Where I work, conversations heading south is at least a weekly occurrence. It normally happens during staff meetings on Fridays. Same thing with my family.
I am the only grandson of four grandkids on my mother's side of the family. That also happens to be the side of the family that has men outnumbered by women on a 1 to 2 ratio when all the guys show up and only half the women. Conversations have an unfortunate habit of going into topics that I would have been happier never knowing anything about.
As one of the five women in a house of six people, I'm aware of such conversations. I feel so sorry for my mother's fiancé...
It kind of hard to get into the character at the moment as far as I am concerned; seems I overtook myself after I was rejected to a group to which one with a very similar build was accepted.
Now I am in four groups here, have an application running in a fifth and have three additional groups in a German language forum, even though two of them are either declaredly ending or silently dying out.

On a different topic: While it is common here to write in present I am used to write in preterite otherwise and use more inner reflection, which is simpler in the past. In the German language forums I usually post it's extremely the vast majority of posts are above 300 words or so (e.g. The Night Below as Meleanda Silverthorn)... My favourite campaign here - which used somewhat shorter ways of expressing onesself, but not quite as short as most - has been a Kingmaker Campaign where I posted as Shalira Lebeda. Unfortunately it ended when the GM suddenly disappeared. I am not so sure whether that is even welcome here; I might as well restraint from using inner reflection at all.
Hey, DM. I have a couple of questions for you regarding the interpretation of Helena's oracle curse.
Your eyes are obscured, making it difficult for you to see. You cannot see anything beyond 30 feet, but you can see as if you had darkvision.
1. Would this mean that Helena literally cannot see anything beyond 30 feet? As in, her vision ends at the edges of a 30-foot sphere? Or would everything beyond that point just be far too blurry and indistinct to make out?
2. As darkvision is black-and-white, does this mean she has complete monochromacy, unable to distinguish colours at all and seeing the entire world in shades of grey? Or would that only occur when darkvision would normally be in effect, ie, in the absence of light?
I realize that either way, it doesn't make a lot of difference. I'm just curious as to how you'd interpret the wording. =)
Also, if it's not too late, I'd like to swap out a skill point - spellcraft for linguistics, to gain Sylvan as a language. It works with the backstory, which I'm still working on. Life's been dragging me down lately.
No worries about real life dragging you down. I'm still getting settled in my new place, though I am fairly well settled at this point.

I think too blurry would work better, and I think having it only be monochrome when darkvision would take effect is fine.

Hey GM, I don't think I mentioned this earlier, but I'm going in for surgery the day after tomorrow. Nothing major, just having some teeth pulled, but since I'll be under a general anaesthetic (and it's a total of eight teeth, including all four wisdoms), I'll be pretty groggy and out of it for some time. I might still post, but just in case I don't, I'll put up a list of standard actions she's likely to take and include it in the profile. That ok?
Yup. Make sure you get video of afterwards. I apparently was a hoot when I had my wisdom teeth taken out. ;)
Also let me know if the pace is okay so far. I keep worrying about being too slow.

Yeah, when I had my wisdom teeth pulled, I was going to be put under. I advised the doctor to strap me down so when I woke up mid-surgery, he wouldn't get punched. He scoffed at me, saying they had a very good anesthesiologist and I wouldn't wake up. I refused to allow them to sedate me until they had strapped me down. Later, as the doctor was hammering away with a chisel to my impacted teeth, I heard him exclaim, "Oh, s&+!! He's awake! Get him back under! Get him back under!"
In the post-op room, I remember asking for my teeth to be returned to me. When I was told it was an OSHA violation for me to get them, I reiterated my request ever louder until I was yelling at the nurse in Spanish to give me back my teeth.
Good luck on today's extractions.
Surgery update: teeth all out. Apparently I did a crocodile roll as I was waking up and yanked the needle out of my arm, so I have a nice bruise there. Mouth full of stitches, everything's bloody and very sore. Really groggy, but they gave me good drugs.
My mother's been looking after me, and my boyfriend's been great. He bought me chocolate custard so I can eat, and he's fetching me drinks and tissues. Currently snuggled down on the couch watching Black Adder.
Can't really get into character right now, but Helena will go back to the Snow Dragon's Den and rest up for the night. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow!
Glad everything went well for ya. I'll probably have to have mine out in the not-so-distant future. Dentist originally said they'd be fine to stay in, but recently one's been giving me trouble every now and again. Stupid human body.

Ooof. That required quite some number pushing now.
I've been a bit sloppy with the equipment of Rayla when I created her. Barbarian kit, scale mail, explorer's outfit, Greatsword. Curious I didn't add anything ranged, could have sworn I had a few javelins or daggers.
Well, I've broken down the barbarian kit to its components now (which strangely costs and weighs a bit more) and put it all into a spreadsheet.
She takes one of the tents, the two trail rations and water skins and a bedroll.
She doesn't need torches because she has ten anyway, someone will likely always be able to cast light and she has darkvision.
She doesn't take a winter fur, because she has a "blanket" which is a fur (and costs five times as much as a bedroll), and she has cold resistance 5.
She already has a rope and I don't see the point of taking a second, same goes for the flint and steel.
The weight totals to 130 lbs. which is still a medium load and doesn't make a difference, since she's wearing medium armor anyway.
Apologies for the lack of posting. The computer issues of two nights ago persisted throughout the night and last night was our monthly deployment which kept me busier than I expected. I am heading over to post now.

Glad you had a safe trip. I figured I'd give the party a chance to work this bit out themselves. This is fun, I didn't expect this and now I'm getting a good sense for the party's dynamics. Post in a few.

I really had to flip a mental coin on Kylar's reaction to this. My mental projection of him hadn't progressed far enough to know the answer offhand. Yay for character building!
As a footnote to that it might be worth allowing some of the group to re-pick languages to reflect Northern (Giant) being a tongue in usage more than in encounters with high level monster brutes.
Giant wouldn't have been a featured choice by (m)any but as its in usage perhaps at least Kylar might know it??
Conversely of course we have nei a clue about this Elvish and Sylvan babbling ;)
Well that's going to be problematic. since just about all the Dryad knows is Sylvan.
How does Druidic factor into this conversation? Is it related to Sylvan? Should it be? Should it be something that is strictly a secret code for druids, even one such as Björn?
