Dantrian, 4000gp is correct. Here's the source of the adjustment.

Also, remember that the +1 amulet will also add to your hit/damage, not just make your attacks magical for DR. That's always helpful and can later be upgraded, so it might be a good investment now. Besides, keen and spell-storing are more fun properties to have.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Two Haversacks would be better. Cheaper, and lighter (BoH's are still pretty HEAVY) and if we were really worried about space/weight, Protable Hole.

I'm pretty sure you can get something other than a +1 for the price of a +1 amulet of natural fists. So you could magic fang, and then get an amulet of acid or whatever.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Or, give me the wand of Magic Fang, and get yourself the amulet. B'yelka is a +15 to UMD already.

Yeah, I know the amulet doesn't need the enhancement bonus to get the special quality - hence my mentioning that I'd looked at shocking or frost as alternatives.

And while the +1 to hit and damage from the amulet is nice (and indeed, every little bit adds up), I am more concerned with damage reduction sapping 5 or 10 points off each attack than I am with the extra damage per swing.

Regardless, the homunculus leaves me short of the 4k mark for the moment. I could, in theory, hire a caster in Leipstadt to pop me with magic fang and then cast permanency. That'd cost 2,975gp. Beyond that, the bodywrap of mighty strikes +1 might be the best of the attack boosting options at the moment as far as affordability goes.

---

All that being said, I think Dantrian's biggest strength is his ability to take punishment and maybe I should focus on continuing to make him better at that than at making him deal more damage per swing.

I'm wondering if something as basic as a cloak of resistance might be the better direction.

Also, I definitely want to pick up a scroll of displacement (375gp) and add that to my formula book.

I'll think on things for another day and hopefully settle on something affordable and effective.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Well, whatever you need, I am willing to support. I have ~1600 gold and not too much to spend it on. Unless I want to start saving for a Headband of CHA or a Circlet of Persuasion. Or maybe even pay to have the BP made +1...

retired (arc completed)

Ok, I think I've worked my way around to slightly less material purchases.

Starting gold: 4,907.49gp
scroll of alchemical allocation - 200gp
scroll of displacement - 375gp
potion of heroism - CL5, 750gp
Mosswick - 1,050gp

These 4 purchases leaves me with 2,532.49.

A boro bead (Lvl 2) would cost 4,000 (a future purchase) and would let me use that same potion of heroism on myself twice a day instead of once each day. Seems like a nice way to boost my to-hit and saves efficiently.

With what's left, I'm thinking Dantrian can brew some potions for folks in the party. Each of the below potions takes less than a day of work, but magic item creation still limits me to a single item/potion per day. An unhurried pace from here to the Shudderwood might afford me the ability to make a number of them.

For 25gp per potion, I can brew up potions of shield (+4 AC for 1 minute). I think Janos and Drosil would likely benefit from these the most, though the spell wouldn't stack with Drosil's buckler.
For 350gp per potion, I could do potions of barkskin at caster level 7, which would mean they'd last for 7 hours each.
Similarly to the barkskin, I can brew potions of ablative barrier as well, each of which would also last for 7 hours.

The duration of the latter two makes them really attractive in my view.

-----

On the topic of character rebuilds, I'd like to swap Blind Fight (picked up at level 3) for Extra Discovery and take enhance potion, if that meets your approval, Jelani?

-----

Janos, I think boots of friendly terrain would not be wasted money in the slightest. Perhaps Kendra got you a gift prior to our setting out for the Shudderwood? =)

And, B'yelka, I think saving your coin for a headband is also a good idea.

Female Human (Chelaxian) Bard (Diva) 8 | HP 51 | AC 19 FF 17 T13 | Saves +3/+8/+6 | Init + 8 | Percep +11

Can you potion-ize Shield?

retired (arc completed)

oui oui - it's an alchemist extract and can be potion'd.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

I think B'yelka is referring to the prohibition on making spells with a range of personal into potions. You can make an infusion of Shield, but it would still count against your extracts for the day unless I missed something.

The boots are really nice, especially considering favored terrain means Janos' spirit abilities kick in. I was going to choose forest anyway for my next level, but these still boost the bonus. The haversack is just so darn handy though.

retired (arc completed)

Dah. I have, for the last 15 years, mixed up shield and mage armor in this respect with frustrating regularity.

You guys are correct; shield cannot exist in potion form. Alas! =(

That change is fine, Dantrian.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Ok, Dantrian convinced me on the Boots of Favored Terrain (Forest). We're not really having a loot carrying problem anyhow. Janos will get a pair of the boots, giving him Favored Terrain in Forest.

Drosil's ready for prime time, I think. I ended up using his gold for a mithral chain shirt (1100gp), a mithral dagger (252gp), a +1 mithral rapier (2520gp), and a +1 buckler (1115gp). Total: 4987gp. That, plus selling his old armor, lockpicks, mw crossbow, light mace, and sap, leaves him with a touch under 150gp.

He is happy to hold on to the magical daggers for now, but if anyone wants to lay claim to them, feel free.

Any reason you're purchasing a non-magical mithral dagger when you already have a +1 mithral dagger, Dros?

For throwing; it's also a cheap way to get a masterwork dagger.

In other business, is everyone finalized with their pre-Shudderwood purchases and sales and everything? If so, I'll tally up all the sales/changes/etc, put up a summary accounting post, and update the Inventory Log.

I'd like a few confirmations that we're set before I dive in though, so if some could weigh in, that'd be appreciated. =)

So...I'm going to play Janos as not knowing Elven at all despite Pathfinder assuming his automatic knowledge from being half-elven. He never knew his father, didn't grow up in an elven community, and while he could have learned it from Alicia, I doubt it. Plus, I like the idea of him being at odds with his heritage a bit.

But if Ashen can convince him, maybe he'll eventually ask to learn it.

I had to make a couple modifications to Ashan's sheet. I forgot to correct his ain't-based skills total modifier when I nixed his Int headband. I also had t calculated in elven skill bonuses or his racial variant (which removed his immunity to sleep)

retired (arc completed)

Ashan, is your 'belt of physical prowess' a belt of giant strength or a belt of incredible dexterity? It's listed on your sheet at 4,000gp, but it looks like you have a +2 applied to both Str and Dex?

I'm presuming it was a belt of physical might initially but the change to a simpler, cheaper belt got missed when Jelani asked you to scale back your purchases.

----

I missed this earlier, but it looks like we have 1965.98 we'd set aside in the party stores for healing supplies.

Jelani, would it be alright if we also picked up 2 wands of cure light wounds back in Leipstadt? Anton has one wand of clw currently, but it only has 5 charges left. The two fresh ones could go to B'yelka and Ashan perhaps?
If so, should we keep the remainder (465.98) in the party stores or would we prefer it be distributed across the group evenly?

That's fine.

Half-Elf Spirit Ranger 8 (HP 33/68; F+8, R+8, W+4 (+1 vs. Arcane); AC 25/12/23; Perception +18, Sense Motive +2, Initiative +2)

Not relevant now, but just a reminder that Janos can use items as a 1st level Witch as well.

I say keep the extra cash in the party stores. Divided up, it's a tiny amount, but together it can buy a 1st or 2nd level scroll of Exactly what you need.

Lantern Lodge RPG Superstar 2014 Top 4

Dantrian you're totally right. It should just be Dex. I've adjusted that and Ashan's Str/damage accordingly

Solas was absolutely my inspiration for this character. He's like 80% Solas, 20% Corypheus

retired (arc completed)

Ashan's question about the horses made me realize - Anton, what types of horses did you get? I can deduct that out of the party stores too.

(B'yelka already had a horse right? So we're looking at a purchase of 4 horses?)

Horse, heavy: 200 gp
Horse, heavy (combat trained): 300 gp
Horse, light: 75 gp
Horse, light (combat trained): 110 gp
Pony: 30 gp
Pony (combat trained): 45 gp

We could get 4 heavy combat trained horses and just one wand of cure light wounds. That'd leave us with 15.98 left in the party stores.
On the other hand, 4 light combat trained horses would let us get 2 wands still and we'd have 25.98 left over.

Personally, I think the 2nd option (light, combat trained horses) is preferable.

Male Human Paladin 8 | HP 36/53 (68)| AC 18 FF 15 T13 | Saves +11/+10/+10 | Init + 4 | Percep + 2 | Dip +14 | SM +10 | KR +6 | Heal +3 | HA +7 | HePo =0

100% agree on light combat trained horses. None of us are likely to use them in battle but at least they won't bolt under duress.

retired (arc completed)

Alright. I'll add light, combat-trained horses and two full wands of cure light wounds to the inventory log in a bit. Do we have any preference as to who bears the wands?
