The idea if running an AP on these forums has been rolling around my head for a while now. Finally, I've decided to start. I'll be starting up a Skulls and Shackles game. Recruitment will run for a week depending on how recruitment goes. However, I do guarantee 24 hours notice before closing though.
•20-point buy
•All Classes and Archetypes from CRB, ARG, UM, and UC available
•Any race from the ARG, but the more rare the creature the better the background needs to be
•Any non-evil alignment, but lawful PC's should follow a personal code of conduct which still allows them to steal and plunder (remember you're pirates)
•2 Traits (1 from the Skull and Shackles Player's Guide)
•You can roll or take average gold, your choice
No application is complete without background. You don't need a profile, but I would prefer one, as it is easier to access.

Baltzar Callinova |

Chiming in with this character for application, though I'll have to make a few tweaks as she's currently made with 25pts, but otherwise she's a changeling (sea lungs) witch (sea witch Arch), Capuchin monkey (like the Friends/Outbreak monkey) familiar
Will also get background written up and either post it here in spoiler or send a PM, whichever you prefer.
(Oh and btw, I'm AbsolutGrndZer0 from that other thread)
Ok, got her fixed (just had to reduce her charisma which while I personally like a high charisma, its not necessary for a witch). Also, her background is also there on the profile.
Some extra info...
Her patron is... Sea Witch since it doesn't really matter what her patron is, it's completely replaced by the Sea Witch archetype... always thought it was funny it says "some of your spells" when in fact every single spell is replaced. IF it ever matters, I'd say before the Sea witch archetype is added, I'd go with water.
Will take average gold, which is 105gp for a witch, that leaves me with 5g for various stuff beyond her free set of clothes.
Personal trait is "Child of the Temple" and campaign trait is "Besmara's Blessing"
OH and if it's alright, I'd like for her monkey to have the Pilferer archetype from Animal Archive. I just think it wonderfully fits a pirate to have a thieving little monkey :)
If you have any other questions, let me know and later I'll get the entire character sheet put in the profile.

Sunny. |

N'so, a description o' th' kin 'Back home'. Island Elves of which she wus a part of would seem to be more 'Native' like. Simple hunter, gather-ers who might supplement things with a bit of 'natural' crop farming and other horticulture'l endeavors.
Now, bein' Native don't mean bein' Stoopid. (Frowns and waggles a warning finger at folks.)
Since they're more like Seals then Fish, they'd be on goodly terms wi' th' Merfolks there abouts an' probably have good trade relations wi' 'em. As fer raiders an' such? Well, every community puts up with that sort o' folk in a fantasy setting, right (^.~) ?
Suny's (Elasandriel) kith and kin have been living on the edges of the sea from time immemorial. Whether it was exploring some new and pristine beach or scampering about the rigging of whatever sailing vessel was the fashion of the day. Being 'Of the sea and shore' are part of her nature.
Always inquisitive, Sunny has worked passage upon a vessel which passed by her home and is now in Port...
*Waves* Applying fer duties!
Presenting a character which did not make selection for another game. Wishing every one all the very best/

I'd love to join in on this, working on a character now. I just wanted clarification, you said classes and archetypes from the CRB, ARG, UM, and UC are available. Did you perhaps mean the APG? As far as I know the ARG (advanced races guide) doesn't have any classes or archetypes :)
Thinking of either an aquatic druid, or an oracle of some sort. Let me know if the APG is allowed or not, and then I can post the character and background :)

Reijo Ilvonen |

"Arrr! Me be waitin' fer a GM t'run this AP. Here be me character's profile."
DMBen - I have been prepared and waiting for this AP to be run! I believe everything you've asked for is in this profile, though I will check it over soon to see if anything's from a book you haven't pre-approved. Average gold was taken.
EDIT: Just checked feats & traits so far - I am assuming Saraiso is right and that you meant to include the APG (the trait rules are in the APG, too). That said, only one of my traits is not from any of the sources you mentioned. Would the Rough & Ready trait be permissible, from the Adventurer's Armory book? I'll go through my equipment when I get a chance later on, and will adapt as needed.

DMBen |

Sorry, yes. The APG. That'll teach me to post just before going to bed.
Magical lineage . . . Are you planning to take levels in spell-casting classes later? And the martial artist can already be neutral good, do you don't need your adopted trait.

Shmoogie |

I am extremely interested. I'm brand-spanking new to these forums, so bear with me whilst I figure stuff out. How many posts per day is the plan? I can definitely do more than two but I'm not sure if I can commit to say 5 per day.
I'm myself going to be running a nautical (eventually spelljammer) campaign soon (not-online) and I'm very interested in seeing how the S&S nautical combat systems works, one of the reasons for my interest.
Anyway, I'm internally debating between a character that focuses on teamwork and ship battles, and a "mad" gnome alchemist.
Is it ok to combine archtypes for a single class, so long as the archtypes don't "overlap" with what they swap out?

DMBen |

Welcome to PBP. You can post twice a day if you want, but I expect only one and will probably only post once a day myself.
As far as archetypes, yes. As long as they don't replace the same class feature.
No tiefling or Aasimar variations.
Do you have the rules for a mute cursed oracle? I cast find them anywhere.

Mala Salazar |

Hero Lab has it as coming from Jade Regent.
Mute (Ex) Zaiobe’s oracle curse renders her mute—she can’t
speak, use verbal spell components, or use her captivating song as a result. This same curse, though, grants her the ability to cast all spells as if using the Silent Spell metamagic feat without modifying that spell’s actual level. In addition, Zaiobe can communicate telepathically with any creature she is in physical contact with. She can also maintain a telepathic bond with one specific creature at a time by taking a full-round action to link her mind to that creature during telepathic communication. Currently, she shares this link with Kikonu, even though, ironically, the two are not speaking. Zaiobe can change the target of her telepathic link once per day.

SPECIAL ABILITIES
Judgment (Su) (1/day): Starting at 1st level, an inquisitor can pronounce judgment upon her foes as a swift action. Starting when the judgment is made, the inquisitor receives a bonus or special ability based on the type of judgment made.
At 1st level, an inquisitor can use this ability once per day. At 4th level and every three levels thereafter, the inquisitor can use this ability one additional time per day. Once activated, this ability lasts until the combat ends, at which point all of the bonuses immediately end. The inquisitor must participate in the combat to gain these bonuses. If she is frightened, panicked, paralyzed, stunned, unconscious, or otherwise prevented from participating in the combat, the ability does not end, but the bonuses do not resume until she can participate in the combat again.
When the inquisitor uses this ability, she must select one type of judgment to make. As a swift action, she can change this judgment to another type.
Misdirection (Sp): At 1st level, each day when the infiltrator prepares spells, she may choose an alignment. She detects as that alignment as if she had used misdirection on a creature with that alignment (this does not change any divination results about her other than her alignment).
Guileful Lore (Ex): At 1st level, the infiltrator's will is bent toward subterfuge and deception. She adds her Wisdom modifier on Bluff and Diplomacy skill checks in addition to the normal ability score modifiers.
Sudden Shift (Sp) (6/day): In the blink of an eye, you can appear somewhere else. As an immediate action, after you are missed by a melee attack, you can teleport up to 10 feet to a space that you can see. This space must be inside the reach of the creature that attacked you. You can use this power a number of times each day equal to 3 + your Wisdom modifier.

Bellam Anklebane grew up in a remote swamp in the wilderness of Sargava. When Cheliax colonized the area, many of his clan were either driven from their homes or enslaved. Though Cheliax no longer rules over his land, its shadow is long. Bellam's parents often told him of the injustices dealt to his people during their imperialistic history.
Especially interesting to him were the tales of the bravery of the Free Pirates in defending the land from a new Chelish invasion. He revered the heroes of those stories, as well as their goddess the Pirate Queen, and longed to defend his homeland in the same way. He saw the pirates as benevolent protectors, and wished to join them not for his own personal gain, but to shield his home from foreign invasions, and to drain the resources of the Sargavan government through tribute to keep them from exerting their influence over the native peoples.
He trained in both sword and shadow, hoping to one day bring the enemies of freedom to their knees, either through combat or espionage. Once he became an adult, he set out to Port Peril to seek his fate, and ended up in a drinking contest in the Formidably Maid...

While he had a talent for the arcane as a youth, the wizards he visited to become apprenticed to where to be blunt snobs and racist to boot. So his training came from books and a mixture of hodgepodge arcane lore, then he stumbled onto the secret of success: His own blood.
As it turned out he could use his own blood to create weapons and increase his fledgling arcane abilities. This he did and he signed up on his first pirate ship at the age of 20, he has been at it for two years. As such he can be counted on to know the ways of pirates.
He weighs 125 pounds, he has the body of a stick, his face is rogish and bears features which point to a Cambion in his ancestry, his head is bald save for a crown of small horns and his flesh is dull yellow with black marking etched across his face.
I hope you like him

Hero Lab has it as coming from Jade Regent.
** spoiler omitted **
That's cool, but sucks that it doesn't give the level progression, its an NPC thing looks like... Does Hero Labs at all give the progression? Cause OMG I used to have a character in White Wolf that was a psychic based mage that was mute, and some players kept harping on me that it would be easy for any mage to heal but I kept telling them that it resisted any attempts at healing and they were like "OMG that's stupid" usually. Remaking her in Patfhinder would be awesome.

DMBen |

It does make an interesting character, and at another time I'd probably work with you to get out a level progression that seems balanced, but I don't have the time or desire to do that right now. I'm just gonna nix it.
As for other feedback stuff, give me a minute to catch up and I'll post again in a bit.

Reijo Ilvonen |

Variziel - And I thought my back story was long, lol.
DMBen - Apologies for the length of my back story as well, lol. Between Variziel and I alone you have your work cut out for you.
I should also mention a few additional things...
Also, I'd like for Reijo to take the Inner Sea Pirate prestige class from the same book at later levels. I think he'd probably multiclass a couple levels in Barbarian (Sea Reaver archetype from UC) too, as he's a rageful kind of guy though he blows only on occasion (he suppresses it much of the time).
Combatwise, Reijo will develop as a dirty fighter. He'll utilize dirty tricks, intimidation tactics, trip attacks, and (with the ISP PrC) sneak attacks as well as some two-weapon combat in time. Skillwise, he's an invaluable sailor, shipwright, and ship's artist (navigator).

DMBen |

@Baltzar - your background looks good, but I would like to know a little more about who Baltzar is. Doesn't necessarily need to go in your background--maybe a section with personality or something--but I consider your application complete.
@Japheeth - Looking great. I kind of like the whole eidolon inside you thing. Though I am curious, how do you see this working with Meena being a medium creature. I've got some ideas, but I want to hear how you see it.
@Variziel - Nope, I love lots of writing. Go as long as you want . . . well not novel sized, but within reason as long as you want.
Edit: Ninja'd
@Rahel, Rainydayninja & Gizsmith - Looking good. No questions yet.
@Randall - Looks like your still working on gear and background. Can't wait to see what you get.
@Mala, and Mindy - Looking good, but see announcement below.
Attention all:Just thought I should let you know, I do have one PC selected from before I put up recruitment. I didn't mention it before because I didn't know what he was playing. But now I know he is a fighter (cad). This does not mean that I won't select any more fighters, but your chances of being selected do go down significantly. If you wish to change your submission feel free. You still have plenty of time.

Shmoogie |

I figured it would be easier to make the mad alchemist fit my screen name than the tactics-minded pirate.
Submitting Shem "The Mad" O'gee!
Gnome Alchemist (Clone Master/Mindchemist)
Of course, the fact that the "society" Shem is integrating with is a band of pirates matters very little.
I realize that I made a character that partially is going to depend on shore leave and down time to restock and rebuild his abilities, but I do hope that the campaign goes on long enough to utilize some of the clone master archtype's advantages, and so thus have a clone holed up at port to switch into to deal with that sort of logistics between resupplies. That, and actually creating crew in giant test tubes, instead of recruiting them, sounds like a hilarious idea (as impractical as it is).
Edit: Oh yeah, the character is on my profile. ...now to figure out how to add a picture...

Hello.
Sorry for not being able to immediately reply. Different time zones and shift work tends to get in the way of things some times.
Okay, was more posting to show the background and basic outline and to have an avatar page ready.
Here's the level progression.
NOT going Monk at 1st level.
1st Lvl 1'Titan Mauler' Barbarian.
2nd lvl 2'Titan mauler' Barbarian.
3rd Lvl 3'Titan Mauler' Barbarian.
4th Lvl 1 'Kenasi' Magus
5th lvl and beyond, Kensai Magus for every level after.
Eventually will redo the avatar page properly. Still mulling over adjusting starting traits.
Will still be taking four traits.
Eventually I wold like to have a large, sword swinging dervish type character. (^_^)
Hope that helps clear things up. I also understand my 'dropping' as there is already a fighter chosen.
Much cheers to all.

AbsolutGrndZer0 |

@AbsolutGrndZer0 - there isn't any listed level progression in HL. Originally I was building a Life Oracle for a JR game and didn't realize that curse wasn't a 'standard' one. I think it makes an interesting character idea though, so why not? :)
I asked James Jacobs about it, and he had this to say about us ever seeing it in player form...
Odds are very slim. Having seen PCs who were mute or took a vow of silence in play before and noting how little those characters had to add to the game session from a roleplaying standpoint, I don't think the mute curse is really all that appropriate to players at all.
I replied back, and hopefully I don't offend him, but basically I said that his comments could easily apply to the deaf curse too, at least unless the GM completely ignores that the character is deaf.
I've played a mute character before, and I've played a deaf character before. It just requires the player to understand, at least sympathetically if not actually, how a deaf or mute person communicates with non-deaf or non-mute persons. If the player doesn't contribute, that's the fault of the player IMO, not the disadvantage of being mute (or deaf).

Much cheers to all.
Got it. Well, then looking good. No questions so far.
GM does that mean a more "straight" caster like a wizard is desired? If so i'll submit one.
I'm not sure what I said that suggested that, but no, I'm not looking for a more "straight" caster. I'm just looking for interesting, fun characters.
Here is my submission, an Oracle of the Waves. All relevant information is in the profile. I had the character made up before I realized there was another Oracle with the same Mystery, but I like it enough that I'm just going to go with it. I can post at least once a day.
Good luck to everyone!
Looking good. No questions yet.
