Travigan does not hear any sounds coming from the northern passage. Looking about the room, he and Marnos can easily this surgery is where the carrion golem from the last room was also built.
The headless hunk of flesh on the table was apparently about to be animated into another of those dead meat horrors.
There is nothing more of interest or value here in the stitchery
Travigan Frost |
"Well, I don't hear anything this way, but that doesn't mean th' black-hearted villain isn't down this way. Could just as easily be through that door though." He gestures to the unopened door and frowns, slamming a meaty fist down onto the table. "I don't care fer this game o' hide an' seek! I jus' want that fiend's head in front o' me so I can cave it in!"
DM DoctorEvil |
As Marnos cringes from the noise, Travigan wrenches open the door to what appears to be a library. Two wide, freestanding bookshelves stand in this room, the shelves filled with row upon row of tomes and scrolls.
A quick study of the tomes and titles reveals that most of these treatises are studies of necromancy or the art of crafting golems. There are also a surprisingly large number of books on diseases and plagues.
Knowledge checks on these topics using this library receive a +2 circumstance bonus in addition to that given for a normal library
Travigan Frost |
Travigan's face slackens as he realizes how much has actually been written on this necromancer's foul practice. "Who'd even write this filth? Pharasma's breath! If these books are just instructions for how to sew the dead together and bring back to some semblance o' life, I'd rather set flame to everything in here!"
Travigan Frost |
"I don't see how leavin' instructions fer how to build yer own patchwork undead beastie carries value of any sort, academic or otherwise, but I agree that th' books aren't our immediate concern. Let's find th' one who's been readin' 'em and put the twisted man in a grave o' his own."
Travigan stops off toward the north western passage at Marnos' suggestion, his growing anger at the realities of necromancy fueling his steps.
DM DoctorEvil |
Travigan leads the others into the next chamber, which holds a large four-poster bed and a simple writing desk, along with a full length mirror propped up against one earthen wall.
A single passage leads off to the east, from where a voice is heard muttering incoherently.
Who was taking the scrolls identified above? Tina?
Kalvin Theordos |
"A sword is a sword and a book is a book." Kalvin responds to the philosophical discussion. "The knowledge contained in this book can be a powerful weapon for good, if only to teach us how to better destroy these things and prevent them from rising again."
DM DoctorEvil |
The mumbling behind the door grows ominously quiet as you gather on the other side of the opening. Then suddenly, the sound of magic being cast from the other side stirs you to action.

Vreeg's Chamber - Round 1

1 Arm
The passage opens into a dry, well-kept chamber which contains a narrow bed, a relatively empty shelf containing only a few books and some bones and skulls, and a long bench. A man's torso, the chest bearing numerous tribal tattoos and with the right arm still attached, lies on this bench. The arm periodically thrashes and jerks, clutching at the air as if it were alive.
Standing on the far side of the bed is another derro, dressed in fancy magic-user robes. He shouts at you in a guttural voice, "Why you here? Rolth be angry with Vreeg about intruders. Rolth not like company when he not home! Go away bad men!"
Travigan and Crux are up first in the encounter against this little fellow.
Travigan Frost |
Seeing the young shoanti boy's corpse in the midst of being toyed with, Travigan loses his ability to find words. Struggling with anger as his face deepens to an ever darker red, he at last looses a savage bellow as he surges into the room brandishing his large hammer.

Vreeg's Chamber - Round 1 - continued
Travigan did you see the map? it is double move to get close enough for melee even if you are standing right by the door, which you weren't. You can double move, but there is no attack this round. You are still 15' away from the bad guy.
Travigan rushes into the room, seeing the derro on the far side but able to get within reach of him. He enters a fearsome rage at the sight of the fallen Shoanti lad abused in such a way.
Crux follows after the blacksmith firing from his acid wand. The glob of acid splashes against the wall behind the derro, causing no harm to anyone.
Seeing the oncoming warrior with hammer outstretched, Vreeg springs into the air, flying 10' above the heads of the party. From there, he rips something from his jacket, throwing in front of the on-rushing Travigan. The patch settles to the ground, and a human zombie springs to life where it fell.
The zombie steps forward and swings at Travigan but misses badly. "Why you not listen?" screams the little necromancer. "Vreeg have to kill you now and use you for parts, yes? Rolth not like you here. Vreeg kill you."
Marnos has a clear shot at the flying derro, but his arrow misses the target.
Tina and Kalvin are up for the good guys.

It's a range increment to throw it at the flying derro right? He is 25' away from Tina. Shouldn't that make the attack roll a 15? That's not adding anything for the 10' off the ground...
Waiting on a Kalvin post to finish the round. Will DM-PC him later today if so.
Travigan, I just took from random starting positions on the map. Even if you were near the door, you wouldn't have reached him with a 20' move action.
Kalvin Theordos |
"Focus your fire on the necromancer Trav can handle the Zombies," The Paladin shouts.
Declaring his smite on the flying Derro, Kalvin draws a javelin and moves to where he has a shot at the flying Derro.
If he can throw: 1d20 + 6 ⇒ (5) + 6 = 11 1 for Dex, 3 for BAB, 2 for Smite if applicable

Vreeg's Chamber - Round 1 - concluded
Kalvin declares Vreeg to be an enemy of the Inheritor and as such, he is filled with holy ability to smite the necromancer. Unfortunately, his first shot is still wide of the mark, the javelin clattering off the wall harmlessly.
From the work table, the animated arm strikes out blindly, at a nearby target, which happens to be the newly arrived zombie. The blind punch misses everything however.

End of Round 1
Travigan Frost |
Travigan seems intent on going after the derro and, nearly blind with fury, is caught off guard by the zombie suddenly appearing in front of him. He swings his hammer around in a frightful arc, but the blow is clumsy and the blacksmith off balance.

Just the torso and arm.
Vreeg's Chamber - Round 2 - continued
Travigan regains his balance in time to swing mightly at the zombie that just appeared in front of him. Unfortunately, the big swing connects with nothing at all.
Crux begins chanting and gesticulating trying to bring a ally to the fight against the flying derro.
The zombie looks to punch Travigan, who is a bit muddled with his big empty swing. The undead creature moves much to slowly, and Travigan is able to parry before the blow can do any damage.
Vreeg the flying derro casts a spell and a ghostly hand appears next to him, hovering above the heroes.
Zombie Slam: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Spectral Hand: 1d4 ⇒ 2
Tina, Marnos, and Kalvin are up. Tina still needs to answer the question above about range increment on bombs to determine if hers is hit or miss from round 1.
