How does Two-Weapon fighting work?

Rules Questions

I have played several melee, range and caster classes but no one in our group has ever used Two-Weapon Fighting.

How does it work?
I'm planning on being a fighter (Two Weapon Warrior archetype) Lvl 8

if I want to use two weapons is it always a full round action? Do I get additional attacks as my BAB increases with Improved and Greater Two-Weapon Fighting feats?

So far I have

Exotic Weapon Proficiency Katana (keen critical baby)

Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Double Slice, Two-Weapon Defense, Dodge, Mobility and Combat Reflexes (4 AoOs a round).

I want to play non-stop aggression but as stated above, I don't know how the attacks work

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Seems like you have it right.

You can fight with a weapon wielded in each of your hands. You can make one extra attack each round with the secondary weapon.

Prerequisite: Dex 15.
Benefit: Your penalties on attack rolls for fighting with two weapons are reduced. The penalty for your primary hand lessens by 2 and the one for your off hand lessens by 6. See Two-Weapon Fighting in Combat.
Normal: If you wield a second weapon in your off hand, you can get one extra attack per round with that weapon. When fighting in this way you suffer a –6 penalty with your regular attack or attacks with your primary hand and a –10 penalty to the attack with your off hand. If your off-hand weapon is light, the penalties are reduced by 2 each. An unarmed strike is always considered light.

If you wield a second weapon in your off hand, you can get one extra attack per round with that weapon. You suffer a –6 penalty with your regular attack or attacks with your primary hand and a –10 penalty to the attack with your off hand when you fight this way. You can reduce these penalties in two ways. First, if your off-hand weapon is light, the penalties are reduced by 2 each. An unarmed strike is always considered light. Second, the Two-Weapon Fighting feat lessens the primary hand penalty by 2, and the off-hand penalty by 6.

Table: Two-weapon Fighting Penalties summarizes the interaction of all these factors.

Double Weapons: You can use a double weapon to make an extra attack with the off-hand end of the weapon as if you were fighting with two weapons. The penalties apply as if the off-hand end of the weapon was a light weapon.

Thrown Weapons: The same rules apply when you throw a weapon from each hand. Treat a dart or shuriken as a light weapon when used in this manner, and treat a bolas, javelin, net, or sling as a one-handed weapon.

Table: Two-Weapon Fighting Penalties
Circumstances Primary Hand Off Hand
Normal penalties –6 –10
Off-hand weapon is light –4 –8
Two-Weapon Fighting feat –4 –4
Off-hand is light and TWF feat –2 –2

If you get more than one attack per round because your base attack bonus is high enough (see Base Attack Bonus in Classes), because you fight with two weapons or a double weapon, or for some special reason, you must use a full-round action to get your additional attacks. You do not need to specify the targets of your attacks ahead of time. You can see how the earlier attacks turn out before assigning the later ones.

You are skilled at fighting with two weapons.

Prerequisites: Dex 17, Two-Weapon Fighting, base attack bonus +6.
Benefit: In addition to the standard single extra attack you get with an off-hand weapon, you get a second attack with it, albeit at a –5 penalty.
Normal: Without this feat, you can only get a single extra attack with an off-hand weapon.

Doublestrike (Ex): At 9th level, a two-weapon warrior may, as a standard action, make one attack with both his primary and secondary weapons. The penalties for attacking with two weapons apply normally. This ability replaces weapon training 2.

Let's see.

Level 8 Two-Weapon Warrior archetype Fighter

Two-Weapon Fighting, Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, Double Slice, Two-Weapon Defense, Dodge, Mobility and Combat Reflexes (4 AoOs a round).

Your BAB is +8, so your standard single attack roll with one katana wielded in one hand (but not making a full attack) would be D20+8 (8 is your BAB) + attack roll modifier (hereafter referred to as MOD) and damage would be D8+damage roll modifier (hereafter referred to as DAM).

When making a full attack with one katana (but not using two weapons) you get two attacks. The first attack will be D20+8+MOD, then a secondary attack at D20+3+MOD. Both attacks would deal D8+DAM damage.

Now, let's apply Two-weapon fighting (TWF) and Improved Two-Weapon fighting (ITWF). When making a single attack (not making a full attack) you still only get one attack, so your to hit would be D20+8+MOD.

When making a full attack however, things start to change. You gain a -4 penalty when using Two-Weapon Fighting with two katanas. This could be reduced to -2 if one or both weapons wielded are light. You also gain a +1 bonus on attack and damage rolls when making full attacks with two weapons from Twinned Blades - this should be added in the MOD and DAM modifiers when making full attacks with both katanas. Additionally you gain one additional attack because of TWF, and one additional attack at a -5 penalty because of ITWF. Because you have Double Slice, you do not deal half ability score damage on your off-hand attacks so your damage will be the same on all attack rolls.

Therefore your full attack while using TWF and ITWF would be

D20+8+MOD-4
D20+8+MOD-4
D20+3+MOD-4
D20+3+MOD-4

And your damage would be D8+DAM.
