Round 14
"T'DAVY JONES WITH YE!"

"Quite unfair , don't you think? You're outnumbered, the shame" Grok
"My fist will allow you to understand our strength." Maheem
Turning around, you'll see that most of the fighting crew are ringed around you.
Rosie stands on a barrel, crouched with daggers in hands poised to launch a quick throw, Crimson with a bloody sabre and alot of blood covering his upper torso behind her, said sable raised and resting on his shoulder. Flanking them is Grok and her very 'clean' axe, they might be naming it something else soon.
Maheem stands perfectly balanced on the ship railings, his sash waving about lazily in the wind.
The other group consists of Captain Barnabas Harrigan, Peppery Longfarthing and “Ratline” Rattsberge.
The sailors already disheartened and utterly demoralised by Reijo's wods see not other alternative but to surrender...........

![]() |
The battle ends with the pirates victorious. The fog dissipates, and a line of prisoners from the Man’s Promise is paraded before Captain Harrigan and the cheering crew of the Wormwood.
Aboard the Wormwood, a party begins as the pirates celebrate their victory with fine food and drink from the Man’s Promise’s hold. Captain Harrigan holds a meeting with his top officers and divvies up the plunder from the Man’s Promise among the crew in the early evening.
Bolstered by gold and good drink, the party lasts for 36 hours, well into the next night. Naturally, no work takes place during the party. During this time, the party members can take up to 5 ship actions of their choice, or do nothing but drink and revel like most of the pirate crew does.
For your reward and share of the plunder.
Each of you are given 150gp as share from plunder.
Three potions of cure moderate wounds and a potion of invisibility, and each is awarded an additional 100 gp.
Four Amulet of Natural Armor +1
Four Short Swords +1
A Grand total of 250gp each.
100 GP to be shared amongst all you for killing the officer.
There are are bout 28 prisoners captured and are currently in the hold awaiting their fate. With them is Peppery Longfarthing & Master Scourge.
Master Scourge's reward though is a brace of pistols. Something that is clear to everyone else but you that something is up.
Cut-Throat Grok is currently in charge with Ambrose for the distribution of Rum and food.
Habbly Quarne has being spotted with some other ex-Rahadoumi sailors making repairs to the Man's Promise.

Reijo Ilvonen |

The rageful sailor, now "calm" again, cracks a sinister and crooked smile at Grok on sight of her gifts... as close to a genuine smile as Reijo can muster. He swiftly and greedily takes not only the gold but also swipes two potions (one cure moderate, one invisibility) before anyone can say boo. He downs one potion (cure) on the spot. He also casts a sadistic-tinged grin at the captain, happily taking a sword and an amulet for himself without hesitation. From Krine, he grabs 25 pieces of the 100 for himself.
When not within earshot of the captain, Scourge, Plug, or any of their cronies, "Be lookin' like th'Promise be preppin' fer service, eh? Be havin' too many tars fer one ship, methinks."
Reijo drinks and smokes away the time. On occasion, a mug flies from his hand across the room hitting a wall near someone. For no apparent reason, though the more keen may realize it's usually the loudest and happiest of the crew. He's so inebriated at times, he passes out. But he remains upright somehow, as if he's (nearly) mastered the art of appearing awake while passed out from a lifetime of experience. His intense paranoia recovers him quickly enough to some semblance of alertness, ever afraid of someone slipping a blade into his back, or to loosen his coin pouch.
While conscious, he remains wary and suspicious of too much cheerfulness directed towards himself, giving dirty looks to anyone who compliments him. Mus'be lookin' ta pull th'wool ov'r me eyes. Take me coin, eh? Ov'r me dead body...
Down the cure moderate wounds potion:
Quaff Cure Moderate Wounds: 2d8 + 3 ⇒ (2, 4) + 3 = 9

Nolwazi Nkosi |

As Reijo and No-Eyes make merry the Bonuwat woman attempts to acclimate herself to the ship and learn the faces of crew. She ignores the drinking and mingles with the crew sober enough to perform their duties.
She seems particularly interested in those which seem most disaffected and unhappy with their current lot.
To the various sailors she strikes up casual conversation along these lines:
"Be ya keen on dem goin-ons 'round dis boat? Dis crew be
right hard and full a dem fire. Shame dey be under da tumb - kinda' feel like bein da kept woman" She'll judge their reactions accordingly.

Other than the sailors working hard at repairs, Nolwazi doesn't find anything out of place baring one. Maheem seems unlike himself but when he passes through some other drunken sailors and hoisting up a tankard, he seems just like himself for the short while you know of him.
Speaking to Grok, you see him carrying a tankard and then giving you a smile as he hands over the tankard to her.
"Brought this up for you. Don't want you to miss all the fun now isn't it. That axe of yours may have gotten a new name so far."
Grok on taking the tankard, drains it in a single swallow.
"Hush you water drinking felon. All this Rum is wasted on you when you only take water. You received word yet?"
Maheem nods in answer and the both of them engage in small chatter.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
At dawn, a few hours after the celebration finally winds down, the ship’s bell sounds, calling all hands on deck. When the crew is assembled, a long line of captured officers and sailors from the Man’s Promise is brought on deck and paraded before the crew. Captain Harrigan addresses the captives first, offering a place on the Wormwood’s crew for any who want to throw their lot in with pirates.
"Aye you scurvy dogs, I shall put it plainly so that there's little chance of misunderstanding.
Serve me and live. Join us as pirates and enjoy riches beyond what your previous jobs could give you! Refuse and your bodies will feed the fishes before the day is out. Ye got this chance. Think it carefully."
To make his point, Harrigan grabs one of the Rahadoumi sailors and throws her overboard to the accompaniment of cheers and laughter from the Wormwood’s crew.
Several of the Rahadoumi sailors step forward; Master Scourge cuts their bonds, and the sailors take their places among the Wormwood’s crew. A few refused and are promptly cut down where they stand. It's a little longer before most of the other Rahadoumi soldiers agree.
Harrigan then turns to address the Wormwood’s crew.
“All right, you scurvy tars! You’ve done a right good job by me—we’ve got a second ship now, and she’s quite a prize from the looks of her. But I still have only one crew. So here’s the plan—the Wormwood will sail on to our planned destination with our new shipmates here, while Mr. Plugg will pick a skeleton crew to sail the Man’s Promise to Port Peril, where she’ll be worth a pretty penny as salvage."
Pausing a moment.
“As for these fine fellows here” Harrigan gestures at the remainder of the captured ship’s crew
“some of them will no doubt be worth a hefty ransom from their families back in Azir. And for the rest, if the life of a pirate’s not for them, they can spend the rest of their lives at sea!”
The officers are led belowdecks and the crew dismissed to their daily tasks.
As they do, Mr. Plugg and Master Scourge pick out several of the Wormwood’s original crew, telling them to be aboard the Man’s Promise within 10 minutes to set sail for Port Peril.
The names called out with their jobs are surprising yet not so much:
Mr. Plugg - Temporary Captain
Master Scourge - Temporary First Mate
Aretta Bansion job: Temp Ship Officers
Fipps Chumlett job: Temp Ship Officers
Jaundiced Jape job: Temp Ship Officers
20 of the 45 Rahadoumi as various jobs
Sandara Quinn Job: swab
Rosie Cusswell Job: swab
Crimson “Cog” Cogward Job: swab
Conchobhar Turlach Shortstone Job: rigger
Maheem job: rigger
“Ratline” Rattsberger job: rigger
Ambrose “Fishguts” Kroop - Cook
Owlbear Hartshorn
All of you are chosen to join the skeleton crew as well, and Scourge smiles evilly at them as he calls out each of your names.
The Man’s Promise is a three-masted sailing ship, 105 feet long and 30 feet wide (see the Skull & Shackles Player’s Guide). A minimum crew of 20 is required to sail her. Unless otherwise indicated, interior walls on the ship are of wood, 2 inches thick (hardness 5, hp 20, Break DC 20). Doors are of good wooden construction (hardness 5, hp 15, Break DC 18). Interior rooms are unlit during the day (except for those with windows or portholes), and usually have a single hooded lantern for light at night.

Nolwazi Nkosi |

Nolwazi doesn't have any ideas what to make of the conspirators, but seems happy at the prospect of getting out from under Harrigan's brutal ways.
"Dis sea be stirrin' up sometin' good for I." She chatters to No-eyes as she stows gear. "Don' know 'bout dis Mista' Plugg, but de less storms clouds in life de sunnier de life. An' we be movin' away from a dark cloud bank think I." As all sailors everywhere, she packs quickly and efficiently and is soon ready for the man's promise.

Reijo Ilvonen |

Reijo matches Scourge's evil smile with one of his own. As soon as Scourge's eyes move on, however, Reijo's face immediately forms a sinister frown.
'at's right. Ye be gettin' me blade in yer bloody neck real soon now, Scurve... REAL soon...
Overhearing her speak to Bellamy, "Aye, he be a right sunny day, Lucky." The sarcasm in his lowered, gritty voice is obvious.

"No-Eyes" Bellamy |

Bellamy carefully makes no reaction to being placed under Mr. Plugg's 'command', alarm bells ringing in the back of his mind.
He takes his prize money and makes a few purchases with the Purser. The only obvious change is his new chain shirt.
After packing his sea bag for the transfer, he takes his time to have a smoke of his pipe and think on Nolwazi's comment.
"Well now;" He said slowly, fragrent pipesmoke trickling from his lips. "Aye, we be moving from out of a dark cloud. A new ship, new shipmates, fine sailing weather, nothing better fer a sailor true I say."
He turned his eyepatched face towards the new ships rail.
"Thing is, we've had dealings with the prize Captain, Mr. Plugg and his little buddies. Yer safest not ta turn yer back on any of 'em. Ye can ask Reijo boy fer details, he'll talk yer ear off."
He turned back to Nolwazi.
"'Fraid ta say, its more like 'Out of the fryin' pan, inta the fire.'"

The Mwangi woman frowns deeply at the news. "No da good when you bacon simmer-simmer in da flame. I be prayin' to her and her dat she show us de way tru' de storm den."

Reijo Ilvonen |

Reijo spits on deck at Bellamy's mentioning of himself. Catching a whiff of his snuff, Reijo exhales his own as he states, "That she-orc, she gets some fair leaf, eh Blindey?"
To Nolwazi, "Best not be makin' me hungry by talkin' o'bacon. Less Blindey be makin' some, real soon. Me gets grumpy when I be hungry."

"Doc" T. J. Juckson |

Sorry, I've been swamped this week finishing up my thesis. I'll get Doc leveled as soon as possible but I'm supposed to be running the Season 5 special at an event tomorrow so it may a few more days.
Doc has been noticeably quiet through all the changes, mulling over the new power dynamic among the skeleton crew. Although with a smaller crew, perhaps it will be easier for us to gain an advantage over Plugg once and for all. Mutiny's not a swear word as far as I can remember.

Day 1: New Ship, Old Rules
As the Man’s Promise sets sail, acting captain Mr. Plugg and his first mate Master Scourge gather the crew together.
"Alright all you scurvy curs. This is the Man's Promise and I promise you things will be different than on the Wormwood! We'll have discipline and all crimes are punishable by the cat. Failure to comply and you'll be feeding the fishes! Keelhauling maybe too good for the likes of some of you!" as he says the last part, Mr Plugg's eyes roam over to Reijo.
Master Scourge steps up to continue.
"All crew members are to maintain their current jobds though some of you will be promoted to temporary officers. If you do well, this position maybe permanant!"
From now on, the DC to avoid fatigue for a daily task increases by +2, and PCs must now make DC 12 Constitution checks to avoid fatigue for those tasks where no fatigue chance previously existed.
As he speaks, several crew members grin while some are obviously happy.
Mr. Plugg continues on
"From now on there'll be no Rum Ration nor entertainment after night fall. You all got to keep sharp now, yer hear? Anyone caught above decks without offical reason will be flogged!!! Six Lashes with the Cat at the minimum! Do I make myself clear?" A muttered chorus of Ayes echo out.
Once they are done Speaking, they dismiss the rest of you to your regular duties as assigned by Master Scourge.
Other than being a cook, everyone else somehow gets assigned to the blidges............
I hope this will do for now as I redo the maps. Again thank you for all your kind understanding.

Reijo Ilvonen |

Reijo returns Plugg's gaze with a squinty-eyed frown of his own.
On Scourge's name being mentioned, Nolwazi easily sees an expression of disgust and rage come over Reijo's face. She might, at first, think it was the bacon reference... but not after he glares in Scourge's direction, and spits on the deck.
The seasoned sailor gets to work clearing the scum and crud from the bilges. It appears his wounds from the previous battle are still mending though. He winces here and there, dropping filthy bilge water back onto the floor at one point, causing more work. He curses like a pirate as this occurs.

The night is calm as everyone takes a well deserved rest............
There are several movements in the crews quarters during the night. They seem to be heading somewhere. A Common destination.

Reijo Ilvonen |

During and after supper, Reijo secretly refers to his compass periodically. He's judging the changes in ship direction, seeking answers to two important questions before hitting the cot.
Late at night, nearby insomniacs may overhear feint whispers from Reijo before the angry sailor at last falls asleep.

Reijo hears several crew members leaving the cabin, the cabin has not being assigned yet so everyone has taken up one of their own for now.
Reijo however discovers that the ship's heading has changed though slight, based on his own readings, the ship is bound for somewhere else.
Your destination he is certain isn't Port Peril. He'll need to get the nautical maps to have a better idea where they are heading.
He also sees one more thing interesting to note. A silhouette of a woman changing into a man heading upstairs.

Reijo Ilvonen |

Noting where he thinks nautical maps might be kept, the angry navigator keeps his discovery to himself, for now.
On seeing the shape changer, he gives them a sharp call, "Avast!" Reijo rushes to catch up with the person. He addresses the changer in a relatively calm voice, "Susie. Me knows it be ye."
Where might nautical maps be kept?

Nautical Maps are usually always kept in the captain's quarters. Every Sailor worth his salt knows that however Reijo knows of another source that few tend to discover, the helmsmen usually has the best idea since he/she has to steer the ship. The helmsmen in this case is Maheem.
As Reijo charges up to the shape changer, he finds to his astonishment, no one there.
A thin wisp of smoke seeps below the boards and disappears.

Reijo Ilvonen |

Reijo makes a mental note of quietly asking Maheem about their destination the next chance he gets.
"Oi!" Reijo looks around astonished at the disappearance of the shapechanger. Beneath his breath, "Whatha bloody'ell?"
