I am sure will agree to go in search of your key. However, what can be done to restore the seal that you destroyed? Without it, you may have summoned some fine adventurers, but you have also freed all of the evil monsters of the darklands to roam and come to the surface in search of food. How can we possibly restore the balance without the seal?"

As soon as you return the key, I will restore the balance..I promise it.

"This sounds like a good offer. Let me just confer with my companions for a moment and I will tell you our decision."

Kyren looks to the other to see if they are in agreement, hoping they will all agree quickly before the Beholder decides to change his mind.

"Well Salfon, normally I would agree. I too do not like making deals with monsters. However, this one seems very intelligent and he probably is not a monster where he comes from. I don't think we have much of a choice in this matter. Besides, once we get the key for him, we can get him out of here, the balance will be restored and then we can get out of here as well. What he is asking us to do does not seem immoral. As long as he keeps his word, we have a win, win, win situation!"

Turning to the beholder, Kyren addresses the one eyed monster.

"Well, Mister Quazakatarza, we are going to help you find the key. Do you have some ideas where this spider's lair may be?"

From the chronicles of the dwarves my men found out that the spider must reside in a room whose door is engraved with a symbol...but the dwarves wanted to keep that secret and didn't openly tell what is depicted. They wrote down a riddle:

What always asks "who!" but never is answered, that is awake by night but not by day.

"Oh I love riddles! That sounds like an owl to me! 'Who, who? Who cooks for you?' I would always ask the great bard owl. Now, how does that answer help us? Does it open the door to the spider's lair?"

If an owl is the answer, you should look for a door with an owl carved on it.

Quazakatarza seems to think the conversation has ended and hovers away along the northern corridor.

(still in a whispered conference) we'd be foolish to assume it's going to follow it's end of the bargain 100%, but right now I don't see another choice. If he's not good for his word and just leaves, then we haven't really lost anything; we can still try to figure out how to fix this imbalance. We just need to be as prepared for treachery as we can be.

*once the open discussion commences*

Listening to the discourse while gnawing leisurely on the kill, it seems that the cats are starting to get a bit agitated...their tails flick with sharp purpose and their ears begin to twitch with a bit of caution and aggression.

With little warning they spring to their feet and start looking at the unconscious man causing such a fuss. One of the cats turns back to the kill and with tooth and claw prises off the head, holding the bloodied melon in its jaws... the head bears gory remnants hanging from it like a madmans Pinata, and the cats pad over toward the comatose cultist and drop the head beside him.

It seems that they intend to wake the man up, but its highly doubtful it will be a gentle awakening... one cat looks to his leg, one looks to an arm.

One of their tongues hangs loose, as though he is about to be licked in the face.

The unconscious cultist moans and starts to scramble weakly, to get on his belly...

Kyren draws upon Touch of Destiny moments before he goes out to talk with the cultist.

"Blaze, Alchy, Vaughn, I am going to need the three of you to help me out in case things start to go sour. Ok? Now how do we look?"

Disguise 1d20 + 5 + 3 ⇒ (4) + 5 + 3 = 12

Confused the man touches the large bruise on his forehead and flinches because of the pain
