Roll 20 - Looking for a dm & 2-3 players - Monday or Tuesday nights - kingmaker, way of the wicked, or a home brew.

It's similar to the skinwalker Blood of the Moon supplement Pathfinder put out. They just add in DR and take away some of the shifter parts so you have specific foci based on the background of what werecreature race you are. You can take feats that can grant you the other powers of a lycanthrope, or traits for that matter via the skinwalker book. The skinwalkers also cover the range of existing lycanthropes from sharks to wolves, while Blood of the Moon just covers feline, ursine and lupine.

This one I think is what you are looking for. http://paizo.com/products/btpy96v9?Bite-Me-Playing-Lycanthropes

Let me take a look and I will get back with you.

When are we looking to start? This tuesday? Next?

I am assuming next Tuesday, since we just voted this week to play Way of the Wicked. We still need to know what characters everyone wishes to make. Of course, you don't have to worry about equipment at all, since you start out under sentence of death via burning at the stake, decapitation via ax, or death by sentence of life at hard labor in the salt mines. Once people have an idea of what they want to play, then I can post the crime trait lists you can take to represent your crime
. You get this trait for free as well as 2 extra skill points a level in Way of the Wicked.

@Grand Inquistor Vixen
I took a look at Bite Me! Lycanthropes and they balance the natural lycanthrope pretty well. You get a +2 to two physical stats, a -2 to one mental stat, based on which base animal you choose.

Your beast form stats equal the starting stats from a druid's animal companion, - the fact you don't get any of the level boosts other then when the animal companion would become larger. (like a bear does at 4th level, with +4 to Str, +_2 to Con, -2 to dex, and becomes medium size). You get DR2/silver in beast form only every two levels, with DR 10/silver at 9th. Your ability scores in beast form use your own or the ones from the animal companion table, whichever are higher. You can remain in beast form for a number of hours equal to your con + character level, and can use that time in 1 hour increments. In order to take a hybrid form, you have to take a feat, and you don't gain DR in that form.

You pick a humanoid race to base your physical appearance on, but you don't gain any of the abilities of it. You also gain animal empathy (+4 to Diplomacy checks to modify the behavior of an animal), +2 to Survival, +2 to Perception, and low light vision. However, you take an additional 1d6 points of damage from any silver base attacks and it ignores your DR. Plus you have a -2 to saves vs wolvesbane, and a -1 to save vs spells that use wolvesbane as an additional spell component. In order to inflict lycanthropy on others, you would have to take another feat.

All in all, it's balanced. You could also become an afflicted lycanthrope around 10th level, the same time that you can become vampires in Way of the Wicked, but then you lose a lot of control over the character when the full moon appears and you go full rage monster. Something tells me the other PCs are going to see you as a chaotic impediment to their plans, or as a weapon to be unleashed when need be. My preference would be for you to play as a natural lycanthrope, leaving the afflicted template alone so your abilities are a strength, not an unreliable curse that renders you unplayable at times.

So what are people thinking of playing? Your alignment has to be lawful evil, neutral evil, lawful neutral, or neutral. Lawful evil is the preferred alignment, but isn't mandatory. I know Will was looking at a tannim dragon paragon, which is fine. The alignment requirement narrows down the focus of what you can play. Lawful evil anti-paladins are fine, and you can have cohorts of any evil alignment. Obviously no paladins, but any other race and class are fine. If you play a cleric, you must either worship one of the Nine Rulers of hell (aka archdevils), an infernal duke, a malebranche, a whore queen, or a divine being of Hell that has domains listed (at present, there is only one, Erecura, the wife of Dispater, ruler of the 2nd plane of Hell, Dis.) A list of these deities can be found here. http://pathfinderwiki.com/wiki/Portal:Religion Cleric of Asmodeus are highly recommended. As for oracles, you should pick mysteries that fit with the dominion of Hell, like fire, occult, etc. The same goes for witch patrons. Should you need rules references, send a request my way and I can look them up for you. Thanks.

Right now i'm looking at wizard, scarred Witch doctor, Gravewalker witch.

Honestly, how gimped would necromancy be in this campaign? raising the undead?

In my (limited) experience, not gimped at all. By the end of Chapter 1 a dedicated necromancer can easily have an undead army.

Anyway, I'm floating a few concepts, but wanted to see what everyone else was playing. Some work well with other concepts, others need a bit of breathing room in their nitch.

Current front runners though are...

-A psychic and former goodly being that went insane when he witnessed the depravity of man. Came to believe that mankind was unworthy, and that it needed to be shown a true dark age so that it would embrace eventual paradise. Likely a mix of martial and blasting built out of wilder.

-A dark voodoo focused character, heavy on the necromancy and juju. Bitter, cynical, and likely of a savage race (scarred witch doctor maybe?). Heavy on debuffs, fear effects, and so forth. Very charismatic.

I am thinking Cleric Undead Lord or Anti Paladin. I would be interested in the path of the Vampire with either.

oh man, a Party full of Necromancers.

Dread necromancer from 3.5 is also available. It's in Liber Mortis but everything else stays the same other then converting Hide to Stealth, decipher script to Linguistics, lose Concentration, and you gain Channel Negative Energy at 1st level plus the Command Undead feat. Also you are healed by negative energy damage and damaged by positive energy.

OK, so I'm probably going juju oracle then probably agent of the grave so when I hit 10 I can work on litchdom.

Hoping I might be able to reflavor the juju fluff to make it either shadow plane themed or infernal themed. The latter being similar to a soul merchant. The juju zombie would instead have it's soul removed while still alive thus becoming "undead?".

I'll be picking a themed race that matches the flavor that you allow.

@meeko Either works. If you wanted to go shadow plane themed, you could be a tiefling with the kyton spawn racial heritage (since the kytons left Hell and went to the Shadow Plane), or fetchling (which are the shadow plane touched outsiders). For infernal, a devil spawn tiefling would be a natural fit for a soul removed. The soul is trapped in hell until the juju zombie is destroyed.

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-fetchling

Fetchlings get 5 cold and 5 electrical resistance and 20% miss chance in dim light, plus planeshift and shadow walk at higher levels. They also make natural oracles, with +2 Dex and Cha and a -2 to Wisdom

http://www.d20pfsrd.com/races/other-races/featured-races/arg-tiefling

Kyton spawn have the normal cold, fire and electrical resistance 5, plus a +2 to Cha, +2 to Con and a -2 to Wisdom. They have web once per day rather than darkness. Also a good choice for oracles.

Devil spawn get a +2 to Wisdom and a +2 to Con, but a -2 to Charisma. Not as good of a choice for oracles, but they also get pyrotechnics 1PD, which is great if your enemy has a lantern lighting the way and you put it out in a burst of fireworks.

You would need to take Fiendish Heritage as a feat in order to get either kyton or devil spawn. It has to be taken at 1st level.

Sweet. Ill look into them.

What knowledge check would it be to know about the soul-trade and its inner workings? Planes?

Knowledge Planes. Knowledge Religion is useful as well.

Wait, all my past games never required that feat because the aasimar doesn't require it do do the exact same thing... Does taking the feat also allow me to roll or pick from the variant tiefling abilities? As much as I love fluff I won't willingly Wingclip myself for it. Especially with stats like mine.

What about changelings? Aren't hags famous for bartering in souls?

Fiendish heritage for all purposes no longer exist as a feet. They did this when they came out with the I think blood of angels book that has the Aasimar heritages in them. WHen this came out they stated for PFS and what not the Fiendish Heritage has no purpose or effect and is no longer a feat and Tieflings just like Aasimars can select the alternate heritages. Just an FYI still your call but if you keep it as a tax then its better to just play Aasimar.

I think they did a bad job with the blood of fiends, Mechanically.

For instance:
Devil-Spawn - Stalwart and conniving, diabolical tieflings know the discipline and might of Hell's legions.

They get +2 Con, +2 Wis, –2 Cha. WHAT!? how is a -2 to Cha "Stalwart and conniving"

Demon-Spawn - Savage and monstrous, the terrifying spawn of demons know the chaotic fury of their Abyssal ancestors.

they get +2 Str, +2 Cha, –2 Int I guess they forgot to add charming alongside "Savage and monstrous, the terrifying..."

AHA! The tielfing abilities were never updated to not requiring the heritage feat when the advanced races guide came out. So scratch requiring the feat. You can roll or pick from the tieling abilities table, but that will replace the spell like ability you get from being a tiefling, whether it is the standard default darkness ability or the other one from choosing a specific fiendish heritage. That follows the example of the aasimar to the T. Changelings are also possible, but hags don't really barter in souls. They barter in other things like voices (Ursula from the Little Mermaid for fish legs for example), magic beans, that sort of thing.

I'm still poking around with what I want. It's just a matter of solidifying what race to play. So many options!

@meeko I think the demon-spawn get a bonus to Charisma due to force of personality, not necessarily from charm. I don't see why you couldn't move the bonus to wisdom on the devil spawn to Charisma and take a penalty to wisdom if you were spawned from a line of contract devils, for example, meeko. That way you are from a background of silver tongued devils and what not. A good character background provides an easy way around mechanics, especially with something as simple as an ability bonus.

@Grand Moff Vixen You know you want to be a kobold ranger!

How goes character choices for the rest of the group?

I was waiting a bit for everyone else. It seems with we are good on casters, So I'm thinking of doing the Anti-Paladin. How would you feel about a house rule to use the corruptive touch as a swift action when used on myself just like a paladin. I have seen others do this. It won't matter until I'm undead or if I play a Dhampir. Thanks.

That would be fine, Ashe. It's the same ability as the paladin, and its a choice between adding your channel to an attack via Channel Smite or healing yourself via negative energy. You could always take the Tomb Tainted Soul feat from Heroes of Horror or Libris Mortis to get healed by negative energy if you don't want to be a dhampir.

Yeah its nice but seems a bit of a waste once I become undead through the path of the vampire. Will we be using retraining or downtime rules, if so then maybe. Thanks.

Retraining and downtime are available without issue.

Cool will probably throw build together tomorrow and post on here.

So how goes the quest for the perfect evil PC? Any solid ideas down?

I was still sort of waiting to see what got fleshed out by others. I've seen talk of anti-paladins and a couple necromancers, but didn't we have like 6?

At this point we do. I think people are still trying to figure out what they are going to play based on other people's characters, but only Ashe has posted his main idea so far. Will stated he wanted to be a dragon, but nothing solid. Does everyone still want to play? I would like to get characters before this Tuesday, if we still want to play, or we will have to move it to next Tuesday.

Well, screw it. In that case I'll just put something together and worry about everyone else later. Google Docs ok for a character sheet at this point?

I am going to play a Human wizard focused on necromancy. A debuff and battlefield control caster. I will have decent knowloges and social skillz.

I'll be posting my back story later tonight.

Born to a family of lawyers and sorcerers, Vladimir lived a very boring life. He spent most of his time reading books from his grandfathers extensive library and helping with the family practice by taking care of secretarial duties. As Vlad reached the age of 20 he began to notice that his little brother Olef was aging at a unnaturally slow pace in comparison to himself .

Confronting his father about his younger brothers problem, Vlad is informed that he is a human offspring born into a family of damphirs. He will age to an old man long before his little brother is able to take a wife.

Feeling alienated by his family Vlad sets out on an exploration of study into possible magic that would extend his life span to that of his kin. Again he finds himself at the mercy of his grandfathers library. Vlad studies many things including religion, the planes of existence, and Arcana.

One day while Vlad was totally consumed by his research in on the lower Plains, he is visited by imp named Jarvis. After introducing himself as the familiar of Vlad's grandfather, Dimitri, Jarvis inquires about Vlad's intentions. After some discussion Jarvis informs Vlad of a way that he may bargain for immortality. The imp teaches Vlad about the soul trade of the lower planes and convinces him that multiple sacrifices in Asmodeus's name might gain him enough favor with the god to barter for immortality.

After a long planning period Vlad chooses his first victim, the dumb and pompous son of a minor Lord that had bullied him in primary school. His sacrifice was wildly successful, Vlad then gains the confidence to begin systematically sacrificing all of the people he deems unworthy of living. Cheats, crooks, corrupted officials, and the spoiled Gentry that grant "power". His murders were be coming folk lore. The common man loved him.

Eventually, Vlad gets aims to high. He is caught in the middle of creating one of his finest works of art, the outskirts of town in a small shack he had constructed for "research purposes".

Vlad is brought to trial, and while he's on the stand waiting to be cross examined, a familiar scent wafts across the air. A cologne that smells overly familiar. The prosecutor is asking him a very personal question. "Do you know how embarrassed your family is to have created such a monster? You could have ruined the entire Putin practice. Now where where you on the nigh..." Vlad zones out, trying furiously to remember that stench. 'Grandfather?' Could it be the infamous sent of his grandfather's magical truth telling cologne!?!?' Knowing far to well the effects of the magical aroma (and that his fate is already sealed in death) Vlad responds with one of his favorite excerpts from The Asmodean Disciplines. As gasps and chatter fill the room a wry gin crawls across Vlad's face.

Nice background Meeko. They are going to burn you at the stake for sure.

Google Docs works fine for a character sheet. Or you can PM me with it as you see fit.

Wife had plans for this weekend so didn't get time to post, but yeah I'm still in for sure and will have a guy made up after I sleep :)

Can i make a public sheet on mythweavers and just give you the link Stormcrow27?

That's fine Meeko. People can also send me PMs with word or RTF or PDF docs as well. We just need the characters done so we have a list of what people are gping to play and then we can start. If we don't get them all by Tuesday then we can start next Tuesday.

Lord Cedric

Ready to go. If you have the roll20 page up you can send it out so we can get macros made.

Use this as Token Please

Thanks.

So is everyone still in? We are at 6 players at present.

Aero Gracchus
Ashe
Peter Stewart
Will Pratt
Grand Inquisitor Vixen
Meeko

I have Ashe's character sheet, and meeko's background and character choice. I am pinging interest so if everyone gets their character done by today I can create the roll20 page and get that setup, we can play today. But if not, then our next game will be the 27th around 6:30 pm EST based on the last series of PMs I had.

Sorry I haven't been able to post I work all of my 40+ hours in 3~ days so Friday through Sunday are difficult for me and yesterday my girlfriend dragged me to Disney. I'll have my PC and back story up in a couple of hours

No worries, Will. I just wanted to make sure how many players we had. I've worked that kind of shift several times and finding time for your loved ones and your own amusement gets hard.

Sheet

Are we down for tonight, or would it be better to push back into next week since it seems like we've got a bunch of people still scrambling to get stuff together?

I am still in. I haven't come up with a story yet, though if it came down to it I can get a working one up to get going with. That is if this is ok with everyone else. If not we can wait till next week.

It would be best to have it next Tuesday, since not everyone has their character done. I don't want to force anyone to make a choice they later regret and thenjoy have to pay for the cost of retraining. And it does work better to forge the bonds of an evil organization at the start, since escaping Brandescar is the main glue that holds the group together. Of course, they can't brand someone with fire resistance, so instead they use a sharp knife to permanently scar the forsaken brand onto your arm, and then cool it down with dye so it stands out. Usually white or gokd dye, if you want to know.

Sigh. Gold.

https://docs.google.com/document/d/1NrRbf3HkSCbrXjpr5H8jud4LxXLgYQD0uz9OEvA rvEg/pub

This is my PC I'm still working on my fluff. I decided to go with a Bloodrager instead of a Dragon.

So we have an anti-paladin,a necromancer, a shaman, and a bloodrager so far. This should be interesting.

Heh Will, could you repost your sheet link? It keeps referring the thread or a link that doesn't exist. Thanks.
