DM Stephen |

Congrats on reaching 1000 posts folks!
Here is the map per your requested setup...I will wait for confirmation then proceed with advancing the time saying you leave and come back 5 minutes later hiding in the position I have laid out waiting for the others to arrive. When you confirm let me know if yo cast any preparation spells.
Ruined Bldg Battle with the Cannibals
BTW the brown area is the esge of the hill, it is a steep enough drop off the edge that you do't want to cross those hexes.

Aedalis Omathi |

Yup, just fine. Remember poor Tilsini needs a tiny token, hes actually going to get stuck in this combat.
As Aedalis waits with the others to launch the ambush, he turns to Nim.
Are you familiar with the "Enlarge Person" transmutation spell? With your permission, i'd like to place it upon you just before we launch the attack.
If Nim is willing, Aedalis will cast it on him just prior to attacking (and explain the spell if he doesn't know it :P).

Mihai Soarta |

Position on the map looks fine for Mihai.
After the others leave Mihai turns to those that remain with a smile on his face "We must do our part one and all. Trust in the Walker, he will see that we walk on." moving around the group to clasp arms and provide encouragement. His voice is firm and true... but his heart quavers with the coming affray.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 8 ⇒ (15) + 8 = 23 -just for a gee up of the NPC spirits.

Anton Green |

Anton speaks up. "All things considered, I think that it would be better for me to circle around by myself to the other side, to wait a short ways south of their likely path. If I'm wearing my breastplate, then I can't move quickly -- even with these awesome boots -- but I can still find a good hiding spot, and hit them from a third direction. Besides, it would be more comfortable for me to take the position of a hunter waiting for his prey."
Suggested position in the jungle on the east side, counting from its SW corner: just one square NE and one north from that. So, at least 20' away from the path where they'll probably come out. With the boots' longstrider effect still active, Anton's speed is currently 20 ft. in medium armor.

You probably couldn't get in position in the timeline I have laid out...also not sure if you want to be split from any healers in the group just in case you get hit by a random crit, dropped and then bleed out since no one can get to you.

Surprise Round: HP 15/15, AC 18 (due to total defence action)
Mihai looks up to see the mass of cannibal flesh moving towards them... his heart grows hard, but his voice remains soft "Hold my friends, the others will come and bring with them righteous fury" he then takes a warded stance looking to the East.
Total defence

DM Stephen |

So Aedalis got his spell off on Nim before the fight started? Need clarity.
[ooc]You are not sure when they were going to arrive, I assume you waited until you saw them through the jungle?
I will allow you to cast it just before the suprise round since you had indicated that you wanted to get it on him but Nim would have to change his position to be located behind the building D,E/-8,-9 in the jungle to not be seen and ruin the surprise round.Nim assuming you are okay with the shift you are now large sized and at that position.
I will adjust the map tonight, no maptools at work.[ooc]

Good points! Uh.. hmmm. What to do now?

SURPRISE ROUND
Nim does a double take when he sees Anton spring from hiding and charge straight at the advancing cannibals. Too soon! They aren't close enough! They may flee if they realize we have all doubled back!
Assuming the ruins give Nim total cover/concealment from the natives...
Seeing the ambush has been sprung, Nim and Wicewakan break from the jungle and move swiftly towards the wall of the ruins directly to their east. move action to -2/-3 D/E and -2, F respectively Keeping to the blind side of the ruins, Nim advances out of sight of the natives, hoping Anton's sudden reappearance is not enough to scare them away.
If the ruins do not provide enough cover/concealment to hide his advance, Nim would delay until the natives move closer to the ruins.

Nim -- AC: 13 HP: 21 of 21
Wicewakan -- AC: 14 HP: 23 of 23

Seeing Anton break from cover far too early Corbius shakes his head. So much for surprising them.

Don't sweat it... It doesn't matter to me... it is Nim who is the cranky pants. It might be even more interesting this way! ;)

DM Stephen |

Gelik, Sasha, Aerys, and Jask appear to start waiting for the Cannibals to charge, Sasha has her blade and axe out, and Aerys seems to just have her fists ready cracking her knuckles in a satisfying manner.
The building should be high enough to hide Nim you guess...

Anton Green |

Round 1, Initiative 23
Anton suddenly feels very exposed, walking out there all by himself. Wait. What am I doing? He eyes the distance to the treeline, then looks over at the ruins where they made their camp. Right. Can't leave them defenseless, and no way I can make it in time otherwise.
The diminutive ranger breaks into a jog, trotting across the open ground with ground-eating strides -- well, if only his legs were twice as long. Ground-nibbling strides, perhaps; but a lot of them. Furiously ground-nibbling? Scarfing small bites of ground? Anyway, he's jogging, yet not really moving that fast.
His polearm carried casually, Anton looks over at the ruins and calls out cheerily. "Hallo the camp! Forgot something, be there in a sec."
Run action east to L13.

Aedalis Omathi |

Aedalis steps out to K -4, accompanied by his faithful familiar, producing a loaded crossbow as he walks. Without ceremony, he aims and fires at one of the cannibals.
1d20 - 2 ⇒ (17) - 2 = 15 (Range penalty included)
1d8 ⇒ 8

Niɱ |

Round 1
Nim watches as Anton attempts to disguise his misstep... only to see Aedalis step forth and fire upon the cannibals. And here we go... hope they are hungry enough to want to stick around and try their luck against us all.
Nim hesitates, hoping the cannibals move forward to attack, planning to make retreat difficult via entangling vegetation behind them either way.
Nim will delay until after the cannibals have acted.
Current status:
Nim -- AC: 13 HP: 21 of 21
Wicewakan -- AC: 14 HP: 23 of 23
Longstrider (Nim): expires in 1 hr 55 min
Enlarge Person (Nim): round 18

Aedalis Omathi |

As they were visible on the map I did assume I had line of sight on the barbarians. If this wasn't the case, Aedalis' action would instead be to cast Mage Armour on Tilsini. Also, the attack roll should have been higher, forgot I actually have a positive BAB.

Corbius Jank |

Corbius will delay until after the cannibals have acted

DM Stephen |

Gelik and the ohter castaways continue to delay in the ruin.
Aedalis releases a bolt...it soars quite a distance and even though there is some jungle cover it sinks into one of the "others". He cries out in pain as it strikes him in the shoulder.
Let me know which one you hit please otherwise I will assign randomly?
Tragershen is up.

Tragershen |

A calm washes over Tragershen, feeling comfortable now that he has arcane protection against these cannibals. He focuses and begins a spell that he hopes will tip the odds in their favor.
Starts casting Sleep, a one round action. (Using Bonded Object call to cast.}

DM Stephen |

The others start hooting and making other noises as soon as they see Anton and to a lesser degree Aedalis.
The red headed one barks out a warning once he sees Anton, Wait, the others have come back! but it seems too late.
As soon as another one yells out, The little one for the pot, must be good eatin!, the other men rush out of the woods drawing Javelins as the they move up.
Maybe it is the appearance of the two of them and possibly the others standing in the woods, but the warriors don't advance with complete recklessness. The ones that can see Anton launch a volly of Javelins at him...hoping to make him into a human pincushion...
1st range increment:
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 2 = 12 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (1) + 2 = 3
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (13) + 3 - 2 = 14 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 2 ⇒ (15) + 3 - 2 = 16 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (4) + 2 = 6
2nd:
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (11) + 3 - 4 = 10 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (18) + 3 - 4 = 17 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 3 - 4 = 8 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5
Javelin 1d20 + 3 - 4 ⇒ (16) + 3 - 4 = 15 dam 1d6 + 2 ⇒ (5) + 2 = 7
Red Head:
Javelin 1d20 + 6 - 4 ⇒ (3) + 6 - 4 = 5 dam 1d6 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4
The hooting stops when not a single Javelin scores a hit...they seem almost stunned at the little mans speed and agility in dodging the weapons, a more serious look comes across their faces. The red headed one spits on the ground obviously frustrated...
Aedalis, your crossbow hit the one at K21.

Satisfied that the cannibals are intent on attack, Nim shifts into the open move action to J/K -1/-2 with Wicewakan at his side. move to J 0 As he moves into view Nim focuses his attention on the terrain under and behind the charging cannibals. Round 2, Initiative 23
Anton huffs in relief at making it through the hail of javelins unscathed. The mundane ranger's eyebrows rise when he sees the plants near the cannibals begin to writhe and wrap around them of their own accord; then he smirks when he realizes that this must be the entangling magic that Nim mentioned. Moving up onto the stairs to the ruins, the sharp-eyed halfling stands sentinel and waits with his long polearm at the ready, silently watching the red-headed leader for a subtle weakness or unconscious pattern of behavior that he could exploit.
Free action to gloat. Single move to J15 (I think just barely outside the entangle radius). Move action to Perceive the Enemy.

I just realized that I made a mistake when I listed my co-ordinates for entangle. I meant to target just behind (2 squares off the map) the cannibals and their leader (as the fluff text in my post mentioned). Instead of adding to the co-ordinate numbers (off the map) I subtracted from 25 at the edge instead. The target intersection should have read K/L 27/28. Sorry. Please forgive my idiocy. :)

DM Stephen |

I'll wait for the Round 2 map if its ok, fortunes tricky to use well without one.
There won't be a map update until I get home tonight since I don't have maptools at work. We are actually just in Round 3 as Nim & Corbrius came off their delay in Round 2 just after the Cannibals.
I consider the surprise Round as Round 1 for future reference. The only changes were movements from Nim, Corbrius and Anton to move up.
NP Nim on the update, I will get both in tonight when I get home.

Gelik begins to climb part of the ruined building until he gets to a section of the roof where he can see the battlefield...he drops prone so it is harder for any cannibals to target him.
Tragershen is up and can let me know which enemies to target.

DM Stephen |

Saves vs. Entangle:
Cannibal 1 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (3) + 2 = 5 Ent.
Cannibal 2 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8Ent.
Cannibal 3 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Cannibal 4 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12Ent.
Cannibal 5 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (17) + 2 = 19
Cannibal 6 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4Ent.
Cannibal 7 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (20) + 2 = 22
Cannibal 8 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4Ent.
Cannibal 9 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (16) + 2 = 18
Cannibal 10 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (10) + 2 = 12Ent.
Cannibal 11 Reflex Save 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (6) + 2 = 8Ent.
Klorak Reflex Save 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
The entangle is effective and wraps up 7 of the Cannibals.
Save vs. Sleep:
Cannibal 7 Willpower Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (18) + 1 = 19
Cannibal 8 Willpower Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 = 8 Failed
Cannibal 11 Willpower Save 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4Failed
The sleep drops 2 of the Cannibals, both of whom are also entangled.
The Red Headed leader yells out, Kill them quickly! You wake the others, they has used some kind of magic on them.
pointing at the Cannibal in M24.
The remaining Cannibals move out of the vines and brush attempting to grab them, draw Scimitars and attack screaming and yelling as they do!
One draws an AOO from Anton as he moves up K15
Two attack Anton:
Scimitar atk 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (12) + 5 = 17 dam 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10 Miss
Scimitar atk 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (1) + 5 = 6 dam 1d6 + 4 ⇒ (3) + 4 = 7 Miss
The others try to break out of the entangle:
Cannibal 1 Strength Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12 Ent.
Cannibal 2 Strength Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
Cannibal 4 Strength Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11Ent.
Cannibal 6 Strength Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (18) + 4 = 22
Cannibal 10 Strength Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (12) + 4 = 16
Cannibal 11 Strength Check 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10Ent.
Three break free and move out of the Entangle, drawing weapons as they go.
Updated Map:
Round 3 Map after Entangle and Sleep.
The Cannibals are scattered into chaos by the spells, although they seem to recover a little as some of them escape including their leader.

Niɱ |

Just wanting to check to see that you remembered that the entangled area is still considered difficult terrain for those that make their saves... a lot of them seem to have moved a long way considering the difficult terrain movement penalty. :)
And no spellcraft or perception check to realize the dropped cannibals are merely asleep? They could be paralyzed... or held... or dead... ;)

Anton Green |

Round 3, AoO
Anton takes advantage of his weapon's longer reach to swipe at one of the cannibals as he closes.
Lucerne hammer with Power Attack: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 ⇒ Miss
...for 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (7) + 4 = 11 damage.
However, it's a poor swing that is easily dodged.
Can I reach Red with the polearm next round? It looks clear to me, but I'm still not great at reading these maps.
