Witcher III - as a module?

Anyone playing Witcher III? I have really enjoyed it so far, about 4 to 6 hours in. I also impulse purchased the hardback walkthrough book with the bestiary, maps and characters.

Has anyone used a video game walkthrough as a tool for a campaign? There is so much information in there I was thinking if my guys had not played Witcher 3, I could run them through a PF adventure using all the material in the book.

I would have be flexible depending on the choices the players made. But my guys don't necessarily need to have infinite choices when they are playing.

I may try it .... what do you guys think?

Cool idea, I know my brother is loving the witcher however, probably not the correct forum for this discussion.

Advice or Homebrew might be more fitting, either way I'll flag it for a move. I'd like to hear about it if you do decide to run it.

That makes me wonder, what kind of class would Witcher be? I guess hybrid of alchemist and inquisitor.

Modules based on movies and games have been done and so there is precedence for this. Somewhere in my closet I have an AD&D module based upon the 1981 book The Keep (as well as the movie of the same name). Yes, it does have a giant evil space vampire in it (as far as I can recall anyway). I think it might even have Nazis in it.

While this of course would never be PFS kosher, a Witcher based story might make fun stuff for a home game.

Silver Crusade

It's certainly doable, and The Witcher seems pretty suitable for use as a Pathfinder homebrew setting. I've run a homebrew set in the Magic multiverse, focusing on Ravnica, it was pretty fun.

But yeah, this is in the wrong forum, flagging for a move.

So what goes in general discussion?

Well, you're in the Pathfinder Society General Discussion - which is the Organized play campaign. The general Pathfinder board can be found here, this may also fit there, but I have a feeling it would get sent to homebrew. General discussion tends to be on paizo based content and guides to using said content (in my experience).

This is the General Discussion for Pathfinder Society Organized Play.

What is Pathfinder Society Organized Play?

Well, I'm glad you asked!

Pathfinder Society Organized Play wrote:

Pathfinder Society Organized Play is a worldwide fantasy roleplaying campaign that puts YOU in the role of an agent of the Pathfinder Society, a legendary league of explorers, archaeologists, and adventurers dedicated to discovering and chronicling the greatest mysteries and wonders of an ancient world beset by magic and evil.

The campaign’s home base is sprawling Absalom, the so-called City at the Center of the World, that stands astride the great Inner Sea on the mountain-capped Isle of Kortos. A Pathfinder’s adventures explore the dark alleys and political intrigue of Absalom between far-flung travels to the most interesting and exotic locales in the world of the Pathfinder Roleplaying Game.

In Pathfinder Society Organized Play, you play a member of the Pathfinder Society, seeking fortune and glory all over the face of Golarion. At the same time, your character works for one of the competing factions, all with their own motivations and secret agendas.

Play is organized into Seasons, throughout which the actions and achievements of you and your fellow Pathfinders create an ongoing storyline. Each season consists of at least 28 Pathfinder Society scenarios (short, 4-hour adventures) set in a variety of exotic locations across Golarion.

I'd build him as a Slayer, with brief dips into Alchemist & Magus depending on whether or not you want a build that expands his alchemy or magic capabilities.

In any case, you're trying to capture the spirit, not a true translation. Magic works differently (as is always the case with Pathfinder) but I think Magus doesn't compromise as much on his combat ability. If not Magus, probably Wizard, but only a level or two (burning hands, shield, charm person are the closest matches to the signs I can think of and they're all 1st level spells).

Inquisitor doesn't really fit unless you're fine re-flavoring everything with a divine-slant. Slayer seems perfect for Geralt - typically lighter-armored, some wilderness skill but not full-blown ranger, two-handed ranger combat style, studied target representing the tactical side of things, poison use for blade oils, using feint to set up sneak-attack damage, etc.

I'd also represent a Witcher's mutant heightened senses as getting an ability score bump. For example, if the standard PC gets a 15-point build, Witcher's get a 20-point build. Although, you might be able to use the Race Builder rules to come up with a "mutated human" variant. Hmm, that might be the better route...

For the Witcher in my mind he's a Mutagenic Mauler Fighter with an unreleased VMC or archetype for Kineticist to get the signs. From what I've played it could definitely be made into a module. If you followed the books it could even be made into an AP.

Ah, with Witcher 3 live it might be time to undust my Witcher-as-alchemy-using-ranger-archetype.

Alchemist and inquisitor lack the high BAB progression that would represent witchers' intense combat training.

Sovereign Court

Alchemist basically, and just use the new discovery Spell Knowledge from Cohorts/companions etc...where you can grab any sorcerer or wizard spell, at lower levels and make them extracts. This should cover some spells and abilities that Geralt gets.

I'd probably make it a Slayer Archetype with a bardic Knowledge equivalent that only works for IDing monsters, craft (Alchemy) as a class skill, Alchemist style Bombs, and Signs as minor supernatural abilities which can be used basically at will (possibly in place of an iterative attack) but only 1/round or so.

Here's the Witcher Race I built for fun last week:

Medium Size
Humanoid
Count as Human
Speed 30
Languages as per Human
Str,Dex,Con +2
Cha-2
Low-Light Vision
Immunity to Disease
+8 vs Poison & Drugs
1 Skill Rank/Lvl

I'd say spell-less ranger with some alchemist levels for mutagen.

there's also this thread.

It requires class levels to pick up your racial features, and they've been listed as class features instead

Why would you do this?

What if I want to play someone like Ciri, who has witcher training but not the mutations (perhaps someone who had to leave beforehand, or perhaps someone who somehow determined in advance that he is not one of the 3 in 10 that could survive the mutations)? What about someone with the mutations, but not all of the training?

I'm very much not a fan of that writeup.
