The king is dead! In the Varisian port city of Korvosa, the death of a monarch leads to chaos, and only a small group of heroes can hope to save the city from its own darkest tendencies.

Casting: When casting a spell defensivly if you fail you do not automaticly lose the spell, rather you provoke an attack as you normally would for not casting defensive. If you are hit you must make a concentration check dc 10+damage taken if you fail this check you lose the spell.

Rolls:
Many rolls will be handled by the GM in secret.(don't worry, I don't fudge.)
Any result that can influence the character behavior will not be rolled open.

Sense Motive.

if you make the check I will send you a pm or make a post and put it in a spoiler depending on the situation.

Sometimes I will roll Initiative others I will ask you to roll depending on the situation. In some situation (rarely) I will bypass init entirely and have you all go first and enemies second or have enemies go first and you all go after.

Combat rules:
I'm a fair GM, I dont roll combat in secret, I don't change results, I don't ignore bad calls from the characters.
Sometimes, character dies, but I'm not a player killer, if I think that an encounter will be easy handled, when it should be more challenging, I will make it a more challenging, if the party it's not prepared to face something, I will drop hints, if they insist... well killing one or two players never made me lack sleep...

Actions:
I'm a GM that do not punish the character for trying something new or cool, or even strange. Visual appealing actions are encouraged, the dc will of course depend on what are you trying, but you can try! If what you want to do is wicked cool, I can even bend the game mechanics to allow it! The most importat part is: You are villains. Villains are smart, resourceful and have style! Have you ever seen a memorable villain that could just swing his sword and do nothing more?

Posting Rate
If it could be done, I expect 1/day posting, if you can post more, it will really good.
During weekend, this rule does not apply. If you are able to post, great! But dont stress over this, everyone need some time to rest (In my case, I need time to play and DM :D on my tabletop games).

Level up
Aside from character creation, when you level up, if you want something not from core rulebook, you'll need to search it inside the game. basicly what you need to do is just show in game your character is searching for that knowledge. This rule is not meant to prohibit anything, I just don't like something like this: "Character always as a full caster, never picked up a sword in his entire life, and then he gain a new level and says: Master, I'll level up as a fighter now..."

F Human Sorcerer/1

Seeing that the shot's going to be hard to make -- in between cover and the chaos of melee-- Ylenna opts instead to fire off a cantrip. She points her finger, and a different looking (narrower, more focused, and not as powerful) firely ray fires out at the half-orc. However, she's not able to hit, and the ray hits the wall behind him.

Actions:

Using Ray of Frost, but use my Bloodline Arcana to change the Frost damage to Fire.

Ranged touch attack including -8 for cover and target in melee: 1d20 - 6 ⇒ (11) - 6 = 5

Cedric hits the giggles for 5 damage and everyone else missed.

He is hurt but can still fight and he swings for Cedric this time but Cedric manages to avoid the blow.

Standard Action: Try to break free of the tanglefoot goo again
Rest of Round: Scrape the goo off to get rid of the entangle effect

Finally noticing Crain enter the fray, Cassiel redoubles his efforts at getting loose of the goo.

This time, he manages to get his feet loose! He starts scraping and clawing at the gunk, trying to get the rest of it off him.

Crain, now within range of the strange 1/2 Orc swings his flail, as he continues to rant about. Lamm. "Is he here? Put down your weapon and you might live. I'm not here for you...I'm here for him!"

Crain flail smashes into the half-orc's skull and he slumps to the ground unconscious and bleeding badly from his injuries.

Cedric will motion for party members to open the doors that are to the left and the right will he guards the one next to him

"Is Lamm here? The fortune teller said he was here. Have you seen him? We've got to move now if he's here!". Without waiting for an answer, he charges the left doors and throws them open.

While the others charge in Kira takes a moment to check the bodies quickly for anything that might be useful; keys, potions, or documents.

The old man carries several vials among them 2 flask of acid, another tanglefoot bag, unknown 2 potions. He also has a dagger, a wand, a garnet worth 100 gold, a pouch with 29 gold and an iron key.

The half-orc has a studded leather armor and a morningstar.

Crain opens the door to the left and finds a loading and shipping area full of boxes that stink like fish, there is nobody here currently.

While Crain opens the left door, Ylenna attempts to identify the two potions. (Do they look the same as each other?)

They do seem the same and the second one is certainly a healing potion (clw) but you aren't certain for the first.

Ylenna looks up at the others. "Cassiel, do you need any more healing? This potion is a healing potion, and I strongly suspect this other one is as well."

Xavice glad to see the half-orc drop and noticing the raging man that just ran in and took out the left door, he decides to go look in the new room staying at the entrance of the room to stand next to the new-comer.

"calm down" he whispers to the new-comer "each one of us here wants him dead as much as you do,that I can assure you, but we cant go rushing into things. With all the noise we made up here i'd be surprise if they're not aware that we're coming and we could run into a trap. We wouldn't be able to bring him to meet his demise, if we're prisoners or dead"

"As for the healing " says Xavice towards Ylenna "If no one else needs it I could use it"

"Tell them, boy," nodding at Cedric. "While we stand around here diddling about, he might be escaping now! If he knows we are here, we need to get to him now. Who's with me?". Crain moves to the doors on the right, and opens me, flail in hand.


you open the door to the right - A pair of bunk beds sits against the far wall of this room to either side of a boarded-over window. You do not see anything of value kept here.

You check the other door to the right - A wooden desk sits in one corner of this room, its side preventing the western door from opening all the way. The table is heaped with dozens of slate boards covered with chalk scrawls, while to the east a cabinet slouches against the wall. To the east, a few moldy boards have been nailed over a door that leads outside were the boardwalk is now broken.

The last remaining door you haven't opened leads into the room were you saw the kids churning that big bucket.

"If anyone wants to check this stuff go ahead," Crain points to the desk and cabinet, "But I still think we need to focus on finding him first, and we can scavenge his trinkets later.".

Crian takes a second to look at the last door before opening it, though.

If he senses nothing out of the ordinary, he takes a deep breath and opens the door.

Kira nods to Crain's suggestion. Her bow at the ready, letting someone lead the way.

Cassiel waves the offer off. "I'll be fine for now. Thanks for asking."

He moves to follow Crain.


The stone man rushes into the office room and starts rummaging trough the folders. After a moment he takes a piece of paper and seem happy to have found it. "This is what I needed to clear my brother name, I need to bring this back to the constable! Stab Lamm for me, I'm sure you can handle it!" he says and leaves.

You open the door and go down a short hallway and open another door to find a strange sight ahead...The children are all lined up carrying makeshift weapons: pitchforks, paddles and clubs. Among them is Ylenna's brother thought she can see him yet.

Behind the lined up children is another half-orc with a crossbow.

"You hold em back yer welps, I'll kill ya on the spot if you don't" he says as you open the door, his crossbow is at the ready and he's prepared to fire.

Your options for the children are to try and push trough them (no roll needed you move at half speed I will tell you if they manage to stop you), attack them (you can take a -4 on your attack to deal non-lethal to knock them out), reason with them or scare them (diplomacy or intimidate)

Xavice took one healing potion, and Ylenna will hold on to the other for now.

From back where she is, Ylenna calls to the others, "Don't hurt the children."

Then she calls louder. "Roland! Roland! Are you there? It's me, Ylenna! I'm coming to get you out of there!"

She shifts about anxiously where she is, trying to see past the others so that she can see whether or not her younger brother is among the children in here.

"Kids, there's no need to be afraid anymore. Neither Lamm nor his lackeys will have any hold over you any longer. Please, step aside and let us take the fight to Lamm."

If Kira does not have a clear shot she will try to help Cassiel convice the kids to move "Kids, we are here to free you from these monsters, get out of here so that we can deal with them!"

If she can in fact make a shot without hitting the kids, she will take aim at the Half-Orc and fire while the others try to disperse the children.

Xavice takes the healing potion as soon as it is given to him.
do I roll or does GM roll?

As soon as he notices the kids in the room Xavice is reminded of how it was to be in there shoes "I was in your place before" he says to the children's "even if you do as they say they'll still torture you, my scars are living proof of that, so stand down and get behind us" says Xavice as he moves as far as he can and gives total cover from range attacks with his tower shield and partial to everyone behind him.

if any kids gets behind Xavice, he'll try to block the bolts that are aimed at them, if possible

As Cedric makes his way trough the children try to stop him by attempting to trip him up while others attack.

Cedric takes 1 damage from a pitchfork stab but he makes it to the half-orc

Seeing Cedric come for him the half-orc fire his crossbow at Cedric but misses and the bolt hits the wall next to the door.

Seeing the crossbow is no longer loaded the kids scatter and get out of the way.

Kira fires and her bolt finds it's way in the half-orcs shoulder.

As Xavice gets into position to protect the children one of them draws a hidden dagger and drives it into Xavice's rib.

The dagger hits his mark and surprises Xavice, who swings to retaliate at the new found foe.

If the gnome isn't dead Xavice will attack him, if he is he's going to move in to attack the half-orc.

good thing for the healing even though it actually dropped me lower then I healed -.-


The combine assault of Cassiel and and Xavice quickly dispatches the foolish gnome.

The half-orc is badly injured and he trows down his crossbow and raise his hands.

I give up! Don't kill me! he says

"I catch you bothering any of these kids, and that'll be the end of you! Now get out of here if you know what's good for you!". The irate flail wielder heads straight for the stairs, if he can locate them. If not, he asks for directions from the half Orc.

Cassiel steps over and grabs Crain by the shoulder.

"Crain. Calm down. Charging blindly into Lamm's hole is a good way to get yourself killed."

He looks over at the children, cowering in the corners of the fishery floor. "Look. I know we're all here for Lamm--that much is obvious. But he's not the only one in danger here."

He walks over to the children, speaking in a calm voice. "Kids, I know you don't know any of us. I know few of you have reason to trust us. But right now, we're the best shot you have of escaping Lamm for good."

He kneels down in front of them. "Listen to me carefully: get out of here, and go to 3 Lancet Street. It's a safe place, and we'll be along soon to make sure everyone is safe and sound." He looks between Ylenna and the kids. "Have any of you seen a Roland around here? He's her brother." He points Ylenna out to them.

The half orc slowly makes a move for the western door that leads to the landing area exit.

"You can find Lamm down there, I never wanted to use no kids, was just following orders..." he points to a door in the back and makes a run for the exit.

Assuming nobody stops him

The kids nod and make their way out except for one.

"I'm Roland...Sis?" he says

After a second, a flash of recognition crossed Crain's half crazed eyes. "Don't I know you from somewhere, kid? Get them young'uns out of here, and let's go get Lamm," he says with a nod toward Cassiel.

Ylenna comes running into the room. "Roland! Roland, are you all right?"

She rushes up to him and grabs him. He hugs her back, fiercely. Normally, he wouldn't do that-- it's really not cool to hug your ancient (like, even over 20) sister when you're an adolescent. But this is not a normal circumstance.

Ylenna pulls back and says, "Roland, can you get to safety? Can you run home, or to one of the hiding places in the city I've shown you? Or, go to 3 Lancet street, the address this man just gave you. He's a good man, and can be trusted. Make sure to stay with other kids, and stay away from any adults until you get to 3 Lancet street. Help the younger kids! These other people and I have to go after the man who did this to you, and make sure that he doesn't kidnap any more kids ever again."

Roland nods.

Yelnna says, "I will find you later! Stay safe!"

Roland runs out, to help the other (and particularly the younger) kids escape.

Cedric will wait patiently for a few seconds.

After that he goes straight for the lower level not wanting to give more time to Lam to escape

Kira grins as the kids run off thinking to herself 'The children of the city free to follow their own paths, hopefully better paths then what they were subjected to here.'

She waits for at least two of the tougher fellows to lead the way before she follows with her bow drawn.

Cassiel lets the half-orc run off. He was pathetic, certainly, but he had neither the authority to arrest him nor the desire to kill him. It was enough that he was running away with his tail twixt his legs.

He moves to follow Cedric downstairs, his scimitar readied. Lamm wasn't going to get away this time.

"Sorry, I'm not actually officially in the guard anymore. Ranks got no use for me, not that it ever really did," Crain chuckles as he nods again at the familiar face, and continues to head downstairs.

Seeing as the fight is over Xavice pulls the dagger out of his ribs assuming its still there. He then looks at the body of the gnome that stabbed him and makes sure he's really dead by poking him with the end of his sword if he is Xavice then searches the body for anything of uses as he says to himself "take a healing potion to get stabbed in the ribs, not my kind of trade" he then looks up towards Ylenna "if you got another one of those to spare I could use it"

obviously there's nothing on the gnome so Xavice gets up and waits for the rest of the people before he goes down.

You open the door and go down the stairs single file.

The air in this large room is somewhat chilly and stinks of the river, no doubt thanks to a huge opening in the floor that drops away to the river shore five feet below. Several pilings emerge from the waters to support the roof above, with mossy ropes slung between them. In two places, rusty manacles hang from the ropes over the water. Two five-foot-wide walkways cross the hole’s edge to the other side of the chamber, where a collection of old cabinets, lockboxes, and piles of clutter are strewn about. Chipped porcelain plates, a cracked goblet, badly rusted silverware, an old wooden shield with a crossbow bolt embedded in it, the odd dinged helm, and other “treasures” litter the floor of this entire chamber. Three tables, their tops heaped with additional clutter, stand amid this mess, while just west of that a wooden door seems to provide access to a walled-off section.

Ylenna says, "Yes, we have one more potion left. Here, have it."

She gives the remaining potion of Cure Light Wounds to Xavice.

As the group heads downstairs, Ylenna's nose wrinkles at the smell, and then her entire face contorts in disgust as she sees the manacles. "What a mess,[b]" she says. Looking at the hole into the river, she says, "[b]I suppose this is part of a child-slave-labor smuggling business that Lamm runs."

Looking towards the door to the west, she says, "I think that's the way we need to go."


Gaedren Lamm opens the door to the west and comes out holding a loaded crossbow. Lamm is a jaundiced and bent corpse of a man, his eyes yellowed and skin speckled from age. His left leg carries a pronounced limp as he shuffles about mumbling curses. He fires his crossbow into the water hitting a crocodile in the back enraging the beast.

Female Tiefling Transmuter

Kira waits for some of the others to get down the stairs first before taking aim with her bow. As she let's the arrow loose, she tells the others "I say we attempt capture if at all possible."

Attack: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (1) + 4 = 5

Just getting down the steps she stubles a bit as she takes the shot the arrow flying wide.
