Cindy Lu
Sorry, I think I missed a beat. Do we know who we're looking for, or do we have to figure out who the thieves are?
Vados sneaks around to the back of the building (T12) and positions himself near the window. He settles himself so that he's hidden by the shadows, but can still clearly see inside.
Stealth:1d20 + 10
Vados, Don't forget that I have already cast mage armor on you. :)
GM Ascension
Message spell is up from Aria. For those not familiar with the spell it lets Aria communicate with each of you from a long distance, and vice versa. It does not let each of you communicate with all other members of the group, only messages to/from Aria. This is done be whispering what you want Aria to hear. People near you have a small chance of whispering anything she says to you - and of course the act of whispering itself may draw attention - depending on circumstances.
Vados is buffed with Mage Armor, Cindy with False Life, Fly and Natural Armor hexes.
Descriptions from Mr Jumai reposted here:
Jumai gives James a dark look then grunts, "Two nights ago several men and a gnome came into the shop after closing. We only saw the three of them, but there were more outside. Cast some kind of enchantment on James, Doug and Eric here so they couldn't do nothing. Robbed us with us standing right here in the shop."
"One of them men was a real loud mouth, shouting all kinds of things about spilling blood. The other talked real smooth." Jumai shakes his head.
James adds in, "That one that talked all smooth like, he had a limp, foot injury or something of some kind."
Jumai looks a little irritated at being interrupted. "The gnome didn't say or do much."
Firyin has provided a dozen crossbowmen - all are currently ~200' away loitering in the streets, etc, waiting for a single to move in and cover the exits.
This is the same spoiler Aria got earlier
You recognize the human male exiting the door from your meeting this morning with the mages. The silent man with twin short blades hanging from his waist, who never spoke and never gave his name.
Vayga Glitterblade
Vayga stomps into the inn mumbling and grumbling all the way to the bar. It's been one of those days and I'm about 'this' close to losing it. Instead of measuring the distance between her fingers she makes two tight fists and shakes them in front of her own face. Though she is standing at the bar it's more like she is talking to herself than the bartender in front of her. I'm going to need a few drinks and... with a resigned look I probably won't be able to walk out of here so I might as well pay for a room now. Finally making eye contact she forces a smile in a way she hopes in disarming. Not to worry, I don't cause trouble I just like to smolder a bit then sleep it off. That's true enough she thinks to herself.
Assuming they don't kick her out now...
Vayga places a gold coin on the bar, gathers her drink and stalks off to sit in front of the minstrel. She continues to mutter grumpily as if to herself about everything in the room. Dwarves grumble, half-orc ugly, gnome mage ugh, Snooty elves sipping wine.
Not really wanting to get drunk Vayga just takes a few sips.
Meanwhile she is examining everyone and grumping under her breath about what they look like as though she is personally offended by each and every one of them. As she describes what she's seeing Vayga imagines all the mean things they are saying about her to each other holding her temper on the verge of rage.
Hopefully Aria can pick out the useful information in between the How dare they's, they don't even know me's,and that makes me so mad.
GM Ascension
The elven man makes his way east, veering north, while the mage representative walks east and south, passing close by Cindy Lu and Garion.
Inside Vayga and Shiv see a strange sight. Coming down the stairs is a man dressed in a very strange set of... armor? It covers him head to toe, like full plate mail, but is of a design you've never seen before. The man has a cloak pulled down close over his head and walks with a definite limp.
He heads towards the front door.
The bartender smiles at Vayga, despite her mood, and gives her the asked for drink.
Aria Stellar
Yes, Aria messages. Apologies for delay. She'll follow the man from the vision if he separates from the others.
She also casts mage armor on herself, granting herself +2 armor AC, and Skyfire +4 armor AC.
Cindy Lu
Remember Garion, you cannot message Cindy. All messages have to go through Aria. Whispering should be a free action, but we cannot whisper an infinite amount of times in a single round.
Cindy moves mostly south (W35) and then tries her Slumber hex on the person that looks like the Mages Guild guard (in U39). Will save DC18 or sleep for 5 rounds. Yes She says to Garion out loud but quitely. Then through the message spell she replies to Aria. I am attacking the one who looks like he is from the Mages. Tell the others.
Aria Stellar
Aria relays the message to Cindy Lu. The next round she informs the others about the attacks. Though by that time, they might already be able to see what's going on.
Aria Stellar
Initiative
1d20 + 4 ⇒ (5) + 4 = 9
While she acts with the knowledge that Cindy Lu intends to attack the magocracy's representative (inward cringe), she delays to make certain that no innocents are injured in her release of power.
She reaches into her spell component pouch and pulls out the glass rod and the small bit of fur. With a quick stroke of the fur, a static charge is built on the glass, and with an arcane word it glows brilliantly with unreleased lightning.
She takes a five foot step to AI36
lightning bolt
AH36 to K41 (barely missing the bystander in M40)
5d6 ⇒ (3, 2, 1, 2, 4) = 12, Reflex DC 16 to half damage.
After she casts the spell, she drops prone to the roof so that hopefully no one can see her. (free action)
Vayga Glitterblade
Just as though she is taking a swig from her mug Vayga downs her potion of Bear's Endurance.
Vayga hears Aria's whisper that confrontation is eminent and quickly changes her plans. She abruptly stands up, her hands in fists shake with unconcealed rage. You all think you're so much better than me with your fine cloths and fancy wine? She shouts. I can see you don't want me here. Well that's fine with me. I don't want to be around you either!
GM Ascension
Holding Vayga's action till her turn.
The man in the strange armor pushes out the front doors as Cindy is moving into position. He begins shouting as soon as he steps out, "Tunny! Tunny hold on a second, I need to speak with you!" The man breaks into a run, or as best of a run as his limp will allow. As he does so his strange suit of armor hisses and creaks.
You recognize this is no mere armor, but almost a living creature in its own right.
This is a synthesist summoner (bipedal) refluffed in a steampunk style.
None turn to look in his direction though.
Cindy is up, still using sleep hex on the 'mage' representative?
@Aria, if Cindy sleeps the man do you want to change targets for your lightning bolt? The damage will wake him right back up if you target him.
Garion you are also up and may state your single action. I assumed no one had any drawn weapons so as not to attract attention yet, so you can move and/or draw your weapon or cast a spell.
Icons marked with a little blue blob in the top right corner are those of 'possible' interest. Currently the mage representative and the man in strange armor.
Updated map
Aria Stellar
Its my only long distance spell at the moment, so if she acts higher than me in initiative, and the spell is successful, Aria will instead cast shocking grasp on Skyfire, who will double move towards the mage representative afterwards.
GM Ascension
Will save d20 + mods = 13
The man with twin blades collapses to the ground as Cindy Lu focuses her attention on him.
At Aria's instruction Skyfire takes to the sky, sparks of lightning flickering between his claws, winging towards the man.
Garion is up, then normal rounds start.
Init order in normal rounds will start with two of the enemy, followed by Vados.
GM Ascension
R33 and U40 are current suspects (R40 now sleeping on the ground). Somewhat hard to see is a little blue 'smudge' near the top right corner of their icons. As additional targets make threatening actions towards the group I will mark them with the blue mark as well - or if you want me to tag something specifically I can do so so that you know where those people are moving to.
GM Ascension
Chains of magical energy encircle the man in the strange armor as Garion chants his spell.
Will save d20 + mods = 23
They fail to take hold though. From the northeast an arrow flies from the direction of the stables. The elf who walked out just before the sleeping mage representative has taken cover around a doorway in the stables and fires an arrow at Garion.
Attack d20 + mods = 26. Damage d8 + mods = 5
The aim is true, but Garion's breastplate deflects much of the force of the attack.
@Garion, your character sheet lists your AC as 11, it should be 21 (+1 dex, +7 breastplate +1, +3 heavy shield +1)
At the sound of shouting from outside one of the men, a metal breasplate covering his torso, jumps up and runs to the door to look outside. A light steel shield is strapped across his back, and a tonfa swings at his side. His arms and legs are thick, powerful muscles showing underneath the sleeves of his shirt. A finely made cloak streams behind him as he rushes to the doors. His hair is cut very short, perhaps an inch in length is all. He is now at Q29, looking out the front doors - map update later tonight
Vados is up.
GM Ascension
One thing I failed to mention. Garion's spell cast ended the surprise round. Top of round 1 started with the elf, the man with the breastplate inside, then Vados.
And something I'm adding as an afterthought - the center portion of the fountain will provide partial cover against the elven archer for Garion, which doesn't change the attack roll still hitting, but does provide +2 to Garion's AC against the attack.
Also changed targets of interest/possible interest to have red circles around them - much more visible that way.
Aria Stellar
Aria messages back. "I know. Just had to use the distraction attack to draw out the other targets. The only one you mentioned was the mage representative."
She screeches out a strange string of syllables, and Skyfire halts his movement to hover in mid-air, flapping his wings to hover above the road. Skyfire will charge the man in the strange armor at the next possibility.
Skyfire's Charge (when possible)
1d20 + 6 + 2 + 1 + 3 ⇒ (17) + 6 + 2 + 1 + 3 = 29 (including bonus for higher ground and metal armor)
1d3 + 5d6 ⇒ (3) + (2, 2, 1, 6, 2) = 16 electrical
GM Ascension
Sorry Vados, running must be done in a straight line. I kept thinking it was but couldn't find it right off. Looked again just now and found the rules on that. So just a double move for you as you round the southwest corner of the inn.
The armored man takes a step to the south, the words of a spell coming to his lips. There is a flash of green light that streaks from his hand to the man lying unconscious on the ground. With a shout of pain the fallen one awakens. As he does the summoner shouts at him in an unknown tongue. The language is rough and gutteral. "Væk ingen titte!"
Garion, Cindy and Aria may make a linguistics roll (if they have the skill trained) to try and place the language - its going to be a hard DC though.
With a puff of smoke the man on the ground vanishes. He can be heard scrambling away from his attackers.
The summoner casts acid splash at the fallen man.
Attacks d20 + mods = 14. Damage 1d3 = 3
Skyfire swerves towards the summoner, claws extended, and scratches at the armored man. Electricity arcs up and down the metal covering and the man gives a growl of pain.
Five men with light crossbows come running down the street from the east, Firyin's lackeys moving in to assist. Behind Vados can be seen several more moving to cover the windows on that side of the building.
There are shouts from those on the street and people begin to scatter in all directions.
Skyfire has moved, but Cindy, Shiv and Aria are up.
Aria Stellar
Aria takes a 5 foot step back (hoping to be less visible behind the chimney) and begins muttering the words to conjure a small air elemental.
Cindy Lu
Cindy calls out to the crossbowmen advancing. The should have seen the prone man vanish. He is still there, around you somewhere. She then flies up and around the Summoner to the west, not getting into his reach. She will end her movement in the air 20' off the ground at T30 and use her slumber hex on the enemy in the doorway. DC18 again. She has tried to keep the fountain in between herself and the sniper in the stables that shot the cleric. A she flies she pulls her great axe from her back.
GM Ascension
As Cindy Lu floats into the air watching over the doorway a man in the street pushes into the inn, trying to get away from the fight breaking out in the streets. A number of patrons in the inn stand up and draw weapons as the commotion outside looks to be spilling into the inn. Though none seem interested in actually taking part in the fight.
Shiv mimics the other patrons pulling his daggers, though attempting to do so more surreptitiously.
The gnome in wizard robes sprints across the room from the middle table with surprising speed for one of his small stature, covering 45' of distance in just a few seconds to stand just outside the doors.
"Get up! We need to get rid of that caster!"
Then in that same guttural language the summoner used earlier he calls out. "Hvis de bueskyttere begynner å skyte på oss, foreslår jeg at vi trekke uten noe mer kamp. Det er ingen grunn til å gi våre fiender informasjon om oss før vi vet at vi kan vinne kampen."
The gnome reaches down to violently shake the man lying on the floor when Shiv leaps from his chair and slams one of his daggers into the mans arm.
Garion is up
Garion Tathos
Linguistics: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (8) + 4 = 12
Garion has no idea what the man in armor said. Garion steps up and smashes him with the mace. "It's not polite to speak so your guests can't understand you. Didn't your mother teach you any manners?"
Heavy Mace: 1d20 + 5 ⇒ (18) + 5 = 23
Damage: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (2) + 2 = 4
GM Ascension
Garion's mace smashes against the metal man with a loud clang that echoes off the nearby buildings. The opponent is unphased by the attack though.
A large half orc rises from a chair in the middle of the room, chanting the words of a brief spell. A medallion that he has pulled from underneath his shirt flashes briefly at the completion of the spell. He then bellows to those in the inn, "Assassins! They dare attack agents of the Tower in public. To arms people of Coran and defend the fine men of the Tower for rich reward!"
All eyes snap his direction and many of those who have still been in their seats rise amidst shouts filling the room, weapons coming free of sheathes or bows being picked up from tables.
Shiv and Vayga, if you have kn religion you may roll to recognize the medallion.
The crowd has surprisingly mixed reactions. Some are plainly filled with greed at the possibility of reward. Others muttering dark things under their breath "Blasted mages deserve what they get."
The barkeeper pulls a heavy crossbow from underneath the bar shouting out, "There'll be no fighting in my inn." His words seem lost in the general commotion though.
Vayga is up, which will end round 1.
With all combatants (at least so far) known now here is the full init order list
The elf at the stables
the man Shiv stabbed
Vados
The metal summoner
The invisible 'mage' representative
Cindy
Aria/Skyfire
Shiv
NPC xbowmen and inn crowd
The gnome mage
Garion
The half-orc
Vayga
Vayga Glitterblade
By the time Vayga understands from Aria's whispers that things are definitely turning to conflict she has seen a variety of threatening foes and aggressive behaviors. Hopefully the confusions in the inn will make her movements less conspicuous.
No longer fussing or making unpleasant remarks about the other patrons Vayga stands and moves as close to the conflict as possible.
Vayga uses a double move to get to P26.
