A Mission of Mercy

Game Master greg white 722

To add to the ravages of a brutal civil war The Schaler Trivarium must also now suffer a terrible plague. You have accepted a mission to deliver a vital supply of much needed serum to the system. Delivery of the serum and other much needed medical supplies to an awaiting hospital ship, it should be an easy mission.

A quick examination reveals that the Major is in seriously bad shape: the repeat laser blasts he received from Fineline may have cause blood clots. Dr. Feldspar, please make a test against Medic.

There is a dull clank, as the magnetic grapnels strike the Luis Wu's outer hull.

Medic: 2d6 + 2 ⇒ (4, 1) + 2 = 7

Aurora works feverishly to save the Major's life.

No good, you're loosing him.

It's an outside chance, but maybe if you give him a dose of 'Fast' Drug (your med-kit has two doses), you can stave off complete brain-death long enough to get him into one of the low-berth chambers, and put him into suspended animation long enough to get him to a proper medical facility.

Dr. Aurora Feldspar F34 (34) SI MD 343B82-A(U)

Aurora, thinking quickly, digs in her medkit for the Fast drug. Without much pause, she administers the drug and begins dragging the Major's unconscious body to a low berth.

Pale and wide-eyed, Georg watches you drag the Major.

Georg: Is he dead?

The approaching vessel: Our people are on the way over now, open the airlock!

Male Human Pilot

Anson trusts Aurora to do her work and resignedly opens the airlock, keeping an outward facade of calm.

"Not yet," Aurora answers, "But he *unh* will be if we don't get him into a lower berth."

A noticeably shaken Georg assists Aurora in dragging the Major towards low berths.

Fineline: From the indicators you see that someone is in the airlock, and the outer doors are being closed.

Feldspar: You note that 'Georg' has apparently put down his data-slate, while he helps you with the Major.

Boone: Smiling purple frogs with festive party hats are taking you on a wondrous adventure.

Not the marmalade slide....again!!!!

Male Human Pilot

Anson stays at the control panel, bringing up a video feed of the airlock if one is available.

Georg: I knew this was not a good idea! Grunting he helps you drag the Major into the Lower Berth chamber, and then stands by, looking anxiously on, as you power up the cryo-tube.

Fineline, you see two figures in the airlock. They have cleaver like blades hung on their belts.

Can't very well be a space pirate without a sword can you!

Male Human Pilot

One thing after another, Anson thinks and continues monitoring what they do under the guise of helping them board.

He double-checks his ship's defenses but knows it will do little if they truly had a fusion charge somewhere. Still, whatever measure of control he could have was welcome.

The airlock pressurization cycle is just about completed.

Aurora, you have managed to get the major into the cryo-tube.

So the inner airlock door hisses open, and the two pirates stride into the common room, stopping before Boone's unconscious form.

One of the pair lifts the visor on his helmet, strides into the bridge.

Pirate 1: Where's the Major?

Male Human Pilot

Anson answers briskly, making a show of focusing on guiding the ship.

Anson: Injured. Our doctor is attending to him now.

Pirate 1: Go check on the Major (this is to his companion). (To you)We'll need to establish a bridge-control between your vessel and ours.

A bridge control effectively slaves the control of one craft to another, making possible precise, tandem maneuvers.

The other pirate makes way to the back of the ship, picking up Boone's weapon from the floor, as he crosses the common crew area.

Dr. Feldspar makes a final check of the Low Berth settings: there doesn't seem to be anything more she can do here.

Georg: In a low voice There's no fusion charge. They're lying about that.

Male Human Pilot

Anson doesn't look too pleased at having to slave his ship to another, but eventually acknowledges that the pirates have the upper hand on them.

Anson: Don't trust my piloting skills? But if you think that's really necessary....

In the hold, Dr. Feldspar sees a figure in a vac suit approaching.

Pirate 2 in hold :Where's the Major?

Aurora hooks her thumb behind her, indicating the lower berth. "It was necessary to save his life," she notes.

Georg: It's true! She helped the Major before she helped her shipmate!

Pirate 2: Where's your data-slate!

Somewhat sheepishly Georg disappears among the cargo pallets.

"You are in control here," Aurora notes to the pirate. "No one is disputing that."

Pirate 2: Go ahead, and check on Boone.

On the bridge, a dejected Fineline enables the bridge-control protocols. From the way the pirate hovers over his shoulder he quickly gets the idea that a helmet-cam is recording his actions at the console.

Male Human Pilot

Still unaware that the threat is not real, Anson bristles at being monitored so overtly and consciously tries to make no threatening actions.

Fineline gets the acknowledgement from the console that the bridge-control protocols have been accepted.

Pirate 2 looks over the unconscious Boone. Pirate 1 seems to be in communication with his fellows in the other vessel.

Male Human Pilot

Anson focuses his eyes forward but tries to listen in if they're speaking out loud.

Recon (unskilled): 2d6 - 3 ⇒ (4, 5) - 3 = 6

Dam. He has closed his visor, and through the darkly tinted glass you can only see his lips move.

Pirate 1: Initiate the pre-jump sequence!

Pirate 1: You heard me Fineline! Initiate the pre-jump sequence!

Timidly Georg appears from behind the cargo pallets, data-slate in hand.

Pirate 2: Don't let that slate out of your hands!

Male Human Pilot

Sorry!

Anson begins the pre-jump sequence.

Nervously, Fineline goes through the checklist.

A jump from the middle of asteroid field, with bridged controls, could be hairy, and it is certainly nothing he would do if there wasn't the threat of a fusion charge hanging over his head.

No problem.

Male Human Pilot

Anson: I hope you're not planning we jump from here.

Watching the Luis Wu's sensor instruments, Fineline sees the pirate vessel, quickly accelerate, and then jump.

Seconds later, his own vessel's acceleration alarms begin to blare.

Male Human Pilot

Biting down a curse, Anson moves to follow, trying to reduce damage to his ship.

Running under the bridge controls, the Luis Wui leaps into jump-space.

Pirate 1: We're going to be in Jump for 72 hours.

He undogs his helmet.

So we all might as well all relax. Don't you think you might try to revive Boone?

Pirate 1: I'm Thune.

Thune is a young man, with a broad, freckled face. Around his left eye there's a tribal tat in iridescent, metallic ink.

Male Human Pilot

To clarify, is this the pirate with Anson or with Aurora? I assumed me at first but then thought it would be Aurora because he spoke about reviving Boone. But then now I thought he could simply be speaking to me as the captain.

He's speaking to you as captain.

That tattoo. It's familiar, at least in style to you.

I'm going to have Dr. Feldspar revive Boone. We need more than one active, conscious player! Boone is conscious, but he has 12 points of damage .

"Oooh..what hit me?? Gah! That stupid stun-bot! Whats happening??"

Boone gingerly sits up and looks around.

Sorry, it's been a busy week. I'm still here, just behind.

Male Human Pilot

Anson: Of course. Our ship's doctor should be working on the injured right now. I'm Captain Anson.

Anson turns to face the man, eyes tracing the tattoo on his left eye for a moment. It seems familiar but he can't place it.

Anson: You're welcome to check in medical.

Is it alright for me to leave the ship unpiloted? It should be on automatic, but better safe than sorry. Also, is it near a mealtime? Could be a good time to eat whatever it is we have available.

Feldspar: it would probably be a good idea to get Boone into his bunk.

Fineline: It would be probably be safe to eat while the craft is in jump.

Thune: I won't ask that you give me your weapon, but I will ask that you stow in the ship's locker .

Fine, fine! Not like I am in any condition to use them anyway!"

Aurora moves to help Boone from the floor. "Lets get you to your bunk," she says.
