reskinning a dhampir

how much grief should I expect if I fluff my dhampir race boon as a botched fake death that resulted in vampirism? I've found some players in PFS to be overly rules-lawyery.

I have a nice backstory going, and it just seems funny that the character tried to escape an abusive cult by faking her death, only to do *too* good a job and found herself partially undead as a result.

I've seen another dhampir character that was constantly searching for a "cure" for his state, and it seemed to work for that player. he was played more as a vampire-bit-me type than a dracula-is-my-daddy type.

I know dhampirs are supposed to be bastard offspring of vampires and humans, but this just seems funnier somehow. but is it in violation of the rules? perhaps she always had some latent dhampiric heritage, and the fake death brought those traits out in her?

It seems more backstory than fluffing a boon (this is without actually looking at my Blood of Night Player Companion). with that being said, here is what the FAQ for PFS states on reskinning:

Can I re-skin or re-flavor an animal companion or item?

You may choose a specific type of animal companion from any of the base forms listed on pages 53–54 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook or a legal Additional Resource but may not use stats for one base form with the flavor of another type of animal. Thus, a small cat could be a cheetah or leopard, as suggested, as well as a lynx, bobcat, puma, or other similar animal; it could not, however, be "re-skinned" to be a giant hairless swamp rat or a differently-statted wolf. If a GM feels that a re-skinning is inappropriate or could have mechanical implications in the specific adventure being played, he may require that the creature simply be considered its generic base form for the duration of the adventure. A player may not re-skin items to be something for which there are no specific rules, and any item a character uses for which there are no stats is considered an improvised weapon (see page 144 of the Pathfinder RPG Core Rulebook).

Based on your description, you do not gain a mechanical benefit from the backstory. I don't really see how you could be breaking the rules by using your particular backstory.

awesome. I want to make a Razmiri apostate. I have a dhampir boon. it just makes sense to put the two together, have the character fake her own death to escape the cult and end up partially undead.

her name, of course, will be Miss Cavige.
