The question remains, should I play a more normal misfit/monster race or not?

Lizardfolk have always been one of my favorite races I wish was a player race.

They have the Reptoid as an option.

Looking into the old Shade race is its allowed, from Races of Faerun, they remove part of their soul to gain greater power.

I would take the LA of 4 on 1 side of the gestalt if you like. Their CR is 2 so it shouldn't throw off much.

Wouldn't it be less paperwork to take 2 off each class?

I think he is following the thought of Shade 4/Class 1//Class 5
So he is not Shade 2/Class 3//Shade 2/Class 3

But the Shade is powerful if you can remain in the shadows. So I think that way is best.

What could be done is;
Shade 2/Shade 2 + Class 1/Class 2

So he's at level 3

Jon I also figured a way to do a troll without using all 5 class level.

A divine caster would be a boon, I might go Spell-less ranger(3pp) and a druid or maybe an oracle. Figured the ranger would be good for scouting/navigation.

Which version; the Pathfinder version (LA4, 4 levels) or the 3.5 version (LA3, 3 levels). They are different enough to warrant the LA difference between the two.

Probably the pathfinder version just for consistency, also hoping he would allow the breath weapon feat from 3.5's Races of Dragons that way I could have my breath weapon for more than just once per day.

I can understand that, since I have a half-dragon in another campaign.

If you go with the PF Half-dragon you'd only get 3 class (non-racial) levels.

That's fine with me, probably easier than making some in game silly "throw gold at Dm to get what I want" ritual.

wow, so much going on...what is the time frame for starting the campaign? I just want to make sure I plan appropriately since I have to take some mid-terms soon.

Make a build I won't say for sure it will be approved but it helps.

I think a Shade might honestly be too strong.

I don't think it's that bad, it's far and I do mean far weaker than a vampire, you're susceptible to fire(most common element) and some of your abilities are only passive if you have your cloak of penumbra( you might be better off turning that into a slotless item) which can be dispelled and I'm sure there are some light spells that can counter penumbra( I think)

Nilbog

We can use a custom made cantrip (1500 GP) to suppress his Confusion field

I know Shade is good but with a +4 Deflection, a +4 or +5 to all saves, Invisibility each round, Fast Healing 2, the ability to control all light in an area, shadow stepping.

Oh I understand, but I've seen much worse. Had a party that had vampires, someone with the feral template that was a swordsage(3.5) and a lack of understanding about it and I think a liche.

While the Shade is very good it could be manageable, but it's your character so whatever works.

Shade is a favorite of mine. But I didnt want to step on toes.
If he allowed the Nilbog the goblin would be the comic relief.

I don't mind having a nilbog tag along. I just can't get my head around the actual lore way they heal damage and vice-versa.

The Niibog's damage through healing only is probably a bit much.
