum entered into the sanctuary and was detected. This set off alarms. Morsum then disappeared - no teleport, no magic, no gate, just POOF - gone. The Commander is trying to determine what caused his celestial sentinels to suddenly start sending out alert messages.
Now the cleric has mysteriously gone off on a strange quest by himself.
The first summons was to ask about those in the troop to attempt to determine whether any were evil. The second summons is to determine the location of the troop members to try to find out whether anything strange happened to the cleric.
Fortunately, the troop leader is telling the Commander that he has no clue what evil was in the fort or where the father went, because he has no idea about these things. Even under Zone of Truth, he would have no idea.
_____________
The problem with killing just Edderly, or just Mott, is that under Zone of Truth, but will say they did not do the killing. However, if we can take them both out, then all the better. The reason for trying to get Mott to walk in on Edderly and Ms. Mott is that with Mott's fiery temper, we are hoping to get them into a sword fight. The only problem with this is that both are LG soldiers, on is a cheating adulterer, but still a LG soldier. I do not know whether even this would lead to murder. A fistfight perhaps, but probably not murder unless we can get Mott drunk enough to overcome his normal inhibitions.
My choice would be to kill/murder both in their sleep. Xen or Jax can trail either one from the fort gate back to their home after their shift is finished. With only 2 captains and the Commander in the fort at present, they are going to have to pretty much split the watch command 8 hours each. We follow one back to his home and then wait until he goes to sleep. Then we sneak in under Dren's silence and CDG him with his own sword. We then wait for the other and do the same thing. We can take out prissy Ms. Mott as well. Once all three are dead, we carry Edderly's body to Mott's home and stage it as though Mott found Edderly in bed with Ms. Mott and simply lost his mind killing the two of them and then himself.
Xenfal
Xen will follow up on those questions in the classic mode of the actor. Gossip and speculation!
Was the troupe leader upset? Why do you think he got called to the commander? Do you think the commander was offended by the play? Maybe the commander is enthralled and wants private lessons? Maybe the commander is trying to land a girl and wants help?
Judge Tohram Quasangi
BTW, killing the good Father seems to have wrought some sort of deep change in the Judge. He's looking... worse. Paler (if that were possible) and more gaunt. His eyes are getting redder and more sunken, and he has deep dark circles under them.
He looks seriously sick, actually.
Yes, hard to believe, but the haggard gaunt look that the Judge has been sporting recently when his disguise is off has become even more pronounced. Perhaps he has taken to the bottle after hours because his eyes appear sunken and bloodshot.
Of course you do not see this as he keeps his disguise up at almost all times. The Judge has also apparently given up on bathing as his odor seems be rather more unpleasant than previously.
Douglas Muir 406
You know, I don't usually peel back the vinyl in mid-scenario, but the Judge is spot on this time. The troupe lead initially got summoned because of Morsum, and then summoned again because WTH? Where did Father Dunnigan go? From the Commander's perspective, odd stuff is happening and it seems to be associated with the troupe somehow.

I'm a Judge, we are supposed to analyze facts and determine right and wrong . . . and how to manipulate the system for our own benefit.
Dren of the Dark Tapestry
Dren is following one, just need someone to follow the other, I am good with your plan.
Tonight then or stew day? It would be nice to eliminate them on stew day so they can't react as the men get sick.
As far as the stew, Xen goes back to visit Mama with Zimu, she charms her and then they spike her stew while she isn't watching and busy with Zimu as he new best friend.
Judge Tohram Quasangi
Xen should be able to chat with his drinking buddies and get a general idea of the shift changes for the captains and the commander. Most soldiers would know who was in charge and when unless this changes all the time.
Xenfal
I can try...though he was the last one seen with the Father. Do we want to risk that? I am starting to move to Jax's thought of just exposing the evidence. If nothing else one of them will be inrpisoned I assume
