The rewards aren't adding up in this scenarion like they usually do. For instance: low tier gives 1097 gp in area A2, 866 gp in area A3 and 175 gp in area A6 for a total of 2138 gp. The chronicle sheet gives 4461 gp total for low tier.

The only other places PCs are likely to gain treasure are areas A9 and A11, but neither of these lists a reward (other than the possibility of getting magic items from A9 - the value of which is far more than the missing 2323 gp).

Is this extra loot just a given or should it exist somewhere in the scenario and have to be earned?

After reviewing the scenario, the amounts are gold reductions if the party fails to complete the required objectives for the particular areas and not gold rewards. Hope that clears things up.

But usually the individual gold reductions add up to the total amount given on the chronicle sheet - essentially the reduction is the amount rewarded for that area. Otherwise, a party could just go drinking at the tavern and get over 2000 gp for this scenario.

I think that it's possible 1500 of it is represented in the platinum, but I don't know where else it may be coming from.

Any non-perihshable bought with the platinum is to be returned to The Way of the Kirin at the end of the scenario. That said, it would make sense that any unspent platinum would also be returned. The platinum is not a reward.

They had it on hand anyway, I see no reason that it couldn't be prepared as a reward. And as I said, I don't see much else that could be in that space. I'm not saying that scenario says that, I'm saying that could be accounted for as a piece of the reward. Or perhaps after you secure the tower they extract a piece of the treasures for you.

Ah, could it be a divided up sum of the magic items you find in the treasure room?
