Traps!

Pathfinder First Edition General Discussion

I've always wanted to roll a ranger with a high craft trap skill. By RAW there seem to be a ton of options. Poison tipped weapons traps, etc. etc. I also realize there's a bit of paperwork involved, which is why I've never seen them in action. Are traps effective? Does anyone have experience with them? Are they a waste of time?

The DC's are not that high unless they are magical, and the since in most games you are visiting the bad guys, and they are not visiting you they most likely won't be set off.

I would not bother with them.

Have you checked out the Trapper Ranger archetype in ultimate magic? You give up spells for being able to make various Extraordinary/Supernatural traps on the fly. My wife's got a character that's heading that way, it should be interesting once she gets her traps.

anyone else?

I enjoy creating traps, but yeah, the mechanical ones usually have fairly low DCs. Against my higher level PC players, I tend to create magical traps more often.

These days, however, my love for haunts are greater than traps, and I have a ball creating haunts - which are a lot like magical traps.

I fondly recall my groinal scythe trap which came after the black lotus darts.

Pc falls apart, rest of party backs out of the treasure room.
