The forums must have eaten my post. Damned thing. I'll retype my IC response now.
Rayla
It seems like this games lost some of its steam. One of the PCs just took a javelin out of nowhere, and I haven't gotten one IC response, and only one OOC response. I'm wondering what I did wrong, and I'm also worried that you're bored. I'd like to continue this, but I'm not going to put time and effort into a game that no one wants to play. If everyone's busy, that's cool, and I can cool my heels for a bit, but still, when there's almost two full days that go by and I only get one OOC response, I'm wondering what I did to chase everyone off.
I am very sorry I got a bit distracted over the past few days (yesterday was my 37th birthday), but I can assure you I still really like this game would very much like to continue.
DM-Salsa
Well that's two people, and I believe that Black Dow also wants to continue, but I think he's still working out the internet issues at his place. I haven't heard anything from Delilah, and I'll be PMing her tonight.
DM-Salsa
PMs sent to Kylar and Delilah. Hopefully I can get one or both of them to respond. I'll give them two or three days.
Black Dow
Still slammed at work, home interwebs are up and running again, so fingers crossed I can get something nailed down re: new character this weekend.
Am still not 100% "feeling" the new concept so might change again (sorry Salsa) - will depend how the creative juices flow...
Bear with me - still game but just drained at present, but please don't hold for me.
Helena the Pale
Hey all, just letting you know I won't be posting much for the next couple of days. Tomorrow I'm running back-to-back PFS slots at a local convention, and the day after is my birthday, so I'll have family stuff going on. Try not to move too far without me!
DM-Salsa
Okay, I believe Black Dow is putting the finishing touches on his character. As soon as he's ready, we'll throw him in the deep end with the rest of you.
On the plus side for you guys, you don't have to fight the axe-crazy rogue/sorceress I just finished making. I'll just let Ronnie(Helena) guess which of the other three games she's in is going to have to face her. :D
DM-Salsa
Just announce your at camp, how this goes is up to you and the others, minus Helena. :D
DM-Salsa
Need to do a little prep work. I'll try to have that done tonight, but no guarantees.
DM-Salsa
Couple of announcements:
I've gotten the itch to run Jade Regent, and I'm keeping the recruitment pool to anyone who's in one of my games. I'm looking for four more players. I'll be posting a link to the recruitment thread in a little bit.
I was at a Bible study tonight, and that will probably be taking up my Wednesday nights for the foreseeable future. Just a heads up.
Helena the Pale
Bible study? Now that's an interesting pasttime. What brought it on?
(Disclaimer: I don't mean to offend, I'm just curious. I also have a habit of asking people why they choose to be vegetarian for the same reasons, though I've been yelled at and lectured many times for that one...)
AdamWarnock
No offense taken. I grew up going to church and I got out of the habit when I was in college. I tend to be a recluse as well, and I am trying to change that. One of the core things about being a Christian, at least as I was taught, is fellowship and studying His word, the Bible, together, so going to a Bible study kills a flock of birds with one stone. I get out of the house, I'm around other people, and I'm rebuilding my relationship with God.
That and my friend has been trying to get me to go for the past six months. :X
And I'm with you on the vegetarian thing. There's got to be some kinda meat that you like. There's too many tasty animals out there for that not to be the case. :D
Helena the Pale
One of the icons of Australia is the kangaroo. People think Australia, they think of roos. We won't think twice about throwing that f@%%er on the barbecue. Kangaroo is one of the most delicious meats I've ever tasted. Imagine roasting a bald eagle - okay, probably a different thing, since they're endangered and kangaroos are bloody everywhere... But still. I'm from a country that will gladly eat it's fauna emblem, as a steak, in a burger, in a stir fry, whatever. Kangaroo is awesome, I grew up a meat eater, and I've asked what I thought was an innocent question enough times that I've lost friends over it. (One of my best friends called me a monster to my face because I was wearing the leather jacket my nana left me when she'd died of cancer the year before. That hurt.)
As for Bible study - I always find it interesting listening to other people talk about their faith, because I'm not a religious person. I was christened Church of England, like my father (mum was baptized Mormon), but I've only been to church once. I've been to Temple with my mum a couple of times, and I'll gladly chat with the missionaries when she has them over. (Sidenote - I've never met a Mormon who wasn't polite, soft-spoken, honest, and a genuinely nice person.) I was drawn to paganism and witchcraft for a while in my teen years, but I think I just liked the idea of the rituals of 'spellcasting' more than anything else. Having to set it all up with different oils and candles and having to walk clockwise x amount of times to close the circle... It appealed to my Aspie needs, the need for ritual and routine.
Getting out of the house is always a healthy thing, so that's good. And I can't say whether rebuilding your relationship with God is a good thing, since it's not something I've ever considered - plus, it's all up to you, really. I guess, if you feel it's good, then it's good. :-) (Yeah, that's a bit roundabout, but it stands.)
(This has been another one of Ronnie's 2 am rants!)
AdamWarnock
If I ever get the chance, I'll definitely give Kangaroo a try. :D
To be honest, I think Bald Eagle would probably be too gamey to taste all that good, and as you said, they're an endangered species. And that whole leather jacket thing, just wow. (Personally, I've always wanted a WWII style airman's jacket, so that may be coloring my thinking just a bit.) It's not like you butchered a small family for that jacket.
As for everything else, I've been friends with people from different backgrounds, and I've had to learn the hard way how to be a good witness and how to not be a good witness. I am an opinionated person and I have had to mature to the point that I don't jump into every religious debate with fists swinging.
On the other hand, I've been drifting for a while now. I don't really know what I'm supposed to do, or even what I want to do, with my life, and, well, as cheesy as it sounds, God's always been there for me. The wreck I had back in July proved that to me without a doubt. We're called to step out in faith, to trust Him and to trust that He won't lead us astray. So, in a way, I'm stepping out in faith, and I'm trusting God to lead me to be a better person than I am.
(Sorry if that was a little rambley. ^^; But I hope I was able to explain it a little more.)
Helena the Pale
It's unlikely you'll be able to find it in the US, but if you ever come across it, definitely try it. =) Protip: don't cook it above medium. The rarer, the better. (Also try Vegemite if you see it, but don't spread it thick. A thin smear across rye toast is best, as it has a very strong flavour.)
You did a good job of explaining it, don't worry. I definitely get where you're coming from. =) I know what you mean about drifting, though... I wrapped up my BVA in December 2012, and haven't found a job yet. I volunteer two days a week, but for now, I'm on unemployment benefits starting to go crazy. I don't know what I'm doing, either =( So if getting back in touch with your faith is helping you, then go for it, and I'm glad you have it. =)
AdamWarnock
I kinda figured that. I'll just have to save up and plan a trip. Most of the time I like my steaks medium to medium-well, but I sometimes like to try something a little closer to mooing. :D I shouldn't have an issue with rye bread, but the Vegemite is going to be a bit trickier.
Hmm, what does Vegemite taste like anyway?
Helena the Pale
Trust me, kangaroo goes too chewy if you cook it above medium. I like it medium-rare. My local pub cooks it rare on a bed of sweet potato mash with sweet chili plum sauce, and it tastes fantastic. If you ever make your way to SA, I'll shout you a roo steak.
Vegemite is... hard to describe. It's a fermented yeast paste, so it tastes yeasty, salty, mixed with vegetable poils and spices... It tastes like Vegemite. *shrug* I just took to The Google to see how others were describing it, and found nothing but hate, which was disheartening. The main description seems to be salty, with a recommendatin to try it with something else. Vegemite on crackers with cheese and tomato is a classic, and I'm quite fond of Vegemite and grilled cheese on toast. Aussie kids commonly cut dry Weet-bix in half and spread them with butter and Vegemite, as well.
Don't be surprised if you ever try it and hate it. Apparently you need to have it as a kid - which explains why Aussies love it, as we're practically weaned on the stuff.

Apologies for my spotting posting record in the last couple weeks. I'm getting crushed under a multitude of responsibilities right now. But I am still here and have no intention of dropping out so long as I'm not being unduly frustrating to the other players.
Helena the Pale
I'm just slightly impatient in general. There isn't much more for me to do at this stage; I'm a waiting damsel in distress. :P
DM-Salsa
Sorry, no post tonight. Some things have come up and I won't be posting as often. I'll try to have something up tomorrow.
That said, don't worry. I'm going to be working my way through it. It has nothing to do with anyone but myself, and it's just some stupid, stupid crap catching up to me. Hopefully, by year's end, this will only be a learning experience and not the crisis I was afraid I was going to have.
Helena the Pale
Taking care of yourself is the most important thing, Salsa. I hope everything's alright.
DM-Salsa
No problem. At the rate I'm going, it may be that long before you have to post again.
DM-Salsa
Yes it is, I didn't catch that, but I think Bugbears have an AC of 17.
I have a game in need of some new players. It's meant to be silly and I understand not everyone's like that style game. If you're interested, post your concept in this thread. The current party has:
A Faen Sorceress
A Half-orc Barbarian
A Kitsune Skald
and
A Drow Oracle (GMPC, I can easily replace her. ;D)
Before you read any further, please note that this is going to be silly. This isn't a self-deprecation, but the point of the entire adventure. If you are looking for a place to play that dark brooding assassin your GM forbade, seriously, then I'm afraid that this isn't for you. If you're looking to play him up to comedic levels of GrimDark, Blood-bathed, over-the-top shenanigans, however, this still might not be your campaign, but apply anyway, I'll be the judge. :D
Now, this is supposed to be a dungeon crawly type game with lots of Role-playing and other shenanigans. That means classes that do well in confined spaces are your best bet, although it could be fun to try and be the knight on a white horse, just don't expect to be able to ride much.
Character creation:
Level 1
Roll 4d6 drop lowest six times for stats.
-Reroll if you have less than a 20 point buy
-Reroll if more than one stat is below 8.
Don't worry about starting equipment.
Three traits and one drawback.
No Evil, period.
Any class is allowed (save no Anti-Paladin)
Any race that uses class levels for hit-dice is allowed.
Submission:
Full stats, save equipment
Your character's background
Your character's personality
Your character's appearance
A few things that sets them on edge.
A few things that makes them go all gooey.
A quirk or two that they have.
Addendum:
I am allowing races from Heroes of the Jade Oath.
I'll be trawling my other games for players as well, so please, only post in one thread if you are in more than one of my games.
Rayla
Maybe it got a little lost, but I was asking for a more detailed description of what we see:
She tries to assess how many enemies there may be of what kind - gobloids and bugbears like the ones they've met or others? And how many there are by the amount of fires tents. She also tries to make a reasonable guess who may have build the tower - whether it is goblinoid arcitecture or, for example, the leftovers of some wizard tower and whether its foundation touches the rocks of the cave system, so that there is an indication they might be connected. Are there any guards or patrols?
DM-Salsa
Sorry, been busy lately and it did get lost. I'll be posting something more detailed soon.
Rayla
Well, if no one is interested in scouting making a camp is alright as far as I am concerned, if only due to a lack of a better idea. I think with that kind of forces a frontal assault would be unwise.
We just have to figure out what we do then.
The most obvious choices would be either to create a distraction and enter or to sneak in. Beyond that there might be a way to lure them elsewhere, so they can't attack us all at once and we have a tactical advantage. The cave seems more interesting than the tower (since, while it evidently has a top for guards to stand on, it was described as ruined), though both may or may not be connected.
What puzzles me is that the enemy was described as "bandits"... sounds as though they were human or so, not goblin. That would make it more difficult, I suppose we'll have to have a closer look for that.
DM-Salsa
It is ruined, the bandits just put in some make-shift platforms so they had a good place to post some guards.
How effective it is in practice will be seen when you guys start probing the camps defenses.
Osmær Aulderwald
My thinking - reflected in my in-game post, is that Os would best be served in guerrilla style tactics - shoot and run. His class abilities of Focused Enemy grants him +2 to hit and damage against Humans (if indeed they are human) - means each shot from his bow will be at +6 to hit and 1d8+2 damage. His decent Stealth +7 means he can shift and move through the forest whilst providing ranged support?
At the very least plugging a few might draw them to us (or the waiting arms of our heavy hitters and casters??)
My 2 runes worth...
Rayla
Well, Rayla hits pretty hard (if she doesn't roll a four and a six, as in the last fight), but she doesn't really do ranged. The only thing she could throw that she has is a masterwork dagger we found earlier.
So what? Wait for a patrols where we have an escape router through a river or so and see how fast they react? Or try laying a fire nearby - at best in a fashion that the tower is downwind so it gets clouded in smoke and then attack from the other side?
DM-Salsa
No map tonight. Apparently I have been abusing Charter's Network with an Open DNS server.
Funny thing is, I don't remember setting up a DNS server, so now I have to find out why the got the silly idea that I have one in the first place.
Helena the Pale
To weigh in, Helena can't see further than 30 feet, which means she's completely useless at range. And for casting, she's far more of a support role - healing and buffing, all the way. Not to mention still pretty shaken up from her ordeal with the bugbear. So she'll leave the planning to those more capable.
Damn, Salsa. That sounds like fun. :/
AdamWarnock
I think I'm going to have to shell out for a new router, which makes me more than a little upset since I think I've finally gotten a handle on my finances, and I don't have the money to pay for a new one.
Also doesn't help that I found a post on Securifi's forums about this that was posted back in january and I have the latest firmware and it still doesn't fix the issue.
A warning to all of you that are looking for a router, stay away from the Almond, and Almond+, and anything else Securifi makes. Just because it's easy to set up, doesn't mean that it's set up right, even if you follow the directions.
That said, I'll be looking for a new router if anyone has any suggestions.
