Torchbearers are not too far from the dottari, in my opinion--a bandaid that isn't really dispelling the deeper darkness of Westcrown. Also...an angry crowd with torches and pitchforks comes to mind. Light is more peaceful.

Hey, just being a thoughtful monk.

You could combine some of these great names if you could find one that's not too wordy. Personally I thought Torchbearers was cool, but like the Children of light it may be hard for the Wescrani to feel a kinship too, so something like Torchbearers of Westcrown or The Torch of Westcrown? Wescranis Light? just tossing stuff out there. You know, muddy the waters a little ;)

For loot, we have the following:

Loot found:
Hellknight chainmail x20 (1800gp)
longsword x15 (126gp + Lucon's longsword)
Potions of Cure light wounds x10
light crossbow x10 (210gp)
Crossbow bolts (224) (13gp 4sp)
Three pieces of dated jewelry (5gp each)
2 gems (10gp each)
Leather Armor (sm) (6gp)
Dogslicers x 2 (9gp 6sp)
Broken Dogslicers x7 (25gp 2sp)
Filthy leather armor (sm) x9 (54gp? 40gp 5sp if "broken")
24gp, 231sp
Three small pellets of a hardened, clay-like texture.

All up that's 2303gp and 234sp. Sound right? If we're blessed with the whole schebang, Lucon can buy Banded Mail, a heavy wooden shield and a sap with that alone.

But as for how much of that armour we actually have time to loot (and how many longswords we could reasonably have carted out of that sewer), I've no idea.

You'd have found when taking this stuff to sell that;
The small leather armor is actually masterwork leather armor
the filthy leather armor x9 is not broken - 54 gp
the clay pellets are Smoke Pellets x3 - 45gp

You do raise an interesting question of carting out all that gear in a state of constant worry and hurry, and the other issue of selling hellknight armor, which creates challenges for reselling...

At the current breakdown, and depending on how you all decide to divvy out the loot: (not including Masterwork or Smoke Pellets)
2296gp / 7 = 328gp each
234sp / 7 = 33sp 5cp each

With the difficulty of removing armor and the need to find an especially seedy buyer for the hellknight armor lets make it an even 2100gp and we'll leave the sp the same, 234 total or 33sp and 5cp each.

One CLW wand goes a long way, if we can get magic items. Armoring Lucon would be good, though!

Magic items are available, Tamili would know very well who carried those items, as are scrolls Corneleous.

I'd like to amend that to a sap, gauntlets, a heavy wooden shield and a masterwork breastplate, coming to 360gp! Not half bad, huh? I'll deduct the money now.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Had Lucon healed his ability damage? Or does that heal at the rate of 1 point a night?

Your purchases r noted, and it heals at 1 point a night.

Monks do not need material possessions.

...they need tons of potions and wands pointed at them. :P

Mug, do we have to buy smoke sticks and whatnot for the ambush, or are those 'business expenses'?

I'm thinking of getting a potion of Mage Armor and an elixir of Tumbling. That would be 300 gp and make up for Twigs' grievous overage...I knew Lucon's aw-shucks attitude was just an act! ;)

@Enko, Janiven's plan didn't consist of a budget, except renting the horses, anything else you want to bring would be a personal or team expense.

female Chelaxian ranger (skirmisher, urban ranger) 2

Does that treasure share include selling the potions. If so, can I deduct 25 gp per potion I'd like to keep from my share. I see Jaiyana needing more healing in the near future.

I didn't factor the potions since it didn't appear twigs did.

female Chelaxian ranger (skirmisher, urban ranger) 2

Okay; awesome. I need to write up a shopping list today, it looks like, and make a decision as to whether I'm going to favor light armor (for better skill checks and speed) or medium armor (for better AC).

What do we need in the community pool for the ambush? Smokesticks, rope...??? Netting?

By the way, I think that collapsing the bridge is a dangerous idea...and attacking from under the bridge gives them the high ground. Better to just catch them from both sides, IMO.

Just so I'm on the same page, I have the

  • small Masterwork leather armor
  • the potions of CLW and the
  • three Smoke Pellets
as still in your possession and not sold with everything else.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Yup! At least by my divvying up. Though if Tavi doesn't want to lay claim to it we can sell the masterwork armour too. :)

It's betime for me so I should have a post up in the morning.

female Chelaxian ranger (skirmisher, urban ranger) 2

1 Net - 20 gp
1 Thunderstone - 30 gp
2 Alchemist Fires - 40 gp
2 Tanglefoot Bags - 100 gp
2 Holy Water - 50 gp
1 Antitoxin - 50 gp
1 Acid - 10 gp
Total = 300 gp

Or...

Composite Longbow with a +2 Str pull - 300 gp

Choices, choices. Sigh.

female Chelaxian ranger (skirmisher, urban ranger) 2

I think I am going to go with:

1 Net 20 gp
1 Smelling Salts 25 gp
1 Thunderstone 30 gp
1 Tanglefoot Bag 50 gp
1 Antitoxin 50 gp
1 Weapon Blanch, Silver 5 gp
1 Weapon Blanch, Cold Iron 20 gp
2 Holy Water
3 Alchemist's Fires 60 gp
5 Chakram 5 gp

315 gp total, if that is all right?

@Jaiyana - That is alright.

That was my question. Is there anything we'd like to pool together on (cough CLW wand)? Should we sell those CLW potions--I mean, is there a GM guarantee we'll find more? ;)

I will try and price out some items for the ambush. Seems like all we'd need are a bunch of smoke sticks, though. Ropes and axes should be laying about (right?)

I think we should get the following for the ambush:

1 thunderstone
2 smokesticks
4 saws
earplugs for everyone

We need something to stop them at the bridge--rocks, trees, wagon, something. Then we toss the thunderstone and deafen them. Smokesticks at either end of the Hellknights.

That's 110 gp and some change.

No guarantee's... but it's no secret that at least one potion of CLW has seemed to be a part of the standard Hellknight gear, if every encounter you'd had thus far is any indication. I know we're OOC but I feel I should represent the NPC's by reiterating Janivens worry that any obvious signs of ambush will run the risk of causing the Hellknights to turn back for Westcrown, for example a huge overturned carriage (or a big hewn-down tree) on a rarely traveled rode while transporting a traitor who has an unknown amount of co-conspirators. Just tossing that out there.

The road has some gentle twists and turns but they'd be able to see the bridge (and any obvious obstructions) from quite a distance, like 200'-250' or so.

It's a bunch of bruises and lacerations in the shape of a Z!

I still like the idea of using a thunderstone to deafen them--but only if the person who does it is away from any PC's horses. Hm. Maybe it's not so feasible? Horses can also be spooked by bright lights.

Not sure what the overall strategy should be. Thoughts?

I can ditch the potion of Mage Armor...Elixir of Tumbling rules, though. For 1 hour, I would be +19 for Acrobatics. I could get through any threatened or enemy square. I wish there was a wand version of that thing, because it would help alleviate the issue we have had of fighting in tight spaces.

female Chelaxian ranger (skirmisher, urban ranger) 2

I love the elixers too. My halfling cleric/monk of Yondalla in a SCAP game a couple of years back never left home without at least 3 elixers of hiding.

...now you are making me rethink my shopping list.

@Enko, things would have to progress very very slowly or go very very wrong for things to become a Zorro chase. The carriages won't turn on a dime, and Janiven's hoping that once the NPC group 'attacks' then the carriage will stop, and possibly even turn around. If they time the fake attack right when the carriage gets to the bridge, it should work how she hopes. Plans always go according to plan right?? ;)

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

Thunderstones to spook enemy horses seems like a solid plan. Let's shoot for that. No need to overcomplicate things.

If we have horses, I cant imagine we'd be keeping them too near the battle. Lucon, for one, can't ride to save his life. I'll be rolling at a -5.

I was starting to look forward to riding alongside the carriage, then leaping onto it; this would of course be followed by leaping on top of the carriage and dodging rapiers thrust through the fabric of the carriage...after a harrowing fight against an enormous broadsword wielder, I appear to fall off, only to cling to the underside of the carriage...

Just need a hat and a bullwhip, and a map of Tanis...

-clears head- Cool, Mug, and I appreciate the OOC discussion about this, because it would be hard to simulate ambush plans IC in the Gameplay thread. :)

Twigs, yeah, I think we'd have our horses at a distance. No need to spook/deafen our rides.

I'm surprised at the pace we got to level 2. My year-old Second Darkness game moves at practically the same pace (with much less combat and more interparty drama) and my bard STILL cant inspire competance. It's a refreshing change of pace.

I'm glad your good with it, other than keeping track of your XP myself, the pace is pretty much by the book. Plus you guys have done a poop-ton of xp-worthy things. After one of the last random encounters I was starting to wonder if I should level you before you even made it out of the sewers! I'm glad I didn't though, I'd feel bad if you guys started to feel OP. ;)

In case people are wondering what we're waiting for, I've had a few people give me their level 2 updates, and a few people state their readiness to continue on. I'd like everyones updates and a few more folks to express their readiness before the story continues. This is not a plea to hurry up, just an explanation for the possibly-impatient among us.

@Twigs/Lucon, I forgot your question on your fort save bonuses and you are right, +2 for rest and +4 with the aid another. I do need one more save, and you can attempt it anytime. You don't need to wait till tomorrow. Your save after waking was Lucons effort to overcome the symptoms and get a leg up on the fever, the second save will be to see if he kicked the fever completely or not.

M Human Commoner/1, Expert/1

I think. I never truly made up my mind about that feat, but step-up is as good as any for now. I'm leery of taking weapon focus before I stumble on a weapon that's a keeper. I'd rather evolve a bit more organically.

So consider Lucon ready to go! I've made my purchases and ajusted my sheet.

I added the scroll of mount as an 'oh s~~! I need to run away' in case he loses his mount. So he'll learn shocking grasp and obscuring mist (because he doesn't have enough time to learn all 3), and save mount to learn later. If he has to use it to save his hide, he will.

Male **Smuggler's Shiv Hex Map** Mad Scientest - Level Absolute **Smuggler's Shiv Editable Map**

Hey all. Sorry for being AWOL lately. I just started management training, and it is a 3 week process, and I am training with a real hard ass (super great guy, just a machine when it comes to work). For the last 2 weeks I was closing AND opening, every day.

Now I am happy to report that I am doing only *one* of those a day instead of two.

I am also happy to report that I am getting a Google Nexus 7 tablet when it comes out, so I won't be having to fight with my "smart" phone to get a post out here and there between breaks.

I took my 2nd level in inquisitor, and I nearly have every skill on the books - and have all of the knowledges covered.

Sorry, and I'm glad to be back.

Well welcome back to the area! Thanks for the level update.

Myself as well. I had a family wedding to attend this weekend and I just got back last night.

If this is a simple snatch and grab then all we really need to do is scare the enemy mounts and bust him out, ride off like heroes.
