The reek of brine and the stink of week-dead fish hang thickly in the air here. The old double doors in the side of this weathered building are tightly closed, with a drooping signpost hanging above. The sign it once displayed is long gone, leaving behind only a single short length of rusted chain. The windows are boarded up and the place seems abandoned.
A slippery boardwalk clings to the side of the fishery, held together by barnacle-thick pilings that have been worn halfway through their thickness at the waterline. It seems to go all the way around the building on the east side. You see a door on the side of the building about halfway along the building.
A fifteen-foot-wide loading dock abuts the west side of the building. A few carts sit nearby, partially loaded with large tar-caked barrels marked with a fish-shaped splotch of red paint on the side. Double doors to the immediate south of the loading dock’s ramp provide access to the building’s interior, while a rickety flight of stairs descends nearly to the river’s surface to the east, where a second door provides a secondary entrance.
Behind the fishery you see a sailing ship docked in place. From were you are you can only see the mast sticking out and you can see the sails are lowered.
Ylenna |
Her eyes narrowed, Ylenna says to the others, "Thanks to some part of my heritage I have yet to understand, I've developed the arcane ability to shoot rays of fire from my hands. I will stand back, ready to provide fire support if there are hostile people inside."
As the others approach the doors, she will stand about fifteen feet directly back from the doors.
Cassiel Hawke |
Cassiel takes a look at the fishery; everywhere he looks, the place looks like its on the verge of collapse. No wonder people couldn't find Lamm: nobody sensible would look in a place that looks so unsafe to hide in.
"Judging from what I've heard, Lamm's likely going to have children here. They could potentially be hostages; it'd be a good idea to free them first before we deal with the man himself."
Need to keep my priorities straight; if nothing else, we'll be able to put a stop to Lamm's child-kidnapping for a while.
Cedric Thargayrian |
That and a bunch of people from his gang. I'll go take a peek as there should be outside sentries.
Cedric will sleathly go and look to see if there are any sentries South side of the building
Stealth: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (14) + 0 = 14
Kira Vanderhoff |
Kira shakes her head "The boat at the back. I don't think there is anyone outside but the sails are raised. I would rather our only lead not escape while we rummage through a warehouse. At the least maybe we can do something to hamper using the ship for escape and then check the interior of the warehouse. We can go along the boardwalk it looks, to get around to the back side."
Cassiel Hawke |
Cassiel stands. "Well, if you're planning on going around the back, let me go first."
With that, Cassiel starts around the side of the building along the boardwalk.
DireMerc |
Cassiel walks along the boardwalk and causes the wood creaks and groans alarmingly but it holds.
Kira follows 15 feet behind you you make your way along the building.
Cassiel reaches a window on the est side of the building that lets him peek inside. He sees a large room with an immense ten-foot-tall wooden vat. The immense vat is filled with a foul combination of seawater, seaweed, fish, and a weak acid mixture. A pair of young boys are using long oar-like stirring rods to keep the mixture churning, working from atop a catwalk that goes over the vat while a tall half-orc brute watches over them. You see other young boys moving back and forth dumping buckets of water and fish into the vat.
So you can see were you are.
DireMerc |
As Xavice makes his way up to join Cassiel the boardwalks creaks and groans and finally collapses dropping Cassiel, Kira and Xavice 10 feet down into the water.
You see a fin in the water nearby that quickly turns and comes your way.

Alright...
Round 1: Actions
Free Action: Drop scimitar
Free Action: Draw Dagger
Move Action: Try to stay afloat
Standard Action: Stab the shark with my dagger, using Power Attack!
Swim (Untrained & Armour Penalty): 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (4) - 4 = 0
The first problem Cassiel encounters is Xavice coming up behind him. The boardwalk, ramshackle pile of garbage that it is, cracks.
Then splinters. Then breaks entirely.
"Oh, SHI--"
Cassiel's cursing is cut off by the loud *SPLASH* he makes when he hits the water.
The shock of the cold, filthy harbour water, combined with the sudden impact of a shark sinking its fangs into him, is enough for him to drop his scimitar in the water.
More cursing comes from his mouth as he draws the dagger in his shoulder sheath and stabs at the shark.
"F**king DIE!" He roars under the water. It comes out garbled.
Power Attack!: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23
Crit Confirm?: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (20) + 3 = 23 SUPER CRIT!
Super Critical Piercing Damage!: 3d4 + 15 ⇒ (4, 1, 3) + 15 = 23
Wow...
Held Breath Rounds Remaining: 24/26
Cassiel Hawke |
Grumbling, Cassiel forcibly pulls his dagger from the shark's eye, sheathes it, picks up his scimitar, and makes for shore.
Swim (Untrained, Armour Penalty): 1d20 - 4 ⇒ (15) - 4 = 11
When he surfaces, he regards the party coolly.
"Call me Ishmael." He quips, dripping water and blood in equal measure.
One of the shark's teeth is stuck in his shield arm.
Cassiel Hawke |
Cassiel looks down at his injuries as he comes ashore. "Well, I'm soaked wet, I just got bit by a shark, and I'm likely to catch a cold from the water." He winces. "In short, I'm just peachy. Although I'd appreciate a healing spell, if anyone has any."
He looks back at the fishery. "I'd say that'd be a fair assumption."
Cedric Thargayrian |
Cedric was moving toward the large double door to the south of the building and quietly look at the locks
Cedric will try to unlocked the doors from his side and pushed (or pulled open)
Disable device: 1d20 + 0 ⇒ (20) + 0 = 20
Kira Vanderhoff |
Kira tries to keep her bow out of the water as Cassiel swiftly deals with the shark, glad that it went after him instead of her as he was obviously able to handle himself.
Kira works her way back to the dock and climbs out of the water. Once Cassiel gets out she goes over to look at the injuries. "Give me a moment." She pulls out some berries and various plants and starts grinding them together in the palm of her hand, then rubbing her hands together quickly. As she touches her hand against his wound there is a warm tingly sensation and a slight sensation of tension. She removes her hands leaving behind the odd plant mixture but there is no more blood.
CLW: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (3) + 1 = 4
Kira steps back from Cassiel "Hope that does it. Though we better not have many more issues. I don't have any more herbs with me."
Cassiel Hawke |
Cassiel sighs. "Thanks."
He then turns to Xavice with a deadpan look in his eye. "Anyway, before I was forced to take a bath..." He looks back at the rest of the team. "...I saw several young boys in the main work area of the fishery. Some were busy dumping fish into a vat, others were running water around, and I saw a half-orc overseeing them."
Xavice Hawklight |
" I'm sorry I forced you to take a bath, it wasn't my intentions. I wish it would of attacked me instead of you" says Xavice towards Cassiel truly feeling sorry.
Feeling like he hampered the success of the surprise attack Xavice moves towards the door with his head down and stands behind the people trying to open the door waiting for it to open and he'll move in front when he can to hopefully take the attacks away from the rest of the party.
DireMerc |
As your picking away at the door a man opens it from the other side. A middle-aged sour-faced man with short blond hair and expensive looking clothing. He carries no visible weapons but carries a satchel and several vials of liquid attached to strings all over his vest.
"What's this?!? Do you have any idea what your doing? You get out of here before I have security beat you into bloody pulps!" he says shocked at find a large group of armed intruders in front of the door.
Ylenna |
Ylenna walks forward to stand behind Cassiel. Her eyes are wide and her face distorts with anger. "Listen to the man! Let us in. We're shutting down this operation and freeing the kids you've enslaved, and if you stand in our way you will BURN!"
Intimidate: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (4) + 7 = 11
DireMerc |
"Well see about that!" he shouts taking a step back while grabbing something from his satchel.
He flings it at Cassiel who he sees at the biggest treat and run back into the fishery.
range touch: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (14) + 1 = 15
The bag strikes Cassiel and explodes into a sticky goo that quickly hardens.
A tanglefoot bag is a small sack filled with tar, resin, and other sticky substances. When you throw a tanglefoot bag at a creature (as a ranged touch attack with a range increment of 10 feet), the bag comes apart and goo bursts out, entangling the target and then becoming tough and resilient upon exposure to air. An entangled creature takes a –2 penalty on attack rolls and a –4 penalty to Dexterity and must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be glued to the floor, unable to move. Even on a successful save, it can move only at half speed. Huge or larger creatures are unaffected by a tanglefoot bag. A flying creature is not stuck to the floor, but it must make a DC 15 Reflex save or be unable to fly (assuming it uses its wings to fly) and fall to the ground. A tanglefoot bag does not function underwater.
A creature that is glued to the floor (or unable to fly) can break free by making a DC 17 Strength check or by dealing 15 points of damage to the goo with a slashing weapon. A creature trying to scrape goo off itself, or another creature assisting, does not need to make an attack roll; hitting the goo is automatic, after which the creature that hit makes a damage roll to see how much of the goo was scraped off. Once free, the creature can move (including flying) at half speed. If the entangled creature attempts to cast a spell, it must make a concentration check with a DC of 15 + the spell's level or be unable to cast the spell. The goo becomes brittle and fragile after 2d4 rounds, cracking apart and losing its effectiveness. An application of universal solvent to a stuck creature dissolves the alchemical goo immediately. Crafting this item is a DC 25 Craft (alchemy) check.
"Giggles stop the intruders!! Smash them!" he says to the half-orc in the room behind him as he runs for the door.
T is the middle-aged man and G is the half-orc.
You can all post in any order.
Kira Vanderhoff |
Assuming the double doors are open so she has line of sight
Kira already frustrated by the whole shark situation and well aware these people are not friendly pulls out an arrow and takes a shot at the man in the back.

Round 1: Actions
Standard Action: Try to get loose of the tanglefoot bag
Reflex Save: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (4) + 1 = 5
The goo harden's quickly, rooting Cassiel to the ground.
"Yep. Killing every last one of you now." Cassiel rolls his eyes.
Strength to get free: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (8) + 3 = 11
"Just as soon as I get this off me."
Crain Tresselmore |
"Wait for me, dammit! He's mine, and I'll not let you catch him before I run him through," the voice calls out behind the group. As they turn, they see a dark haired man in a Guards reserve uniform, stained with both foodstuffs and liquid, running toward them with a flail in hand. "Lamm is mine! Watch out of my way, and let me at him!"
Ylenna |
(Assuming both doors are open so that Ylenna is able to see the half-orc.)
Yelnna's eyes flash as she holds out her hand, pointing towards the half orc. A firey ray leaps from her hand towards the half orc.
Using the Fire Ray bloodline power. This is a ranged touch attack. I've subtracted 4 from my attack roll because of the soft cover of Cassiel in front of Ylenna.
Ranged Touch Attack: 1d20 - 2 ⇒ (16) - 2 = 14
Damage if hits: 1d6 ⇒ 6
DireMerc |
Kira shoots the man in the back with an arrow he stumbles and yelps in pain.
Cedric moves up and attack the older man and stabs him with his sword and he drops to the ground bleeding badly.
Ylenna launches a ray of fire at the half-orc who has a severe burn yet he laughs "Ha! That really hurt!" he says giggling.
Xavice moves in and swings but misses.
The half-orc giggles takes a swing at Xavice and even while prepared Xavice is unable to block the powerful blow from his morningstar.
attack: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (19) + 5 = 241d8 + 4 ⇒ (4) + 4 = 8
Your turn again you can all post.
Crain Tresselmore |
Am I close enough to get an action this round, or do I need to wait one more round while I close distance?
Xavice Hawklight |
Xavice takes a good blow from the half-orc, but also knowing that he cant let the beast trough to hit the rest of the party he stays there, still fighting defensively.
attack: 1d20 + 4 - 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 - 4 = 9
damage: 1d10 + 4 ⇒ (9) + 4 = 13
you needed a 19 or 20 to hit and you got it, I call it happening again, for some reason I always got rotten luck on that lol
Crain Tresselmore |
Crain comes rushing in, pushing by the others. "Outta my way, there's business to be done here!". He hops on top of the desk, giving him an opportunity to swing his flail at the guard the next round.
Cassiel Hawke |
Round 2: Actions
Standard Action: Try to break free of the tanglefoot goo!
Cassiel starts thrashing about, trying to get the tanglefoot gunk off him.
Strength: 1d20 + 3 ⇒ (7) + 3 = 10
He's not doing a good job of it.
