Sadly, despite freeing captured envoys, the faction missions in this one were Qadiran, Osirion and Grand Lodge.
I expect this combat to go very quickly with this group (and we're doing the 4-player adjustment even despite having 5 players, something else I wish we could also control).
Feel free to private message me your PFS IDs ahead of time and I can start preparing chronicles. For those of you who have played with me before, I already have them and would only need to know if they've changed for some reason...

I received your ID, I have everyone's now.
I noticed you tried to roll a day job in the PM, but the dice roller doesn't run in the private message system.
I'll ask for Day Job rolls in the thread once we're really done, so you can roll there once we're all wrapped up.
There'll be some other stuff to roll on, too. :)

Congratulations on besting Glass River Rescue!
Once you see this message, please post in this thread in this order:
1) A single 1d20 roll labeled "Boon".
2) Your day job roll, if any.
This is from an email I received...
At the conclusion of each game, the GM and the players will all roll a raw d20 in the virtual presence of the GM, only at the time the GM indicates, and in the game thread. (Alternatively the GM is allowed to roll for all the players as a public list of rolls on the Forum they are running the game in, instead of allowing the players to roll individually themselves.)
Anyone who rolls a natural 20 will get the boon of their choice (see selection below).
Anyone who rolls a natural 1 will get a random boon, determined by the GM rolling a d4 and matching that with the Boon number below.
(As stated above, the GM is also allowed to participate in this boon roll to also have a chance to win a boon in each game.)
** The post with the boon rolls should not be edited after the initial roll is made. **
Boon selection:
Boon 1:
Lingering Resonance: A recent encounter with an enemy spellcaster left your body strangely receptive to spell effects. At the beginning of a scenario, you may announce that you are using this boon. The next time that you fail a saving throw against any spell or spell-like ability from an enemy spellcaster, have your GM write the name of the spell below. Choose one of the following benefits, and cross the other off your Chronicle sheet.
• When you cast the listed spell, you may increase the DC of the saving throw by 2.
• When you roll a saving throw against the listed spell, you gain a +4 bonus on the save.
You may use this bonus once for free, after which you should check the box below; each additional use of the selected benefit costs 1 Prestige Point.
Boon 2:
Long Distance Support: You heard the Decemvirate’s call to arms as the Fifth Crusade began, but for whatever reason the society did not send you to the front lines immediately. You may nonetheless send extra supplies to aid your fellow Pathfinders. At the end of any scenario that does not take place in Mendev or the Worldwound, you may choose to spend 1 Prestige Point to send a cache of necessary supplies north to aid the war effort. On a line below, have your GM record where the scenario took place and initial the entry. Upon filling all five lines, you gain two benefits.
First, you gain a Mendevian Commendation for your tireless efforts to supply the crusade. A Mendevian Commendation grants you a cumulative +1 bonus on Charisma-based skill checks to influence Mendevian Crusaders (maximum +3).
Second, as a swift action while fighting a creature with the demon subtype or bearing an unholy symbol of a demon lord, you may grant all allies that you can see within 60 feet a +2 circumstance bonus on attack rolls, damage rolls, and saving throws against those creatures for one minute. When you use this second ability, cross it off your Chronicle sheet.
Boon 3:
Mendevian Weapon Training: Queen Galfrey of Mendev understands both that poorly equipped crusaders are of little use to the ongoing war against demonkind and that an inadequately trained crusader cannot make effective use of good equipment. As a result, those who dedicate themselves to the Fifth Crusade have access to training and equipment that might not otherwise be available. When you would be permitted a Day Job check, you may instead spend 4 Prestige Points to receive intensive training with a specific weapon or suit of armor. You receive a masterwork version of the weapon or armor, and you gain proficiency in that specific weapon or armor (but not others of its type). If you are already proficient with the selected armor or weapon, you instead gain a +2 bonus to CMD against disarm and sunder combat maneuvers targeting the chosen item.
Choose the weapon or armor from the following list: breastplate, glaive, heavy shield, or longsword.
Boon 4:
Moment of Glory: Whether it is by fate, fortune, or circumstance, you are able to tap into a hidden reserve of power at just the right moment to perform a truly extraordinary feat. By activating this boon as a free action, you become a mythic character (1st mythic tier) for 3 rounds. If you fall unconscious due to hit point loss during this time, you automatically stabilize without needing to attempt a Constitution check. In addition, once before this effect ends, you may use the surge mythic ability to increase any d20 roll you just made by rolling 1d6 and adding it to the result. Using the surge is an immediate action taken after the result of the original roll is revealed. This can change the outcome of the roll.
When you use this boon, cross it off your Chronicle sheet; however, anytime you successfully complete (earning the maximum possible number of Prestige Points) a scenario that using the “hard mode” option, you may have the GM sign this boon. You may use this boon one additional time for each such signature you receive.

Chronicles should be sent to Damvorak, Sad Rock and Ramli.
I'll need Ugnoth and Alaric to PM me their email addresses so I can send those out after day job rolls (if any).
As for the chronicle, unfortunately you guys didn't make the secondary success condition on this one, which required one of these to swing your way:
1. Successfully beating Addas's Sense Motive (1d20+8) with a Bluff about why you are at their inn. Ramli attempted that here.
2. Successfully finding incriminating evidence about the Pathfinder society by searching the prison cell room. I applied Ugnoth's roll here and also made a roll for Alaric here to try to beat the DC20 check.
I'm not sure I'm a fan of the way the secondary success condition is defined on this scenario, but I figure it's better to run it as written and let you guys voice any objections when you socialize with PFS bigwigs about how this system is less awesome than individual faction missions. :)

My paperwork for the game is submitted - it's now on the PFS PbP VO to get it actually submitted to Paizo.
I believe some folks leveled?
I'm good to keep this going if you guys want to tackle another scenario. I believe our benchmark is finishing them every 4-6 weeks.
The captain of the Abacus can sail you to the River Kingdoms if you desire and wish to tackle a level of the ancient Azlanti dungeon known as Thornkeep (which is a 1-2 good for a full 3XP that could propel this group into a more interesting/challenging subtier). I'd of course give Thorel a chance to return, which I imagine ze'd be free in a week or so.

Ramli leveled. I like the idea of having a non-first-level character, but I just wish I was more excited about him. I don't think he's quite playing out the way I envisioned. I can still do a complete revamp of him before I level, right? I'm wondering if he might work better as a magus...
Or if I could just come up with some other better idea that I really liked.

I'll review where Sad is this weekend.
I like this group, but we did have some notable absences *cough* Rumknee *cough* Cowlick *cough* that made it less good and cohesive than it could have been.
In theory, future runs won't have the same issue. I'm up for whatever, pretty much, and can recruit other yahoos if we need to find more players.

[Sarcasm]What, no PFS during your nuptuals? What kind of gamer are you? I was posting Wednesday while in the woods on a boar hunt.[/sarcasm]
But no, seriously I was though....just saying.
Im down to continue.. .just cant play anymore thornkeep...unless everyone is set on that and Ill burn my last star.
| DM Panic |
Yep, I know when everyone's around, you guys all fire on all cylinders.
Damvorak and SR have played almost every low level scenario prior to season 4.
Looking at season 5, there's Library of the Lion, which runs fairly effortlessly as a PbP. I forget about who has played Confirmation. There's Horn of Aroden, but I *think* that might be a sequel for Library, although it's not clear from the description.
Crypt of the Everflame is Thornkeep-like if that's still a green field?

I like the idea of tackling Thornkeep but if that doesn't suit the rest of the group I'd vote for Everflame. I've yet to play it and expect it'd be somewhat more challenging than the PFS scenarios I've experienced. My work is coming along no more swiftly and things are beginning to look a little dire, but I thought I'd check in gradually to all of my games. I've taken a minute or three to level Alaric up and I'll make an honest commitment to check in daily. Thanks for being understanding folks. I'll make an honest commitment to check in every other day, I don't want to spoil another scenario with any long absences.

I'm happy to do whatever. I'll upgrade Ramli, I think, since I'd enjoy playing second. Not 100 percent sure if he'll be a magus or sorcerer, though. I like the idea of actually having a third-level character too!
Hopefully I can get his personality down a little more to what I want it to be with some more playing time.
Ramli Il-Bahr.

OK, I think I've got Ramli remade now. I've got some spare cash from previous adventures, so I'd like to spend that.
I'm going to spend 375 on the 25-charge wand of CLW from GRR. Am I correct that I can upgrade to MW weapons even if they're not on a chronicle? If so, I think I'll upgrade my armor and quarterstaff, which should be 475 gp (bringing total expenses to 850 gp).
| DM Panic |
I think the rules for upgrading a non-masterwork to a masterwork weapon are a bit complex? They involve casting the Masterwork Transformation spell.
Although because you haven't played your first scenario at 2nd level, you can just sell your non-masterwork weapon for full value, and buy the masterwork one.
Masterwork weapons and armor (and +1 as well) are "always available" regardless of your Fame.
Ramli Il-Bahr.
|
Yeah, that was my thought, to just sell and buy new ones. OK, I'll sell the quarterstaff for full value instead of half ... which is sadly still 0. :) Though I assume I can also do the same with my armor, which will actually save me a little gold?
Upgrades coming online.

Point of note since it has come up at a few PFS game days locally and in Jacksonville...
Ability Damage in Pathfinder works differently than 3.5 (hence the issues), in Pathfinder you take a -1 penalty for every 2 points of damage regardless of starting statistic.
Unlike 3.x which reduced the effective stat immediately.
Just a heads up in case.

Ability Score Damage, Penalty, and Drain
Diseases, poisons, spells, and other abilities can all deal damage directly to your ability scores. This damage does not actually reduce an ability, but it does apply a penalty to the skills and statistics that are based on that ability.
For every 2 points of damage you take to a single ability, apply a –1 penalty to skills and statistics listed with the relevant ability. If the amount of ability damage you have taken equals or exceeds your ability score, you immediately fall unconscious until the damage is less than your ability score. The only exception to this is your Constitution score. If the damage to your Constitution is equal to or greater than your Constitution score, you die. Unless otherwise noted, damage to your ability scores is healed at the rate of 1 per day to each ability score that has been damaged. Ability damage can be healed through the use of spells, such as lesser restoration.

I may be a little lax in posting for the next couple days -- busy day today, trip to NYC tomorrow and then I'm getting my eyes dilated (for the first time) Monday, so I don't know what effect that'll have.

Hey, if we're looking to continue our PFS adventures after this dungeon I'd like to put in a word for CursedFrogurt who's been a marvellous roleplay partner for several sessions until our group disbanded. Milo and Archibald are both looking for a new home. Does anybody know of any PFS games that are recruiting? Or could we make room for him in the future?
Also I should probably thank our tireless GM for how impeccably quick our PFS games have been running. At first I was lukewarm on the scenarios because they didnt seem to have much depth, but they've turned into the first thread I leap to in my PbP circuit. There's always a challenging combat, great hook, terrifying trap or brilliant banter waiting for me.
| DM Panic |
In my opinion, you'll start to find more challenging combat once you guys hit level 3. I've always been lukewarm on PFS in the level 1-2 range, barring a few exceptional scenarios (although God's Market Gamble was one of the more deadly ones at the 1-2 subtier).
And to be fair, Crypt of the Everflame is a full module (although a bit of a dungeon crawl) and not a true scenario (and thus why it gives a full 3XP instead of 1XP in PFS rules).
As a GM, it's nice to run scenarios/modules since it doesn't have the same multi-year commitment as starting up an AP does. Since I'm expecting my first child come September, I may need to relax on the GM reins a bit at that time... as I have no idea what parenthood will due to my bandwidth until I see it firsthand. :)
(Oh yeah, and in the case I do start something else, absolutely Frogurt can be in the loop)

Just FYI, this is a really busy week for me, so not sure what my posting rate will be like through Monday. It's easier to post in games I'm playing, rather than running, so I doubt I'll miss anything, but if I'm holding things up, please feel free to DMPC me.
