Bulvi will definitely be able to make the most out of that spear. Throw haste on him and let him go to town on the dragon.

Yeah, before it goes to town on us…hope we level up before we face that thing…

Funny you should mention that, now *is* actually when you're supposed to level up. :D And yes, now is a good time for you to join back in, Selena! As for the armor, I assume from the weight it's supposed to be hide armor.

Yea! Taking another dip into Shadowdancer will be extremely beneficial; darkvision, evasion, and uncanny dodge, here I come!
Level-up HP: 1d8 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (7) + 1 + 1 = 9
Done with my leveling up. Having darkvision now, I’ll be able to scout ahead without needing light, so that should help keep me from being seen when in caves and such…

@Fin Uncanny Dodge bros!
Prestige Class: Ulfen Guard
HP: 1d8 ⇒ 8
The Ulfen Guard gains uncanny dodge, as the barbarian class feature of the same name. If the guard already has uncanny dodge from another source (or a previous instance of this dedication), she instead gains improved uncanny dodge. If she already has improved uncanny dodge, taking this dedication grants the effects of improved uncanny dodge to her chosen ally as long as the guard is adjacent to the ally. Use the guard’s class level plus her barbarian levels to determine the minimum rogue level required to flank either character. This guard dedication can be chosen up to three times.
Uncanny Dodge Starting at 4th level, a rogue can react to danger before her senses would normally allow her to do so. She cannot be caught flat-footed, nor does she lose her Dex bonus to AC if the attacker is invisible. She still loses her Dexterity bonus to AC if immobilized. A rogue with this ability can still lose her Dexterity bonus to AC if an opponent successfully uses the feint action (see Combat) against her.
If a rogue already has uncanny dodge from a different class, she automatically gains improved uncanny dodge (see below) instead.
While in rage, a barbarian gains a +4 morale bonus to her Strength and Constitution, as well as a +2 morale bonus on Will saves. In addition, she takes a –2 penalty to Armor Class. The increase to Constitution grants the barbarian 2 hit points per Hit Dice, but these disappear when the rage ends and are not lost first like temporary hit points. While in rage, a barbarian cannot use any Charisma-, Dexterity-, or Intelligence-based skills (except Acrobatics, Fly, Intimidate, and Ride) or any ability that requires patience or concentration.
A barbarian can end her rage as a free action and is fatigued after rage for a number of rounds equal to 2 times the number of rounds spent in the rage. A barbarian cannot enter a new rage while fatigued or exhausted but can otherwise enter rage multiple times during a single encounter or combat. If a barbarian falls unconscious, her rage immediately ends, placing her in peril of death.

@Selena Sarnok was a hero of legend so he's probably been dead for decades if not centuries. Reincarnate only works within a week of death. Honestly even True Resurrection might not be enough for this one.

Can you confirm what level we should be?
I thought we were going from 10 to 11 but when I was doing the math, it looks like I was already 11th and just hadn't changed my level number.
Findurêl
|
Hey Kalchine, it’s 12th…
Selena, cool, can you turn into a croc? Izzy needs a girlfriend… ;)
| Kalchine |
Once this part is done I'll be leveled up for both Kalchine and Chest Thumper.
It did turn out that I had all the numbers except the one actually labeled "level" right.
Chest Thumper HP: 1d8 + 2 ⇒ (7) + 2 = 9
Kalchine: 1d8 + 1 ⇒ (2) + 1 = 3
| Bulvi |
HP: 1d10 + 2 + 1 + 1 ⇒ (5) + 2 + 1 + 1 = 9
Ability Score Increase: +1 Str
Bonus Feat: Greater Weapon Specialisation
Skill Points: 2+2+1
Perception +1, Linguistics +4
Languages: Feycommon, Iobarian, Ignan, Aquan

(though sometimes he wondered what Maka would consider scandalous)
Things Maka considers scandalous: Jalmeray's caste system, denying aid earnestly and honestly asked for, bringing a lute to a party.
Things Maka does not consider scandalous: Nakedness and related activities, beating up jerks, dismantling systems of oppression.
| Maka Na'Shota |
Kris D'aughtree is everything wrong with guys who bring lutes to parties and she was glad to see him leave.
| Maka Na'Shota |
In regards to sneaking into the lair:
We have a bunch of magical options to help us out. Teleportation is the obvious solution, but at this level I expect every important place to have warding against teleportation. Either preventing it or dumping you into a trap. That said, it can definitely be useful for getting us close and avoiding patrols.
Kal being able to prepare from his entire spell list is going to be super helpful to us.
Insect Spies, Greater will let us scope out the area without risk of discovery. It also pairs well with Transport via Plants.
Air Walk, Communal. We don't want to take to the skies, but flight magic can still be good for traveling quickly and/or avoiding difficult terrain or obstacles.
Hunter's Blessing is a good party buff to a number of checks we'll likely need to make.
Cold resistance spells for the party will probably be a good use of spell slots. If it catches even 1 AoE effect it will pay for itself in regards to healing. Fair chance we'll run into acid as well.
| Maka Na'Shota |
Carry Companion is a great spell to keep in mind. A few castings and all the animals are safe in someone's bag/pocket. Usefully for situations that are too dangerous for them.
For us, this would help save on teleport slots.

I’ll post shortly to kick things off…if I’m reading things right, rainbow pattern can be cast when they’re about 220’ away…right as Sakitu casts it, Fin’ll fire an arrow at the dragonkin, and I imagine that’ll get their attention…and might give us another round or two of ranged attacks before they get to us…

I got the impression while we’re near the glacier, Ivorytower is atop it and it’s not a quick journey up there so it’ll take a while…unless perhaps we have enough spells to fly…but we might want to save those to make our escape…
| GM_Almonihah |
You're a few hundred feet from the glacier, and yes Ivoryglass is a ways up. A couple hours' climb, probably.
| GM_Almonihah |
So to be clear... you're going over to the glacier, finding a spot to hide, waiting until the patrol gets close, and ambushing them? I'm not missing any part of your plan?
Quasit*
|
My understanding was that they were coming up behind us, so I figured we could hide basically where we are and they'd come to us. But if the only cover is toward the glacier, that works fine too.
But otherwise yeah, we hide then ambush when they get close.
Findurêl

GM: Just checking. Not sure if you missed it right above Selena’s post, but Fin moved stealthily forward to scout out the entrance to Ivoryglass…
| GM_Almonihah |
I saw it, I just thought I'd wait and see if anyone else would do anything and then forgot about it.
| Maka Na'Shota |
So Maka would never think of this, but we could try to lie our way in. Tell the half truth that we are from another world, but that we signed up with that one general we killed after the attack. After the attack failed we made our way back with an "important" prisoner. With Kal being the prisoner since he is the only non-alien.
It would probably fall apart pretty quickly but could get us in the door.
Quasit*
|
Quasit is a pretty good bluffer, but I think the guards would want to see some sort of orders from that general. If we still had Tez with us, he might have been able to forge something, the way he forged our papers for getting into Whitethrone. I think the most likely outcome is that the guards either would say 'Wait here' and then contact their superiors to ask if they knew anything about these exotic mercenaries at the door, or they flat wouldn't believe us and would just attack us.
All of which we could possibly deal with, so I suppose it's an option. Quasit's favored mode of infiltration in most situations is just what you suggest.
I think it's very unlikely that this fort has an unguarded back door or an exposed sewer tunnel or something, and I'm guessing an ancient dragon's fortress has lots of magical wards around it. Tunneling through the rock foundation or tunneling through the ice walls are probably the first contingencies that any such magic would be set up to prevent. I'm also guessing that flying isn't a viable option, since both armies have ample flying capabilities, and so would have defenses against such a vector.
I'm also guessing that a fortress gate is going to be too tough to try to smash through without serious siege equipment, and its unlikely to simply be a lock that I could pick. So we have to either get them to open the door for us or use magic to bamff over to the other side. I think with Selena's spells, we stand our best chance. But Quasit could be persuaded if other viable alternatives are presented.

Maka reminds me of the Tick; in particular, I recall a couple episodes where he yells out:
”Hey, you in the pumps! Stop being bad!”
…and…
”Villain! Cease and desist! I say to you: Stop your evil ways!”
I think, if Maka should ever fall, Selena will reincarnate her and she’ll come back as the Tick.. ;)
| Maka Na'Shota |
Hahaha that's not a bad comparison.

Sorry for the delay. My son graduated from college this weekend so I've had a house full of family and a ton of activities to do.
I'll catch up tomorrow.

Congratulations to your son! That's an exciting day. :)

I remember my college graduation day. A beautiful June day, there I am in my black nylon robe and weird mortarboard hat, sitting through an hour of speeches then standing in line to get my diploma. When I got back to my seat and opened the little black folder, it was empty. Apparently I was one phys ed credit short of the graduation requirement, and no one had bothered to tell me. Naturally I kinda freaked out— I was starting med school in the fall and didn’t want to lose my spot because of a stupid phys ed credit. My family is not one for showy emotions, so there was no party or gifts or anything, my parents led me into our backyard, took a couple quick pictures while I was still in costume, and that was that. I still have the picture — it’s actually a good picture of me, though the best I could manage was a neutral stare.
The registrar arranged for me to do a sort of open weight-lifting thing over the summer, and managed to get my transcript forwarded to Michigan State just in time for the fall classes. I have studiously neglected to donate to my alma mater’s alumni fund ever since.
| Kalchine |
Congratulations to your son!
It is ironic that, for my college graduation, one of my parents took me out to eat (they're divorced) but for high school people I barely knew sent me pens and sandwich makers.
In theory those levels of celebration should have been reversed based on importance and difficulty of accomplishment...

Thanks for the congratulations. My son is aiming for med school but I think he's got a long road to get there. His plan is to take a full year to study for MCATs before even applying. I'm not sure it works that way but I don't know... I didn't do anything like that. Also, I'm not interested in discouraging him in trying for his goals.
In any case, he's glad to be done with his BS.
