Well, it is a safe way for many people to explore the issue. My friend has a child that does not identify, and I would find this as a way to gain more insight to the relationship he has with his child. It is not a matter of "being done to death", it is a matter of having a safe platform with which to find a greater depth of understanding. The very nature of a "dual" god lends to this kind of character, so why not take the opportunity to play one?

I guess you're right about that - that was probably what was going on in 3 out of 4 instances. The guy who made an elven archivist of Gozreh was probably just parodying V from OotS.

I still dislike clichés though, literary or otherwise. Why can't we have nonbinary characters of Shelyn? She's big on inner beauty and stuff. Or we could have a transexual person of Asmodeus - that'd make for a really interesting story arc, with RP hooks coming out the ears*.

But noo, it always gotta be Gozreh.
* Admittedly, people probably don't want gender conflict if they're using RP as escapism from real-world issues, but if someone is in a place where they can do this, it'd have great conflict hooks.

/End rant. Sorry if it offends, but I'm easily riled up by clichés. People should be whoever they are, obviously.

@TwelvePointFivePercent: Because you accidentally replaced an "h" with a "g" which makes it a racial slur...

Well, this seems like a really cool twist. I like it. I have two ideas in mind, which would you think is more appropriate?

The First:

The first was my submission in the other RotRL recruitment that just ended. Originally, he was to be a Witch Doctor Shaman with VMC Cleric.

Shaman (Witch Doctor)

Chosen spirit - Life
Spirit animal - Raven (reflavored as a whipporwill)

I'll have to rethink the traits in light of your rules compared to the other campaign.

Theravdo was an orphan from the day he was born. His mother died in his birth, and his father, having no clue what to do with the strange boy with the feathery wings, told the midwife, a priestess of Pharasma, to take him away. He was never really taught the way if the clergy, but he just kind of...picked up...on the energy around. All the death, and the Spirits passing...he could just, sort of, feel it. While he loved Pharasma for the good her church did in midwifery, healing, and combating the undead, he couldn't stand the church's lack of commitment to truly do good. So while it was evident he had a gift, he wasn't sir it was directly through her touch, but more the life itself he saw through the people who came to services. He left the church he grew up when he came of age, and has been traveling from town to town since, just hoping to do good...Healing, saying a prayer over the dead, or such...without staying long enough to grow attached. Because its easier to remain neutral like they taught him when you're unattached, even if he desperately wants to do more.

He's got a sort of a disenfranchised worshipper feel to him. Not a heretic, so much as...how can I put this...a reformationist? He really believes but is totally frustrated with the neutrality, as he believes given how prevalent Pharasma is as one of the most worshiped deities in Golarion, they can do so much more

Originally he was an Aasimar, but I think this story can also work pretty readily with a human, since you seem to have a preference for them. I'll have to redo the crunch a bit.

idea 2:

This isn't as fleshed out, because I haven't had the time, but really...I'm talking about a prophesied war leader dedicated to Gorum. A barbarian or bloodrager, haven't decided on bloodline, because I haven't looked over those as thoroughly as sorcerer, but destined sounds about right. A tribal from the Lands of the Linnorm Kings, or Realm of the Mammoth Lords, that general area.

If you're okay with pets, I'd like to go with Mounted Fury Barbarian, eventually with Mammoth Rider.

He's eventually supposed to be amazing, per this prophecy and his birthmark, but of course, he's extremely young and unbloodied compared to most of his tribe, and very much eager to prove himself

I hear what you are saying about Gozreh as the go to God of Gender Identity (or Lack Thereof). Why not explore these ideas with other deities? Maybe people don't think about it until they look at the nature/description of the god in detail and have that "aha" moment. That was my inspiration really. Looked and the god of Sandpoint and thought that this would be an opportunity to take this a chance take a further look into this social issue. I can see where it would come off as cliche, but that was not my motivation when it came to me.

** spoiler omitted **...

The GM already specified no Aasimar, as they won't work with a particular plot point in the storyline.

Well, that's embarrasing. Thank you for telling me. -.-'

Anyways, better post something actually related to the recruitment before I completely derail the thread.

Fluff in brief:
Thorn grew up on the streets of Magnimar. He joined a gang at a very early age, and worked for his food by stealing, scouting, and acting as lookout. The ringleader took most of what the gang made, and Thorn and the rest of the gang was always on the brink of starvation. They were his family though, and gave him his name - 'Rat'. He was caught with the hands in the pocket of a passing cleric, who seemed very interested at the leaf-shaped birthmark on the back of his right hand. He was packed off to the temple in Sandpoint, initially scared that he was going to be punished for his crimes.

At Sandpoint, he eventually fel in. He skipped a good bit of the lessons on religion and what he derogatively reffered to as 'the book stuff', but spend plenty of time nurturing his connection to the plants around him.

He's suspicious of people in general and has a particularly ungenerous view of merchants, bankers, and people who own stuff and make money by trade in general - experience tells him that they're greedy and uncaring.

This, in turn, fuels a casual disregard for the right to possess stuff. He won't steal from people who seem poor or who he respects, but he'll absolutely snatch stuff he wants from people he passes.

Yeah I saw that. Missed it when a lot of that was copied and pasted, and at the end I mentioned he'd work as a human.

I was rushing to get that out during mg lunch break. I'll fix that snafoo.

Thanks Cart

I'm putting together a Half-Orc paladin of Sarenrae (Divine defender, sacred shield, warrior of the Holy light). Having trouble deciding between the Healing Domain and the Light Domain for the boon.

Playing with the idea that while she is a Paladin of Sarenrae, she is a chosen of Shelyn or Abadar and raking the Protection domain.

I'm also debating swapping out the sacred shield archetype for the redeemer archetype.

I would like to apply with Xarmas Misinirith. She's a druid, and so you'd think she was chosen by Erastil or Gozreh, but I actually like the idea of her being a Chosen of Abadar. The dynamic of the God of Civilization and her being a druid would add a ton of fun roleplaying dynamic. He chose her to help protect civilization from the upcoming threat, but wanted someone who would be comfortable on the road. I will be working on her today; she'll be done soon.

In-character:

Pehmah stared from her vantage-point on the roof at the trader across the courtyard for several minutes, watching his every move. There was something off about the way he spoke to the customers, and his movements were jerky. She had suspected for a few days that a trader must be selling cheap, mislabeled herbs to the unsuspecting townspeople, ever since she sat down with Father Brandt for a cup of chamomile tea and tasted a hint of poisonous holly. She had promptly told him to dispose of the tainted tea, and asked him where it had come from... apparently one of the younger clergy had gotten it for him as a meager gift, to celebrate his name-day. The young man had been sent on an errand to Magnimar, and so was not available for questioning.
Pehmah watched for a few moments longer, then slid down the opposite side of the roof, somersaulting to the ground with ease. Acrobatics: 1d20 + 7 ⇒ (15) + 7 = 22
She pulled the hood of her dark green robe up over her hair, to hide her gender... she found that merchants from larger cities could be more easily intimidated when the gender of their questioner was unknown. Her features could easily be mistaken for those of a man if her long hair was hidden, a gift of the dual-natured god/goddess which she served. Disguise: 1d20 + 2 ⇒ (19) + 2 = 21
As she approached the dealer, she steeled herself to be ready to incapacitate him if necessary. A good herbalist could heal many ailments, but a false one could ruin lives, and the people of Sandpoint were a gullible lot... they could be sold anything by someone with the right gift for words.
"Hello, hello!" the merchant said as she approached. "Would you like to try some cream for your calloused hands, my good man? It is made from the finest fruits and nuts in the area. Excellent for farmers, fishers, shoemakers, or anyone! Only five silver for a tub!"
"No," Pehmah said, "thank you, but I am interested in your tea. I've heard you are well-known for it."
"Oh yes, by all means, feel free to taste some! I guarantee you've never had tea like this before!"
Pehmah opened a canister of tea and held it up to her nose... Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (9) + 9 = 18 and immediately recognized the smell of Pesh, a drug which is not found in the area, but she had sampled once from a drug merchant passing through the area.
She placed that canister back down and sniffed another. Survival: 1d20 + 9 ⇒ (17) + 9 = 26 This time, she smelled the distinct odor of at least three drugs: pesh, flayleaf, and shiver. She had seen and smelled enough. She pulled back her hood, revealing her face and the birthmark on her left clavicle, a leaf with a drop of water dripping from it, as clear as if it had been inked on her by the finest tattoo artist.
"You will cease selling your wares immediately and come with me. Your wares will be confiscated by the town guard, and you will be tried in our courts for selling drug-laced teas to the townspeople... I assume in the hopes of getting them addicted and then selling the real drugs to them at inflated rates."
As she said this to the man, she stepped forward, putting her leg behind his, then grabbing his shoulder and using her own weight and his as well to pull him over her leg to the ground. Trip: 1d20 + 4 ⇒ (6) + 4 = 10. Though her technique was not as clean as she would have liked, the man fell, sputtering some garbage about having been sold these teas by a wholesaler in Katapesh. "No matter where you got these drug-laced teas, you've been selling them, and given your state as an addict yourself, I know very well that you could identify them as well as I. You are under arrest."
The marchant feebly tried to swing a fist at her [dice=unarmed]1d20+1], but Pehma easily dodged his shaky swing. She tied him up, calling for the guards to come take the man away, as well as his tainted wares.
To the other shoppers in the market, Pehmah announced "This man has been tainting his herbs and tea with drugs in the hopes of addicting you. If any of you have bought herbs or tea from this man, please come to the temple, where the clergy of Gozreh will replace it with untainted product at 1/10th the normal cost. That is all."
Once the ill-fated merchant was taken into custody, Pehmah took a few minutes to search his wares thoroughly. Most of the herbs and teas were just as she expected... tainted with all manner of highly-addictive substances. But she did find one small box which held an unaltered, beautiful find... a full pound of the finest Khelish tobacco she had ever seen. Given his criminal nature, I see no need to return this to him... she thought, as she pocketed the tobacco. This, I will reserve for special occasions indeed.

Marked off 2gp for the cost of the tobacco, which is 4x the normal cost of "standard" tobacco.

@GreenTea- please look at the list of gods again... neither Pharasma nor Gorum are on it...

@DL- I'd really prefer that the god you worship/serve is the same one that chose you (that kind of goes with what I said up thread about the stronger your connection to your god the better...

@Pehmah- if you see this in time, please put that last post in a spoiler (just to keep the thread easy for others to look through). Thanks.

Quick question. How much starting GP? Did I just miss that?

Well, now I feel a fool. I could've sworn I had seen them. I apologize for wasting your time. It looks like fun, otherwise, but I'll withdraw. Very sorry again. (Could've sworn I saw st least one of them. Stupid lunch rush...)

You should consider the Urban Druid archetype for this character concept. :)

Could I make a human treesinger druid? I envision him as having his connection to Gozreh take the form of an instinctual deep connection to plantlife.

If you don't like bending the rules around racial archetypes, that's fine as well.

Yeah, I wasn't sure it would fly, and I had already chosen against it, preferring the other options. Still not sure about the choice between Light and Healing. Basically it's a choice between playing up all the light based themes of the Holy light archetype, or the protective aspects and the usefulness of the healing domain. It's a tough choice.

@Xarmas- you did miss it, yes... That's ok though. Everyone starts with average wealth by class.

@GreenTea- there's a long time left in recruitment... Feel free to wander back if you think of something for one of the 6 gods of the Sandpoint cathedral (Abadar, Desna, Erastil, Gozreh, Sarenrae, or Shelyn).

@Tony- your background might be a little over the top... You can leave it as is and see if it fits well enough with enough other players to work, or you could tone it down a little to be more on par with what others have submitted so far (maybe a vision instead of being physically taken to the outer planes, maybe a celestial white stag instead of the herald of Erastil?)

@12.5%- if you took the racial heritage [elf] feat there would be no rule bending at all... Is there a reason you don't want to do that?

Excellent, thanks GM.

Cartmanbeck, I was thinking that same thing, actually! Good on you. I might, but with her being Wild Shape-focused, I may not. Time will tell.

TBH, aside from Sarenrae, those are my least favorite, and if I did Sarenrae, it would be from the "kill 'em all hard" Qadiran heresy sect. Given the theme, that doesn't seem popular. If it would be, let me know...I have a dawnflower dervish bard into shadowdancer concept I've wanted to try, someone who skirts the edges...can't have shadow without light, kind of thing. Neutral leaning towards good, but way too willing to let ends justify means.

nate lange wrote:

There's no reason he couldn't have an elf somewhere in his ancestry, I'm just not that well versed in pathfinder's nooks and cannies, to be honest - I didn't know it existed. Also, I envisioned him as a human, but having to have elven ancestry isn't a deal-breaker in any way. I'll think on it; thank you for pointing that option out!

Thanks! I would much rather be told the problems straight up so they can be fixed then sit there doing nothing to make a better character.

There are truths whispered upon the wind, though most would not dare to listen.

I (Something Wicked) now submit:

Roakkad Shrikkir-tsha, Scion of Gozreh
Shoanti Wizard (Spirit Whisperer)

A refugee hailing from the Shriikirri-Quah of Northern Varisia, Roakkad's fate led him to the impossible city of Kaer Maga where he trained with the druidic cults therein. Now, a dying augur's portent has ushered him to the provincial village of Sandpoint for purposes unknown.

Roakkad is a dual-natured being, torn between his ancient Shoanti heritage and the inevitability of imperial conquest, existing somewhere between a true Shoanti, a refugee, and a modern citizen of Kaer Maga. Even his magic, acquired through many years of arcane study, is haunted by the spirit of his mother, his father, his brothers and sisters, and even Galjit, the troll oracle. How can he let them go? He prays to Gozreh, still, for the power to forget. But always, the wind blows, carrying whispers from the Wind and the Waves, that the past is inevitable, while the future is ever-changing.

Zesdead's Character - Still a 'Work in Progress'. Shoanti Pyrokineticist originally of the Sklar-Quah (the Sun Clan) but somewhere along the line orphaned and ended up at Sandpoint Cathedral beneath the tutelage of a Sarenrite... Much to write - but, before I go crazy, I'm going to take my time reading up on Sarenrae and the Shoanti (Inner Sea Races / Gods)...

Bah... just realized I messed up a dice roll in my in-character message above. Here it is: unarmed: 1d20 + 1 ⇒ (12) + 1 = 13

Background:

Background
Abandoned at birth into the slums of Riddleport, Karina's childhood was rough and unpleasant. Scrabbling for scraps in the alleys and rubbish heaps of the city. At the age of five, she was caught trying to pick the pocket of some passersby. Thankfully the guardsman who caught her was a religious man and noticed the birthmark on her arm. It was the spitting image of Sarenrae's holy symbol, the angelic ankh. He sent her to train at Windsong Abbey. After a two years there, her teachers felt that her training might be better served at the Sandpoint temple.

In Sandpoint she studied religion until the late unpleasantness and the burning of the old temple. For the last five years her studies have been shadowed by her work rebuilding the cathedral with the others.

So many orphans...

@Matrim- you're supposed to have been at the Sandpoint Cathedral for at least 6 months, and to have received some training there. If you really want to play up the 'prodigal son' trope maybe an alternative to consider could be having grown up at the church instead of an orphanage and then left to do your own thing; it could have been a dream about Father Tobyn that drove you back?

Funny you say that, I was just finishing my backstory, and has written how Xarmas had a lovely childhood, and still has both her parents alive and well.

Pathfinder Lost Omens, Rulebook Subscriber

Yeah, still working on my character's backstory and character sheet, but both his parents are alive (if elderly) as well. I'm having him come to Sandpoint 4 years before the main story starts (so 1 year after the fire). Just need to get a clear picture of why he goes there specifically. He's from Korvosa if you've got any suggestions.

I was originally going for how he did break into a church and have a cleric cast illusion spells on him. Then put him to sleep before moving him back to his place.

Oho, the irony. Thorn's family is probably dead.

Fluff Incoming:
Or maybe he was stolen from them when he was too young to remember - that's what he used to dream up for himself. One day, they'd come back and take him away, they'd go live in a house with a fireplace, and he'd never be hungry again. But yeah, probably dead.

Still, he kind of thinks he's found a new family at the cathedral. He's not about to admit that while they're listening, though. He does have an image to maintain, after all.

Orphans are a much-needed metaphor for the psychological isol--Oh hell, it's just an easy hook.

I suppose I could rewrite my story so that the "spirits" that are whispering to me are my dead pet cats, Theadora and Puffwinks ;).

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

@Henshin- everyone's reason for being in Sandpoint is supposed to be that they were brought there (or chose to travel there) because of their birthmarks, so that they could receive the training and guidance they needed. If you're from Korvosa you'll just need some reason why you weren't taken to a temple of Abadar there (maybe someone had heard about other marked children/people in Sandpoint)

OK, so what are the primary aspects of these gods? Which ones are the least picked by applicants?

So far it looks like we've got the following characters/ideas:

Milton McMurray - Arcanist (White Mage) of Sarenrae
Talene Minly - Cleric (Ecclesitheurge) of Desna
Ceridwyn Reese - Paladin of Shelyn
Tony Sinclair - Inquisitor of Erastil
Matrim Shadows - Rogue (Knife Master) of Desna
Pehmah Yonten - Monk (Flowing, Iron Mountain) of Gozreh
Xarmas Misinirith - Druid (Urban Druid?) of Abadar
Thorn 'Rat' - Druid of Gozreh
Roakkad Shrikkir-tsha - Wizard (Spirit Whisperer) of Gozreh
Kaelaah - Pyrokineticist of Sarenrae
Karina of the Flame - Paladin (many archetypes?) of Sarenrae
Salomae Amsel - Slayer (Deliverer) of Erastil

Sal is my character, though I've only got her crunch done and not the fluff or the RP post yet.

I think Henshin is working on a Fighter of Abadar and a friend of mine was thinking of submitting a Wizard of Abadar also.

Oddly enough, looks like there's only one Shelynite so far which surprises me a bit. Of course there are few people who have dotted for interest and have yet to post a character or idea, so that could change :)

I'm working on a character for Desna. I know she's getting a lot of love, but the giant space butterfly is near to my heart.

Silver Crusade

Do you allow sub-domain selection for the gods favoured domains?

So, does that make me a shoo-in? :D

I kid. I kid!

I still need to redo her background. I haven't because I've been busy with work. First security updates yesterday then crappy internet and server migrations today.

RPG Superstar 2012 Top 32

No worries- there's still plenty of time in recruitment.

For anyone who's not familiar with the gods, please use the Archives of Nethys and/or one of the pathfinder wikis to learn a little bit about each of the six.

@Lady Ladille- thank you for getting the list going!

@Tharasiph- sub domains are fine as long as you choose one that's normally available from your god.

Question about my story, so besides the parts we have already spoken about. What about his way of getting to sandpoint, is it alright that it wasn't his parents that brought him there?

Silver Crusade

Hmm my idea is an Oread Druid Saurian Shaman of Gozreh with an Allosaur or maybe Deinonychus companion emphasizing Gozrehs dominion of all nature not just wind and waves.

Okay aside from the RP sample (which I will likely also add as a spoiler on her profile page), everything else for Sal here should be ready to go including background and basic personality. Let me know if there are any questions or if there's anything I've left out :)

*edit* Since the idea is that we've all lived here in Sandpoint for at least 6 months or longer, I took the liberty of looking up a little about some of the town residents to help for a couple of minor background details; hope that's acceptable.

GM ONLY:

Nate, I've got a question for you. Is it okay if we have our backgrounds tie into NPCs that would have grown up at the same time as our characters? For Ceridwyn, she'd be going up with Ameiko and Nualia, I think. If not, that's fine.

Also, I was planning on building Ceridwyn to switch from glaive to halberd at need. I would love to be purely a glaive master, but I've tried that before and it didn't work out so well when my character couldn't hit the opponents next to her.

Still working on it. I may have to get the crunch done first.

The Nethys Archives tell me mechanical info, but not really more than that. I never got that any of the gods woukd fit any kind of split duality or anything, yet some of the prior posters knew that.

Of course maybe there is a different area of the site I don't know about. The other site I found didn't help either, just the same mechanics info. I'm not worried about domain or anything yet, first I need something narrative to tie my concept to before developing it further, some of the story behind who these gods are and their personality, but all I can find is mechanics.

@TAS - Here you go. The relevant deities are Abadar, Desna, Erastil, Gozreh, Sarenrae, and Shelyn. Hope that helps!

Another character for your consideration; please see his profile for a full background. How shall we submit our sample post?

* - Unchained Monk of the Four Winds. This is a community-created archetype for the Unchained monk; in it, the Level 12 ki power is lost, as is the capacity for acquiring Abundant Step. Similarly, Stunning Fist can only be acquired via standard Feat, and access to both Timeless Body and Perfect Self are lost. If this is acceptable, I will continue as such; if it is not, I will probably go with a straight Unchained monk.

This character sheet is built with Hero Lab. Once I figure out how to add in spellcasting and the subdomain, I will do so; if not, well, I can just tack it on here. ;) Ularik would most likely be a channel for the Redemption subdomain.

Background:

Unlike most of those around him, Ularik is old. Though he appears a misshapen, ashen-skinned human of perhaps twenty-six or thirty, he is fully eighty-eight years of age, and has been in Sandpoint for almost its entire history. Showing up as a youth of fifty, his misshapenness would have gotten him run right back out of the four-year-old town, had a mischance not stripped him of his shirt as he attempted to flee. Across the entirety of his back, now in full view of the pursuing villagers, was the gold-and-brown angelic ankh of Sarenrae - and the ridged scars that betrayed the innumerable efforts of his original kindred to rid him of the mark. The lashes have only emphasized and brightened the mark that Sarenrae in her wisdom had placed upon the tiefling.

It is perhaps because of her compassion and hope for redemption that Ularik survived long enough to escape the village of his birth, for despite the inhuman child's parentage, he has always had a stubborn, almost insane, streak of self-willfullness. It is not entirely a matter of self-determination; the idea that all should be destroyed, so foul deeds may be committed without care has never sat well upon Ularik's mind. Beaten for giving voice to such thoughts, lashed in attempts to flay away the mark of the goddess, Ularik left as soon as he could figure out how. His oversized arms and shoulders (he can walk on all fours, and typically finds it more comfortable to do so) and ashen skin has always been enough for others to drive him away, and though this has given him an appreciation for the boons of civilization, it has also given him a driving desire to see that people judge others not on their appearances, but on their deeds.

In Sandpoint, given a chance, the youth put his capabilities to use for the advantage of his uncertain hosts. Even young, his strength and reach and willingness to climb to unsafe locations made him a boon to builders, and in doing so he has made of himself a local oddity instead of a local pariah. When the cathedral began to be constructed, Ularik was there, helping out - not as anything like a skilled craftsman, but as a laborer, ready and willing to assist in its building. Though he smiles rarely (for he is aware of the fright his ragged teeth can make), and though his grip is implacable should it close upon a thief or bully, to the young and the infirm he is kind and gentle.

Ularik's nights, however, are anything but kind and gentle.

Throughout his nights, his inhuman parentage (of qlippothic madness) whispers and murmurs in his dreams, enticing, tormenting, lashing and goading. Would that he could have nightmares of simple wolves chasing him; his wolves' mouths have five jaws and a thousand teeth, and unhinge to their shoulderblades. Would that he had a nightmare of a house on fire; his fire washes his feet with acid and entangles his limbs, raking his guts with claws of ice as he hangs bound to a tree of bones. He rarely gets a good night's sleep, each one acknowledged quietly and ferverently as a grace of Sarenrae.

It is because of this constant push to commit acts of chaos and evil that Ularik has devoted himself to the exact opposite; he lives his life by a code, and for the good of others. Had he been less misshapen, he might have been a good candidate for paladinhood, but though he acknowledges that his patroness is the source of much of his survival, he has a very strong sense of personal responsibility and determinism that will not allow him to give that much of his will over to the goddess.

The Final Setting-Up:

"Did you finish with the bunting?"

"Yes, Sister Sara," he responded for what felt like the twenty-third time, but which was probably only the second or third. Though the small howling part of him wanted to reach down and give the woman a hard smash across the skull for her repetitiveness, the rest of him knew that she was only fretting, and that she only wanted everything to be right for tomorrow. Even now, Ularik was perched precariously on a wall, leaning well out with one hand keeping him in place while the other held the welcome banner stretched across the tightly in place while Davyd stood on a ladder and with his smaller, more nimble fingers tied the strings in place.

Finishing up, Davyd gave him a quick smile, and climbed back down the ladder; Ularik, in turn, pulled himself back upright, then swung himself down from the top of the wall, to face Miss Sara while Davyd escaped. "The bunting is done, ma'am," he reminded her with a calm he strove to feel. "The church has been swept and dusted, the silver polished, but it's on the list to be done again in the morning. The windows have been washed of sawdust, the bell is mounted and secure, and you have the list of people arriving. Last I remember, everyone but two of your visitors have arrived at their lodgings. Did you want me to go check on them?"

"Will you?" The sixty-something-year-old Sister Sara may have been a demanding taskmistress, but she only wanted everything to be right so that everyone could have a good time. 'A stitch in time will save nine' could have been her personal philosophy, but for all her strictness she was the gentlest healer Ularik had ever seen - or been subjected to, and her hand was most often the one that brought him out of the worst of his nighttime terrors. As a young woman, she had been the first to touch him, and the one who had draped her cloak across his back to hide the sight of the scars of thousands of lashes across the years. It might have been a stretch to say that Ularik would do anything for her ... but it wouldn't be much of a stretch.

"Right away, Sister. Save a plate for me?" More than almost any other element of civilization, Ularik appreciated a hot meal, a fact well-known to the sister.

Sara laughed, for perhaps the first time in that day of triple-checking. "Have I ever not? Go on, you know where to find me."

"Yes, ma'am." The overlong-armed hunchback tugged his forelock, absentmindedly scooped the carry-strap for the massive nine-ring broadsword to pull it over his head, and started lumbering through town.

**VERY IMPORTANT**
I'm sorry, there's something I took for granted that I really should have included in the initial post: please download the free players guide and read through it.

@Tony- it doesn't have to have been your parents, as long as you ended up there for training and/or guidance, at least 6 months ago.

@Salomae- please try to avoid any spoilers but that is absolutely ok. The longer you've been at the Cathedral the more important it will be for you to have connections with a few of those people (and even more so if you're originally from Sandpoint).

@Adam- see my answer to Salomae. Regarding combat style- you can approach it that way if you want but there are simpler and easier solutions (IMO): just picking up a spiked gauntlet, for example, would allow you to attack adjacent enemies and you wouldn't have to worry about dropping your weapon and picking it back up (or spending move actions drawing things).

@AlicornSage- what Salomae said. On the Archive, sometimes it's not obvious which things are links... On the chart of gods you can click the god's name for more information; on a god's individual page, right above the "Details" header, there's a link to their wiki page where there's a bunch more fluff.

@Teobold- you can put it in a spoiler in your profile.

Is complete sanity a requirement for the characters?

I was considering an Illusionist who is "marching to the beat of a different drummer", so to say.
A disciple of Desna that can't quite keep Dream and Reality apart, and by magic, interweaves them.
(this slight madness would also be the reason she was taken to the temple as a teenager by her parents, and has remained in the care of it ever since)

But if that concept is a no-go, I'd like to know before writing up a background, gameplay post and crunch...

@mordred- I'm open to the idea... The AP will quickly have her leaving the Cathedral, so she needs to be sane enough that the priest will be comfortable with that. Also, a character like that will work better in some parties than others, so it is a little bit riskier of an application, but if you've got a solid feel for her personality and everything go for it.
