Aboard the vessel, Taissa makes herself useful and aids Kat in any way to attempt to keep the ship afloat. She puts her back into bailing out the bilges and re-caulking the damaged beams, staving off the cold in the process. Being aboard a sinking ship was not want Taissa had signed up for, but she would not give up hope that her companions would protect them from their position on land, giving them time to fix the crack in the hull. Least Daya could fly if the ship could not be repaired and took on too much water.

Looking across to Kat, Taissa asks, "What creatures live on this side of the coastline? Will the others be safe out there?"

Dain DM, can Taissa fashion some warm covering/cape for Daya using the winter blanket, giving her some kind of bonus against the cold?

Kristin glances toward the coast, her studying it with a careful examination.

She glances at Daya on the deck and frowns a bit, seeing the bird in the cold air.

”Oye, Tass - take a quick break and go below – there should be a small stove or something forward used to cook the foodstuffs on this tub. Let’s see if we can’t get it lit up with a small fire to warm things up. Hopefully when the others return the ship will be warm enough,” she says.

When Taissa returns from that task, if she is willing, Kristin moves to work with Taissa, doing what she can to aid in the damage to the ship.

Kristin grins a little.

”Aye – they ship’s log calls it The Scorpion,” she says with a dry chuckle. Then, taking out a set of carpentry tools, she begins to work on the beams with a sure and practiced hand which reveals her training.

She glances at the coast for a bit, studying it, watching the others a moment.

”It’s hard to say… at this time of year most of the threats should have moved to hole-up somewhere safe and warm. Still, there’re occasional issues that pop up,” she adds, pausing in her work.

”North of Beacon the threats are either rogue humans from the towns of Riddleport or the errant Shoanti barbarian looking to take some easy loot.”

”To the north and east of Beacon there are the broken rocks and mountains… There you’ll see orc tribes hitting the Shoanti folk, and depending on the weather you’ll see sometimes giants come down from the hills – from time to time.”

She turns to look at Taissa thoughtfully, pausing in her work a bit.

”Don’t you know that on the southern coasts there are many roving bands of goblin tribes?” she says, glancing at Taissa.

”They normally cling to the swamps which bisect the coast and the lands south of Beacon in general, but they come out to raid once and a while," she adds.

”I don’t know if there’re any tribes here, though… nothing in Johny’s log from last time he passed by; but they pop up like rats, so who knows?”

She studies the coast intently for a moment.

”Still, I’m hoping that we can find some human folks in this place… this is a good place for fishing, so if humans live nearby it’s likely they’d make small village maybe up in the forest a bit and send down scouts or skiffs to that bay there… the only problem is that I don’t see no docks or nothing to launch a skiff… but what can be done?”

She spits aft then stares at the coast again.

”Right now I’m hoping we can at least find some lads to buy some supplies from, or at least a little game heading down to the waterline… but I don’t know what will happen next,” she adds.

Taissa gently motioned Daya below deck and followed, setting up an appropriate fire in the stove and instructing her to stay and keep warm.

She returned to Kat's side.

The Scorpion. Appropriate name. "Let's hope we don't succumb to the venom of the ship's sting. Damn water-soaked grain." Taissa shook her head but was relieved that the sacks were deposited overboard before they could do more damage.

Taissa looked out, across the 20 fathoms to the coastline, scanning the area hoping to gauge something to aid the others and those remaining on the ship.

Perception: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (13) + 9 = 22

She looked up, to the heavens, to determine the duration of the snowstorm; hoping it would not continue too long and hamper their movement and work.

Survival (to predict weather): 1d20 + 10 ⇒ (6) + 10 = 16

When Kat asked if she was aware of the roving goblin tribes on the south coast, Taissa shook her head. "No, I am not familiar with all of Varisia. I wonder if the others know of the goblins."

She pondered the information Kat had given her and added, "I will take a small fishing village over orcs, goblins and ogres."

Watching Kat perform work on the beams and not having any formal experience at such tasks herself, Taissa attempts to imitate the pilot's actions as best as she can or be of assistance to Kat by bringing required tools and such to her.

Looking at the figure of The Seahawk in the distance, Taissa enquired, "Do we send further message to Captain John and Ren or wait to see what the others discover?"

Kat glances at Taissa’s work with the carpentry tools, suitably impressed with her handling.

”Not bad... not bad at all...” she says with open sincerity.

Taissa Sloane wrote:

Kristin glances to the east and studies the water, seeing the ship moving toward them and shrugs.

”I reckon Johnny’s moving as fast as he can… not much more we can do about that. I reckon he should be here in about an hour or so…”

Taissa looks at the storm clouds. She can see that the snow is moving hard and fast, but is pushing eeper to the south. It seems that the ships have narrowly passed the worst of the storm as it keeps moving down over the seas.

Taissa Sloane wrote:

Kristin grins.

”I don’t know… goblins aren’t very hardy, but they’re dangerous… they have a tendency to swarm… like lice. If there are any of them out there, it could be trouble. They move faster than smaller creatures and they’re damn nasty to fight – if there’s a lot of them.”

She turns to Taissa and grins.

”But I doubt that’ll be a problem… I mean, hell – what're the odds that the crew’ll run into a horde of goblins hiding in the trees?” she says with a little chuckle and roll of her eyes at the thought of something so preposterous.

Taissa warmed beneath the pilot's praise. But unaccustomed to such praise, all Taissa could do was mumble a quiet, husky, "I prefer being useful." But she gave Kat a small, friendly smile.

The smile quickly disappeared with the sobering thought of the goblins. The idea of swarming goblins ran a new kind of chill down Taissa's spine.

"Let's hope our lot are smart enough to retreat to the ship before that happens. We have higher ground here. They just have to move across the 120 feet first."

"It's a pity this vessel has no weapons on board. I have my (composite) shortbow and will aid the fight from the ship as best as I can."

Taissa hoped Captain John and his crew on The Seahawk would get to them before they found themselves in real trouble.

Kristin looks at Taissa, then turns her gaze to the shore.

"Blessed gods above!" she mutters with a hoarse curse.

"Gods damn it! And Johnny's nearly an hour off - we'll either be alive or dead by the time he gets here... and that'll happen in the next few minutes..."

Kristin's eyes narrow.

"Yeah - I wonder what the hell those whores where thinking, sailing without weapons," she mutters in disgust.

Her mind suddenly registers your comment about the bow and she shakes her head.

"Belay that - help me with the anchor - if we sail a few hundred feet to shore they may be able to get back here... Plus, maybe the site of the ship moving in on them will make those buggers piss their pants and run off..."

"But I guess we'll see... Help me with the damn anchor - we got to move in to lend a hand!" she says fiercely rushing to the anchor.

[b]"Need a combined Strength rolls of 50 to get it fully out. Just roll a d20 with strength modifier and add them all together. Once they reach 50 the anchor is up and you can move in closer to help.[/ooc]

Kristin rolls a total of 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (9) + 1 = 10 so you only have to get 40 more points. You should do it in the next round or so - hopefully. Then it's only a sailing check to get to shore and help your allies better.

Taissa quickly scrambles to get the anchor up and the ship moving again.

Strength check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11
Strength check: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (9) + 2 = 11

(10+21+11+11=53. So anchor is out.)

Once the anchor is out of the water and secured back on The Scorpion, Taissa follows Kat's orders to aid the ship in moving toward the shore and her beleaguered companions.

Round 1 you scored a total of 31. On round 2 you get 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (17) + 1 = 18 and have a total of 49.

You automatically succeed on Round 3.

Round 4 you are able to make your Profession Sailing Check and you can move the ship forward via one Full Round Action for a total of 60 feet for ship's speed.

So at the end of Round 4 you are now only 60 feet from the shore. However, Kristin ersponds to you...

"Oye - we can't get much closer or this thing might run aground! Take a shot and I'll see if I can drop anchor to get things as close as we can get," she adds.

On round 5 you're 60 feet from the shore and able to attack. The formal "Shoreline" is at line X, so you're formally 60 feet from line X at this point. If the party has survived to round 5, you'll be able to be acting during that round.

The anchor is slowly lifted and as you haul it in Kristin looks at the coast, then you.

"Gods damn - they'll be slaughtered for sure! Why didn't they run for the boat when they had the chance?" she says, her face lined with tension.

Kristin turns and glances at Taissa.

"You think your pal Daya can help them out?" she says, adrenaline in her voice...

Taissa - your final action this round (end of Round 3) is to finish with the anchor. However, as "Free Action" you could ask Daya to move to help, if you'd like.

At a double move she could arrive on the map. On Team Good's turn on Round 4 she'd appear at Y:35 to make her next move. Is that something you'd like to do? She'd be able to attack on Round 4, if she left now.

It's your call...

Dain DM:
Okay, to start off with, The Scorpion was initially anchored 120 feet from shore (20 fathoms). Daya can fly 80ft. If she takes a double move, she covers 160 ft, so how is it she will only be at Y:35 at the beginning of round 4? You mentioned that line X was the shoreline. So, I am confused. Please clarify.

My bad - I forgot you were closer than that. So yes - actually, if you have her leave at round 3 she could fly 120 feet to line W and then keep flying. However, if she does a Double Move she can't attack until round 4. So you could bring her right up to the enemy to attack them, but not attack them, then the enemy goes. Or you could bring her up on round 3 to position her where you want to (out of enemy reach) then the enemy can attack on top of round 4, and she'd be right there.

So yeah - she could get to the enemy on round 3 via a double move, but she can't attack until round 4. Hope it helps...

Taissa whistles and calls down to Daya and she moves back to the upper deck.

"They're surrounded. They should have retreated to the ship. Please fly and aid them. When we're close enough with the ship, I will try to shoot the goblins with my bow. Be careful, Daya. If it is too much, fly back. Don't risk your life needlessly."

Daya screeches and lifts to the air. Once in the sky she flies in a quiet manner toward the shoreline.

She will fly 120 ft to W:35 and hover above the shoreline (at a safe distance) for the right time to swoop in and attack the goblins. She wants to observe how the goblins fight first.

Ren turns a nasty look at John, who merely laughs, and then he turns back to you.

”I would be happy to speak with you; of course,” he says with a small smile.

”Where would you like to talk?” he adds, knowing that – as both ships are relatively small – there is very little room on either for much private conversation.

He seems a bit nervous, though, as if uncertain on how to proceed.

Taissa, looked confused still. She had not meant to draw Ren away from the others, just to have his company as she worked or watched over the ocean.

In lowered voice, huskier than usual, she asked the First Mate, "I was not drawing you away from the others. I simply like talking to you as we work. I am confused why the captain laughed at me. Have I done, or, said something wrong?"

The way of people was fraught with traps. That is why she preferred the company of animals - she simply understood them better.

Pushing fly-away tendrils of hair from her face, Taissa walked a few paces forward, away from the captain, Ella and Kat, hoping Ren would know to follow.

"I have no set subject to talk about. I like when we simply talk. The day was long and the cold attempts to make bones ache. You are nice to me, and after the battle, I...I just wanted a little solace through company." The words, human words, were hard on her senses. Taissa wondered if she stumbled awkwardly and made no sense with her expression. She sighed low, the air misting before her from the cold.

Raw Sense Motive: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (6) + 1 = 7 Okay, so she's pretty clueless what is going on right now and why the captain was laughing and Ren nervous, blushing etc ...

Taissa Sloane wrote:
"I was not drawing you away from the others. I simply like talking to you as we work. I am confused why the captain laughed at me. Have I done, or, said something wrong?"

Ren turns a small scowl to John.

”No, I believe the laughter you hear is directed at me, not you,” he says shaking his head, and turns to look at her.

”When we younger I had been rather… that is to say... I was proud of the knowledge I possessed. My education, my learning; proud of the skills I learned from reading and studying.”

He sighs.

”As we grew together I observed that he was less interested in reading and study. His time was spent observing people – watching them; understanding their behavior and their patterns.”

”Growing up together we would have… contests… with each other; trying to prove, if you will, who had the superior mind – the greater skill; such contests and matches that young boys will often have with each other.”

He glances at Taissa.

”If we had a chessboard between us; or if we had an examination which demanded that we recite a list of coordinates from charts or facts regarding history... I would easily best him at these tests.”

”But...” he pauses, grinning a bit sheepishly ”when it comes to the ability to read people; to guess their hearts and minds….” he shakes his head ”in that, his skill far exceeds mine,” he says.

”He suspected that you wished to speak to me, but not simply because you wanted a lesson or instructions, but for more… personal reasons,” he adds with a somewhat helpless shake of his head.

”And that – further – for all my education I could not decipher your intentions… that is why he laughed, I believe,” he concludes with a sigh.

Taissa Sloane wrote:
"I have no set subject to talk about. I like when we simply talk. The day was long and the cold attempts to make bones ache.”

Ren nods a bit.

”Yes; well – the standard temperatures are far more frigid near the water; the moisture rising to create a greater chill that causes higher pressure on the bones and muscles; which in turns creates pain in the bones,” he says in a matter of fact voice, then glances at Taissa, realizing that his conversation was – perhaps – rather dull, no matter how educated it may seem.

He clears his throat and glances at her, trying to read her features.

”I am no poet; I do not know the means to woo women – I have… for all my learning I do not have the skill to entice people,” he says a bit helplessly.

”Tell me – why is it that you would wish to spend time with me, if not for the education I possess or the skills I can share with you?” asking her directly.

Taissa Sloane wrote:
"You are nice to me, and after the battle, I...I just wanted a little solace through company."

His eyes widen a bit at the statement, and he smiles at Taissa a bit more sincerely.

”Ah! Well… I confess – you are a very intriguing woman, I… well – that is to say…” he clears his throat.

”I enjoy your company, too. Just being near you makes me feel good as well…” he says a bit quieter and moves to Taissa, standing close to her under the starlight.

Taissa listened to Ren as he explained the past between he and John. They were a pack of two, separate and distinct to the rest of their crew.

When Ren began explaining the cold temperature and its effect on bones and muscles, Taissa wondered at it but listened without interrupting. She knew what he was saying -- already knowing such a thing about weather and nature -- but she did not say so to him as she did not want to make him feel bad.

When he spoke of poetry, her brow furrowed, "I have no need for poets. I have no want of such formal words."

He spoke of wooing. Why? Who was he trying to entice? Me? No. Her mind was fast with silent pondering.

Then Ren smiled at her when she said she had sought solace after distress. He said she was intriguing. I am? Male people were disturbing to the mind.

He then moved beside her, close enough for Taissa to feel the warmth radiating from him, in the cold. He enjoyed her company. That was good.

"Then why is it their concern if we stand and talk together? If it makes us feel better?"

Taissa Sloane wrote:

Ren looks at her with a little embarrassed expression but he shakes his head.

"As I said, I do not know how to read people very well... I do not know why it would be their concern, or if they are concerned with us one way or the other," he says, unsure.

He thinks for a moment, noticing her relative silence, watching her and trying to understand her, then smiles a little.

"If you are happy and content to simply stand with me in silence and simply enjoy the stars... well, if that is what pleases you, than that makes me happy and content as well," he says, moving to stand close to you in the chill night air.

Taissa draws in a breath and slowly releases it; relishing the clear night sky and its many stars.

"I do not know if you have noticed this about me, but I don't talk endlessly. If words need to be said, I speak them, if not, I simply enjoy the bounty provided by the Spirits." Lifting her hand to gesture to the stars and the world around them.

"There was a moment, today, where I wasn't certain if we would survive to see the night. I have, and now I am content to share it with you until duty calls or bed." Taissa cranes her head back and after a moment closes her eyes and smiles. (This is possibly the most relaxed Ren has seen Taissa, apart from when she's with her animals.)

"Praise the Spirits," she says in whisper.

Ren looks at Taissa thoughtfully, as if trying to gauge if she meant more than what she said – as if there was a hidden message beneath her words.

If there is, he clearly cannot fathom it, and he eventually nods his head.

”Aye… the stars are indeed peaceful,” he says, considering the poetry of the stars his mother had taught him as a boy. But as she did not care for poetry, he decides to say nothing instead and merely enjoy the moment with her.

Taissa turned her head slightly and watched Ren, his profile and countenance against the starlit canopy. He seemed confounded by something, yet held his tongue.

Taissa did not mind the silence but she wondered if Ren preferred talk. So, she told him something from her past,

"I came across a old, widowed farmer, once, in the River Kingdoms. He'd spent his life ploughing his small parcel of land. Each night, before bed, he would sit outside and look at the sky and its stars. He told me, "What fills the eye, fills the heart". I remember those words on solitary nights."

Ren's arm was close enough to hers that she could brush up against it if she wanted to. It had been a long time since she was held by another. Even when she was young, very little tenderness was shown to her from her mother's people. But she watched people and their natural affection for one another. Taissa felt that way with her animals and they her. She wondered if Ren ever felt isolated and detached. He had been fortunate in his friendship with John. Taissa never had people friends when she was younger. She wondered if any of the companions she sailed with understood what that meant or felt like.

"I did not have people who cared about me. Only Daya." Her low, husky admission was said unto the open air.

Ren nods, his expression veiled somewhat in the starlight, but he seems to understand her statement.

”That recalls to my mind poetry…” he responds, but says nothing more for a moment, as if thinking.

”When I was young I was not very well received… our kind rarely is...”

He sighs, thinking a little, then continues...

”Before I met with John I was by myself most of the time. I rarely mingled with other children; we did not get along well… In truth, I did not have many friends. In fact, my only true friends were books… I suppose it was because I couldn’t relate well to other people, but I never felt alone when I read tales or studied ancient lore.”

”For me, poetry, tales, lore, legends, facts… these were my best friends. I could relate to all of them.”

He smiles a little, this time his expression more obvious.

”John’s mother sort of adopted me; she brought me into her home – on his say-so; he convinced his mother to take me in, and she accepted… she was never like a proper mother to me, more like a loving aunt, I suppose – but John… to me – he is the closest thing to a brother that I have ever had. He is family to me – he makes me feel like I have a place with him.”

”I sense the same is true with the beasts that you spend time with, yes?”

Taissa Sloane wrote:
"I did not have people who cared about me. Only Daya." Her low, husky admission was said unto the open air.

He nods.

”Ah! I understand that very well…” he says, than is quiet for a moment.

”I cannot tell you to step beyond the friendship of Daya, but I will instead say that when we let ourselves experience new things it can be very risky – but it has the potential for something very special,” he says looking at her with suddenly bright eyes under the starlight.

Suddenly he moves very close to her, and places his hand on her arm gently, and looks into her eyes.

By the sea and stars, you are beautiful…

Despite his somewhat nervous nature in the past, his elven seems far more confident and almost somewhat fierce. He does not move from Taissa's side but continues to stand close to her after his whispered words, his hand resting gently on her arm.

Ren with his books and she with roaming the outdoors and her animals. Opposites, yet easy in the other's company.

"I am not as book learned as you, Ren. My time, in main, was spent outside, roaming the forest, talking with animals, playing and learning alongside them. Watching people. And then I was on my own from a young age. There is something good about your friendship with John. I did not have people friends. Just the animals and the Spirits."

When he looked at her with shining eyes and suggested she open herself to other possibilities, Taissa grew nervous at the prospect. She did not possess to easy, carefree disposition of Suny and her words were not soft or eloquent.

She nodded her head to show Ren she understood his meaning and that she would attempt to make people friends.

When he moved closer and placed a hand on her arm, she looked up and wondered at the meaning. Upon his praise of her beauty, she was utterly taken aback and rendered mute for a few seconds, listening to her rapid heartbeat.

She managed a quiet, embarrassed,

in the Elven tongue. It had been some time since she'd spoken Elven. She did not know how to react or respond. None had paid her such a compliment.

"You are generous in your praise. I do not hear such words often."

She moved slightly away from him, not from revile, but from inexperience and confusion.

Response:

As Taissa moves away from Ren, his eyes look intently at hers in the shadows of the starlight.

He watches her carefully as she moves from him.

”John has taught me many things. Before I knew him I grew to learn much of my elven bloodline. But when I lived with John, when I spent time with him – I began to learn more of my human side; my human blood,” he says with a serious voice.

”You have that blood in you as well; it stirs within both of us, more so than elves. When it blossoms within our breast it causes us to act beyond logic and training,” he says to you.

”I feel now my human blood stir within me – when I see you now my blood is moved,” he says moving closer to you, staring into your eyes.

”You have tread the paths through glades and fen; through wilds and wilderness – do you not feel your blood stir in you as well?” he asks.

Taissa's eyes flashed an intense blue at Ren's proximity and questioning.

Taissa moved a few steps back until she was closer to the mainmast.

"My blood stirs for many things. The talk is getting strange now, Ren. Let us talk of other things."

What had gotten into Ren? Taissa mused silently, unsure of what to say next.

Response:

Ren’s eyes instantly cool and widen in surprise.

He pauses a moment to study the intensity in her eyes and her desire to quickly move away from him; noting both her obvious anger and seeming desire to be far away from him after he was honest with his feelings.

”Apologies,” he says after a moment.

”It seems that I let my base emotions stir within me and the result is that I upset you. It was not my intention at all,” he adds with a polite nod of his head.

Seeing that she has decided to move away and looks very angry at his action, he seems a bit embarrassed and glances to the sky briefly.

”The hour is late – no doubt it is what has prompted such words… I am sorry for them; I had no idea that any of that would happen,” he says.

”I do not want to cause you further distress and it seems that I may do so even without meaning to. Therefore, I bid you a good evening,” he adds with a polite bow, then turns and heads to bed.

She wasn't angry at Ren. She was unsure and anxious and didn't know what to do. Remember she's a girl who's lived on her own and has never been in love or lust ... and she barely knows Ren. She likes him and feels comfortable around him but to jump into anything more would be too rash at present and wouldn't make much sense. Taissa is like a skittish horse right now.

"Ren, stop." She did not understand people. She took a step forward, toward Ren.

"I am not angered or in need of apology. You and I are just beginning to know one another and I do not want to rush the learning. Please understand."

Taissa throws her hands out in loss of words.

"I am not good with emotions. I mean no disrespect to what you have said. I ... all I know is me and my animals."

She waits and if he still wants to leave, then she will let him go.

Response:

Ren also has trouble with such emotions. Remember; he’s spent most of his life with books and almost none his experience with women comes from anyone except John’s mother, who seems to have been like a kind matron who was like a loving aunt (he didn’t learn much about girls from her; except for social skills such as Cotillion and other such frippery). Anything else he learned about how to act around girls has only come from John, a rather successful “ladies man” when he wants to be, and if a person is not very skilled socially, learning how to act around girls from a “ladies man” is probably a bad combination.

As Taissa has the skill Diplomacy as a Class Skill I’m assuming that she knows these things about him and the interaction already. Meanwhile, it seems likelyt hat Ren had assumed that as Taissa spent more time with animals that if she liked him her interest for him would be more "animal like" and she’d be more aggressive with her passion. But his assumptions come only from reading, not personal experience. For now it's a learning experience for each of them, it seems.

Taissa Sloane wrote:

Ren does stop.

”Ah,” he says, clearly at a loss for words and how to proceed, but he does stop his retreat to bed.

”Um… well, the fault is mine – I should have remembered your experience and upbringing; such words and actions were likely inappropriate at this time,” he says, stumbling over his words a bit, trying to figure out what to say or do.

He does not head to bed then, but instead he will wait on the deck. For now he does not move over to her, not sure if getting close to her again will be a good idea at this time, or if it might possibly upset her.

She watched Ren halt his leave and wait on the deck for her answer? action? What did he want from her?

"I will think on what you have said this night, Ren. My head is full at present and I need time to comprehend my feelings."

She wondered if that was enough to show him she was not rejecting him.

Taking a slow step forward again, Taissa reached out her hand and touched Ren's hand, letting it linger for a second or two before withdrawing it.

"I bid you a good night. We will talk again tomorrow."

Taissa's fair cheeks were reddened - not only from the cold wind but her shyness/anxiety due to inexperience.

Retcon and decision time re the goblin (just after 2.30pm, aboard Scorpion).

After stepping foot on the Scorpion's deck and checking with Daya and the goblin, Taissa met with the others to hear word on Polux's interrogation.

"Polux, did you learn anything more from the goblin? Will he earnestly aid us or mean to cross us?"

I read the conversation between Polux and Snaga but since Taissa wasn't present at that point, I thought I'd let Polux tell us and then proceed from there? I hope this is okay.

Taissa - I think I made a mistake in what I wrote yesterday.

My assumption was now that the goblin was awake, with the rest of the new recruits there and Ren there as well, and with people like Hack speaking about making raids on goblin dens in front of the goblin, and people like Ren thinking about goblin tactics aloud in front of the goblin, that everyone who was interested would have done follow-up questions at this time to the goblin at the same time, with everyone there at the same time.

I did not intend to ret-con any further developments between you, Polux, and the goblin. That wasn't my plan; I'm sorry, I should have made that clear sooner.

That was my fault completely. I apologize for any misunderstanding, I am late for work, but I will do what I can later tonight. Sorry again for any confusion.

During the initial interrogation of the goblin, Taissa had been present, and sensed the creature had been honest in his answers. After she left for town, she was not sure what was said or promised by the goblin to Polux, but the Captain seemed to approve of the goblin now.

"Polux, tell us where the goblin's skills lie. I know I would like to hear what they are. You have said you like Snaga. But do you trust in what he has said so far?"

"He has claimed quite a lot - and neither you nor me have detected any deceivement in his voice" - he ponders for a moment - "Not that I have ever been very good at reading other's intentions. But I am getting better at it" - he adds.

"Anyways, he claims to be ready to fight and sail for us - that one is quite straightforward, that he is good with locks - at least he was with the manacles, I gotta admit. What else..? He seems to be able to extract and concoct poisons, not that I see any immediate use that I would like to give to such a thing, though it may be handy - some sort of 'knockout' poison can go a long way in my book"

Mulling it over some more, he continues - "Able to craft healing draughts he said - like the foul ones we drank back at the beach. The next one... I am not quite sure - he claimed he could 'see the trick of words that few know – show me book, show me word, I will break that secret for you, or help you do it' - not fully sure what he meant by that though"

Looking back at the group, he finishes - "Last but not least, he considers himself capable of tracking and hunting, and that he would be able to take us to other goblins if we so wished - as apparently they mean nothing to him, since they are not his tribe, and instead used to make war against his, almost wiping it out. That would be his reason to have sided with the half-orc - survival"

The next thought actually brings a hint of a smile to Polux's lips - "And he was ready to go down fighting - of course it could have been a last attempt of a doomed creature, but he asked that if he was to die, that we would give him a weapon and fought him, so that he would not simply be executed - 'like a snake' - he said, or something along those lies. Quite feisty, the little one"

He shrugs at the others - "And that was it, if I remember correctly. Left me curious, I gotta admit"

"The goblin healing draughts were foul and could leave one sickly thereafter. Mayhap if we are desperate for such potions, we can apply his skill then. The poisons used to put creatures to sleep may be useful. Such poison was used this day on the arrows shot at Daya and Zayna. I took a vial of the poison from the dead Northman. I would see Snaga's poison work overseen by one of us at all times. Ren mentioned the goblin dens, and, if Snaga is not attached to the other hordes, then having him track their locations with ease would help us work toward fulfilling the Regent's plan for a safer Beacon."

Taissa pondered the other skills the goblin had boasted of. "To be able to break a cipher in a missive or book, would be of benefit, and if Snaga can readily see such patterns, then we will not waste time and energy and can direct it elsewhere. We seem to encounter numerous mysteries on this quest we've been drawn into."

"His loyalty can be acquired by another through sheer force and power. That doesn't leave me with much faith in his abiding allegiance. But if you feel his talents are enough to give him a chance, then I shall support your decision. But if he betrays us just once, there will be a dire consequence for the goblin."

And then, as a quick afterthought, "Snaga will not be included in the equal share of loot. We may grant him a portion, if he has aided us, during a battle or quest. In time, if we can indeed trust him, we can change the distribution, if it is warranted. We have crafting supplies he can use and any other can be purchased with ship coin, if it is required."

"I think for the time being, he has no other option but to abide by the decisions we make - at least until he has proved himself" - Polux nods in agreement with Taissa - "I will actually be surprised if we find that many skill sets in a goblin - but I think it worth a shot" - he reiterates to his companion - "Thank you for backing me up" - then turns to the others - "Stefan and Hack, what say you?"

Are you guys having this conversation in front of Snaga and Ren, or independent of them?
