Unchained Monk Archetypes: The Zen Archer

Homebrew and House Rules

Since I really like the Unchained Monk Class and many of the old archetypes I try to rewrite them for the Unchained Monk.
I mark the changes vs the normal Archetype in bold
Starting with one of my favorites: The Zen-Archer

Proficiencies:
Zen archers are proficient with longbows, shortbows, composite longbows, and composite shortbows in addition to their normal weapon proficiencies.

Flurry of Blows:
The Zen Archer can make a flurry of blows like the Unchained Monk, but only using Bows. He does not add his Strength modifier unless he uses a composite bow.

Bonus Feats:
A zen archers bonus feats are as following:
Combat Reflexes, Deflect Arrows, Dodge, Far Shot, Point-Blank Shot, Precise Shot and Rapid Shot
At 6th Level he adds the following feats:
Focused Shot, Improved Precise Shot, Manyshot, Mobility, Parting Shot
At 10th Level he adds the following feats:
Improved Critical, Pinpoint Targeting, Shot on the Run, Snatch Arrows
A Monk does not need the prerequisities normal required to select these feats.
This alters the Monk bonus feats.

Perfect Strike:
At 1st Level a Zen Archer gains Perfect Strike as Bonus feat. He can use Perfect Strike with any bow. At 10th Level a monk can roll up to three times and take the highest result. If any of these rolls is a critical threat he must choose one of the other two rolls to confirm the critical.

Way of the Bow:
At 2nd Level a Zen Archer gains Weapon Focus with a bow of his choice.
At 6th Level he gains Weapon Specialization with the same bow.
This ability replaces evasion.

Point Blank Master:
At 3rd Level a Zen Archer gains Point-Blank Master as Bonus feat, even if he doesn't meet the prerequsities.
This ability replaces Still Mind

Ki Pool:
At 4th Level, in addition to his normal abilities of his Ki Pool, a Zen Archer may spend 1 Ki of his Ki Pool to increase the range increment of his bows by 50ft. For 1 round.

Zen Archery:
At 4th Level, a Zen Archer may, as long as he has at least 1 point in his Ki Pool, use his Wisdom modifier on ranged attack rolls with the bow instead of his Dexterity modifier.
This Ability replaces his first Ki Power.

Ki Arrows:
At 5th Level, a Zen Archer may spend 1 Point from his Ki-Pool as Swift Action to change the damage dice of the arrows he shoots to that of his unarmed strikes. This lasts until the start of his next turn.
This ability replaces his first Styls Strike.

Reflexive Shot:
At 9th Level, a Zen Archer can make Attacks of Opportunity with Arrows from his bow. He still threatens squares he could reach with his unarmed Strikes and make his usual amount of Attacks of Opportunity per round.
This replaces improved evasion.

Infused Ki-Arrows:
At 10th Level, a Zen Archer who chooses Ki-Leech as his Ki Power may use the power with his bow, bit only if he uses Ki-Arrows.
This replaces the additional Style Strike at 9th Level.

Trick Shot:
At 11th Level, a Zen Archer may hit targets he might otherwise miss. By spending 1 point from his Ki-Pool as a swift Action, the Zen Archer may ignore concealment. By Spending 2 points he may ignore total concealment or cover. By spending 3 Points he can ignore total Cover, even firing arrows around corners. The target must still be able to reach the target
This replaces the additional Style Strike at 13th Level.

Ki Focus Bow
At 15th Level. as Long as the Zen has at least 1 Point in his Ki Pool he may treat bows he wield as if they were Ki-Focus weapons.
This replaces the second Style Strike at 15th Level.

Greater Way of the Bow:
At 17th Level a Zen Archer gains greater Weapon Focus and Greater Weapon Specialization as Bonus feats.
This replaces the additional Style Strike at 17th Level.

So what do you think? And which one next?

1 person marked this as a favorite.

I am running this as a player now. I will let you know how it goes. Seems logical so far. I am level 4 and we are in the Giant Slayer AP. Sorry to necro this thread from 2016 :-)
