Scent does not work through walls..Kibb gets no trace of his Master but you do get a fair scent of evil from the area and the stinky stinky ogre kin smells..theres a fair number of individual scents here but the overlay each other so much that Ali cannot tell exactly how many are living here....all she can tell is that there at least 8 seperate scents.
Romon..the Barn doors are shut
Ah, so this is a hermetically sealed, old wooden barn, made with medieval level technology then. And same for the house. Well why didn't ya just say so? No worries then. Also, just as an aside, not all walls are created equal my dear DM. A wall of say, bamboo, is not quite the same as a 2 foot thick wall of stone. Just a thought.
While the others skulked around the barn, Ali flows to Gnome for a moment and motions them to halt while she quickly casts a few spells. After casting her spells she whispers to the others "Ali think there be" she holds up 8 fingers "this many peoples here" before flowing back to wolf form.
Casts Barkskin on Little Bear, Lunas and herself, and Greater Magic Fang on Lunas.

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Surrender! You are outnumbered and over matched!" Esteriande calls, reading herself to attack.
Delaying initiative until she can make a united rush with Muchorak and Ursas, or they come to us. She is in 6.06. Where are the ogres?

![]() |

Marak either steps a pace towards or away from the ogrekin, depending on how close they get to him before he begins chanting.
Starting in 04.06. 5 ft. step towards if none are within 15 ft. 5 ft. step away, if any are within 15 ft. Casting summon monster III as a full round action to summon 1d3 small earth elementals. He won't start casting until his initiative, which is well after the Graul's go, so he might be able to avoid losing the spell to injury this round, although he could still be interrupted if he or Muchorak take damage next round, before the spell goes off on his initiative! 1d3 ⇒ 1
Ah, dice roller, my ancient enemy. Again, you task me!

Inikai |

Yes, this dice roller has taken a decidely unfriendly turn toward Inikai aslso. He used to go early in rounds.
Inikai curses himself for kicking the bucket and goes flush with humiliation. He is still looking at the bucket when the doors burst open and is not prepared to act.
He is in 05.10 and will use Sow Discord/Murderous Command against one of the ogres one his turn comes up.
DC 18 Will save or attack nearest ally for one round.

Muchorak "Windstriker" |

Understanding the Course of action to come Muchorak says a quick prayer to the spirits and places his hands on Ursus; casts Magic Fang (claws will be the natural weapon). Once the prayer is done he will nod his readiness and move with Esteriande…
Muchorak
Stealth 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (3) + 11 = 14
Ursus at his side
Stealth 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
And catching up to current events
Muchorak (6.09) and Ursus (5.09)…as I understand the plan was to be on either side of the door. Though I believe we didn’t get that opportunity with the ‘clanking’ sounds? If not which side would we have come from? To ease things Muchorak and Ursus in effect would’ve been forming a line with Esteriande. So if she was able to get to her current position just as the Ogrekin bursted out Muchorak and Ursus would be in (5.06 and 4.06) respectively.
Assuming we have the ‘line’ Muchorak will be waiting for the Ogrekin to ‘charge’ us; and will then unleash his full fury along with his companion…

Alisebett |

Also not sure how far Aliwolf and Lunas would have been able to get before the ogres charged out, or what side we came from, but they be either near Murchoral and Esterainde. Ideally they're on the opposite side of the line as Big & Little Bear, so 6.09/5.09 or 5.06/4.06.

Esteriande d'Litran |

I can guess Romon will be in 06.10 to balance things out.
Esteriande will wait for the haste to kick in, and if the ogrekin attack (if, she says) will unload on her attacker using power attack:
Attack #1: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (3) + 13 = 16 Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Attack #2: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (9) + 12 = 21
Attack #haste: 1d20 + 13 ⇒ (1) + 13 = 14 Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (2) + 12 = 14
Attack #2 Threat Confirm: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (6) + 8 = 14 Damage: 1d10 + 12 ⇒ (4) + 12 = 16

DM Wellard |

Off course they attack..
The ogrekin growl a threat move forward..(5'step for each) and launch attacks on Esteriande(2), Muchorak(the club guy) and Ursas. In response Esteriande cuts one of her opponents down before he can land a blow.
On Esteriande 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (17) + 11 = 28 Damage 1d3 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 non-lethal
On Muchorak 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (18) + 11 = 29 Damage 2d8 + 8 ⇒ (3, 8) + 8 = 19 lethal Marak takes 9 off that
On Ursas1d20 + 11 ⇒ (20) + 11 = 31 Damage 1d3 + 8 ⇒ (1) + 8 = 9 non-lethal
Critical Confirm on Ursas 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27 Damage 1d3 + 8 ⇒ (3) + 8 = 11 non-lethal (Total of 21 non-lethal)
Ali/Lunas are up

Inikai |

Romon looks anxiously at the knot of ogrekin. He estimates his chances of getting around behind them. Not good unless one or two of them go down first.
If two of them start fighting eachother it will give you back-stabbing opportunities

Alisebett |

So I'm assuming the ogrekin in 06.07 is gone? And |Muchorak and Esteriande have cover or partial from the one still indoors, correct?

The damage that Marak has taken through his link with Muchorak is a distant drop of pain in a sea of magical energy, barely noticed as he casts his mind towards the plane of earth, attempting to entice creatures of stone and soil to answer his plea.

DM Wellard |

Ali there was an ogrekin right beside you in 05.07(they all took a 5'step forward from the map positions.) so I'm assuming thats the one you went for
Ali sinks her teeth into the shin of the Ogre-kin then Naria casts haste and Muchorak and Ursas tear into their opponents after which the only remaining one is Ali's opponent. (Lunas missed so he's still on his feet)
Inikai and Romon your actions please?

Romon |

Romon slides to his left behind Muchorak and Ursas
move to 03.08. Attack with point blank shot at 10' range.
Acrobatics to slip an AoO if needed. 1d20 + 15 ⇒ (16) + 15 = 31

Oops, I hope no one was standing nearby
Damage
1d8 + 10 ⇒ (2) + 10 = 12

Romon |

Romon snatches his returning dagger out of the air and sheathes it. He takes a quick look around to see if any other ogres heard the brief battle. Then remembering how well equipped Graul and Spike were, he stoops over the fallen bodies to search them.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (13) + 12 = 25
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (20) + 12 = 32
Appraise: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (12) + 7 = 19
I'll bet this lot have nothing good.

Esteriande d'Litran |

Glancing at the boarded up house, Esteriande shakes her head and starts to haul the bodies inside the barn again.
"'Elp me get zese out of sight, zen we can close ze doors. Eet is possible zose in ze 'ouse will not notice a while yet," she explains briefly.

Inikai |

Inikai looks around in an arc for any foes before sheathing his sword and lending a hand in dragging the bodies.
"Naria, perhaps it would be better if you kept an eye out for any more of their kin" he suggests.

Esteriande d'Litran |

As soon as we drag the bodies and all of the party inside, Esteriande shuts the doors. Seeing Kibb snuffling at the central doors, she climbs the steps to the north and follows the catwalk along to the door there, and pauses to listen at it.
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23

Romon |

Romon pushes one door open just wide enough for Naria to squeeze through. Then he looks around the inside of the barn.
Keeping lines of communication open. Naria could hide inside the barn in the shadows and watch the house from there.
Wellard, hayloft? Does that central wall go all the way to the roof or ceiling?

![]() |

As the last of the ogrekin fell, Marak succeeded in calling forth a halfling sized elemental of earth and stone, which follows him around aimlessly for the next half-minute, as they move bodies, before crumbling away.
"Somehow, I thought a fight with four of them would have lasted longer than a fight with one of them..." he mutters, as he looks around the place for any signs of the missing ranger.
Perception 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (8) + 7 = 15

Alisebett |

Still not sure how Scent will be working here, but I'll give it a shot...
Ali and Lunas also follow Kibb, trying to pick up on what the bear is smelling. She also asks him if she can't tell herself "What back there brother bear?"
Perception: 1d20 + 12 ⇒ (11) + 12 = 23
If possible, she will flow to hawk and fly over the wallm

DM Wellard |

There is no upper level door.Esteriande can read Romon's spoiler above.
Unbarring the doors and pushing them open Muchorak is nearly barged out off the way by Kibb who shambles into the room beyond and comes to a halt beside a recumbent figure..the bears plaintive huffs and his nudging of the unconcious man would suggest this is his Person.
There are two other men here.
Kibbs human is an older man his hair greying, the other two are a Mature Shoanti and a much younger Varisian looking man.
All three show evidence of long term abuse

Esteriande d'Litran |

Esteriande makes her way down (jumps or uses steps if there are any - take ten is 22 on Acrobatics) to the three figures. She checks each with Heal to ensure they are alive and to know the extent of their injuries, then channels power from her goddess to the three. If Marak is also going to check them over, we can combine to Aid Another.
Heal (older man): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Heal (shoanti): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (17) + 4 = 21 Enough to Treat Deadly Wounds for level hit points back
Heal (Varisian): 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Channel: 3d6 ⇒ (2, 1, 3) = 6 healing

![]() |

Marak steps into the enclosed area, and as soon as the others are also within, shuts the door to block line of effect to the ogrekin in the other area and channels energy as well.
4d6 ⇒ (3, 5, 3, 4) = 15
The gentler wave of Shelyn's grace is rudely overwhelmed by the surge of desert heat and wind that accompanies Nethys' power, although the two divine sources combine efforts in the end.

DM Wellard |

The older mans eyes open slowly as do his companions. He squints at you in the dim light then seems to breathe a sigh of relief.
"At last...I was almost out off hope." he says "I would welcome you properly but our hosts have left us little..
This is true as the three men have no clothing but ragged breechclouts.
"I am Jakardros Sovak..these are Kaven Windstrike (he nods towards the younger man) and Vale Temros.Who are you people and who sent you"

Esteriande d'Litran |

"Indeed," Esteriande nods, digging in her pack for a cloak for one of the men. "No word 'as come from Fort Rannick for weeks now, so we were dispatched to discover ze reason. On ze way 'ere, we found your good friend zere, and 'e led us to zese 'alf-ogres. We 'ave 'ad to kill half a dozen so far, but zere is an 'ouse nearby zat may 'ave 'ide more of zem."
Esteriande pauses.
"I forget myself," she smiles, and makes introductions of the party to the three men. "Now, briefly, can you tell us what 'as occured at ze fort, and 'ow you came to be 'ere?"

Alisebett |

Really? Again?
Apparently not smelling or sensing anything (even with a roll of 23) and not being able to fly over the door that the others simply use the walkway to get over, Ali walks in with Lunas and is completely surprised to see the three unbathed prisoners whom she could not scent from a few feet away.
Her heart going out to them, she calls upon the spirit of the Land and gentle healing magics rise from the earth beneath them to strengthen all those around her.
Spontaneous Healing: She loses a 3rd level spell and all gain 3hp/round for 3 rounds.
She then says to the one doing all the speaking so far "Hi! I be Ali. 'Finds salmon by mooonlight' say that you be his two-legs, yes yes? He also say that bad bad 'Killers of Wolves' do take you and keep you for many turnings of Sun. How that happen? How long you be here? And there be any more friends or yours, of bad bad ones here?" she is obviously quite excited to meet and be speaking to this two-legs who she senses is very close to the Land.
