Yep you are in the oregent base district. The office is in the lumberyards district, which is mostly walled off from the rest of the city. The only real path into the lumberyards without running into a wall is east pass the smelting yards district and then south between the yards and lumber lodges district until you get into the lumberyard district. The only other way in is by the lumberyards district gate which you can enter from outside the city.

Zatsa Seastar |

I was just about to post but something occured to me. How high are the walls that separate the lumber yards from the other districts?
Would Zatsa know that or would you require a check first?

DM Alaion |

Well you passed the walls on your way in. Their uniform across the city, their 30 ft. tall with walk ways for the patrols atop them. Those around the lumberyards and not bordering outside the city are patrolled by the lumber consortium's personnel instead of the city guard. The city guard does not concern itself with the lumberyards sense of privacy.

Zatsa Seastar |

Really sorry with how long that took but the post is up. I stopped before entering the office proper as I would like a quick little description of it, how guarded it is and number of entrances etc. I also wasn't sure how much creative liberty to take. My checks were good but guards may still have detected me.
If I made any mistakes please don't hold it against me too hard. Im sleepy but i decided it was unacceptable to but off posting any longer.

Zatsa Seastar |

No new questions just want to clarify and make sure I understand the layout of the building. The ground floor has one entrance that ive seen so far which has a pair of guards each with a hound. And one of those pairs seems to make random patrols. There are barred windows on the ground floor and the second floor has a fenced balcony, which does not appear to have anyone guarding it?

Zatsa Seastar |

How far off the ground is the balcony? And is the wall next to it made of stone or wood?
Let me know if Zatsa needs additional perception checks for the info or stealth checks to maintain her position undetected while she takes note of the layout.

Zatsa Seastar |

Sorry I typed that quickly I was referring to the wall the balcony is connected to. Is it stone or wood? Curious about how hard climbing it would be If I cant jump to reach the bottom of the balcony.

DM Alaion |

The building is stone, I thought I said that before. Oh well as for a vertical jump at that, it would not be easy to put it mildly. Going by the rules you would need to make a DC 60 Acrobatics check barring any ability or magic. Horizontal jumps are more forgiving but the height still makes it hard.

Zatsa Seastar |

To be fair you said the building was stone and wood, so I was hoping there'd be some wood in the wall (easier to sink in a dagger or climbing spike). As for the jump since Zatsa is at least five feet tall I was hoping I wouldn't need to make the full jump, just enough to grab on and pull herself up with a check. That's still like a DC 40 so either way I don't think I'll be making that jump ;).
Im working on creating some kind of a distraction to lure away the guard who stays by the door while the other is on his patrol. Would you allow me to make skill checks to mimic the sounds of animals that might draw his notice? If so which skills would it be? Some combination of perform sing and bluff?

Zatsa Seastar |

I wouldn't have thought training could overcome instinct but a quick google search suggests that yes it really can.
Hopefully this plan works a little better, fingers crossed that the rope was the item you were mentioning.
By the way this is how I pictured the balcony So these are the stone pillars I referred to in my post, hopefully that was clear without the picture aid, but I'm not the best writer in the world so just in case.

Zatsa Seastar |

Also hopefully I haven't given you too bad an impression of my playstyle and creativity with my posts thus far. Its just that most of my experience with role-playing games the main DM I played with for years was definitely more about combat then anything else, so I do struggle a little more when my creativity is needed. Plus ive always had a party to rely on if creativity fails me.
Either way all of this just to say I hope you are not finding my posts exasperating to read. There are many cantrips and common items that I've never had cause to use so I don't think about them as quickly as I should.

DM Alaion |

Well sometimes people forget that RPG's are more about the RP and less about the G, that's why it takes up two of the three letters. :D
But really if your into combat then video games is more the way to go rather then pbp. That said I have nothing against video games, I play a few myself regularly and look forward to certain new releases. Even in a beta right now.
Anyways no problem I just didn't want to kill you or have you fail just because you got a little stumped. The fact that you figured it out after a little thought proves you have creativity when you want to. Flex that brain, keeps you young buddy. :)
I'll have a post up later. Btw how is the PC going for FR?

Zatsa Seastar |

Well that was my point, to date most of my games have been more roll-playing than role-playing. Don't get me wrong I like role-playing I just find that sometimes when I need to flex my brain it doesn't always come easily to me.
As for the FR character, its going alright. I have a couple of characters half built, still not exactly sure what class and race I want to play thought I have the character's personality and motives mostly mapped out. Teiidae and I are still bouncing ideas off each other.

Zatsa Seastar |

Do I need to pass both checks to have access to the info in the spoiler? Based on previewing I know I'll pass one but not the other.

Zatsa Seastar |

Not sure if you were just busy or if you didn't notice but I am waiting on a post from you to proceed.
Not wanting to rush you, just letting you know in case you hadn't noticed.

Zatsa Seastar |

Its fine and if it makes you feel any better, they just sent my boss on vacation for a month whether he likes it or not, so my department of three just became two during the busiest time of year.

Zatsa Seastar |

S@## I done goofed. I checked the post a day after you responded but I've been so swamped at work that I never responded and forgot that you had. Work is starting to slow down as my boss is finally back from vacation so there shouldn't be any huge delays anymore.
With any luck I can finally start putting serious effort into that FR character you were promised, assuming you haven't lost interest in running another game. Which you would be forgiven for if that was the case.

Zatsa Seastar |

Hopefully this will be the last time I apologize for late posting, but a new boss is coming in to replace my old one and work should finally begin to operate at the level it was originally supposed to, so no more vanishing for a week or two at a time.

Zatsa Seastar |

So the new boss started last week and then immediately quit when his daughter got hurt in a car accident, the new-new boss seems competent though and Im finally back to five day weeks. Hope work is slowing down a little for you as well.

Zatsa Seastar |

This is just a test I haven't been able to post in any games or send private messages for the last few days. Teiidae has been having the same issue. He says he'll post as soon as the boards are functioning.

Zatsa Seastar |

Its not a problem, not like I've been diligent about posting myself.

Zatsa Seastar |

What is this sorcery?!? I distinctly recall updating and thought I was waiting on you.
Sorry man you'll get my post in about two hours, once I get home.

Zatsa Seastar |

Not gonna lie, I intended for her to still be on the balcony. :)
Give me a little time to think of the best response and ill get a post up in a bit.

Zatsa Seastar |

Im not sure if you can see deleted posts as the GM but apparently I accidentally doubled posted, trying to fix an OOC post where I forgot an 'o'.
Im somewhat confident a dog would be unable to track an invisible woman whose scent it has never smelt before but im not taking the chance you disagree. So for now we're hauling ass.

Zatsa Seastar |

I might be overthinking this but my spell has only a single round left before it expires.
It would end at the end of my current turn or the at the beginning of my next turn?

Zatsa Seastar |

Alright, makes sense. G$& d!~n I wish i had taken silent image instead of sleep right about now.

Zatsa Seastar |

Plan for the moment is to head to the nearest gate and try and sneak or charm my way through or failing that find a wall she can scale. If she can't escape back into another district, she can get over the wall and outside the city and try her luck outside the walls if needs be.
If memory serves you described the walls of the city and of this district as being 30 feet tall.

Zatsa Seastar |

Sorry Ive been sick as a dog for the last few days so posting motivation is low. Ill get you my Half-assed, seat of the pants, hair-brained scheme to get over the garden wall in a day or two.

Zatsa Seastar |

Hey man really sorry to have left you hanging for the last few weeks. Just as I was getting better I discovered that I have an infected cyst again. Ive been busy prepping for some surgery to have it cut out so i can be all healed up before school starts in February.
Understandably (I hope) I let this fall to the way side. I have the next three days off So I'll sit down and write a response tomorrow morning or afternoon. Just had my final visit to my surgeon before my surgery in a few weeks so i should have time to post once more.
