I like Raamanti, he can stay.

Zart the Lost |

Okay, read through it all. Very interesting reading. I don’t know if I mentioned it before* to the group, but I have played book one (or most of it anyway) before in real life. The game stopped abruptly and I’ve always wanted to pick up on it again.
* Raamanti will no doubt tell me to just scroll up and check. Looks like I haven't told you before.
Anyway, I’m all caught up now and eager to be introduced. I’ll see if I can do one more intro post on my own to help Crispy wedge me in there. :-)

Raamanti |

It took you longer for you to read it than you promised, though. I guess it was reading through things like Pyron’s background exposition via a “holy wall of text” that took the extra time. Also, you never were very good at estimation.
These folk have shown a disturbing lack of concern for their treasure and experience. They are also easily disarmed. I know certain people who would be most displeased with that kind of recklessness. I guess you think you know what you’re getting yourself into.

Tolenn |

Welcome, Zart and shadow!

Zart the Lost |

Thanks, Tolenn. Great to be here.
Crispy, no problems. I'll craft up said post now! Hope I don't end up taking too many liberties. I'm happy to retro anything that doesn't work for you.

Tolenn |

Any help you need Zart, keeping that uppity shadow in like....:D

Pyron Firehide |

Ditzie is a pretty simple tool that is free. Thanks for the positive response on my game.

Zart the Lost |

By the way, GM Crispy, might I suggest asking Gaius if he'd be okay with a "semi-bot" for the game of knivesies? It could take quite a while, even at 2+ posts each per day. If he describes the strategy for you, I'd say just roll it out all at once. That is, unless the result of the game is of particular importance...

Gaius Tindareus |

Im ready, and after tomorrow I have a lot of time off work. Am I supposed to roll my own initiative? Last time Crispy rolled for Daud, so I assumed he was waiting for other bets to be placed.

Gaius Tindareus |

I assume i can pick up one coin with a move action and drop it in my pouch as a free action. Is this correct? Would that provoke? What if I want to sweep some coins off the table? What action is that, and does that provoke? Is casting spells allowed?

Wednesday Daud |

... I had really hoped you had a plan going into this...

Zart the Lost |

Snatching a fistful of 1d10 coins off the
table is a standard action that provokes an attack of opportunity.
Since each opponent has only one free hand, the first round is
typically a mad lunge for the dagger, forcing the slower opponent
to make grabs for gold.
My personal assumption would be a move action to drop the coins, since "drop to the ground" is a free action. Either way, you get an AoO against you and coins on your pouch. The only thing is if you have a "spare" move action or not as well.
From the rules of the game also, the first coin to be knocked to the ground ends the game. If neither of you had any coins, it would be a no score draw.
Can't answer your other questions except to say that this is a game between ruffians. Casting isn't disallowed specifically, but how badly do you want to cheat in a game of knives against cutthroats? ;-)
If my assumption on what you may be interested in doing is correct, move action or not to put the coins in your pouch, you would still have a free action to drop a snatched coin to the floor - assuming you picked up more than one and didn't put them all in your pouch.

DM Crispy |

Standard to snatch up 1d10 coins (or just 1, if you're just wanting to ensure victory...same action either way). Move action to stow the coins in your belt. I'll allow a free action to 'drop the coin in', but you'll have to make an improvised ranged attack roll vs DC 15...you're not exactly stationary, and that's a small target. Another move action to kick or sweep the coins, which would again provoke. So you're talking about a standard and two moves (or a standard, move, and free to press your luck with the dropping into the pouch) to pull the clever 'I have enough to win, so it's time to end the game' ploy. As for picking up more than one, stowing some, then dropping one, I rule that if you just 'drop' it, it would fall back on the table. You would have to toss it, which would be a move action.
As Zort mentioned, there were no specific rules on spellcasting, and with this lot mostly riding on the wrong side of the law, it's a safe bet that if it is not mentioned it is legal. However, they might not take kindly to it, and you are trying to solve this diplomatically.
Zort, I appreciate your enthusiasm, but please allow me to answer questions of this nature (although your feedback and criticism after I have answered are welcome).

Summon Monster I |
Shadow dog tucks his tail between his leg and lets out an apologetic, "Awoooo."
---
Sorry about that, I'll remove my head from my butt and let the GM do the GMing.
On another matter, how do you like this method of presenting my summoned creatures? I've updated this profile with full stats for the shadow dog (and other Summon Monster I creatures) with the shadow creature template and augment summoning feats properly applied. I'll populate it with more creatures and get to the other spells in time. Please let me know if there's anything more you want in the tagline or on the profile... or if I can make your life easier with different formatting. My aim is to modify the tagline on a per-cast basis (ie. when I summon a viper instead, that's the tagline you'll see).
Can you believe that the Summon Monster I-V aliases were available? Oddly, Summon Monster VI wasn't available, but VII-IX were. Something very strange is going on there.
**EDIT** Just checked out the Summon Monster VI profile. Strange, but it's got 24 posts and it's not being used for PbP. Even stranger, the main profile has 0 posts! Curiouser and curiouser.

Pyron Firehide |

Does anyone know why why I press the submit post button, that the webpage responds as if I pressed the preview button, so that the post never gets submitted?

Zart the Lost |

At least you were getting preview! I had a 20 minute post in another game get completely swallowed by a marketing page redirect. Grrr.

Wednesday Daud |

*scratches head*
Hasn't happened to me yet... Yet.

Pyron Firehide |

Are we allowed to construct buildings as seen in the ultimate campaign book?

Raamanti |

Hmmm. it is starting to look like the "Frequent Poster Trio Hour" at the moment. :-)
DM Crispy, do let me know if you want me to tell my master to slow down on the posts.

Zart the Lost |

Regarding Zoogs...
The Paizo reference doc has a Zoog as CE. However, my physical copy of the bestiary and the d20PFSRD entry have it as CN.
I've just downloaded the errata and it says to change the entry to CE.
Just thought I'd let you know where the confusion came from.
So, what to do about it?
This errata was just released - on November 10, 2014. This came out after the Advanced Race guide - which I don't think intended for summoners tha have all of the elemental summons (and the lemure) replaced with a monster summon that has to be evil. It would be a real set-back for good summoners (and even neutral ones who hang out with paladins).
Since the Advanced Race Guide hasn't got an errata and there's nothing on the forums... can we have a house rule that the particular Zoogs called by Zart's spells are chaotic neutral for now? If you like, I can post to the forums to see if I can get a developer's answer on this. Alternatively, I'm happy to roleplay it out with chaotic evil Zoogs, or roleplay that Zart was unaware of the alignment specifically.

Wednesday Daud |

Raamanti: Oh sure boss, you can trust em. We go way back.
~Later~
Zart: Raamanti! You got some splainin to do!

Wednesday Daud |

Wait a minute...
Summon Monster VI: A shadow caller cannot summon Huge elementals, erinyes, lillend azatas, or succubi, but can summon cloakers (Bestiary 47).
We've been had! I demand a refund on our new party member!
Raamanti can stay.

Wednesday Daud |

The Zoog is the least of your worries, think how Tolenn will react when you start summoning shadows, allips, kytons, derghodaemons, and Nightwings?

Zart the Lost |

I imagine she'll be thrilled when they eschew their evil ways and start working for the forces of good. That's how paladins think, right?

Wednesday Daud |

If you can get them to do that ot will be frickin sweet!

Zart the Lost |

Just for the record (for Tolenn as well), I did not know that shadow callers could only summon evil "extras" at certain levels. I was originally going to play a demon summoner (and before that, a necromancer), but changed that choice due to party makeup.
So, if this unintended choice has undesirable party-conflict ramifications, I'd be happy to (with GM approval) tweak Zart or make a different character entirely. I hope we can get past it through good roleplaying, but I really don't want to be a disruption - especially as a latecomer.

Wednesday Daud |

If you do end up rebuilding have you seen the Spiritualist from the Occult Adventures Playtest?

Zart the Lost |

I've had a brief look, but I generally prefer not to play play test classes. We've got an oracle / witch anyway. ;-)

Wednesday Daud |

I recommended the Spiritualist because It plays like the Summoner, it doesn't play anything like the oracle or witch from what I could see.

Zart the Lost |

*reads over the playtest again*
Huh. Looks like I might have been getting it confused with the Occultist. The Spiritualist is definitely a freaky Summoner (minus the summon spells) and not a Witch/Oracle type! Wow. Still gets haste at 4th level, too. I thought they had agreed summoners were OP (and that that was one of the reasons).
I like the class, but it's not the right flavor for Zart. If I were to do a rebuild, I think I'd just go for straight summoner (possibly but not necessarily also with a race change) and have my Eidolon look and behave very much like Raamanti anyway. Minimal disruption.
Also, found a reason to actually play a playtest class - PFS boons! I just checked out the chronicle sheet (by accident). Cool incentive to actually help out with the playtest.
Before we get too far ahead, let's hear what Tolenn and DM Crispy have to say!
