Also, DRAGONS EVERYWHERE!

"Unusual Characters Welcome" has never been so true. (And with all these half-somethings, the name Halfblood is in much the same position.)

New page, new link for convenience. Yao Mihara

DM, question for you: The "Extremely Fashionable" trait requires that the person be wearing fine clothing and jewelry worth at least 150 gp.

Do the 200 gp Sleeves of Many Garments count, if they're transformed into clothes with sufficient value?

*Dragon comes roaring into the place, crashing into the wall*

"It's fine, he's my cousin."

Also, here's Selena! Half human, half succubus, half naked.

yep Mighty Godlin is the class, do we have a deadline. Work got busy today, may not get to fluff and backstory till the weekend.

The deadline is on Sunday, but I don't remember the time.

Could I start out playing a Dragon Wyrmling, probably a silver dragon.

How would that work with templates, class levels etc?

Dark Archive

You know, I hate to do this, but I really just can't think of a good way to put together my psuedo-Graveknight that feels right.

However, that two-headed template gyrfalcon linked sounds super fun, so I think I'm going to throw together some kind of two-headed troll or ogre bloodrager.

Lady Rosa - Sorry to hear that, your character was potentially fun.

Seth86 - Basically, I need to see a good reason why you would function well. A code of conduct against hurting those that haven't earned your ire, instructions to follow the rules and laws set by your fellows, etc. I suggest reading Master Arminas' posts starting here for a really good example of an evil character functioning in a good aligned party.

gytfalcon - I can see the appeal. I'd like to see some stuff in your race that doesn't give you a direct edge in combat, though - even Aasimar have Skilled in there profile.

Tik Klik - Hmmm...would you object to swapping out the full construct for Half Construct, to represent being made from living wood, and having the Treespeech (essentially Speak with Plants is always on) and Toxic (once a day plus your con bonus you can poison your attacks)? Again, full construct immunities are a bit much. And not being able to be healed worries me.

Cydrius - I admit, I wasn't expecting quite so much weirdness. But I like it. It fits the idea I have. And yes, that will work for Extremely Fashionable. I like that trait.

Ashe - Sunday at midnight is last submissions.

Bane88 - A full blooded dragon? No, even a Wrymling is CR6. There are a few lizardy races that might strike your fancy, however?

Seranov - Since Gyrfalcon is going the monstrous route, you might wanna look at the Taddol which are essentially two headed Elves and excellent two weapon fighters, with there racial feats allowing you to duel wield one handed weapons without penalty.

I think the fact that you required a template probably opened the floodgates of wacky characters.

It's pretty hard to make something anything close to mundane while using a template, unless you're cheesing it off by picking the Advanced template, or somesuch.

I tried to be flavorful with my template choice, but it's very tempting to munchkin it up when you have access to such things. (Especially custom races.)

Rules question I'm not certain of:

Quote:
Skills: A fey creature with racial Hit Dice has skill points per racial Hit Die equal to 6 + its Intelligence modifier. It gains Acrobatics, Bluff, Fly, and Stealth as class skills.

The wording is unclear to me. Acrobatics, Bluff, and Stealth are already class skills for the Rogue, so this is a bit of a moot point, but considering I have no racial Hit Dice, is Fly still in my class skills?

EDIT: Well, turns out it's a moot point here, because Mihara actually has a fly speed, so it's a class skill anyway. Still wondering, though.

Also, GM, any local languages I should particularly be aware of, that one might want to pick up? I fegur Kelish and Vudrani might come up, but beyond that I'm curious to know if anything else might be useful.

Dark Archive

They're elves, though. Gross.

I think, in that case, I'm gonna drop out. Good luck, everybody. :)

Well, the idea is that trying to take control of the city has chewed up and spat out more standard parties.

Since they're a separate part I assume that, yes, they would get those skills as class skills.

Gnoll would also likely be a good one to know.

Sorry to hear that Seranov.

Hm. I can't see Mihara having encountered gnolls yet. I'll probably have her take it at level 4, once she knows she might end up dealing with some.

And I'm just hoping my files are released soon - should be mighty useful, those.

I'm going to bow out. Just selected for two new games. Have fun.

cheers

Crikey, people dropping out left and right.

:(

Here's hoping we still have enough people for a good party in the end. I really like the plot you've got here, and I'm hoping to be a part of it.

That, and I've grown quite attached to Mihara.

The last time I did that, the GM gave me the worst of both, half healing and no construct HP bonus. Then kept ruling things were 'too powerful' and doing things like throwing me up against CR+3 creatures at 1st level to 'balance' my crippled character out.

After that, I'd really rather not do some half-bastardization of the race, so I'll bow out. No offense.

For healing, I was using my own spell casting for Infernal Healing (that does work on constructs). Thanks anyway, good luck with the game.

I'm submitting Ayreth. She is a changeling heavens oracle with the "haunted one" template. She opened herself up to a spirit willingly (see background), but didn't anticipate other spirits coming along for the ride (haunted curse). Also, she sometimes seems to think that she's an orc.

In regards to the background, I took some liberties and incorporated Zhen into it. I hope it fits with your ideas of him. Also, if it's too long, I offer my apologies.

Background:

"Happy birthday, Ayreth!" The older woman hugged the young girl tightly.

"It isn't my birthday yet, Sister Gia. We still have a few hours," the young girl quietly replied.

"Soon enough." The affectionate Sister stepped back and brushed some of the long white hair back from the girl's face. "You are so beautiful. You shouldn't hide behind your hair."

Ayreth looked at her caretaker for a moment, one eye golden, reflecting the firelight, the other eye midnight blue, absorbing it. She self-consciously pulled her hair back down, veiling half her face and her golden eye. "I should finish up and go to sleep."

Later that night, Ayreth was woken by a beguiling feminine voice. For a brief moment, she thought it was her mother. She dismissed the notion quickly. This voice was soft, like her own, and compelling. She knew it was calling to her, though she couldn't make out the words. She rose from her bed, exited the cottage, and followed the voice into the woods.

Ayreth was not aware of how much time passed as she walked. The woods seemed to be in an eternal twilight, neither day nor night. Mist clung to the ground and the trees. And still the voice called, compelling her forward. At some point, the trees ended at a tiny clearing in front of the entrance to a cave. Run. Ayreth stepped forward to the cave's mouth, running her hand along the stone. The voice's call was almost overwhelming at this point. She could almost understand what it was trying to tell her. Run. Ayreth brushed at the air near her face as if swatting away a pest.

As she stepped inside the cave, Ayreth saw that it was finely furnished, as if someone of means was living there. In fact, there was a blazing fire in a huge hearth. The fireplace seemed to be a natural formation of the cave wall. Out of the shadows on the side of the hearth stepped a feminine form. Ayreth could not make out any details because the fire was at the woman's back. Ayreth stepped closer to change the angle. Run. The unknown woman was incredibly beautiful. And she was singing to Ayreth, calling to her. the woman held out her hands and Ayreth placed her own hands into them. The singing stopped and the woman said in a melodious voice, "You have finally come, my dear. I have waited for this moment for so long."

"Who are you?," Ayreth inquired timidly, intimidated by the other woman's beauty.

"I'm Belda, your mother, of course," she replied reassuringly.

"My mother?," Ayreth asked hopefully, her voice rising above its normal volume. "I've never known her."

"You do now." The woman, Belda, stepped further into the light, revealing her midnight blue eyes. Ayreth gasped, knowing that one of her own eyes reflected that same color. "Yes, dear, we are going to know each other very well in the coming years." She reached up in an oddly familiar gesture and brushed the hair away from the other side of the girl's face and recoiled. Run! Ayreth quickly pulled the hair back to cover herself again, ashamed of what the woman, her mother, had seen. "So you are also your father's child? We will fix that shortly," she continued, an edge creeping into her voice. She turned to the immense cauldron over the fire. Had that been there the whole time?

"My father? He had golden eyes? Nobody that I have met has them." Ayreth was confused and her voice was diminished again.

Belda laughed, but it wasn't beautiful or reassuring. "No, it's very rare for meat to have them. Your father was special, though," she said, gesturing to something on the mantle. Ayreth took a few steps towards the object. It was a skull, humanoid looking, but with tusks, with a ring beside it. Run! Ayreth could not decide if the woman had meant the skull or the ring.

"I don't understand."

"He was a holy warrior of some sort. A fine hunt, that was. Righteous and pure, tender and delicious, he was," she cackled. "But don't worry, we'll rip that purity right out of you, dearie."

Ayreth reached out towards the ring, the woman's words not registering. The moment that she touched it, the fog finally lifted from her mind. Run! Run! Run! Run! The word repeated in her mind without end in a man's voice. It was gruff, not beguiling in the way that Belda's had been. She looked around, seeing the cave for what it really was, a hovel. The furnishings had once been fine, but were worn and dirty, a farce of luxury. Afraid to look, Ayreth steeled her will and turned towards Belda. She was revealed in her true form, a huge, hunchbacked crone with skin that was black and blue, as if the entirety of her was bruised. Run! Run! Run! Run!

The cauldron bubbled and Ayreth thought she saw a child's arm rise to the surface. It was pushed down by the hag. "He was my father and you are my mother," Ayreth stated with conviction, somehow knowing it to be true, but hoping for a denial.

"Of course, dearie. I just said that." The witch continued to stir. Tears fell down Ayreth's cheeks. Run! Run! Run! Run! Discovering that this monster was her mother filled her with emotions that she did not know how to control. Run! Run! Run! Run! Summoning her courage and her rage, she lashed out, shoving the crone forward into the cauldron. Run! Run! Run! Run! The hag came up screaming. Run! Run! Run! Run! Finally, Ayreth ran.

Ayreth ran out of the cave and ran into the woods. She ran through the mist until she could not run anymore. Out of breath, heart racing, legs aching, the girl hid behind a tree. With tears streaming down, she put her face in her hands, attempting to be quiet. It was that gesture that made her realize that she still had the ring in her hands. She looked at it closely in the dim light, glad to distract herself from the terror and exhaustion that she felt. It was a golden band with two etchings on it. Two figures in flight, the first, an angel, the second, a dragon. It was a large ring, or seemed that way in her tiny hands.

Did the ring belong to my father? It seemed reasonable that it had been the hag's trophy of that murder. If it had belonged to him, then it is my inheritance. It is all that I have left of my parents. Or, more accurately, it's the only legacy that I want. That thought inspired her to slip it on her thumb. As soon as she did, a hand slipped over her mouth, muffling her ensuing screams. A face slipped into her field of vision. It was a bestial face with grayish skin. The heavy brow was furrowed, and long canine teeth protruded from its mouth. It put its arm against her shoulders, pinning her to the tree. Between her weakened state and the sheer size difference, Ayreth knew that she wasn't going anywhere.

"No cry. I help. Please no scream. I remove hand, you no scream.," a rough, gravelly male voice emitted from his mouth. Eyes wide in fear and shock, Ayreth slowly nodded. It... err, he can speak. What new terror is this? He took his hand off and waited, their gazes never breaking contact. When she did not scream, he nodded. "Please no run. Run from evil bit... err, witch, not me." He removed his arm, trusting her. She adjusted her position and he looked concerned.

"Who are you?"

He hit his chest with his fist in some sort of salute. "Thark. I help. You no cry. Keep safe from witch."

Ayreth wiped the tears from her eyes. "Ayreth. I know your voice. You were the one telling me to run." Thark nodded. And that was how Ayreth met Thark.

In the coming days, Thark taught her how to survive. He taught her how to hunt and fish, how to hide, and the ways of orcs, as he was a half-orc. He taught her about honor and combat. Her affection for the half-orc grew even faster than her skills. And each day, they searched for a way out of the mist. They avoided being caught by the hag, but they were snared by her mist, unable to leave her territory.

One day, out of the mist appeared a man, another half-orc. "I am Zhen. I seek my son." He looked the slight girl over. "You are not him. But, there is something..." His voice trailed off. Thark stepped out from behind a tree, but the stranger did not acknowledge him, his focus entirely on the girl.

"I'm Ayreth. Is it Thark? We have been trying to find our way out of the mist for such a long time. Do you know the way?," she asked, her voice hopeful.

"We?" Zhen looked around. He turned in Thark's direction, raising his nose and sniffing the air. "I see," he said gravely. "Come with me." He turned quickly, not waiting for an answer. Ayreth and Thark followed.

They walked for some time, taking peculiar turns, doubling back occasionally. Zhen never changed his pace. The entire time Thark trailed just behind Ayreth. She would occasionally look back at him and smile. Each time, he simply nodded in response, never betraying his thoughts about their possible escape. Finally, they came to a place where the mist clearly ended.

"Thark, do you see it? It is real!" She rushed out into the first sunshine she had seen in a very long time, their new companion forgotten. She spun in circles, head back, arms extended, basking her fair skin in the warmth. She looked back to Thark, who was still standing in the mist. "Thark, come." She took a step towards him. The half-orc shook his head. Her voice turned desperate. "You must. You gave your word." He continued to look at her impassively. "No, don't do this," she pleaded. Thark did not move. "You never promised that, did you? You promised to help me escape, but you never promised that you would escape."

Ayreth went to her knees at the edge of the mist. Her tiny fists beat at the ground in anger. She looked up at Thark again, tears in her eyes for the first time since they had met. The moment gave her the courage to ask the question to which she thought she knew the answer. "You are my father, aren't you?," she asked, searching his face for the answer. For the first time, his beautifully ugly face smiled. As the mist swallowed him and his image began to fade, he offered one last piece of advice, "Run."

"No." Ayreth stood again, filled with resolve. On her left thumb, she was wearing his ring. With her right hand, she grasped it. She created an anchor in her mind and reached towards the fading Thark with her consciousness. "Run with me." A sudden rush and his image came into focus. She pulled at the line connecting him to the anchor in her mind. Slowly, he began moving towards her. At the edge of the mist, it became more of a struggle. Mentally, she wiggled the line back and forth, trying to draw him through it. Finally, in a rush, it happened. Without any more resistance, his spirit came hurtling out, slamming into the petite girl. The impact knocked Ayreth down on her back. A scream of rage was heard in the distance. As she sat up, Zhen put a hand on her shoulder.

"It is time for us to leave, little one."

Tik Klik - That...doesn't sound fun. To be clear you would have gained the full benefits of healing, and I open to negotiation on this stuff.

Slyness - No, that backstory is pretty cool and fits Zhen.

Evil Advice

Will use this.

My character idea:

Was not a good creature. Not lawful either. Did a lot of bad things. Eventually got captured.

Was bailed out. Adopted into family. Taught how to behave. How to follow the rules. Could never really understand why one be nice and gallant and all those things. But in respect to him, i followed rules and the law.

So from NE/ To LE.

Sounds doable. Look forward too seeing your personality/history written up.

Gyrfalcon here, submitting "Big Al" Redthistle for your consideration -- a two-headed half-cyclops, half-dwarf raised by a halfling cleric of Sarenrae with help and advice from Zhen Halfblood. (Can you blame her if she's a little confused?)

Crunch, background, appearance, and personality all detailed in her profile.

JonGarrett, thanks for the feedback on her race. I've tweaked a bit, trading her natural armor for Dual-Minded (which seems too flavorful to pass up on a two-headed giant) and Skilled: Perception (which matches cyclops stats). Let me know what you think--I'd happily take any suggestions for another way to build it. There are lots of potential choices!

Not Fun is an understatement.

The biggest problem I have is that construct trait is highly overrated.

There are cons that people never take into account, they only go 'Oooh, construct'.

1) No cure via cure spells or channels (This is a biggie), only fast healing or make whole works.
2) No CON score. This is a big one, but everyone blows it off. The system is designed for you to be able to pump your HP via con, especially if you are a squishy caster type or skill monkey. Belt of con doesn't help you. The construct get's a flat one time only +10 HP to keep them from dying at first level.
3) Destroyed if HP reaches 0.
4) Cannot be raised or resurrected.
5) Fort saves are always stunted due to lack of Con.

Yep, they get some nice things, no sleep, eat, or breath. No fatigue, no attribute drain/damage. Immune to disease (fairly minor). Immunity to mind affecting abilities.

Most of this was given to warforged in 3.5, and they could still heal. The only thing they get that warforged didn't was the immunity to attribute drain/damage and mind affecting. Those are big, but warforged could be healed, raised/ressurected, and could boost their HP with con items and go into negative HP without dying.

Honestly people just don't give the whole 'can never go negative hp' thing enough weight, if you think about how careful you have to be to *never* go negative, and how hard that is...

Anyway, not arguing with you, just pointing out some stuff I feel people overlook. As I said, I've just got a bad taste in my mouth about 'tweaks' to the race at this point. Not your fault.

And warforged could go juggernaut if they really wanted to be a construct. then they were really broken :P

Well, you could always make a custom race. Half-Constructs exist for 7 RP - no raising or resurrection, but they can benefit from healing and do have a CON score, so that can at least get closer to what you're trying. ^^ There's also the Android race now.

Actually what I'm going for is a sentient golem, so the race as is perfectly represents that. :) Being able to heal and have con doesn't. :)

...And in that case, yeah, I can see why you didn't change. XD After all, it's hard to roleplay if you didn't put any fluff into the character...

I'm backing off of this one. Have fun guys.

Presenting Jack "Frost" Halfblood

Full Character Sheet

Ghost(Human) Sorcerer 2 (Marid Bloodline)

I would suggest to keep the character reasonable to ignore the undead immunity to mind affecting. Never made any sense to me for intelligent undead anyway. Incorporeal is a hindrance to me since it limits my ability to use anything but my starting gear and potentially ghost touch weapons and armor (sorc so unlikely) Heh more loot for everyone else.

This pale translucent human looks barely 15. His white hair is wild and he carries a twisted branch. He wears a heavy winter cloak that seems very out of season. His blue eyes lock with yours for a moment before he passes through a nearby table.

Jack was a good kid, always watching out for his siblings. They even say he died saving one of them. But for some reason he just didn't pass on to the next life. Sticking around he continued to watch over that sibling.

My submission is a half celestial aasimar paladin- Azaxeml's Character Sheet

I thought instead of weird I would try going for absolutely iconic paladin to the nth degree.

It's a draft that I'll have to review and tweak a little but his background appearance and goal information are jotted down there so it should be enough to determine if a paladin with a selfish story goal would be interesting enough to bring along on the capture and rebuild of the city.

@ToxicDragon: Eh, one of my favorite characters is a depressed paladin I made some time ago, so I love unhortodox pallies. :D
Oh, and watch out: Wisdom in the flesh is an Irori trait, not a Iomedae one, so you can't take it.

Its sad but I was thinking of making the Sibling.

Human Lycanthrope, Snow Leopard World Walker.

I won't be able to post tonight on the concept and build because a friend stayed to late will post it up tomorrow.

In the original post, it talked about mythic. Are we going mythic at some point?

Gyrfalcon - Much better, and I like that it's a lady for some reason. Dunno why, but it tickles me as cool.

mdt - Understandable. I forgot that unlike undead Constructs don't add Charisma instead of Con, which does help.

My main two concerns with constructs is that they are immune to a lot, which limits my options to set up an interesting encounter, and there inability to be healed. What I was hoping to do was give you the ability to be healed more normally and give you bonuses, but not immunity, to the long list of stuff.

Obviously, Infernal Healing helps with healing, but I dislike you not being healible if that runs out. I'm fine with you not having a Con, though. And I'm happy with you grabbing a couple of extra racial powers to make up for the drop in power, such as Treespeak and Venom. They seemed to fit. Any ideas?

To be clear to everyone - This is a weird game, with weird characters. While there are some limits I will try my best to come up with a compromise that allows you to play the character you want while giving you a chance to be chosen in the game. I consider some concepts untenable an difficult to play with, and will tell you such rather than simply let you apply with no chance. I want as much varity to choose a good party from as possible, so...

EDIT: Crap, for some reason It showed me the last posts from like three hours ago...

Ravencia - The concept is good. I just need to work out how to balance the fact so many enemies can't hurt you. Let me think it over.

Nigrum - Yes, there will likely be mythic later. It fits the theme I'm going for well. Whether it's full Mythic or some granted Mythic abilitoies, I'm less sure about. I guess I'll see how easily my monsters get blended as is...

Alright crunch in the alias. Elf Arcanist with the focused study campaign trait. Item creationist and mobile shop.

Personality is that of a generally friendly elven tinkerer, a master of many trades and schools of thought. The shaper is a warm person with a cheerful outlook, though not athletically gifted as many of his kin. He also is hedonistic and enjoys wine and fine company a bit to much in that it can distract him from the task at hand.

It makes an odd personality a distracted genius, wildly inappropriate inventor.

Yao Mihara

Alright, that should be the final version. I've made a lot of tweaked and planned some stuff out. (My leveling plans assume regular mythic rules, but I have no problem adjusting them if we end up working differently.)

Nigrum is built with mythic in mind later on. Which is why I wanted to know. As long as I can adjust him if we do not go mythic I am good. I tend to plan my advancement a little so I don't end up taking forever to level up or make patchwork choices. ;)

Yeah, if people need to tweek because we're not going full Mythic that's fine.

I believe you're misinterpreting what Rednal said.

You explained that you didn't change because your fluff wouldn't work with the changed mechanics.

Rednal commented that it was good that you stuck to your original mechanics, so that you could keep your fluff.

Yeah, I realized that afterwards. :) Paranoia hits again. Well, that and exhaustion. Sorry Rednal...

'S cool. Stuff happens. XD

That said, I should probably make my own character here. Let's see, which template looks like the most fun...?
