Yeah, I haven't filled anything in, or hid those yet (since there's nothing in them) :)
Just seeing if it works for all.
Dareon Niroden |
I'm sorry - yes, I'm still around. I've hit a motivation lull for these boards in the past week or so. I'm contemplating potential actions to try and rectify it. For this game, honestly it's just that I'm not sure what I'd be doing.
Aardvark DM |
If it helps, Dareon, you are the resident scholar. If nothing else, you have the skills to answer most of the questions that the others may have. Not to mention, you have also kind of stepped into the role of leader. The others looking to what you say or do, and following your lead.
You guys returned to finish off the Tower Girls, and find the next Shard. The last of the Tower Girls has left, but if he focuses on the shard, the mental image received still shows the Crow itself.
Esmeralda, I get way too much silence or inactivity from you too often. I'm going to have to ask that you step it up a bit. Otherwise, it feels like we are missing a player, and I may have to ask that you excuse yourself so I can bring in a replacement.

Posting this in all of the Discussion pages I'm currently involved in.
Wondrous news! The court cases fell through, what with my Ex promptly realizing that suing someone for 300 dollars cost more than 300 dollars, despite me having explained that multiple times. I am officially out of that apartment and living in a dorm room again, which I'm very about. I kind of lost a few friends that were at the apartment, but only because I carefully told them that I wouldn't be coming anywhere near my ex, which they didn't really seem to understand as to why that involved them.
Anyways, yeah, new roommate, and a good semester in the future. With that, I have news that actually applies to you guys! I get to start posting consistently again, in part due to the fact that my anxiety about this whole situation is completely gone. I'm still a little bummed at the loss of friends, but I've got plenty of others and I've still got you guys, especially Leinathan, what with me and him being in games together for like a year and a half now.
So yeah, that said, the posting rate is going to skyrocket, and I seriously mean it this time. This had been going on for a long while, and it had been affecting my post rate but I originally didn't wanna mention it, until of course it started to have a realistic effect on me.
For the last few months I sincerely apologize, and I can only thank the guys in my own game for sticking it out with me. For the games that I'm currently in, I apologize, but I'm back for real and my posting rate is going to go up. Once again, I am really sorry.
So yeah. Back to business then :D
Aardvark DM |
Glad to hear that the RL you were having to deal with didn't get the best of you, and am also glad to hear that you are back with us to your regular posting rate.
Tanjvats |
Just to make sure my memory is good: when we left the tower girls and retreated with Oz's body, Dareon set the town guard to watching the Crow to see if anyone escaped.
Since we didn't get a message that anyone had escaped, I've assumed they're still here, or used magic.
Do we know for sure their still here, and I missed it?
Faedrin Lantherion |
I got the impression the guard(s) blew Dareon off. A boat was missing, Ayala's (presumably it was hers at least) chest was emptied... I think she up and bolted, dude.
Tanjvats |
Sure, pay attention and make me look all stupid. :-) See if I care.
Yeah, I was getting that feeling, too. Just wanted to make sure we're consciously not pursuing the shard at this instant. The joy of opening a tricky door can make folks forget what they're up to. But it's all handled IC, and I'm more than content.
On into the whispering dark!
Aardvark DM |
Sorry for my silence. Took a week off work, mostly just been catching up on my school work for the semester. I'm trying to update each of my games today.
Aardvark DM |
Things may be going fairly slow until the end of the semester, I bit off more than expected, so please bear with me. Sunday at work is currently the only solid free time I have to post.
Aardvark DM |
I apologize for my continued minimal presence, but the S**t storm of school work has been insane and I'm just working to keep up. Classes end soon, so please bear with me, and I will have the whole summer for posting.
Aardvark DM |
Duboris, are you still with us? Haven't heard from you in a while.
Aardvark DM |
Okay, things are looking up for my time. I only have two finals left on Fri (with some studying before hand), so once those are done I am free for the summer.
Who is still with the game? I hope I have not lost anyone during my lag. I have not seen much from Esmeralda in quite some time and very infrequently before the game even slowed. I have to be prepared to replace him if need be.
Dareon Niroden |
I'm still around - I don't think Duboris has been on the boards in a month or two. He hasn't inactive-d a game of his that I was playing in and we stopped it due to his inactivity a long time ago.
Esmeralda Salazar |
I am, most definitely, still here. I've just had a really rough patch in my life as of late, in addition to what I told the other games. I don't know why the message didn't go through on this one, however. I thought it had.
Basically it was a lot of college anxiety, divorce, depression and a bit of unneccesary "Father breaking my computer" shenanigans...
Though that said! The new computer is awesome and I'm back.
Aardvark DM |
@Esmeralda. Well, I'm glad you're still with us, and I'm sorry to hear about the hardships.
@All, in the map tool there are two vision templates. One for a light source, that includes the ranges of both normal and low-light vision, and one for darkvision. Those that control a light source, feel free to move the template as your light moves. If you grab either of them, it is best to do so from the center point, to easier line up with the source. They are layered behind you on the maps, so you should have no problems clicking through them. Please try not to distort them, they were a bit of a hassle to make.
Faedrin Lantherion |
Are you back with us, Esmeralda? You had one post in April, three in May and none so far throughout June. =(
If things are too rough for you to play, dude, maybe you should take a legit break from the boards until things settle? Whatever you decide, I sincerely hope things turn around for you. Sounds like you went through the ringer.
Aardvark DM |
It's partially on me, I was spacing on who was next.
If anything, those of you willing, I would ask at least until the end of this fight:
Fade bot Penance
Kascio bot Esmeralda
This is because you have turns together, so Fade can take both his and Penance's turn in the same action and remain in order, and Kascio can do the same with Esmeralda.
I will be posting shortly, so no need for Esmeralda. We can start it when it gets to Penance's turn.

I'd like to take this opportunity to say that I'm bored to tears with this PbP and that Shattered Star is a terrible example of an AP that's good for PbP.
Dungeons, especially one as pointless-feeling as the Crow, are just...grinding teeth in PbP, which is a format that is optimal for role-play.
And it doesn't get better. I'm starting Chapter 4 in a F2F Shattered Star and I'm even bored of the continuing dungeons in that game.
Aardvark DM |
Thank you for letting me know. What does this mean? Are you dropping out of the game, or are you looking to open discourse on other options (and what they may be)?
What of the rest of you, what are your opinions?
Dareon Niroden |
My primary desire would be to change the game to a different game. I don't really think that this adventure path (or...probably this current adventure) has very much desirable longevity.
Faedrin Lantherion |
Well, I can't argue with Dareon on that point. Though I'd given Shattered Star my highest vote when we were determining what to do, I have since learned that lengthy dungeon crawls can be really tough in the pbp format.
If we have a lot of dungeons ahead of us in this and we want to continue on, I think we'd be well served to maybe come up with some form of stream-lining our traversal through the dungeons. (since we have a set formation and such already, maybe Aard could advance us if one person indicates a direction and there's no in-game disagreement, perhaps we could add taking-10 back into the game and presume we're doing so with perception checks or other skills that might speed things up, etc?)
I think our slow rate of posting (lately strongly influenced by Duboris' in-again-out-again posting) combined with the hard stop that happens with every new door and hall and room adds up to the achingly slow pace which Dareon describes.
---
If abandoning Shattered Star and switching to a different AP with our current roster of players is an option, it's one I'd be willing to discuss as well.
Dareon Niroden |
Fade's got the right of it. Doing a dungeon crawl as you would in a F2F format, but via PbP instead goes for months of opening doors and finding an empty room on the other side.
Shattered Star is a good adventure path, but it's entirely full of dungeons and for that to work, we either need to change our MO or we need to switch up to something with more role-play and less delving.
I agree that whether Duboris is here or not led to a lot of delays.
Aardvark DM |
I'd be willing to consider starting a different AP, if that's what the group wants.
Sadly, I don't know that changing the MO of exploration will help much. For example, the one person stating a direction, and there being no argument. That could mean either no one disagrees, or no one checked their posts. I have no way of knowing.
The roster of available games (for me to run) has increased. I have all of them except Jade Regent. I only have PDF (which make things much easier for me), for RotRL (original), and everything from S&S and after.
I will NOT run Skull & Shackles or Kingmaker. Just as too much dungeon can bog a PbP, so can too much Sandbox.
I currently run a CotCT, and a MM (so they are also out).
I will wait to hear from our other two players for their opinions.
Faedrin Lantherion |
That could mean either no one disagrees, or no one checked their posts. I have no way of knowing.
As a player, I'm ok with this. If things keep moving I'm more incentivized to check the game and post. And when I'm not able to do so (like if it's a busy weekend or what have you), I also like knowing that my brief absence doesn't slow things for the rest of the group. I think it's doubly helpful for games where the GM is busy and isn't able to post multiple times/day.
That kind of pace would certainly need to be agreed upon by all, but I find it makes for more engaging games.
Regardless, it's just an example/idea. If anyone has any others, I'd be eager to hear them!
Tanjvats |
I'm happy to do what other folks want, either speed up play or change APs. I'll sure miss Tanjvats, though.
Another option might be to not bite off an entire path, but do individual adventures. That way we could always be picking RP-heavy adventures. This is obviously dependent on Aard's access to material. (I have a ton of Dungeon mags, but no pdfs.)
Here's the list of available APs (the ones Aard has nixed are struck-through). I have PDFs I'm willing to share for all of them, including the updated RotRL:
Rise of the Runelords
CotCT
Second Darkness
Legacy of Fire
Council of Thieves
Kingmaker
Serpents Skull
Carrion Crown
Jade Regent
Skulls & Shackles
Shattered Star (with new MO and perhaps more RP)
Reign of Winter
Wrath of the Righteous
Mummy's Mask
Iron Gods
Giantslayer
Of those options, and the focus on RP, my top 3 would be:
Council of Thieves
Second Darkness
Jade Regent
Faedrin Lantherion |
I've really enjoyed what I've seen of Rise of the Runelords, though across 6 different games and groups I've still never finished the first chapter. I played through a decent bit of Council of Thieves (got as far as finishing some crazy, extra-dimensional maze-prison in a middle chapter) and really enjoyed that game as well.
Of the APs Tanj has reproduced that Aard hasn't ruled out, I'm *currently* playing through the following:
Carrion Crown (2 games)
Shattered Star (playing with another group that's a good bit further along; just entering the Lady's Light or somesuch near a crazy witch who makes terrible stew)
Reign of Winter (1 game)
Giantslayer (1 game which I just got recruited into yesterday that doesn't even have a gameplay thread yet)
---
The only one in the broader list I'd say I have very little interest in is Iron Gods.
But, as Tanjvats said, I'm happy to go with the group consensus though. If that's continue our present story or start a new one, I'm fine either way.
