Bethany Carpenter |
Bethany smiles at the sound of the coins. You would be happy with this much at least dad.
"A little rest in down would be good. We got stabbed and bit and everything else. Someone even fell in a pit! Don't worry we left it open."
For once she did not mention the pit as a rib on Grilnik, more that whoever else goes in should be aware.
Grilnik Urist |
Diplomacy?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (1) + 3 = 4 WELP
"Oh yeah, I don't remember seeing that pit on the way out...
oh, and Vors, do you still have that necklace from the bird? If I remember right it had some sort of protective magic."
Grilnik says as he retrieves Hunclay's steel key and the bedroom key ring from his pouch.
"We also found some house keys that your clerks will definitely find helpful." he adds after jingling the key ring and placing both that and the steel key on the table.
"There was also a prisoner, Maffei, in Hunclay's mansion. He used some magic that sucked some life out of her. Could someone in town heal her?"
DM Nex |
Looking somewhat agast, "A prisoner! Oh my! I know he was up to something, but to hold a woman captive. Sadly I only have so much sway with the temples in town. They might be able to help out. Depending on the injury they might need to charge for their services."
"Thank you for the keys, this will make the process much easier"
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn smiles kindly. "Thank you. That will be most agreeable." She hands over all her notes and ledgers. "Oh, Maffei is female, I believe, but not a human woman. She's a creature from another plane. And she wasn't the only one. There were also demons, a impish creature, and a disgusting homunculus. Not to mention all the traps."
She leans back in her chair. "It was wise to hire us, Lady Baroness. I doubt any other agents you could have sent would have survived."
Grilnik Urist |
As Brynn points out how much they overcame to complete the contract, Grilnik simply smiles and enjoys another sip of Lady Origena's wine.
It's not vainglory if we did it ourselves.
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik enjoys his alcohol a few moments more before speaking up again.
"To be fair, we're new in town as well. Our trip was just a bit shorter. She seems honorable at least. You have our thanks for your seemingly boundless generosity, Lady Origena. We'll see about Maffei tomorrow..."
Grilnik looks to the others as he takes another sip of wine.
I wonder if we should excuse ourselves soon... when does that herbalist close shop...?
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn finishes her wine, then smiles and stands. "We should be going. Thank you for your hospitality. Don't hesitate to call on us if you need anything else."
She gives the woman a curtsy and heads on outside.
"Well, let's turn in these herbs to the herbalist, shall we?"
Vors Orcblood |
1 person marked this as a favorite. |
Vors quickly finishes his wine, setting down the goblet.
"Lady Origena, always a pleasure", the half-orc said with a flirty wink.
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (19) + 11 = 30
DM Nex |
A bit shocked at Vors' reaction, she is a bit taken aback.
You are eventually walked out. At this point it is starting to get later, if you wanted to drop by the herbalist quicky you should catch them before they open..
Assumed you go that route
As you get to the Herbalist, she is closing up shop, but you catch her.
"Ah you all. You find what I asked?"
Bethany Carpenter |
Bethany follows behind the other as they go to what is sure to be a boring stop at the herbalist. To keep occupied she keeps reliving the various fights in her mind and occasionally makes a WHAP or POW noise under her breath.
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik carefully unwraps the bundle of herbs, saying "glad we caught you before closing, here are the misplaced herbs."
Grilnik holds out the bundle, offering it to the old woman.
Grilnik Urist |
It seems to be Grinlik's turn to be taken aback this time, as he can't seem to speak for a few moments.
...more like mum than I thought...
Anyone else want to pipe up before Grilnik recovers from the surprise quest reward? xD
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn smiles sweetly as she reaches out to take the reward. "Why, you are very welcome, ma'am. Have a good evening."
Brynn gives the woman a curtsy, then turns and begins to saunter off for the inn before the herbalist can change her mind...
DM Nex |
"Evening to you all as well" Then continues to close up shop for the night.
So the evening is yours. In a month's time the auction is going on, with a variety of options.
What do you all do in that month?
Please a post from everyone with your plans. Nothing really happens during that time, so just let me know what you would like to do and we can talk about how to go about doing it. Then once we are done we can all meet back up for the auction
Bethany Carpenter |
Wow a month. Can Bethany find work as a carpenter or guard or something to make a little money? She isn't a cratfter and certainly cannot head home yet.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn spends her time flirting with the attractive locals, putting on exciting acrobatic archery performances, and generally enjoying being well-liked and famous in a small town. She does her best to cultivate an image of a kind, friendly, talented woman.
We also have to find out about what happened to Kells, and get Maffei healed. Also, can anyone in town make magical armour or weapons?
Grilnik Urist |
step 1: commission new gold/platinum holy symbol
step 2: ???
step 3: profit!
.
On a more serious note: training HPz x4 or x5? :D
Also what Brynn said about the Kells and Maffei xD
Bullseye Brynn |
The next morning, Brynn studies her spellbook at a bright and sunny table in the common room of the inn. She eats toast with fresh raspberry jam for breakfast, and a cup of hot tea. By the time she's finished preparing her spells it's around the time most people arrive for breakfast. She smiles and makes small talk while she waits for her 'companions' to arrive downstairs.
They were supposed to see to Maffei's wounds today. Brynn didn't want to spend good coin on the creature -- they had saved her! Surely her freedom and her life were enough? But still.... Something about Lady Origena's attitude toward Maffei hadn't sat well with the magus.
Was it the distrust? She didn't think so. She didn't trust anyone, so why would she care if some rich noble got along with a weird shadow freak?
Was it the underlying racial tension? No, that couldn't be it! Brynn didn't give a sh** about the rights of outsiders. She was human. The whole damned world was made for her. How other people got along in the world was their own business.
Brynn resisted the urge to shift uncomfortably as she sipped at her tea. She was wealthy and well-liked in town. That's all she wanted. She should be happy.
She was happy.
So, what the heck was wrong...?
Damned outsiders.
Brynn couldn't wait to get rid of her.
Vors Orcblood |
The next morning, Vors says his morning prayers to Cayden Cailean, gets dressed and ready to the day. Coming down stairs, the half-orc sees the magus sipping some tea.
Oh great. HER. Vors thought. Why couldn't it have been the other two?!
Deciding to at least be friendly, Vors sits down in an adjacent table, leans over and greets the archer.
"Morning. Sleep well?"
Bullseye Brynn |
Ugh. I hope he chokes on his breakfast.
Brynn smiles sweetly. "I did, thank you, Vors. And you? Sweet dreams?"
She takes another sip of her tea and crosses her legs. "After we bid farewell to Maffei, will you be staying around town?" she enquires.
I'll be happy if I never see you again.
Vors Orcblood |
Vors ponders the question. "I don't know. Belhaim is quite welcoming, a lot nicer than most of Taldor. But other than 'opener-of-wizard's-towers' or kobold extermination, I don't think there's much I can do here."
"Speaking of Maffei, go any ideas on how to help her?"
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn shakes her head. "Unfortunately, I don't. Healing magic, particularly ones so potent, are outside my realm of expertise." She pauses for a moment, and gives a pleasant smile to an attractive fellow at a nearby table. Then she turns back to Vors. "I had hoped that one of you could pray for the right divine spells to have her healed. If not, we'll have to stop by one of the churches. The temple of Shelyn is probably a better choice." She gives Vors a dimpled smile. "I like the view."
Grilnik Urist |
Grilnik returns from his early morning jog and meditation just in time to hear "I like the view", and he decides to sit down between Brynn and Vors.
"What's this about a view? Weren't we helping Maffei today? I've already been granted new power after my morning prayers, so we can go after we've all eaten."
And maybe we can grab a snack for Maffei too... does she eat?
Vors Orcblood |
"You know, I've been thinking", Vors interjected. "I'd like to use some of my share of the reward to get Maffei the healing she needs. So after breakfast, I'd like to go visit one of the local temples and get the services of a powerful cleric."
Bethany Carpenter |
In the morning Bethany joins the others for breakfast, she is quieter then normal not sure what to do with herself now that the adventure is over. She listens to the conversation about healing Maffei and perks up a bit.
"The accidnental god has not given me the power to heal, really I can just hurt evil better." she shrugs "I don't mind chipping in some gold to help her get healed up." she looks at the others "Then what? I guess I could make some money as a carpenter until something better comes up. I can't go home yet."
Vors Orcblood |
"Eh, hi Nilos", Vors starts. "We could use Shelyn's assistance today. In Hunclay's Tower, we met an outsider from the Plane of Shadows named Maffei, who was injured during her imprisonment. We'd liked Shelyn's help in restoring her essence, several casting of powerful restoration magic might do the trick. Do you have anyone here in the temple who can help us?"
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (6) + 11 = 17
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn gives Nilos a sweet smile. "Good morning, Nilos. We have a friend of rather... eccentric origin who is in need of powerful restorative magic. She's in rough shape. Would someone be willing to come with us to heal her? Her appearance can be rather... startling."
Bullseye Brynn |
Oooh! You beat me by a few seconds! Haha.
DM Nex |
A marked surprise at the mention of the Plane of Shadow "Oh my, Plane of Shadow.. Scary place. Well as for restoration magic. I have access to a few spells, but it depends on the strength of the spell required. I do have a wand of Lesser Restoration available. Is this the level of power you need? Beyond that I am sorry to say I doubt anyone in this town can beat that..... he seems to glaze over a bit.
"But... hmm.. I do remember seeing some scrolls of higher level restoration powers over at the House of Abadar during one of our more civil discussions and trade of supplies. They sure pinch their coppers over there"
Grilnik Urist |
Ignoring the implication that business minded folks shouldn't try to save money in order to compete for customers, Grilnik pipes up.
"Well, we haven't tried Lesser Restoration yet; we'll be trying that first since Kurgess has blessed me with its use."
Grilnik strokes his beard thoughtfully as he continues.
"That scroll sounds like it would be a good thing to try if the magic I'm worthy to use isn't strong enough."
Grilnik starts turning to go before remembering his manners.
"Thanks for your help." He then looks to the others for confirmation to move on.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn waits for Grilnik to take the lead, since he's the one who wanted to buy some expensive scroll...
Vors Orcblood |
"Hello", Vors says, taking the lead. "We understand you have a powerful restorative scroll available for purchase, and we're interested in hearing more about it."
Diplomacy: 1d20 + 11 ⇒ (16) + 11 = 27
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn smiles and nods, as if she totally understands divine magic....
DM Nex |
"Ah yes the scrolls. Each one is 800gp. We have 3 in our collection. You may need to offer up an additional 900 gold worth of diamond dust to boost the spell contained in the scroll. A standard scroll would remove one drained from a creature. Now, sometimes you come across that drain that is so powerful it would never be removed on its own, in that case you need the extra diamond dust to remove these permanent damage. One thing to note, is you can not do that more than 1 time every 7 days or so."
After his business like monologue he looks to the group, "Does that answer your question"
Vors Orcblood |
Vors thinks while absentmindedly feeling his belt pouch. "I'll take one, then." The half-orc then proceeds to produce 800gp from his belongings.
Bullseye Brynn |
Brynn smiles sweetly, but makes no move to pull out any coin.
Character-wise Brynn's not helping, but I'm fine chipping in behind the scenes as a player. Why don't we take the 800 gp out of the 4,417 gp we have as treasure that we haven't split yet? Then everyone can chip in to heal Maffei. If not, I'll still pay 1/4 the cost (200 gp) of the scroll.
Grilnik Urist |
I'm fine either way. I get the feeling that Grilnik wont have much to spend money on anyway, except that HP "retraining"
Also: it was 17gp 1sp before the night at the inn before clearing out Hunclay's, so we just have 15gp and 1sp + bounties (4400) unsplit at the moment :P
Also <3 1 month of no rent xD
Grilnik finally gets a word in as Vors starts retrieving some of his gold. "Don't forget that Lady Origena said that she'd help a bit with Maffei's healing."
Hmmm, maybe we should've gotten a promise of help measured in gold coins ... then again I didn't know it'd be so expensive...
"Ah, and I have one other question before we go. Could I drop off nine hundred gold pieces as collateral and borrow the 900gp of gold dust? If we can heal her without the dust, I think I'd prefer coin to dust."
Grilnik starts counting out some of his share of their recent bounties.
DM Nex |
The cleric hands over one of the Scrolls of Restoration to Vors.
To the dwarf "Of course. We can hold your gold as restoration for the diamond dust. You will need to fill out this form first." He displays a small form to be filled out.
You fill the annoying form out, hand over 900gp and he gives you a back containing diamond dust.
So that is 1 scroll and a boost to make it boosted restoration
Grilnik Urist |
It's only fair to have a loan contract, but this is too much fine print, even for me.
Grilnik skims and finally signs the contract.
Handing back the form and pen, he says aloud "Thank you."
and thinks to himself
Hopefully I'll have enough power without the dust...
Grilnik turns to the others for confirmation that the whole team is ready to visit Maffei.
Grilnik Urist |
Before the group leaves the temple, Grilnik makes sure to place the sack of possibly-just-borrowed diamond dust into one of the party's spare sacks.
Carrying it over his shoulder, Grilnik comments as they pass by Greyhands (the tavern): "Thanks for volunteering to pay for the scroll, Vors. I know I didn't really ask everyone's opinion on spending some of our reward money... I just wanted to try something to help, ya know?"
Vors Orcblood |
Carrying it over his shoulder, Grilnik comments as they pass by Greyhands (the tavern): "Thanks for volunteering to pay for the scroll, Vors. I know I didn't really ask everyone's opinion on spending some of our reward money... I just wanted to try something to help, ya know?"
"It's fine, Grilnik", the half-orc shrugged at the dwarf. "I was thinking if I was trapped on another plane, I'd appreciate help from the locals...although it would depend on the 'locals'."
Feeling his much lighter purse, Vors added, "It's the caydenite thing to do."Grilnik Urist |
"Which reminds me, Beth offered 'to chip in' too. So thank you too, Beth. Let's figure out how to split the expenses later. We'll probably get some sort of refund from the mayor to account for..."
As they pass by the temple to Shelyn again, Grilnik trails off (mumbling something about it being hard to split things evenly three ways).
@everyone: feel free to RP something and/or warp us up the hill to the tower where we'll hopefully find Maffei xD
