Minor Retcon:
As Mav’s fountain of stone smashes into the drow priestess, pinning her temporarily against the ceiling of the cavern, she observes darkly, ”Smaller stone projectiles seem as effective as a single large one, despite not being as acutely pointed. I think I shall inflict some pain on that dwarf.”
/retcon
Mavarion sees how effective his strike has been against the talkative priestess, and chooses to add another to the tally she seems to keep. Her eyes widen briefly as she sees a crossbow, of all things, hurtling towards her before it strikes her square in the face! She falls in a heap, but it’s a heap levitated twenty feet off the cavern floor. Her grip on the slender, silvery rod in her hand loosens and it falls to the stone floor, clattering loudly amongst the stalactites a moment before falling silent. The drow, in fact, does not have much to say.
I believe her levitate spell will persist for the duration, though she can be brought down to the floor by means telekinetic and otherwise. Sound reasonable?
Round 4 Initiative:
Hassam
Liam
Babau (yellow): -17
Mavarion
Hrolf
Hassam and Hrolf are up.
Hassam al-Rashid |
Hassam smiles at Mavarion, steps back and dances with the Babau.
"Well done Pathfinders, we've got them on the ropes now!"
Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (7) + 17 = 24
damage: 1d8 + 22 ⇒ (7) + 22 = 29
Haste Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (19) + 17 = 36
damage: 1d8 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23
Iterative Attack: 1d20 + 17 ⇒ (9) + 17 = 26
damage: 1d8 + 22 ⇒ (1) + 22 = 23
DM Khel |
All of Hassam's attacks connect, wounding the babau gravely! The Pathfinders' ears perk up, expecting more dark commentary, but the silence serves as a pleasant reminder that the morbid priestess currently floats, unconscious or dead, just below the ceiling.
Babau: -62 hp
Hrolf 'Beastheart' Hakonson |
Finding his own demons quite useless, Hrolf summons another giant bat and sends it into the dome of darkness to aid Hassam in battling the babau.
Dire Bat Smite: 1d20 + 7 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 7 + 2 + 3 = 19
Miss: 1d100 ⇒ 8
Damage: 1d8 + 7 + 4 + 2 + 3 ⇒ (3) + 7 + 4 + 2 + 3 = 19
DM Khel |
The bat chitters in frustration as his prey proves too tough to hit!
Hrolf - low on your miss chance is good, then?
Hrolf 'Beastheart' Hakonson |
No, low is a miss.
DM Khel |
That's what I thought, it just looked like you put the miss chance first, to see if you should roll damage, and then rolled damage. Perhaps I'm reading too much into the sequence of your rolls, eh?
Hrolf 'Beastheart' Hakonson |
Typically I just post all the rolls and leave it to the GM to interpret them. That way I can reply to my own posts for ease of future posting.
DM Khel |
Oh, I've never thought of doing it that way, by replying to my own post! Will have to try it.
Also, now that the nasty woman is no longer occupying her spot in the initiative order, Liam is up.
Liam Mardon |
Now that Hassam's life is no longer in great danger, Liam will step back and smite the remaining demon.
SR: 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (11) + 10 = 21
Empowered Magic Missile!: 5d4 + 5 ⇒ (4, 2, 3, 3, 3) + 5 = 20 Have 30!
DM Khel |
Liam’s bolts of force blast across the battlefield, striking the babau one after another! The demon fiercely keeps his feet as he’s hit over and over, until the very last missile proves too much for him and he falls!
After a minute or so, the body of Inexora, demonic apostle of Shax, floats to the ground. A quick search of her person reveals that she carried a satchel filled with ancient elven texts taken from the archive room, including the journals mentioned by Caldion, the captive elf. She also had several maps of the cave systems that connect to the tower basement as well as a very rough map of northern Avistan marked with the location of the Worldwound and multiple possible routes to get there. In addition, she carries a heavy book of her own making, filled with logs of hundreds of autopsies. Each page is covered in detailed anatomical drawings, many of humanoids, with copious notes on the subjects’ injuries including times and causes of death.
That’s pretty much it, I'll get a concluding post later today, after any dramatic exposition you guys want to engage in.
Hassam al-Rashid |
Hassam finds the comfiest looking rock he can, and takes a seat, exhausted from the fighting.
He'll look himself over, carefully cleaning any wounds he finds to help prevent infection and smiles at his companions, glad that they managed to keep him alive through that harrowing event.
Mavarion |
Mavarion leafs through the books and maps. "This is not pleasant reading, nor is it for the faint of heart," he declares. "Hopefully with the defeat of this foolish priestess the rest will decide against interfering with our search."
Liam Mardon |
"Good work. Praise be Razmir." Liam states once the last demon has been smited.
Hrolf 'Beastheart' Hakonson |
Hrolf recalls the useless demons to their inky prison within his flesh and joins Mavarion is looking through the books. "Let's see what that witch was so eager to kill for."
DM Khel |
Victorious in a challenging fight, the Pathfinders return to the surface, bringing a grateful Caldion back out into the open air, where he expresses his gratitude once again and heads off to rejoin his fellow Lantern-Bearers. Recovering the journals of the tower’s architect gives the Pathfinder Society greater insight into pre-Earthfall elven culture, magic, and architecture and, with Inexora’s band of drow defeated, the Velashu Uplands become slightly safer to travel, and the Pathfinder Society is able to study the ruin in relative peace and quiet.
However, not all the discoveries made in the tower are cause for celebration. In particular, on hearing the party’s report on their mission, Sheila Heidmarch finds the drow’s obsession with the Worldwound deeply concerning, and she remarks that the matter will surely require further attention from the Society.
Curtain drops. Thanks for playing!
