Using downtime to rule

Kingmaker

Hello all,

I am just starting into book 2 of Kingmaker and am exceedingly excited to get into the kingdom building. I've easily spent 100+ hours reading and rereading rules from different sources such as Ultimate Campaign and Ultimate Rulership, both of which the GM is pulling from (given the amount of reading I've done, I'm giving a little input). The downside is that some things I remember coming across are escaping me. I could swear that somewhere there were rules written for if you decided to have your PC spend the whole month ruling, rather than just the obligatory one week. I thought it gave something like a +2 to the kingdom score you contribute, or perhaps doubled your bonus. Can someone help point me to where I would have read that (assuming such a rule exists)?

Just done a check over the rules in UCam and URule and can't find anything like that.

It's possible that it's an option from some obscure source and is included in a compilation somewhere, I suppose.

Having said that, I think it's a pretty good idea! I'd say that for every 7 days beyond the first, the character gets a +2 bonus to their kingdom score modifier. This gives a nice bonus for spending extra time, but prevents utterly stupid modifiers like someone with a stat of 30 getting their +10 doubled.

I'm not familiar with that one either - and I don't think it's a good one, since it incentivizes you to stay home and rule, instead of going out and interacting with the adventure. Book 2, and really all the books, involve some level of kingdom ruling, and some level of personal adventuring. You don't want to set up rulers that encourage the ruling PCs to keep ruling and send other people out to sort of their problems.

You're a player so I'm going to be careful with how I answer this:

I'm at the very tail end of running Kingmaker and I'm sure that rule isn't in UCam nor URule. There's no way I would've allowed that in my game, not because it would encourage PCs to stay at home but there are times where I had the players do a couple of kingdom turns without any significant adventuring. So to give them bonuses during those times would discourage me from passing time and the passage of time is one of my favourite aspects of Kingmaker. It makes the lives of the PCs (as well as the kingdom) seem much more real.

Wouldn't that also mean that the NPCs on the council are constantly getting a bonus to their contributions? That would be a terrible idea.
