We have all played good roleplaying games, or maybe you haven't I don't know. I have even Dmed a couple of roleplaying games.
This however is for people who just want to unwind and do only combats. And yes skill checks outside of combat will happen. No exploration, no chatting with NPCs, storyline is simple. Just only combats.
Questions and Answers.
1. Why are you running this? For people that want to unwind. It gives them a chance to be in another campaign without really having to keep track of their character's personality or what is going on with the story. Also people are waiting for their DM to post in their other game(s). This gives you something to do while you are waiting, as you will always be busy.
2. Why 5th edition? It is easier, plus you are in for a pleasant surprise.
3. Is it really only combat? Yes and of course occassional skill checks. You are in a library, everyone roll me a perception check to find the secret book, or the floor is collapsing, roll me a dexterity saving throw.
4. So deception and persuasion is not important? They are, you just won't be speaking. Roll me a persuasion saving throw when I call for it, success means you make an NPC your ally.
5. What about treasures? You will get them, you will even have time to buy and sell stuff. And you will get magic items too.
6. Do you not like roleplay, storylines, exploration or interaction? I have played and Dmed several games that require roleplay and the other things, and I will continue to do so, I have decided, that this will be my one game doing only combats for people who want it, relaxed Dming without a lot of thought.
7. Maps? No, last time I tried to do a map, someone hacked the site I had it on, so I will just describe the battle scene.
8. Character Creation? 27 point buy, players handbook and swords coast only.
9. When will it start? If I get enough interest, and when I get enough characters.
10. So what is the special treat/prize for participating? That is a secret, stick with me and find out. You might find it worthless, others will like it.

Yes, it Pbp style and I'll take characters as soon as you can get them.
Another thing this does is teach players the basics of 5e. While it does not teach them how to roleplay, there are plenty of players out there who cannot go to adventures league or some other 5th edition adventure not AVL or would like to play the rogue, but have never got a chance.
If you are new to 5e, just tell me what you want to play and I'll help you through it, I'll even help with character creation.
I do this, because it is the easiest way to teach people too. If later on, these new people get down the combat part and mechanics part, I'll decide to run an actual adventure of some sort for them where they can roleplay and explore.
This is meant to target beginners that just want to learn the mechanics, but really bored experts that already know how to play are free to join as well.

Interested, of course. Not much into 5ed lore, but playing a PbP game right now. So this is a big chance for:
· Trying something different. Knowing what other classes can do is key to hone your performance. Or
· Testing. As this will probably have a faster advance rate, would be nice to know what capabilities I will have in the future, and which are good or bad choices.
Lemme sleep on it and I'll come up with something.

I'll confess I'm interested. I just need to know if there's a minimum posting amount, since I've got summer courses for 9 hours a day, at least until next thursday when mercifully one of my classes is over (the other one following the week after).
Basically I just want to get the hang of 5th edition, haven't had the chance to play it yet, and I've been jonesing hard on an Old One/Tome warlock (or whatever they call the options, been a while since I looked).

I'd like to throw a fighter in I think. Could do with some rollplay on the side.
I remember as a kid I had some hard plastic dinosaur figures which had decent detailing and were cheap. They were unpainted but next to the smaller minis just being cardboard standees, that reallly wouldn't be a problem.
Just the fact that I had those tells me there would be a way to make something like that economically viable, provided there are people who would buy it of course.

I know people are still making character, but the first part is just skill checks, fill free to make them.
You are investigating an underground cave for ancient treasure.
When you start, roll me a persuasion check or history check to know things about this cave and the more you know, the easier combats will be as gain knowledge about the terrain and what is there, it makes stealth easier, and you go faster through the cave and saving time prevents a lot of things.
Then roll a strength check to get into the cave, as you clear out the entrance. Then roll a dexterity saving throw with advantage if you get a 20 strength roll or get above a 15 with history or persuasion. If you fail all of these, then just roll me a dexterity saving throw, no advantage.
If the anyone in the party reaches a 20 on history or persuasion, you know so much, you get to roll stealth for the first combat and with advantage to get a surprise round on the enemy.
If no one in the party reaches a 20, the first combat is done normally.

actually, I think I'll wait for the warlock.
Any idea what kind of terrain we'll be fighting in? The only other build I've been wanting to play was basically a grapple build, which is dependent on terrain (cliffs, traps, and such), and party composition.
The first terrain will be a cave slightly underground. The second terrain will be deep underground, with like a whole world being underground.
@Jereru, that is fine. Join us when you see fit. You might miss the first combat or two, but that is about it.

Are you still accepting characters?
I would love to do a rogue or a ranger.
I'm an old grognard, 0e/1e guy, but really want to get into 5e.
I own the core rulebooks and the Sword Coast guide, but not familiar enough with it to know where to find factions.
I can post once per day. I'm already in a Trail of Cthulhu game on these boards.
Let me know.
Thanks!
Keith

Here is a link to the character I just created, with a little help from an online 5E character generator. I have DMed the Starter Set module with my son, but the session fizzled after 5 or 6 sessions because it was just too hard to run Lost Mines of Phandelver with only one player-one DM.
Anyway, here is a link to the PDF of my character sheet.
If you can accept another character, and this looks okay, I will transcribe it as an alias to my Pathfinder profile.
Thanks,
Keith

If this gets reinvigorated I will create my alias. Ergo is a 1st-level Human Ranger who had a bad experience with an aberration when he was exploring a cave that (little to his knowledge) was an entrance to the Underdark.
He loves to play dice games, but spends most of his time in the woods because if he goes to town he goes to the pub, and if he goes to the pub he gets drunk because he saw something in that cave that makes him want to drink.
