Someone broadcasting your Age whether you like it or not...

Off-Topic Discussions

Sometimes things come out and hit you where you don't expect.

For the most part, I am a guy who does guy things these days. However, I am still VERY touchy about my age. Even my own kids don't know my actual birthdate or age.

So there comes this guy who starts telling everyone about my age and how old I am. His kids know my age and broadcast it...and I shouldn't be, but I'm really mad about it.

He got it from access to online records, which I also don't approve of having my information like that online and accessible by others, and for some reason he gets a kick about it.

So, I did a google search on how to deal with someone like this. Most of it is why not to tell others your age, and things like that. I couldn't find anything on how to deal with someone who simply wants to tell your age to everyone whether you want him to or not.

Any ideas?

Talk to him like a reasonable adult?

As long as you demonstrate that you have a button, you're going to wind up finding a jerk determined to press it.

I'd focus on what it is exactly that makes you so protective of your B-day and age. Cat's out of the bag now on age, but if there are other sources of information you want to protect, you can be proactive.

The only idea I have is moving to EU (assuming you are not living here already), we have privacy laws that restrict spreading personal information about others, though it probably varies across the specific constituent countries anyway. You would be able to demand that removal of your publicly available record kept on EU-based server.

I don't think it's the solution you seek and it won't solve the damage already done.

Didn't work, and requests are ignored by him.

There are many that don't like others stating their age or knowing how old they are.

I admit, much of it probably is vanity. There are a few more logical reasons for age sensitivity however.

Overall, I tend to try to be protective of personal information if I can, and someone simply spreading it for no real good reason isn't something I'm very happy about.
