Starfinder Horror: Accursed Companions, Corruptions, and more

Advice

Just the other day I was looking over Horror Realms and Horror Adventures, two among my favorate pathfinder books, and it got me thinking: How well would the tools provided in these function under Starfinder?

Now, the title refers to two of these, Accursed Companions (which would be applied to a mechanist's drones) and Corruptions, but I would also like to acknowledge and leave room for discussion for the other things: Sanity rules, Fear, Haunts, ect.

How well do you think the Corruptions would work under Starfinder? Any that would require changes in flavor, or changes more than just running a few of them through Pathfinder to Starfinder conversions? Hive, for instance, would likely require conversions of a couple of creatures.

What about accursed companions? How do you think those rules would work when applied to drones?

Any other horrific content you feel is worth acknowledgement and discussion when applied to Starfinder?

And lastly: If you were running, or were a part of, a horror campaign set in Starfinder, what would it be? How would you capture, or want to deal with, that feeling of dread set in a setting with interplanetary travel, high tech, and so on.

If you want to look at ways to handle existential dread/horror type stuff in sci fi eclipse phase does it pretty well.

Also even in the pact worlds acturn is filled with elder mythos cultists and other crazies that deal with things best not dealt with. Very much call of cthullu possibilities there if you want to explore that with just stuff from the setting itself. The new AP also covers the cult of the devourer which is an entity that basically wants to end everything.

1 person marked this as a favorite.

A few dialog-based adventure starters with a horror flavor.

"There are sections of Pipetown where even the androids won't go," the old mechanic said in a low voice. "Whole passages and subsystems of the station abandoned. I've heard the gangs and addicts won't even squat there." . . .

"That was one of the most profitable mines on Akiton before -- the accident," the weathered mine officer explained to the newcomers. "There have been attempts to reopen it, but something always goes wrong." There was a quiet tone of reverent fear in the man's voice as he spoke. "And people who've gone in have reported seeing or hearing things that'll make your skin crawl."

"Don't wander into the mists at night," the wizened lashunta guide cautioned the explorers. "This valley is cursed." Castrovel held many secrets, secrets even the elves avoided delving into, and it was said that this valley concealed many of them, along with unimaginable biological riches."
